AWAKENING
#Awakaning is a photographers collective working in the Editorial, Social and features We offer Photographic reportages, video, graphic design and journalistic articles thanks to the collaboration with other professionals. Our team, from photo-reporter to journalists are available for projects all around the world
ABOUT US
Taking inspiration from #Dysturb we aim to focus mainly on local social news. #Awakening is the latest step in a movement that has seen photographers often excludedfrom traditional publishing avenues. With the popularity of social platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, we like to buildour own audience, free of any editorial and commercial control.
Our Philosophy:
We would like to “wake up” passers by showcasing news in large formats, exhibiting our work freely on the walls in the streets
We defend an editorial line free
We aim to “wake up” the creativity and the social side of the photographers bringing back documentary photography to its activism roots. We are driven by the desire to make the “real” information of an image freely accessible through the occupation of urban spaces.
of commercial influence. We are committed not to damage public spaces by using water based adhesive. We focus on local and social stories to increase awareness.
This annual reports are intended to give information about the #Awakening’s activities in 2015
The “Big Ships” project
The #Awakening “Big Ships project wanted to highlight in a strong way but at the same time respectful of the city, the social and local discomfort linked to the passage of cruise ships in the Venetian lagoon. The posters were sticked to the walls in different parts of the city, showing to all of those who stopped to watch these giant prints a different aspect of the city: not any more an idyllic and shrouded in mystery Venice but rather a city that is about to be invaded by sea monsters as tall as skyscrapers crossing the water space, dominating and overshadowing the city with repercussions on the ecosystem of the fragile Venetian Lagoon.
