2022 CONSTRUCTION ON THE ANDREW WEIL CENTER FOR INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE

Groundbreaking for the 30,000-square-foot Center occurred in May 2022 and construction is expected to be completed in fall 2023. The new facility will include three buildings surrounded by desert gardens and linked by a series of pathways. It was designed to embody our tenet of whole-person wellness and the principles of integrative health. Each building will represent an aspect of the whole person: mind, body and spirit.

“I am feeling total satisfaction and delight at seeing this construction. I think having this building right in the heart of the medical campus of the University of Arizona is a great statement of the progress we’ve made. Integrative Medicine is becoming mainstream.

“My hopes for the building are that it will attract people from all over the world who want to learn more about Integrative Medicine, and understand the mission of the our Center which is to transform medicine, medical education, and healthcare. We hope it will serve as a place to educate the public about self-care, wellness, and how to best use integrative therapies.”

“This building is called the Mind… where the minds of the people who do the work develop the content and the research concepts…using their creative vision for Integrative Medicine.

“That building we call the Body… where we’ll have our teaching kitchen…do yoga... We’ll be physically active in a variety of ways.

“And then, we also have the Spirit. That is our meditation space.

“In addition to being a place for education and training, this complex will serve as a ‘living lab’ for integrative medicine collaborative research on place and well-being.”

“When I join[ed] the Center, my dream was to link[it with] the College of Medicine–Tucson, and the College of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture to carry out research and instantiate wellbeing in the built environment.

“It is exciting to see these two sides of my life’s work come together in this building complex: the research on the science of the mind-body connection, and the impact of the built environment on health.”
