SynCross - Flexible Routing and Distribution
Features SynCross is a Synapse based modular video routing system capable of switching 3Gb/s, HD and SD SDI signals, as well as compressed domain signals such as ASI/DVB and SSI/SMPTE-310. The SynCross routing system is housed in standard Synapse frames occupying a single slot for an 8 input, 8 output system (with the SCG0808) and up to 5 slots for a 40x40 routing solution. Existing SynCross systems can be easily expanded up to 40 in and outputs, with electrical, fiberoptical or a mix between optical and electrical connections. The system can be controlled over the Ethernet, by Cortex or using Cortex Control Panels. ACP (Axon Control Protocol) and a dedicated Ethernet port are available for control from automation systems.
The GXP880 is the center part of the SynCross system and can be used as a standalone 8x8 router. This board contains the cross-point module capable of routing between 40 inputs and outputs. Expansion I/O modules are connected to the central cross-point via special back panel interconnections allowing all boards to remain hot swappable.

Flexible I/O With the SynCross compact router range there is flexibility not only with respect to the type of signals but also in the way the signals are physically connected. SynCross supports 3Gb/s, HD and SD SDI as well as ASI/DVB, composite (SD), HDMI and SSI/SMPTE-310 signals. All the physical connections are provided by user configurable SFP modules. These modules are well known as fiber I/O, Axon has utilized the SFP form factor to also provide SDI, composite physical connectivity using DIN1.0/2.3 connectors. This means that SynCross is a SDI capable router, a fiber router, a composite router a HDMI router and can also be a mixed I/O router.

SynCross - Flexible Routing and Distribution
Modularity and expansion Like all Synapse related products this router is modular. The Cross-point board has local SFP slots providing the connectivity for a 8x8 router, the system is expandable by adding up to 4 I/O boards. As a user you are able to start with an 8x8 router and expand to 16x16 by adding one I/O board. By adding further I/O modules it is possible to grow with your system up to 40 inputs and 40 outputs. When an I/O module is added to your system the cross-point board will automatically recognize this and will route to/from the I/O’s accordingly.

SynCross can be installed in every size of Synapse frame. In a SFR04 it is possible to install two 16x16 routers, two 32x32 routers can be accommodated in a SFR08 frame and an SFR18 will hold multiple 40x40 routers. Because of this the compact router can take advantage of the Synapse frames; for example advanced control, double reference distribution and redundant power supplies.

The back panels are still passive like most of the back panels used in the Synapse system, the SFP modules the only parts which are active. These modules are also hot swappable.
Control With the SynCross modular router there is not only highly flexible I/O types and video standards but also multiple ways of controlling the system. Physically there are two types of connectors to control the SynCross router. The Cross-point board’s back panel is equipped with an Ethernet connection. When the system is expanded with one or multiple I/O boards there are two more types of control possible; this expansion enables control through a serial connection and/or GPI control both physically available on a RJ45 connector.
