DominiqueItaliano"theartist"

From Denver and now a Hobe Sound, Fl based artist; Dominique Italiano bears the same surname as our publication and we are grateful to have found her while searching for ourselves on social media.

MI: We found you searching on social media and noticed your surname "Italiano" are you Italian?

Dominique Italiano: I am third generation Italian-American. I always get so many questions about my last name, its definitely unique! It raised a few flags during my time in Rome and it's a mystery to my family as well, but I love it all the same.

MI: Have you always liked art?

DI: Yeah! I've always loved art. Even since I was a kid, I've always drawn and painted and made a mess. I love the free-flowing nature of it.

MI: You are talking about the free-flow process. Can you describe?

DI: So this isn't going to sound great on paper but I like to think as little as possible when I paint. I focus more on feeling than thinking and where I don't have to attach thoughts to those feelings. I let my hands move with that instead of trying to control things or manipulate them with what should be, right or wrong, and just kind of let it happen.

Interviewedby

MI: Did you have a teacher in art or otherwise who inspired you?

DI: My art teacher in Rome inspired me alot His name is Fabio Whil I was at L'Università degli Studi Roma Tre he taught me how to draw anywhere in Rome and how to not only look-for but, but feel if there was something to capture For example, we would go to the busy Piazza Navona; of course you can draw the Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi. But he also taught me to draw the vendors selling hats and the tourists blowing bubbles. That was a new concept to me, capturing the energy of a moment using art.

MI: Where can people purchase your art? Is it in any galleries?

DI: I have a website, DominiqueItalianoStudios.com. I'm also on facebook and have an Instagram. I run my own studio which is also my gallery, available to see in person by appointment. I'm currently submitting my work to local South Florida galleries and soon people will be able to view my art that way.

MI: What is the most unique facet about you and or your art which you feel a collector might be interested to know?

DI: My whole life I thought everyone could smell or hear in color, or assign colors to feelings.

I didn't realize until much later in life that I had synesthesia and that it's not exactly a common condition So, when I hear, smell or feel something, especially things I find beautiful, my mind sort of bursts with colors, just like my paintings show. These paintings are an invitation into my purest moments of joy and self-expression.

Author Amelia Rogers' novel, "Four Princesses from Provence," highlights the importance of women's roles in history

This novel tells the tale of the four daughters of the Count of Provence With their charms, beauty and intelligence, they rise to the top of the hierarchy moving from their father's small kingdom in the south of France to positions of power across Europe One sister discovers that her new life is a whole different world from the one she knew, and it's going to change everything she believes and knows

While dynastic struggles of the Middle Ages have inspired many popular media pieces such as Game of Thrones, there is less knowledge of the period and its people in their full historical context The author aims to fill this gap while, at the same time, creating an entertaining and dynamic experience for the reader

Author Rogers is an Italian, and she became a writer because she wanted to know about the past It makes her dream, and she has a desire to share this enchantment with others An author with a classical background, her inspiration for "Four Princesses from Provence" comes from her love for the great poet, Dante His masterpiece, "Paradise," mentions four daughters of the ruler of Provence, each of whom became a queen in various countries of Europe Rogers also loves the period of the Middle Ages and had a desire to know more about this often neglected and misunderstood chapter in world history

When asked about the best parts of her book, Rogers answered: "Since the time that I read about him during my school days, I have been a little in love with Manfred the son of the Holy Roman Emperor, Frederick, and the man loved by Beatrice who is one of the four princesses and the protagonist of the book. Dante describes Manfred as 'comely and fair, and gently of aspect.' He would be a hero of any romantic story. Even his sins are forgiven by God and by Dante who placed him in Purgatory rather than in Hell (the Inferno)."

Historical Fiction Portrays the Life and Struggles of Women in Medieval Times
her words, the author paints a socio-political picture of women in the Middle Ages and the roles they played in society.

Building the Bridge to SicilyBreaking Ground Soon?

There have been recent developments in the proposed construction of a bridge linking the Italian mainland to the island of Sicily. An Italian consortium, led by construction company Webuild, is reportedly the frontrunner to win the contract to build the bridge, which is estimated to cost between €6 and €10 billion.

The Webuild consortium, which includes the Italian construction firms Salini Impregilo and Fincantieri Infrastructure, has significant experience in building large-scale infrastructure projects, such as bridges and tunnels. The consortium has reportedly submitted a proposal that includes a suspension bridge design, similar to the iconic Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

If the Webuild consortium is awarded the contract, construction of the bridge is expected to take around a decade to complete. The proposed bridge would span approximately 3.5 miles (5.6 kilometers) of water at its narrowest point, between the Sicilian city of Messina and the Italian mainland city of Villa San Giovanni

Proponents of the bridge argue that it would have numerous benefits, including reducing travel time between Sicily and mainland Italy, improving connectivity between the two regions, and creating jobs during the construction phase. They also believe that the bridge would boost tourism in Sicily and help stimulate economic growth in the region.

However, opponents of the project have raised concerns about the potential environmental impact of the bridge, particularly on the sensitive marine ecosystem in the Strait of Messina. The Strait is home to a variety of marine life, including dolphins, whales, and turtles, and it is an important migration route for several species. Environmental groups fear that the construction and maintenance of the bridge could disrupt this ecosystem, causing irreparable damage to the local biodiversity.

There are also concerns about the seismic risk of the bridge, given that the area is prone to earthquakes. The bridge would need to be designed and built to withstand the high seismic activity in the region, which would add significant costs to the project.

The decision to award the contract for the bridge construction is expected to be made in the coming months, following a review of the proposals submitted by the various bidders. While the bridge to Sicily remains a controversial and ambitious project, it has the potential to significantly improve transportation infrastructure and economic growth in the region, if built responsibly and sustainably.
