Information technology infrastructure
CYEC has the following: state of the art indoor sports facility
Lack of enough information technology infrastructures at the centres to enable the youth get equipped with ICT skills. Most of the centres visited either didn’t have computers and internet installed, while the few facilitated didn’t serve the intended purpose of solely benefitting the youth.
Poor coordination and cooperation between the DYOS and the youth. There’s great discrepancy between some DYO’S and the youth in some areas. There is a lot of nepotism, favors and corruption cases in terms of who accesses the centres and even other services and facilities such as the youth enterprise development fund.
Improper use of the youth centres by some DYO’S and other government officials. In some areas, the youth empowerment centres are fully equipped but have been transformed to serve as storage facilities for relief food, thereby hindering the youth from accessing them and benefitting from them. In some, the youth are charged to use the computers and internet facilities.
Political interference especially with regards to the completion of the remaining phases of the constituency youth empowerment centres. Most of the remaining phases are to be funded by the CDF. Most politicians have transformed the youth empowerment centres as a campaign tool and a platform to seek votes from the youth. Alternatively, others try to frustrate the projects if they happen to lie near their opponents’ locality.
