M A RC C H A L M É Marc Chalmé, born in Lorient, France, in 1969, graduated from a famous French art academy in 1990. From then on he learned the art of painting with Rome prizewinner Georges Pichon. He has been practicing drawing for the past twenty years, a way for him to exploit a natural gift, while developing his own style in painting. His first solo show occurred in 2005 and since then Marc has been exhibited regularly throughout France. In 2013, the last presentation of his painting at the Galerie Mouvances in Paris was acclaimed by the critics in the famous “Gazette Drouot”, France’s largest fine arts auction house review. Marc has inherited from a European tradition of painting with a predilection for the craft and technique of old masters like Vermeer and Velasquez but his compositions unfurl a true modernity in their structure. Such feature can easily be espied in his characters as well as in his interiors: they are brushed in a penetrating way while light plays its crucial part in revealing each element in its strangeness and intimacy. Is it a dream? Is it a remembrance? In Marc’s world only one thing is for sure, there is a secret enrapturing the viewer. And Belgian painter Paul Delvaux may have defined its nature when he said : “I paint canvases in which I would like to live in”. – David Mazhari
