DIVING INTO SUMMER

OK, I KNOW we all love ski season, but summer in Colorado is my favorite. I love the heat and sun, the hiking and biking, traveling to the high country and shopping farmers markets. Our mission at AvidLifestyle is to share the stories, places, people and events that make our community—and our state—great. We’ve gone all out in this issue to help you plan a trip to the Western Slope, among other things.

The other side of the divide has so much to offer in the way of scenery, but there’s so much more. Our giant feature article (Summer Splendor, page 42) offers upwards of 50 ideas for staying, dining, shopping and doing. In addition, we share recipes made from Western Slope foods and spirits (A Taste of the Western Slope, page 26), and introduce you to Ben Parsons, a wine industry disrupter who moved west to grow his own grapes (Uprooted, page 58). And be sure to pack your clubs when you head to Grand Junction to play a round at Redlands Mesa Golf Course with picturesque backdrops of stunning mountains and the iconic red rock landscape.

When you’re at home, why not enjoy some epic adventure in your own backyard (Backyard Bonanza, page 32). Local landscaping companies weigh in on creating your dream outdoor space complete with fire, water and boulders—for climbing. Or maybe you’re looking for a low-maintenance yard. Xeriscaping could be the solution for you. Learn more about how this concept was coined right here in the Centennial State (Go Native, page 38).

Peruse these pages for even more great content including some buzz-worthy eats in Castle Rock (Standout Summer Flavors, page 22) and how to care for summertime skin (Summer Skincare, page 56). And as always, check out the calendar (starting on page 14) for some fun local events you won’t want to miss. I know I’ll be out there enjoying every summer moment. C’mon, dive in with me!
