Community Partnerships

The COVID-19 pandemic has put on hold many key moments in the fundraising calendar. Boys’ Town is pleased to receive another heartening year of support from our donors and supporters. Despite the pandemic, we are grateful for the strong response to the various fundraising initiatives. We express our deepest gratitude and appreciation for your care for the community.

Boys’ Town Flag Day

Boys’ Town Flag Day is a vital well-loved fundraising event before the pandemic, where our youths and staff participated in the street collections to seek donations from the public. This year, we conducted a virtual Flag Day via Giving.sg.

Meal for a Cause

As part of our continuous effort to connect with our donors and supporters, Boys’ Town hosted a charity dinner, Meal for a Cause, on 8 July 2022. This long-awaited dinner, hosted by our Board Members took place at The Assumption Restaurant for Training. The guests were treated to a sumptuous spread cooked by the chefs from Conrad Centennial Singapore. This was followed by a short tour of our facilities that aimed to educate and inspire the guests on our different services. Our successful event would not have been possible without the guidance, time and effort from our dedicated Board Members and staff.

Events (Corporate Services)

Staff Engagement

With the easing of the safe management measures, the HR team has brought the activities back to face-to-face and hybrid mode. To strengthen better work culture, programmes consisting of health screening, physical activities, ergonomics, mental well-being and nutrition are executed for the staff.

Corporate Services Luncheon

Corporate Services (CS) started the quarterly CS Luncheon since 2021 and the goal is to bond together and share information across the various Corporate Services. During the May 2022 luncheon, the team had a painting session. It was a therapeutic session for the team to destress and paint their hearts out. We have chosen the elephants as they are well-known for having strong family bonds, and they never leave their family behind, which coincides with our Organisational Value Proposition (OVP).

Boys’ Town Staff Video

In January 2022, the Human Resource (HR) team launched the “A Day of a Youth Worker” video. It is a collaboration with ITE College Central, School of Design and Media. The video showcases the role of a Youth Worker in a Residential Services setting.

HR Clinics

HR Clinics were launched in April 2022 to guide our new Managers, Leads and Senior staff in enhancing their people management skills. Topics of this management series training comprise of:

• Recruitment and Selection

• People Management

• Performance Management

• Conflict Management

The clinics were conducted by our managers who had graduated with the Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) Professional Diploma in Leadership and Management.

Boys’ Town Adventure Centre

Introduction to Snorkeling and Skin-diving

With COVID-19 transitioning to endemic and restrictions relaxing, much to the delight of both our clients and staff, Boys’ Town Adventure Centre (BTAC) activities are slowly returning outdoors too. This denotes activities like snorkeling could return with the Introduction to snorkeling and skin-diving session we had with Northlight School.

Climbing Activities

Climbing activities and nature-based programmes have resurfaced too. BTAC saw our first mentor-mentee climbing programme with Lakeside Family Service Centre at our adventure tower after a two-year hiatus of group climbing programmes. In the encouragement of Environmental Stewardship, BTAC brought clients from Boys’ Town Sanctuary Care’s Outreach Activity Respite Services (OARS) programme out on adventures with nature.

Little Hearts, Big Hearts

In conjunction with the Festival of Children, BTAC soft-launched the ‘Little Hearts, Big Hearts’ project that is funded by The Majurity Trust’s Musim Mas Bluestar Fund – a fund that aims to seed new ideas and approaches that include preventive mental health intervention, research and public education initiatives reaching out to youths, their parents and peers.

Under Boys’ Town’s Our Milieu Project, ‘Little Hearts, Big Hearts’ is a 3-phase (Outreach, MicroProgrammes, Targeted Intervention) programme that works with both children and their caregivers to destigmatize and promote help-seeking behaviour for mental health issues and depression. Following the soft launch, BTAC will look forward to a roadshow and series of parenting talks in the later part of quarter three of 2022 and quarter one of 2023.

With the re-opening of larger-scale events, BTAC tried our hands-on cohort programmes for the first time since it started. It was a breath of fresh air for the staff as the team took on a different challenge in running programmes at a much larger scale with the mainstream students. This experience created opportunities for BTAC and widened our coverage for programmes shortly.
