The
Hand of Hands A pre-thesis project exploring the imagery, form, texture and function of the hand in creative and cognitive thinking
In this project I worked with concept of ‘thinking hands’ and ‘thinking with hands’. The objective was to help bridge the gap between traditional craftsman and their consumers. I wanted to focus on the stories that emerge from the working space of a craftsperson and intersect them with the various dimensions of sense that the human hand interacts with. Through this connection, I hoped to influence and inform my audience’s awareness on traditional Indian crafts. My final product was an interactive children’s book that takes the reader through the various processes involved in traditional Indian crafts. In the book, each craft technique employed in the book is part of completeing a series of quests to escape a parallel dimension called the “digital realm”.

Centrist is an interactive graphic novel I created for my Thesis project about political strategy. The story takes place in the fictional world “Compassia” where the main character, Charlie, is a shapeshifter who navigates through a series of grassroots decisions that ultimately lead to major political events. On his journey he meets several characters who influence his path through their personalities, inferences and cultures.
Fig. 1: Kiboland
Compassia is divided into four main countries namely Kiboland, Cazako, Mannada and Ekai. Compassia itself is characterised by the political compass which is a two dimensional chart used that consists of a Social axis and an economical axis. It is used by netizens to plot generalized and uncomplicated political ideologies.
The countries of Compassia are divided by these axes and their political landscape is determined by the quadrant of the chart they physically occupy. For example, the state of Kiboland (fig.1) is an Authoritaive Capitalist country. It is either ruled by dictators or Monarchs. On the other hand the country of Mannada (fig.2) is anarchist, with no set ruler. Therefore, each country takes on the literal ideology of their position on the political compass.

character des The foundation of the environment and character design was laid in iconography. After an extensive study on symbols and how they affect the way we percieve or social life, I decided to base my characters around political symbols, both past and present. For instance, “The Great Eagle Kibo” (pictured) is the unianimous god worshipped by the citizens of Kiboland. The eagle is known to be an age old symbol of Authoritarianism.
