NATURE, DELIVERED Bring the power of plants into your home with the help of home delivery.
Nature, Delivered
BRING THE POWER OF PLANTS INTO YOUR HOME one delivery at a time
By Heather Shoning
WANT AN EASY WAY to connect with nature? How about a cleaner, healthier home environment? The key to both is house plants. Like an even easier way to achieve both? Plants delivered right to your front door! A handful of local businesses are making it easy for you to bring air-cleaning, attention-sharpening, productivity-boosting greenery into your home—and, yes, studies have shown houseplants can provide all of these benefits.
You can embark on your green-thumb adventure in a variety of ways. Shop your local garden store, visit a specialty plant shop or order online for home delivery or a subscription plant service.
Léon & George’s Castle Rock outpost offers delivery of single plants or bundles. All plants come in simple, sleek pots with a few neutral color options (mostly black, white, gray and sand). You’ll find a couple of dozen plant varieties in every size, from small (about 8 inches tall) to extra-large (up to 5 feet tall). The Sill, another online retailer, offers a similar variety of plants, but you can sign up for a subscription to have a new plant delivered each month if you’re looking to build a mini jungle!
Speaking of jungle, some local specialty plant shops will provide in-house assessments to help you grow and care for your indoor wilderness. The experts at Denver’s ReRoot will assess your plant needs, observe the environment and help you build a plan to “reroot” your home. Then, they’ll supply you with everything you need, including care instructions. And if your thumb is not so green, they’ll provide weekly, bi-weekly or monthly services to keep your lush live plants in tip-top shape.

Natalie Unplugged
Colorado-based fitness influencer Natalie Uhling talks shop
By Kathryn O’Shea-Evans
CELEBRITY FITNESS TRAINER Natalie Uhling—founder of NUFit—has helped women around the globe achieve their fitness goals through her brand and her other fitness-related roles. She has worked with fitness leaders, professional athletes and celebrities, among others. She was a female ambassador for Under Armour and a lead female trainer on an NBCU TV platform Radius Fitness. Various media outlets have featured her, including Shape and Women’s Health magazines. After moving to Colorado in 2015, she spent two years as the master trainer for the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders.
Today, she’s a mom of two, and she teaches her signature fitness method—a fullbody workout that fuses dance and spot toning, all wrapped up in self-love, empowerment and fun—to one-on-one clients. “Once I had kids, I wanted to do the ‘drop-off-and-pick-up thing’ so this schedule works best for me and where I am in my personal life,” she says. Uhling recently chatted with us about everything from the reasons busy parents should make time for a workout (it’s not what you think) to her addictive Spotify playlists.
What brought you to Colorado?
We just wanted a lifestyle change, to be honest—sunny skies and great weather! I lived in New York for 11 years, went to the Fashion Institute of Technology and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in advertising and marketing. Later I worked for Ralph Lauren in product development in the footwear division and later in their marketing division. And I met my husband in New York. He’s in private equity and runs his own shop, so we were able to literally pick on a map: “Where do you want to live?” I grew up in Idaho, so the West and big skies and good weather and mountains are very familiar to me. So, we thought, “Let’s go to Denver.” And we did.
When did you start NUFit, and why?
I started it in 2012 with beta classes, and it took off. While working at Ralph Lauren, I always taught fitness classes as my side hustle. But there were no studios, and then everything popped: Soul Cycle, Barry’s Bootcamp. Things started getting hot in the fitness area, and I thought, “Okay, I can actually make a living at this.” NUFit is a hybrid of dance, cardio and toning, with really great music. My clients love my energy, and that we work a lot of the accessory muscle groups with light weights, lots of reps and in tons of different ways. The results are amazing. Simultaneously, I was doing fitness modeling and signed an exclusive deal with Under Armour in 2012. I was the face of the brand, traveled all over the country for them and worked with Misty Copeland, Tom Brady and Lindsey Vonn … just to name a few. I signed another three-year exclusive deal with them, and my agency at the time had never seen someone who wasn’t a pro athlete sign an exclusive with a brand like this.

Well, we grew up skate skiing or Nordic skiing. We go up to Devil’s Thumb Ranch and skate ski all the time. It’s super fun because we can pull the kids in the sleigh behind us. It’s really aerobic. And we love to hike with our Goldendoodle. In Aspen, Electric Pass is a really fun one that we love. And then Devil’s Thumb, we’ve done that a ton.
You’re a full-on Coloradan! Very inspiring. What’s your wellness routine?
Since becoming a mom, my focus on being in shape has shifted. I believe the body needs to be in shape, but my real focus now is the mind. We exercise because of mental health, and that’s been so key for me. Exercise can be a saving grace for anxiety, depression … all that stuff. In my early twenties, I’d care about having a sixpack, but now it’s all about mental health. And that’s the focus for my clients, too. I wake up every day being so grateful that I can move my body. It just shifts everything in my day.
When did you fall in love with teaching fitness?
I’ve wanted to do this since I was a kid. If you had asked me in junior high, even then, I would have said: “I just want to teach aerobics!” I taught kickboxing when I was in high school. I’ve been a part of this whole thing for a long time and love the community. Fitness brings so many amazing people together that you would’ve never met if you didn’t see each other in a studio or have a commonality in terms of movement. I’ve met my best friends because of fitness.
Last question. Do you have a couple of songs or artists you recommend for workouts?
Sure! All of my playlists are available on Spotify; my profile is natalieuhling. My workout stuff is all there, just click to follow. My clients love my playlists for all of their workouts. natalieuhlingfitness.com

Paradise Found. Sterling Custom Homes has 16 sites in The Timbers with mountain views.
Award winning builder Sterling Custom Homes can create a lavishly styled and appointed home for you on one of 16 remaining sites, all of them wrapped by pine forest and sized for privacy, and with great mountain views
At a moment when too much talk is about what you can’t have, award-winning builder Sterling Custom Homes has a final release of home sites at Timbers at The Pinery near Parker, where you can create a home every bit as big as your expectations—four or five bedrooms, a finished walkout lower level, a four-car garage, and the chance to fashion your own, special balance of spaces, their sizes and finishes.
There are only 16 of those final sites remaining at The Timbers at The Pinery in Parker, and they’re just 25 minutes from the Denver Tech Center and the heart of the south I-25 corridor.
“With that combination of seclusion and easy access to urban attractions, we’ve sold custom homes in The Timbers at a fast pace all year,” says builder Woody Howarth.
Sterling Custom Homes orients each home to make the best use of those view corridors and other site features. With a 20-year reputation, Sterling is widely respected for its quality, customer service, and eye-catching contemporary styling— characteristics that have made its homes fast sellers in exclusive neighborhoods throughout the Denver area.
You can choose a home site in The Timbers and work with Woody on a custom design of your choosing—or you can pick from a choice selection of customshowcase homes that Sterling is now launching.
The styles of those range from midcentury modern, to modern prairie, to mountain modern, with time to make your own selections of finish and trim options. Ranch plans with walkout lower levels have been the overwhelming favorite among recent buyers, but Sterling creates family-sized multilevel plans, as well; and can create a perfect design for the family wanting multigenerational living.
You can tour all 16 sites during your visit to The Timbers, and you’ll see how close this is to major grocery shopping and choice Douglas County Schools. The Timbers also provides great access to the neighborhood’s Pinery Country Club, with a scenic golf course, swimming, indoorand-outdoor tennis, and plenty of event space; with memberships available at very reasonable rates.
And you’ll experience how very accessible The Timbers is to urban
attractions, compared to other estate-sized home sites in Douglas and Elbert Counties.
Right now, prices start from the low $2 millions; and time will quickly run out on those final sites. “Buyers need to be looking at the plans and sites now, particularly if they want to be taking occupancy next year,” Howarth notes.
The Timbers at The Pinery delivers high-speed internet, natural gas lines, and city water and sewer services. To visit the community, head south on Parker Road, five miles past Parker’s downtown, continue past the country club to S. Pinery Pkwy, then turn east 2.5 miles. Or from I-25 take Castle Pines Pkwy east (becomes Hess) to Parker Road and turn south 3 miles to Pinery Pkwy South.
All sixteen final home sites have mountain views, and homes are being oriented to make the most of them
Creigh
Kelley How running saved his life
By Jessica Hughes
IF YOU’RE A RUNNER—and you race—or if you cheer on a road racer, you’ve probably heard the iconic voice of Creigh Kelley (pronounced “Cree”). He’s been announcing races around the country for more than 40 years including the Chicago Marathon, the Walt Disney World Marathon, many of the popular Rock ‘n’ Roll series events and, right here at home, the Colfax Marathon. In addition to being an announcer, Kelley has been a lifelong runner, competitor, race director, agent and, for more than 50 years, he’s been an inspiring leader in the running community both in Colorado and around the world.
He even credits his favorite sport with saving his life when stage 4 cancer knocked on his door in 2012. During chemo, he found himself constantly thinking: “When can I start running again?” Within two weeks of getting the cancerfree diagnosis, he was out running and describes it “as part of saving my life on a daily basis.”
Running has been and still is his lifeline, both physically and mentally. It’s opened so many doors for his career and has aided in his physical and mental health. “Running can save your life,” Kelley says. He also acknowledges that as a runner, he can make an impact on others—their health and their lives. Kelley says, “One thing—as a runner—you must realize and accept is the burden that every time you step outside for a run, people are watching you. When you’re out there, people might just say, ‘I could do that if that person can do that.’ Your run might inspire others to do the same thing.”
HOW IT ALL STARTED As a sophomore in high school in Connecticut, Kelley found himself running with the wrong crowd, but decided to go out for track with one of the “cool kids.” The coach told him: “You’re skinny, you can run the mile.” He did, and he made the team. He soon became one of the top five runners in the state in the two-mile race. “God winks,” says Kelley, which is how he describes the moment the track coach accepted him and changed the course of his life.
Kelley continued running in college at the Virginia Military Institute, where he says he cried the entire first week of school. It was tough but it didn’t matter, he was there to run. That became his focus for the next four years. When he served in the Vietnam War in 1969, he stopped running and picked up smoking. After leaving the war and earning a graduate degree, he moved to Atlanta in the mid-70s. “God winked” again—right around the time society was getting the message it was unhealthy to smoke around a pregnant woman, his wife became pregnant.
So, he traded in his cigarettes for a pair of running shoes, sold to him by none other than Olympian Jeff Galloway at Galloway’s local running store in Atlanta. Soon, Galloway was coaching him, and just like that his love affair with running was reignited. Kelley says his journey with

CREIGH’S TIPS FOR BEGINNING RUNNERS
PICK THE RIGHT DOCTOR: one who understands the impacts of running.
INVESTING IN A GOOD PAIR OF SHOES is key.
COMMIT TO YOUR BODY IN MOTION for at least 30 minutes a day—even if it’s walking. Build from there. REEVALUATE YOUR DIET. Eat better foods that energize you.
FIND OTHERS IN YOUR COMMUNITY to run with. Motivation can be found in numbers.
SCHEDULE YOUR RUN like it is the most important meeting of the day.

running is “the one common element that has allowed me to move forward in one direction.”
Ultimately, that one direction pointed him toward Denver in 1978 to open a running store. He also helped start BKB Limited (a company that put on running events in Colorado and across the country) and became an agent for elite runners. About two years later, he began announcing for events all over the world including the Sydney Olympics in 2000.
THE RACE GOES ON In 2021, Kelley received the MarathonFoto Road Race Management Lifetime Achievement Award for his notable contributions to the sport of long-distance road running. And with a resume like his, it’s easy to see why he won such an award.
But out of all that he’s contributed to the sport, announcing has been the most fun for Kelley. He loves that he can share with the rest of the world the feelings runners have at the end of a race with his interviews and interactions with the runners.
“Those were the things that built me up over the years,” Kelley says. And he’s proud to be able to help build up runners right here at home. Since its inception in 2006, Kelley has been an integral part of the Colfax Marathon and has served as the race director since 2008.
Today, Kelley stays fit with a goal of running every other day; eating clean, healthy foods; and incorporating post-run stretches and light weights for building muscle. He says running along the Highline Canal is his favorite for long runs. It’s not his running stats that make him who he is—although an “accidental” 31-mile training run and an all-time PR of a 2:32 marathon time is no small feat—it’s the commitment and excitement he has for the sport and the industry. It’s what motivates him to stay the course. “Put your feet on the floor and go out the door,” Kelley says, “and start a journey to save your life!”
