Welcome According to the European Biomass Association AEBIOM, global pellet production rose to a total of 24.5 million metric tons in 2013, a figure 14 times higher than the levels recorded in 2000. The main sales region for pellets is and remains the EU, which accounts for around 80% of the market, followed by North America with a share of 12%. The development of growth in both the main sales areas and interesting upcoming markets acts as a key focus of the 14th Pellets Industry Forum. At the conference, experts will report on the latest market developments in Germany, Italy, France, United Kingdom, Greece, and the USA. The status quo of political and energy industry frameworks and their impact on the German and European boiler and stove markets will be examined in further presentations, as will developments in the European fuel market. Political frameworks, rising energy costs, and growing competition will also enliven discussions on energy efficiency measures in pellets production. This topic is therefore also gaining its own dedicated session within the conference. As pellet quality is vital to the development of the heating market, this year's Pellets Industry Forum will be supplemented by two events on ENplus certification. The German Wood Fuel and Pellet Association is organizing an ENplus-Conference to present the certificate's development, implementation and marketing in German-speaking regions. In parallel, the European Pellet Council is holding its 3rd International ENplus Auditors' Workshop in Munich. In addition to providing expert knowledge in presentations, the two conference days also contain plenty of scope for talks, discussions, and networking. I look forward to welcoming you to this international pellets industry meeting in Munich.

3rd International ENplus Auditors‘ Workshop The ENplus certification program guarantees the quality of wood pellets along the whole supply chain, from the pellet production plant to the end customer gate. Today, around 200 producers and 300 traders located in 31 countries are ENplus certified. By the end of 2014, around 6.5 million tons of the pellets produced worldwide were ENplus certified, which represents around 60 % of the EU pellet consumption used for domestic heating. The ENplus certification is managed by the European Pellet Council (EPC, www.pelletcouncil.eu), an umbrella organisation made up of national pellet associations. The ENplus certification process is handled independently by certification, inspection and testing bodies. In order to carry out the ENplus audits, the inspection bodies have to get their auditors properly trained and informed. For this purpose, EPC is organising every year an ENplus auditor’s workshop in order to inform the auditors on the ENplus requirements and to share experience.

This workshop concerns only the ENplus auditors and will be organised this year in addition to the 14th Industry Pellet Forum on June 12, 2015 in Munich.
