Cancer Research

Inna Vernov, NY - Passover 2023

Cancer impacted my and my husband family a few times. We have lost my (Inna) grandmother and my husband (Henry Igor) mom to pancreatic cancer. As a family we did a lot of walks and always tried to be involved as much as we can by donating to cancer organizations and research Naturally the girls have picked up on that and the last 3 summers they would sell homemade lemonade (Henry Igor) made and Brownies (Inna) made They donated each dollar to different cancer organizations

November 2022 Sarina received a gift for her 9th birthday on clay beads. They started to make the bracelets, they made a lot and said to us, Mom Dad can we donate these to sick kids battling cancer? That's how we stared with Bracelets. January 2023 the kids put together their mission statement, logo, photographed bracelets and launched the website.

I think the most important aspect of their mission is that they want to evolve and include other kids To teach that there are others who are very sick in the hospital, and we are here to really help by brightening their day one bracelet at a time Girls were able to do quite a few bracelets events and they teach the kids that what we are doing is a big deal, its a big Mitzvah and it will make a little boy or a girl so happy. They tell the kids that these kids are different they might have lost their hair, and we need to support them and not make fun. As a parent to us, to know that kids want to help others and educate at the same time is the biggest achievement.

They also ask kids to be their ambassadors. Someone who can draw a picture which their include on a post card with every bracelet delivery.

The girls were able to donate to hospitals in US and 2 Hospitals in Israel. They are also involved with a lot of care package organizations that put together gift to pediatric cancer children all over US.

Bracelet purchase can be done on the website, with each bracelet sold, they will make 3 more bracelets for children battling cancer

Donations are always welcome

We are non a non-profit yet as it requires a large financial commitment, but the girls are working and putting money aside to achieve the goal and become a non-profit!

Rare Marc Chagall Painting of His Father, Recently Restituted to the Descendants of

Its Original Owner, on View at the Jewish Museum

Marc Chagall’s painting Le Père (1911), which was recently restituted to the descendants of its original owner, is now on view at the Jewish Museum through January 1, 2024

Completed in 1911, during a transformative period in the artist’s career, Le Père was among 15 works of art that the French Government restituted in April of 2022, part of an ongoing effort to return works in its museums that were stolen by the Nazis during World War II. The painting was restituted to the descendants of David Cender, the original owner, and sold at auction by Phillips in November 2022. Following the sale, Phillips’ team in New York worked with the buyer of the artwork and facilitated the loan to the Museum.

Claudia Gould, Helen Goldsmith Menschel Director, said, “The Jewish Museum is honored to show Chagall’s rare portrait of his father. The vast and systemic pillaging of artworks during World War II, and the eventual rescue and return of many, is one of the most dramatic stories of twentieth-century art, and one that continues to have repercussions today It is imperative that the Jewish Museum tells these stories, most recently doing so with our exhibition Afterlives: Recovering the Lost Stories of Looted Art (2021) We are grateful to Phillips for facilitating this loan ”

Part of the collection of David Cender, a musical instrument-maker from Łódź, Poland, the work was stolen from him in 1940 before he was sent to Auschwitz with his family While Cender survived, his wife, daughter, and other relatives were killed at Auschwitz By the early 1950s, the painting had been reacquired by Chagall himself, who held a particular affinity for it The artist was likely unaware of the history of the painting’s ownership In 1988, the Musée national d’art moderne, Centre national d’art et de culture Georges-Pompidou in Paris received the painting by donation from Chagall’s estate Ten years later, the work was deposited into the Musée d'art et d'histoire du Judaïsme in Paris, where it was on view for 24 years before research showed that the work should be and was restituted to Cender’s heirs.

Le Père is a dynamic portrait that signifies Chagall’s pivotal transition from art student in Saint Petersburg to one of the defining figures of European Modernism. During the winter of 1911-1912, Chagall moved into La Ruche, an artists’ commune on the outskirts of Montparnasse, France. The works he created over the next three years are among the most highly regarded of his career, with his portraits bearing particular significance. Israeli Culinary Institute Announces Opening Date

The Galilee Culinary Institute by JNF (GCI by JNF) will officially open its doors on May 7, 2024. Located in the Greater Kiryat Shmona Region - Israel's northernmost point -- the first-of-its-kind institution will enable a new generation of students to experience the region's rich melting pot of culinary traditions while providing a syllabus that sets it apart from other schools.

"Israel's Galilee region is home to over 80 unique cultures," explained Jewish National Fund-USA World Chairman's Council Ambassador, Steve Rosenfield. "Where else in the world can you learn about Ethiopian and Druze food in the morning, Lebanese cooking in the afternoon, and Jewish Sephardic cuisines from North Africa in the evening? GCI by JNF will mark a new era in culinary education, yet it will also bring transformational economic development to Israel's north thanks to the jobs and tourism it will attract "

Further emphasizing the Institute's positive economic impact, Rosenfield added: "The upper eastern Galilee has been out of the spotlight for too long because of the complicated economic and security situation Through Jewish National Fund-USA's philanthropic investments in the region, we are adding new housing sites, a new medical center, a food technology center, and a food incubator in addition to GCI by JNF "

GCI by JNF CEO, Nathan Hoffman, echoed Rosenfield's excitement "The opening of the school means everything to me," he said "I've been waiting for this day since I started in May 2019 To me, this solidifies everything and provides a timeline for executing our strategic plan "

Housed within GCI by JNF, the Rosenfield School of Culinary Arts will welcome students from around the world with plans underway to also offer shorter culinary programs for tourists and locals

"It's always incredible to see a vision evolve into reality," said GCI by JNF Chief Culinary Officer and Co-founder, Lior Lev Sercarz. "The opening of our institution will be a watershed moment for Israel's north, yet it will also mark a new chapter in how our industry approaches culinary education as our impact is felt around the globe."

"I am so proud to see our game-changing initiative come to fruition," added GCI by JNF Chair and Co-chair of the Go North East Task Force, Sheryl Buchholtz. "In everything we do at Jewish National Fund-USA, we always ask, 'what's the Return on Investment (ROI) for the people of Israel?' Projects like GCI by JNF help change the narrative in previously underserved places like Kiryat Shmona We are bringing jobs and tourism to the region, yet most importantly, we are creating hope and a reason for the next generation to stay and develop their communities "

Regarding the Institute's target demographic, Hoffman explained: "We are looking to attract the next generation of culinary leaders Many places accept anyone who can pay However, we will focus on engaging students with the most passion, promise, and potential "

GCI by JNF will differentiate itself from other institutions by focusing on transforming culinary education While most institutes strictly focus on the kitchen, with students usually learning about their workstations and how to use the different kitchen supplies on 'day one,' GCI's students will first start on the farm They will see where food comes from with the Institute's experiential approach to learning "You learn about wine from the vineyard, bread from the wheatfields, and fruit from the orchards, not from a book or video," explained Hoffman

DOMINICAN AND ISRAELI TEAMS PUT ON BASEBALL CLINIC WITH A MESSAGE OF HOPE, FRIENDSHIP,

AND PEACE

At World Baseball Classic, Philos Project Brings Teams Together Against Antisemitism

Hours before Israel and the Dominican Republic squared off during the World Baseball Classic, players and coaches participated in an event for local student athletes from the Jewish and Hispanic communities The joint effort between the Philos Project and the Israel Association of Baseball (IAB) was designed to inspire young players, to discuss ways to combat antisemitism, and to promote friendship and hope through sports.

According to Jesse Rojo, Director of Philos Latino, "It was truly inspiring to see professional athletes go beyond their professional obligations to personally connect with the next generation and champion a message that solidifies the strong, historic friendship between Jews and Latinos "

Tuesday's "Esperanza Series" event builds on a Philos-led trip to the Holy Land in November 2022, when MLB players Jeimer Candelario, César Hernández and Nelson Cruz held a baseball clinic for over 200 Israeli children and met with Dominican and Israeli leaders in support of strong bilateral relations.

"We're extremely proud of the friendships we've developed with Philos Latino and the Dominican Republic," said Jordy Alter, President of the IAB. "This is an incredible opportunity for kids to experience how sports like baseball unite people from all countries and all backgrounds.

The event at José Martí Park in Miami featured a question-and-answer session and an exchange of flags between countries. It also included a ceremony featuring white roses, a symbol adopted from a Nazi resistance movement in the 1940's and used today by the Philos Action League to show solidarity and friendship to victims of antisemitism, a gesture the group has repeated more than 150 times since May 2021

MLB great Nelson Cruz, who serves as GM of the Dominican team, headlined the clinic and expressed hope "for this initiative to continue to grow and that we may be able to bring more players to motivate the children and that this may become a tradition for many years to come "

IRONMAN Israel Middle East Championship 2023 Opens for Registration

Following the success of last year's competition, the Ironman – Israel Middle East Championship triathlon competition will be held for the second year running in Israel, on 3 November 2023. The event will take place in the northern city of Tiberias, along the shores of the Sea of Galilee. Registration is now open.

Ironman – Israel Middle East Championship is a regional competition that took place in Israel last year for the first of time, and is one of five IRONMAN championship events held around the world. Competitors from the UAE, Bahrain, Jordan and other neighboring countries are once again expected to take part in the competition.

A record number of professional participants are expected, all of whom are aiming to break Patrick Lange's record of 7:40:00 on this super-fast IRONMAN course.

The Ironman contest is seen as the most prestigious triathlon competition in the world. It includes three sections: swimming, cycling, and running. There are no breaks, and the participants have a time limit to finish each section of the competition, making it both a highly physical and mental challenge.

As part of the Ironman in Tiberias there will be two races:

Full Ironman including 3.8 kilometers of swimming in the Kinneret, 180 kilometers of cycling and 42.2 kilometers of running.

Ironman 70.3 race including 1.8 kilometers of swimming in the Kinneret, 90 kilometers of cycling, and 21.1 kilometers of running.

The competition is organized by the Comtec Group and the Sylvan Adams Foundation, in partnership with the Ministry of Culture and Sport, the Ministry of Tourism, the World Triathlon and the Tiberias Municipality.

While the atrocities in Ukraine continue and Passover, a holiday dedicated to remembering an Exodus from Pain & Slavery is observed this week, I congratulate one of my personal Heroes, the Incredible Ben Ferencz, who was recently recognized for his Lifelong Dedication of Promoting Law, Not War, by receiving the Congressional Gold Medal - our Nation's highest expression of appreciation.

As a Jewish Israeli and American Lawyer, I am in complete awe of this man.

The fact that he lost his beloved wife to Alzheimer’s, a disease that I dedicate so many volunteer hours towards building greater awareness, makes me feel my connection to him even stronger

At 103 years young (!!!), Ben remains a true Testament of how an Attorney can make a HUGE Impact on our lives

Thanks to Ben and the 1945 Nuremberg investigations, sufficient evidence and documentation proved Nazi crimes against members of Hitler's inner circle, war criminals who included Hermann Göring, Rudolf Hess, Baldur von Schirach and others

Those men were Einsatzgruppen commanders who were responsible for killing more than a million people across Eastern Europe

If it were not for Ben, they would have never been brought to Justice!

The son of poor Jewish parents from a small town in Romania, Ben moved to the U.S. when he was a baby.

He earned his law degree from Harvard before enlisting as a private in the Army during World War II.

He was just 27 years old when he presented his case at Nuremberg!!!

Ben has since spent the rest of his life trying to deter the types of war crimes he prosecuted

In an interview with Lesley Stahl, Ben said that he was still in there fighting "And you know what keeps me going? I know I'm Right!!"

What a Wonderful Attorney, Inspiration and Example for all of us, to Never Give Up, Never Give Up, Never Give Up!!!

Much Gratitude Always to this Amazing Person, a living reminder of why we always need to Strive to Do Better!

As We Begin this Season of Hope and Renewal, Celebrating the Passover and Easter Holidays, Happy Wishes to our Clients, Friends & Colleagues.

Chag Pesach Sameach v'Kasher & Shabbat Shalom.

My Law Firm and I are so Grateful to YOU !

May you find Time to appreciate the Miracles of Life each day, Blessings of Good Health, along with the Love and Respect of others, Today and Always.

South Florida Entrepreneur Launches Good Jewish News Magazine

Publication Aims to Increase Optimism in and Around Jewish Culture

Businessman and Philanthropist Jay Shapiro launched Good Jewish News out of the desire to bring more optimism to the Jewish community and put smiles on people’s faces in a modern era where news tends to focus on negative, divisive and shocking content. The first issue of GJN (good Jewish news) was published on Rosh Chodesh Adar 5783 and featured renowned Israeli artist Yaacov Heller and Ironman Israel on the front cover. The publisher is nonreligious yet felt that publishing the monthly magazine and release it each month in accordance with the Hebrew calendar would set it apart from other publications which may or may not focus on positive wholesome content!

Good Jewish News is: Pro-Israel, Pro-Peace, Pro-Uplifting Stories, Pro-Motivation and AntiNothing yet acknowledges the need for the more shocking and negative news! Its just not in the wheelhouse of Good Jewish News to publish such said negative content! There are over one million publications sharing negative content about the Jewish community and GJN will be the exception to the pessimistic rule which states that bad news spreads 10 times faster than good news. The publisher is hell-bent on disproving that quote and restoring some light, levity and humor to a world divided

About the publication

Mission Statement:

To Publish Positive and Optimistic News in and Around the Jewish Community!!! We do this by publishing Good Jewish News magazine with a focus on good news, success stories and uplifting content!
