The clinic will specialize in preventing, diagnosing, and treating digestive and liver disorders. The goal is to advance the deliver y of care for patients suf fering from all digestive health conditions. Creating increased eff iciency for physicians and creating a seamless patient experience through the thoughtful use of archit ecture, interior design and space planning throughout will be essential to the success of the clinic. This clinic will be flexible and allow for growth due to the changing landscape of healthcare moving more towards value-based care, over volume-based care.

CONC E P T Providing patients with hospitality inspired spa-like feel and amenities will create a sense of calmness and well-being. Creating a space, which leads patients through the facility with ef fective wayf inding techniques through lighting and symbols, will create a less intimidating climate and reduce stress. Focusing on organic architectural elements, such as cur ved walls and rounded corners, will help lead patients through the space and eliminate the common pressures that come along with being in a healthcare environment. Incorporatin g the WELL Building Standards into the design of this facility will assist in creating a healthy and nourishing environment for both the employees and patients of the Scottsdale Digestive Health Clinic.

02 NO I R b e au ty house Given a retail space in Wicker Park, Chicago, Illinois, the goal wa s to design a lash, brow and facial salon. The design intent was to develop an urban chic, high -end salon where customers and clients feel a sense of comfort while being pampered and beautified. Noir Beauty House aims to make ever y client experience one that is unique and tailored to each individual and their needs. The salon will cater to a primar y demographic of 2 0 to 50-year-old sophisticated business women.

CONC E P T Being in a progressive area in Wicker Park, Chicago, much of the market is interested in experimental, natural techniques to beauty, reducing the use of harmful chemicals used in the beauty industr y. Noir has taken a naturalistic approach to their ser vices by using fruit-based and vegan products. This is reflected in the design through the use of pops of rich color and various textures of natural ingredients throughout the space. An urban aesthetic will be used through the space to reflect the traditional look of Wicker Park and the use of chic, luxe furnishings and fixtures will give the customer and the client an essence of upscale, high-end products.

ZONIN G Creating multiple zones for dif ferent activity levels and purposes is important for the functionality of the space. Dividing the space between public/retail space, semi-private/client appointment space, and private/back-of-house operations space creates an ef ficient circulation path for both clients, customers, and employees.

In a salon setting where the purpose of the space is for both retail sales + private client appointments, creating a division between these spaces is important. This division is created with visual barriers, while also making the client experience a desirable one. Clients are defined as those coming into the salon for a private appointment, while customers are defined as those coming in to peruse the retail selection displayed at the front of the salon. To create a more desirable experience for the clients, a semi-private comfortable, laid-back waiting area with a face washing and make-up application area is placed to the left of the entr y, and is partially visible to customers who are shopping. This is meant to attract those customers in further to m ake a private appointment to experience those amenities.

Each retail display has its own personal light fixture. Display tables feature a glass pendant light overhead to illuminate the products. Display shelf is illuminated by track spot lights. These light fixtures help to signal wayfinding for the customer.

Using a combination of decorative, pendant and recessed lighting throughout the space emphasizes the beauty of the raw and honest materiality. Given a 27,000-square-foot two-stor y lease space in Castleberr y Hill, Atlanta, Georgia, the goal is to develop a headquarters workplace location for Alo Yoga. The work space is to be furnished with Herman Miller of fice furniture, which will cater to the needs of each departm ent within the company. This was a group project. Co-founded in 2007 by Danny Harris + Marco DeGeorge, in Los Angeles, California, Alo Yoga is a studio-to-street high-performance active wear brand that is relentless about making the best yoga clothing in the world explicitly to inspire yogis (and yogis to be) to have more yoga in their life. Inspiring mindful movement is at the core of why Alo does what they do; believing that mindful movement leads to better living. The term studio-to-street not only means wearing Alo’s highperformance, runway inspired, mindfully modern style, but also living through mindful movement by taking the Alo vision from the studio and practicing it throughout daily life. Alo believes yogis will connect with their community by literally wearing their practice and sharing their active lifestyle.

Christian Benini began his career as a portrait photographer and went on to specialize in fashion and publicity photography. He has worked closely with advertising agencies and fashion houses in Italy, the UK and the USA. Being that this is the largest classroom meant to accommodate 38 individuals, zoning is important. The front of the classroom features two dif ferent types of tables, both with access to power and one with the option to raise one side of the desk exposing a monitor for digital content sharing. Towards the back of the room by the windows, three collaboration areas feature seating for groups of four, marker board space for analog content sharing, and acoustical boundaries to address acoustical issues that may arise in a large space such as this one. In the corners towards the front of the room are seating and table areas for individual or smaller group work.

p ortu gu e se c u i si ne bist ro Given a small 40’-0” x 28’-0” footprint, the goal was to develop an upscale Portuguese bistro- style restaurant to seat 45 guests. The floor plan was to include an entr y area with waiting space for 4, a host station, a bar with seating for 5, a small ser ver station, a door to access the kitchen and a doorway to access the toilet rooms. The client asked for design elements and features from classic Portuguese architecture and culture.

When entering the bistro, one is greeted by a wooden host stand backed by a large planter featuring an abundance of greener y native to the Portuguese landscape, to make the guest feel as though they are in a Portuguese oasis. A feature bar in the back invites guests to view all seating options throughout the space while making their way back for a drink or quick bite to eat. Surrounding the antiqued mirror behind the b ar is a large arch, resembling classic Portuguese architecture. Concrete floors throughout depict the urban life and ornate tile around the bar, kitchen, restrooms and entr y is unique to the histor y of Portuguese interiors.

Given a corner unit lease space in the Chelsea Market in New York City, the goal is to develop a modern yet classic baker y for two individuals with dif ferent aesthetic taste. One client wishes to pay homage to the desi gn and the urban histor y of the market, while the o ther prefers a more modern, trendy aesthetic. The expectation is a fusion of the two styles.

Accentuating the existing oversized arched windows with bold velvet draper y, keeping the existing brick and modernizing it with a white wash, and staining the exposed ceiling beams in a dark, rich brown creates a space that withholds the integrity of its original character and marries it with a modern, timeless aesthetic.
SEATIN G Focusing on providing multiple seating options and postures for customers with bar seating, lounge seating, and a communal dining table, is important as they use the space for casual conversation, a bite to eat, or focus work on a laptop or in a book.
DISPL AY Showcasing baker y items in a glass display case along the bar seating encourages customers to purchase more, even i f their intention is to only come in and work.
