Training and Consultation

CIC provides training and consultation for parents, schools, students, volunteers, peer supporters and other professionals so that we can integrate accessible and effective support that fosters healing and recovery. Our topics from the training workshop include Managing Acting-Out Behaviour and our Safe Supportive Series on trauma-informed care.

Counselling and Therapy

CIC provides therapeutic support and intervention to improve our clients’ psychological, social or emotional well-being. This comes in the form of counselling and therapy, behavioural intervention and parenting work. We provide a safe space for our clients to work through their issues in a trauma-informed environment, and we work closely with parents, schools, and other professionals to coordinate their care.

Participation in Practice Research

CIC is currently engaged in practice research to explore the readiness of direct service staff in Residential Services, as well as Fostering Services towards embracing a trauma-informed approach in their work with vulnerable children and young people.

Boys’ Town Fostering Services

Boys’ Town Fostering Services (BTFS) was appointed by the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) in February 2015 and started operations in November 2015. We support children in out-of-home care to achieve their potential through a stable and safe family environment, either through foster or kinship care. These children are all referred by Child Protective Services aged from newborns to 18 years old.

Lifestory

BTFS started its signature programme called Lifestory. Lifestory works for 10 foster children aged 9 to 12 years old. The programme consisted of a groupwork session that looked into safety, resilience, and emotional literacy. It was followed by individual follow-ups from Social Workers to help foster children get a coherent sense of their past. Foster children have a higher likelihood of having defragmented memories of their past, which would affect their self-esteem.

Roadshow at City Square Mall

BTFS had its first physical roadshow from 17 to 23 June 2022 at City Square Mall. A colouring contest was organized for children aged 4 to 9 years old to promote the roadshow. The colouring contest artwork was designed with the quote “Love Finds a Way”. This theme was inspired by our foster families’ love for their foster children as they help the vulnerable foster child overcome their many life challenges. During this one week roadshow, we reached out to over 1,500 people and received 34 interest slips from the public who were keen to find out more about fostering and how they can support children and youth-in-need.

Roadshow at Yusof Ishak Mosque

BTFS conducted a roadshow at Yusof Ishak Mosque on 24 June 2022 during Friday Prayers, with 1000 attendees. This roadshow aims to reach out to the Malay community and raise awareness about fostering.

Sanctuary Care

Community Outreach: Festival of Children

As an initiative for the year 2022, Sanctuary Care (SC) launched its first Festival of Children Programme (FOC) to serve low-income families. This was a welcome change from our Milk and Diaper run that was conducted in the previous years. The jumble sale-themed event successfully served a total number of 64 participants. The movement consisted of many beneficial components such as activities for children, a mental health talk and a bazaar that included both new and preloved items. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our kind donors for their generous donations and for making this programme fruitful.

Respite Services: ARC & OARS Programmes

Sanctuary Care’s respite services consist of both the Acute Respite Care (ARC) and Outreach Activity Respite Services (OARS) programmes. We are pleased to share that the ARC programme has served 9 infants and toddlers for the first half of 2022. The demographics of our clients include individuals who struggle with teenage pregnancies, domestic violence, or facing issues with employment and accommodation. Their children are placed under the care of our reliable respite carers while the parents overcome their challenges.

Residential Services

Character Development Camp

The camp was conducted over a period of 4 sessions due to the zone implementations. This platform allowed the boys to embark on a journey of self-discovery and better understand themselves and others. Through various activities, the boys honed their communication and leadership skills which are essential to their daily activities. The camp sought to foster a spirit of camaraderie and friendship among the boys.

Project Riley

In collaboration with Boys’ Town Adventure Centre, Project Riley is an adventure-based therapeutic programme to equip the boys with healthy coping strategies for regulating anger using freediving. It is designed to develop participants’ self-awareness in recognizing signs and symptoms of distress and apply strategies used in stress management and emotional regulation. The boys learnt to better understand their emotions and manage them over a total of 8 sessions.
