The look of these icons were inspired by International City, the most popular area in Warsan and a very diversed area with its many cultures and athic groups, as well as it streets that consists mostly of roundabouts.
• There will be many people to interview • I would find it easiar to drive around the city (not get lost) • There will be places to visit > I looked up some in Google maps • I would find interesting scenes worth mentioning • I thought I would not be shy walking around and talking to people • I believed it will be crowded and many people are walking around • I believed I would find people from different nationalities.
Therefore, I have decided I would focus mainly on International City in my tourist guid.

In project 1 I have picked Warsan as the place I would like to do a tourist guid for. I have created 10 items that describes 10 catogaries in Warsan.
• What is your name? • How old are you? • What do you do for living (job)? • Where do you live? • Since when do you live here? • Where are you from? • What do you like about International City? • What do you dislike about International City? • Where do you like to go in IC? • Describe the life here. • What do you do in your free time? • What would you like to be changed? • Where do you recomment me to go next?

Bfore starting my icons I went on a trip to Warsan, and took a couple of videos: I passed by the buildings of International city and was impressed by how they looked. I went once, but at night and was not able to focus on it; but this time, because it was morning, I was able to find it very interesting. Was of the most impressing things about this area is that every building looks different, you can see London, Spain and Italy on the 6 images. From what I read, international City has many projects, some are ongoing and some are nearly done. The two last pictures show the Lake district (right) and the construction of Forbidden City (Left). For the next time I decided I would walk around and take proper images and videos as these did not look as professional. I would also interview few people and ask about this place and its interesting locations that I must visit and look into.

We had an assignment for another class to find resources about Bamboo, which was a great opportunity to visit the plants shop in Warsan and take a couple of pictures and videos of the area. I also have been there once with my father, but this was my first time going deep inside the nurseries and be even more fascinated by the amount of different types of plants that the place has. I noticed that mostly western people are shopping in there. I even asked about a specific plant and the seller was nice enough to guide me to another nursery that has it which means that it is a helpful environment.

This was a chinese market that I have went to which was I extremely facinated! It was so cool I thought I wan in China. Every product is exported from China. I have found few items that I have never seen before, from vegatables, spices and snacks. I went there with no expectations. I also found someone to interview.
I was driving around and descided I would be brave and go out of my car and trying going inside a coffe shop, and it was a good decision to make! It was like a hidden gem, they had lots of cakes to try, I ordered a buble tea and a cake and they were delicious..

interview 1 from China living in IC from only 2 weeks, and transportation is the biggest problem.
interview 2 from philipenes linving for 6 years, and loving the life in IC because everyone is lovely and is very happy and helpful
P R E S E N TAT I O N I started my presentation with a brief introduction of myself, and what is my project about (the location: Warsan) I mentioned the way I have planned my trip, including my thoughts and preparation.
*
I think taking a real camera is better that your phone as the quality is 10 times better than a normal camera phone and would look more professional.
I then talked about the Chinese market I went to. Everyone was impressed as much as I did when I went there. I also talked about my first interview
*
It is interesting how she mentioned transportation and saw it a nagitave aspect, why? look more into that; how do people transport through the area.
P R E S E N TAT I O N
Later on, I have talked about my findings; one is that I have found a couple of abondended cars around the area. The second is finding really small shops on the edges of the buildings that sells breads and similar foods. I have captured a picture of motorcycles as I think transportantion is an important part of the city; and thought I would like to talk about transportation in general in the area. I have also noticed the different architectural enterances of the different clusters which were quit interesting (I may not use them in my book as they give no functional benifit but I could use the shape it) I have also disscused what could I do the next time I go to this area.
*
You have a pretty interesting location, try investagating more, you interviewed 2 people only, which is not enough. think of your targeted audience as it would influnce your chain of thours. Also think of your content, do not waste time on things that are not related to your topic but try lookings into what is more related to what you are focused on. The abondended car is interesting as you said you saw a couple of these, look more into that. Moreover, as you intered the cafe without intention, and you were impressed, maybe there are more places like that through out the area. Go back and look into it more. Another thing, take photos with a real camera and not a phone.

DRAGON MART Dragon Mart is one of the mainplaces I needed to go to in International City. I have already been there a couple of times, and was always wondering what hidden places does it have. I went into corridors and areas I have never been to before. I did interview a couple of people but they all had the same answers. Customers loves this place because it has almost everything you need, and sellers said they like it when people find them and buy from them which was a struggle to a lot of them especially with Dragon Mart 2 opening next door, and also with prices being too high for customers.
This lady was extremely nice, she paid for Karak for me, and we sat and had a chat. She expressed happiness being in such a diversed place but unfortuntally, the only thing making her sad are rude customers who would treat her badly. She is also struggling with people buying from her as she does not have enough money and may not have to support her. She lives alone in International City but she actually does not go out there, she only comes back and forth to Dragon Mart.
i was told that this small cafe has been her in Dragon Mart for more than 13 years. I wanted to interview the man standing, who was maybe Syrian, but he did not allow it explaining that he can get into trouble and people of other nationalities may not care about this much, but he does. I sat and drank fresh mango juice.
While moving around, I kept every perfume tesetr I was given (but some I may have thrown away). There were lots of these stores that sell perfume that asks you to buy. most of the time, it is hard to go away without buying as sellers are good promoters! I also noticed lots of Omani people

secondary research
For my secondary research I have looked at different sites that would help me with getting more information about International City, and problems related to it, and other important information. One of the first things I have looked for were information about International City. I found 2 sites that were extremely helpful when it comes to getting more information about the city clusters and their architectural style: www.uae-property.org and www.providentestate.com However, these sites www.providentestate.com and lookup.ae, were beneficial when I wanted to know about International City in general. For the rental and residential parts I looked at them from ww.nakheel.com. For the restaurant category, I have only considered www.zomato.com because of how easy it is to look for restaurants and coffee shops by just writing the location, I can also find value information and reviews. Because I wanted to write about Dubai in my booklet, I looked into different sites with different information. seasonsyear.com, for example, had information about the weather in Dubai, and from www.dubai.com I gathered even more information, especially about the Holidays and Festivals in Dubai in 2017. For transportation, they were mostly information I found on my own and also concluded by myself. However, I looked into metros in international city as it seemed people were having an issue with transportation and from ww.emirates247.com I was able to find when will a metro line be established in International City. I also got information about the bus routes in International city from www.propertyfinder.ae.
More information in Dragon mart were easy to find, there were many sites that offer valid information, but I mostly got mine from www.dragonmart.ae and dragonmartguide.com. For the recreation category, I have looked into what fitness centers and spas are there in International City, and it was all from www.fabogo.com, which was a really helpful site Everything related to the maps in my booklet, I had google map, and maps.me; I also was able to find information about the city itself, like the number of sport and play grounds, the number of mosques, the location of bus stops, and the names of areas. International City is located in Warsan, and around Warsan, there are a lot of places that are worthy of mentioning; I have looked into these locations by just typing their title in google, and finding value information in their sites or blogs and newspaper sites. For example, from www.dubai-shopping-secrets.com, I found information about Al Aweer Nurseries (Which name I did not know until looking it up), Desert Palm Polo Club, from www.desertpalmpolo.com, Pets and Birds Market from www.dm.gov.ae, and Dubai Textile City from texmas.com and gulfnews.com Actually, from gulfnews.com, I have found many information and recent news about different topics in my booklet, for example: Sewage Treatment Plant. It was a major problem in International City and I thought I had to add it. I also read about this issue in www.thenational.ae. I bookmarked these pages to get back to.
one of my most interesting founding was a site that had people reviewing each cluster of International City: www.flatreviews.com The reviews were recent so I decided I would copy these reviews and have them highlight what is important. The place stinks coz of the sewage plant. The quality of the building is so cheap that every other day there is a breakdown in the building. Every six months the ac leaks. Don›t even get me started on the neighbors. They are ridiculous shouting all day and a family living a bachelors life style. Kids running around at 2:00 a.m. and parents who cant understand your complaining coz they don›t speak English. I live on the 1st floor and have a terrace in front of my room which double as a garbage area for the apartments above me. I see dead birds, coca cola cans, ear buds and tissues. I have seen slums in which people are much more hygienic. Trust me when I say this. Chinese restaurant below my apartment has customers who have long conversations regarding the economy of the world at 1:00 a.m. standing right below my terrace. Oh the massage center cards stuck to my door. I just wish I had a dirham for every card I have thrown out, I would have moved to Burj Khalifa. The only problem is the traffic in the main entrance road especially during peak hours in the evening. The same thing at the main exit during early morning. Aside from those issue, I am contented and happy in our residence for we have been living here for 10 years now. Studio Apartment Reviewed on: 2015/01/16 Reviewed by: Radito Age: 54-49 Originally from: Philippines Lived here: Alone Lived here in: 2011 International City offers affordable decent housing for expats like me. Price is competitive in the market but that is considering it is a bit far from the main downtown of Dubai. Being in the outskirts of the city has both its pros and cons, The good side is you are away from the bustle of the city, IC also has wide public areas in between the buildings with running tracks and basketball/ activity court. Around IC are many grocery marts, laundry services and varied fast food and low-range restaurants. The main disadvantage though is the traffic during rush hours in the morning (10-7) and evening (8-5) because there is only one main entrance road and exit road from/to the village. This has been a long-standing issue ever since and we residents have been sacrificing our valued time, stress and patience for this. Looking forward that the developer in coordination with municipality opens up alternate routes going into and out of Internatiional City. The best: Value for money The worst: Traffic at entrance / exit

I have been living in International City for more than 2 years now, but not because I love it so much, but because this is all I can afford, since the rent spiked so outrageously over the past year. This area has the least amount of facilities I have ever seen (no security, no pool, no gym, no proper cleaning), not to mention the horrid smell coming from the sewarage plant from time to time, which they have no interest in fixing. I would call living in this area a compromise, only due to the fact that they haven›t increased my rent a lot, compared to new tenants that have to pay double. If I had a choice, I wouldn›t go there to even walk my dog (which by the way is not allowed there))
International City is really good, As everyone knows the traffic and parking issue is main never ending issue in Dubai. I can tell you International City is the final word for this issue. They giving surprising facility for parking at free for guest as well as own parking. All the clusters are having many supermarkets, polyclinics, pharmacy etc. Also very near to airport, Dubai Mall and all other mainstream area. Only one negative thing is the rent is regularly increasing without a cap.

I like to live in a community where recreational facilities, common play area for children are available. However, the most important aspect is the security and spacious flat with proper waste disposal and covered parking facilities. Rent also should be reasonable. I would like to enjoy an option if I can choose to own this flat after 2 years of stay and adjust my rents towards the deal price.
Of all the Clusters in International City, i find Emirati cluster the most peaceful, very quiet and not overcrowded. Studio is larger compare to other places in Dubai having the same rates. Access Card is somewhat to our advantage and disadvantage. Advantages: not all people can just enter the building. Disadvantage, if you order, or you have visitors, you have to go down open the access door.

The overall area of our community is good for the people who wanted to avoid the rush and traffic of Dubai with affordable living expenses. The transport system is very good with approx every mode of transport is connected. Recommended for the people who recently join Dubai or for those expats families who wanted to save money with better living. The only negative factor is the gentry that›s not so good for the families, bachelors are more in numbers.
Moved here just before the rents sky rocketed. I got lucky with this flat at 75sq.m it is bigger than the rest of the 1 bedroom flats around, so my family and I live comfortably even with our occasional guest. The building is just located in front of the last round about goin out of intl city so easy in easy out, we never really encountered much traffic. The building is owned by a private company so we get free maintenance (a/c, plumbing and electrical). And most of the times the building is clean. Down side the exhaust aren›t really working properly but I really don›t mind cause I can always open my windows and the balcony when I cook. Parking. Due to the car rental shops who are occupying most of the slots it›s a bit tricky when u get home late. The # of bachelors roaming around doesn›t make it ideal for me to go down and play with my son in the small grass area down our building. Up side, dso and mirdif is very near I can always take him there. Also shops are everywhere so if u are out of something u can always give them a call and they deliver.

With my experience I would like to say that International City is the best economical place to live in Dubai. It has easy access to commercial facilities and available all the time in near locations. This place is recommended for mediocre families and individuals who would like to emphasis on savings without having so much impact on living standards and quality of life.
It is so far the best cluster in International City and of course well maintained. Wide options for dine in cuisine are readily available and all of them giving free home delivery till late in the night so no problem at all regarding food. Free parking is available everywhere for everyone. Except entrance and exit of I.C. during peaks hours are crowded other than this traffic is very less compare to other vicinities of Dubai. Small parks/jogging tracks are there for fitness conscious people along with well equipped GYMs against payment. Ventilation system of corridors are not that much efficient but somehow manageable. In short it is very good choice of living against the money you pay there. And most importantly, all prominent locations like Dubai mall, MOE, Marina, Sharjah etc are just half an hour drive away from I.C
I love staying in this place even though the rent is getting high still I choose to stay rather moving out. The money I am paying here compensate with the service they offer. We felt safe here, our bldg has own access card given to each tenant which controlled strangers to pass in. The most I love in this place the area is huge there is a garden a small park which everyone can enjoy sitting, kids can run and play. Stress free to find a car parking we still have more spare slots for our guest car. We felt VIP in this area imagine where in the world you will find if you needed a tomatoes or onions they will deliver it on your door I mean if you need a bread worth 1 dhs. A delivery guy will deliver it to your door without hesitation. Dubai is a place where I can called my second home.

You will come across many agents who will try and sell CBD in International City as if you are moving into Paris. But it is not. I lived there for two months when my family came in a three bedroom furnished apartment. The agent guaranteed that it will be cleaned to the core before I move in. We couldn’t tell the difference so we had to hire the cleaning and do it ourselves. In just two months, there was bathroom leakage, door knobs coming off, tiles breaking and cabinet doors and a lot more. There two instances when the chiller stopped working over the weekend and this is mid-July we are talking about. That apartment needs a complete revamp.
I moved in here in 2007 March since then I am quite comfortable with almost everything in my building from apartment to building, to security, to neighbours, you name it... Even traffic is bearable except for peak timings like morning & evening certain hours.

On Thursday, October 28; we discussed the targeted audiance I decided I would make my targeted audiance: People looking for an affordable place to live therefore, I had to think about a more suitable content.
http://blog.catmedia.com/designing-for-a-target-audience
TA R G E T E D AUDIANCE A target audience is a specific group of people to whom a product, service, or brand is marketed in a variety of ways. knowing your target audience is essential to delivering an appropriate message or solution. Designing for a target audience, instead of designing blindly, results in a more effective design. Understanding the target audience allows a designer to create a product in the client’s language. Speaking in the client’s language demonstrates the designer is in sync with the client organization’s message and brand. In the case of an existing brand, the client’s customer is already familiar with the overall look and message of the brand, and it is necessary that the graphics meld into the existing visual and auditory messages.
In order to plan for a design, the designer starts by understanding the audience to whom the product is being marketed—the client’s customers. This understanding occurs through a target audience assessment. Typically, a designer begins by asking a series of questions to narrow down the audience, following up with questions focusing on the actual product and design. Understanding the process in which a designer uses a target audience assessment could offer a new perspective on how you market your own products to customers, clients, passengers, or patients. A target market assessment helps shape a highly customized design, saves time on the design process, and helps to ensure the design product speaks in the language of the clients’ customers. Without an understanding of the target audience it would be like reading a book with no context.
As I am targeting People who are looking for a place to live in; I researched what are some things people should consider before moving: Site 1 Crime rate Cost of living Schools Weather Public transportation and commute time Amenities and community services The cost of housing The vibe of the city and its people Activities, Events, and Night Life City reviews

The colors are taken from my icons from project 1: What we are seeing more of with flat design and color though is the matching of tone and saturation. When it comes to color, flat design schemes often trend as super-saturated and bright, more retro or monotone. Bright color is often a characteristic associated with flat design because it creates a distinct feel. Bright colors typically work well against both light and dark backgrounds, creating contrast and engaging users. It is the most popular color trend out there in relation to flat design.

According to my instructor, there are a couple of types of grids, and as a designer we should choose one and design our layour according to it through our the design of the book. I have picked column design as I am used to design on it, and I find it more flexible than the other types. I then used Lorem Ipsum and design few layouts and see how would few of my booklet›s layout would look like. I picked the colors from the icons I have previously used in my icons.
*
This is a good layout, and the color pallete are good as well, as this look vibranet and playful. However, try playing more with the layout and be free with how you use your space as it looks very much like an annual report which you do not want. next time use real content.
I have looked into different layouts. I mostly looked for layouts that are very playful and are not restricted. The layouts have overlapping texts and images. The images are not in one shape but several. Everything is located in a different position but in a way that makes the eyes look for connections. These layouts have inspired me to create different layouts with overlapping texts and images. Also to use my text in a brave way and out of my comfort zone. I already knew what I was going to do that is why I only looked for a few number of inspration.
In my previous layout I used these settings, but as I was editing on the layout I found out that the cutters of the columns are almost excactly the same size with the space between them, which made it very hard for me to figure out where to write and where should I start my text and where to end it and therefore I have edited the cutter of the columns and also reduced the margins.
I also figured out that the margins make it a lot easier to know where to put a text; and also because it can give me space inside the page to put as much as I like without feeling like I am stuck in a cage. I think I would change the 10 columns to 12 or 6 so I can have more freedom in my text; using 2 or 3 or 4 columns freely.
I was still not %100 sure with I want to write and how to write my content excactly. The first picture shows an intial try of the content page which header I did like; therefore, and following what the instructor told me, I went out of my confort zone and created the 2nd page making the word ÂŤcontentÂť escaping the page and filling the entire page. I kept on using overlapping with the text and therefore decided to make my

designing booklet
I tried writing my content before even thinking of my catogaries. I wrote first of all the page numbers (the blue) and the title overlapping on the page number. However, I did not think it was a good idea. I then changed the pages numbers into the number of catogary; simpler and makes more sense. I wrote in the begining 9 catogaries but then descovered I do not need 9.
I used a red rectangle to measure the spacing between each catogary. I used this all over the content page. I actually used this method in different pages in my booklet.
Because I did not need 9 catogries, I had to rethink my catogaries; which I then counted to only 7. I stuggled with how should I place the word (Content) as I can only get 8 or 9 or 19 catogaries; until I finally figured it out on the spread above.
For my category titles, I have used what it seems like shadows to make the image more playful. For the images, I used duo-tone, and then I placed the title in a big font. I tried adding introduction to each category too.
*
The way you made the text and background contrast with each other is interesting, using colors and duo tone in a very good way. I also like the idea you made changes on each different category title, it explains the concept of how diverse International City is. However, think more about the colors you would be choosing and place them with a reason.
Afterwards, I figured that my plan is not working for me, so I looked at inspirations from the internet, and was really influenced by huge letters with smaller text, and by numbers that are placed on I used a red rectangle to measure the spacing between each catogary. I used this all over the content page. I actually used this method in different pages in my booklet.
ngle number with a unique color can pop up the entire page without ruining the design and style of the layout.
I started by a placing a small number and title, mostly because this was my comfort zone, which I have been avoiding in the booklet; so I made my title bigger and in two colors contrasting each other; also adding the content of this category and unifying all the elements by adding an image representing the category on the page besides it. It was my aim to make it as playful, different, fun and happy as I could. On the next screenshots I showed the different colors I picked depending on how they contrast and show on each other.
Above you can see that I tried yellow on red, which did not work as yellow is not showing, so I tried other colors and noticed some show more than others.
The first line I have picked colors in a random ordere, but then I went back and colored in a specific order 1 red (the only red because it is the introduction), 2 orange, 3 yellow, 4 blue-green < and then the same colors,.
the introduction comes after the content page, and I just compared the colors (which looked somewhat similiar), so I left the way it is to show countinuity

I started by playing with my old map and placing words on it and also my icons from Project I; I then decided I want to make a map for the enire Warsan because my map looked very pale and boring (Also because I wanted to add more street names). therefore, I took a screenshot of two maps with all the area covered
*
The second layout is indeed better. The map is not functional and do not serve what people need; they need to know important streets and areas surrounding yours (add street names and locations). As for the empty space on the left page, you may try putting numbers on the map and then write how many minutes does it take from place 1 to 2; which can give a sense of how small or big the city is. I do not think you should do an A4 map because your area is already small and it would be better to keep it on only a spread.
I figured I have not looked at inspirations of maps, and therefore I looked into few maps that are interesting and somewhat similiar to my booklet layout,
this has a similar colors scheme to mine. I like the placement of street names and the way icons and extra elements are added.
What I really like about this is the way the locations were added, the way the numbers are bolder and the text is lighter
Again, the icons are giving this map a really interesting feel; making me wonder if I should my icons on map. not only that but this one has the location names on the map itself not the side like the previous ones.
This has the most interesting idea of placing the icons; these icons are also kind of similiar to my icons.
I eventually did decide that I want to add my icons on my map but would change them a little. I edited my icons in a way where the shaoes are going out of the circular background which I believe created more interesting icons. I also designed an extra icon for one more category.
This is the map I designed (Left), it was very plain so I added icons on the right side. I used very bright colors from my color scheme. I also added street name in two different fonts trying different options.
*
This is a very good map; however the the icons look like they are speaking bubbles so try changing the little arrow coming out of them to a more triangle shape,
This is my end result of the map. I added many elements and added the key as well. I only did some changes on the arrow coming out of the icons.
*
It seems good however keep in mind that the pages will bend so you need to be care
For the page of International City, I first of all decided I would write the title in big font covering the top of the page (top-left), and then I placed it on the side (bottom-left),but worried that it may not show when binding; therefore, I placed it simply on the top along with the infogrpahics on bottom; however, I ended up making it simpler and removing the infographics as I will mention them again later in the booklet.

residential
For the layout of the clusters Ithought of placing pictures with the cluster name on side; I thought of writing a brief introduction about each cluster on the side with a picture of each cluster; However, it looked very structured and like an annual report; so I made changes.
This is how I made it look like in the end, I placed the text and pictures randomly along with the text on top. I also decided I will add quotes from the reviews above; because some were really worthy of mentioning.
*
This does look more interesting, it is very playful, and random which goes well with the rest of your layout. The duo-tone pictures may not seem like the best idea, try leaving the pictures as they are. Also, for the clusters name, why are some of them perfectly inside the picture and some are going out? Either you leave them perfectly in, or place it a little out; but when you do that, have a reason, like placing them perfectly in the middle.
The clusters are a major part of International City I figured it is better to have its own page to interduce the clusters. I placed it the way I placed the rest of titles (or somewhat looking the same).
I was worried how the layout would look like with images, but I really like how the overlay red text is overlapping on the images
I have changed the layout many times and the above picture shows how I changed a layout to another; which was for many reasons. Either because I do not have enough information or my pictures are on landscape or portrait.

transport
I didn’t have much information about transportation, so I tried as much as I can to fill in at least two spreads. I began with writing about transporting in the city and outside the city, which seemed good at first; however, they both had almost the same information. So, I made another plan, and that is to write about the RTA buses in one spread along with a map to show the bus stops around the city. I also added a page of an image on bicycles on one spread. I also changed the text; in the beginning it was overlapping and them I changed it to not overlap. I then thought it would be great if I added an overview (which is where I will add my transportation icon)
*
The overlapping of text is interesting. However, The image of the man driving seems different and not related; maybe edit it on photoshop.

resturants
For these spreads, I wanted to have names and photos of restaurants and coffee shops. I wrote down a name of a restaurant and placed in different ways to see how it would look in the end (as a layout). I measured the spacing between each “restaurant by placing a black rectangle between them and then deleting them to reveal an equally spaced I decided I will only write basic information about each, but I thought the icons looked big so I removed the circle surrounding it and it made it look simpler.
I then realized I have no time to take pictures of each coffee shop and restaurant I wrote about! I wanted to go and take images first but it was already too late. I already had images of restaurants so I took the images I already had and put them all together. I had one image of a coffee shop so I added that as well. As for previous layout; it was all about images and I figured it would not work for me because I do not have that much photos; so I took an idea from a guide book the instructor showed us and looked for a site that creates QR codes that are linked to these restaurants Zomato pages https://www.the-qrcode-generator.com

shopping
The first page was one of the first pages I have designed with the thought that I will keep all title pages with images overlapping with text but it a struggle to keep every title the same as the red title sometimes does not show. Moreover, I tried making the content pages similar to how I started my International city overview page, I kept overlapping and wrapping what is important.
*
Keep titles looking the same because you want constancy between all your pages, and try placing the text somewhere else that on top of the icons (location and time). The qoute looks like it is part of the content, make it more distingushe Distinguished by maybe placing it further. You have good icons why did you not use them? use them.
I eventually changed almost everything. I added my icon like what the instructor said, I changed how the icons looked to make text appear better I also added a small overview because I did not have much information. The quote was place on the bottom of the page.
I designed the stores page in a way where it is extremely crowded which was inspired by how dragon mart and International city are actually. I had photos of the stores all over the page in no specific order. I tried writing the title behind everything and on top going out of the paper which I have done in previous pages.
*
This page looks very croweded which is good because this how the area you are talk about is. However, change the color of the title or make the colors lighter.
After receiving a critique I made the design much simpler, by adding some overview, and a drop shadow on the title. It looked much better. But then I changed again to make it similar to the page after (Mall services) and I guess it looked good because it still overlapped like previous pages
I have added this spread because I really liked this picture so much that I wanted to have her picture in the guide; I believe it is worth it to have a whole spread for her because of how nice she was to me. I tried adding a quote by her first but I did not find a suitable location to place it on, but eventually deleted the quote because I feared it would not show after printing. Also because I thought it would be great idea to put pictures like this all over the booklet (because I have a number of good photos that I have no place to put them in)
I thought the category “Shopping” only having Dragon mart in it is not the best idea. I decided that I would have “groceries”. I had no information but the reviews; so I simply added a quote down a photo.

recreation
I did not kow what to call this section first, I kept entertainment until the instructor told me to call “recreation which is more suitable. I began with placing the map and marking where the sport and play grounds are located around International City. I have aligned them exactly to make it look like how it is on the map actually.
*
this is a good idea, but why is the title different that any other title on your booklet? make it similar to another title, and it is kind of big, make it smalled and occupying a smaller space to give breathing space.
I struggled with my content because I did not know what will I be adding. I took a few images to add. The main problem was that the “recreation catogary is very short, maybe 2 pages only, and I wanted more than that. So I tried adding images for more pages, and adding qoutes.
Eventually I descovered I site that talks about gyms and salons in International City, which had important information, like the contact number and timings. I have added these two pages to this catogaries. I also designed a new icon to go with the theme of the booklet
*
This was a last minute plan. I have discussed the matter with my instructor, I was told not to add pages if I do not need them but I wanted to add more because I want my final to be a full guid to anyone who wants to live in International City.

more info
I started this page not knowing what to call it? Warsan, around the city, or what else? I started with only adding my icons and will think of what to call it or wither I would add more or not. I had struggles with how to place the icon with the text (should I overlap it? or should I scale the icons up? or put the text next to it?) I have played with different layouts when it came to this page.
I then figured it would be better to keep them simpler and play around with text to make it intract with the images and qoutes. I wrote random text and placed random images just to see how they looked like, and I actually really like it. However, I had a couple of problems. One is that I do not have that much information, and second is that I do not have time to go and take images of “Dubai pet and Bird shop
After thinking about it, I thought naming it “around Warsan” would be good. I, again played with the placement of my text and icon to create the page on bottom right. I liked how the icon is intracting with the text. I did not like how the text on the icons of “location” and “time” were overlapping, so I decided I would cut a small part of the icons to give the text a breathing space.
*
how come the title look different from the titles before? make them look similiar to a title you had before. The icons on the 2nd page look way better. Also, keep in mind spacing, everything should be the same space.
In the end, I have changed the name to “more info because I realized I needed to write my references somewhere (and should write it on my content page, so that is what I did. I added 2 more places, I also thought it would be better to add a negative part about the city, which was the smell. In the end, I also added notes to make the person holding this guid intract with it, also because it is for people who wants to live there so it is good to write notes.
For my index page design I was inspired by the page of a city guid; because it is the last page I wanted it to be different and that is by making the text white and background navy (unlike the previous pages)

bonus
For the extra 5 marks, I have decided I would create post cards and stamps using my images, as well as my icons.
Inspiration I have never designed postcard nor stamps so this would be interesting. I have looked at some example, but already had in mind what I wanted to do. I had many images that would look good on the post cards, and I already have my color scheme to add character and fun to them. The example of the the stamps are so graphic, which reminded me of my icons. The one on bottom looks very similiar to what I think I will be doing.

printing
On previous classes we were required to do a printed version of the booklet. I printed in university and was critiqued.
*
The colors are too dark, and sometimes text cannot be read; make sure you print on better paper that the colors wont be as dark. also keep in mind that the cover page should be thicker that than rest, think of papers carefully and where to ptint as well.
my collaegues for a printing press; I was advised to go to one of the following: Toil & Tinker, Dubaiprint, and Printout. However, each had a disadvantage from my point of view. Either it was far, or they do not have the type of papers I wanted, or that printing would take more than 2 days (and I do not have time). I looked in google for different printing presses that print booklets and found Veesham. I called them and they were extremely helpful and nice, and when I got to them, I was treated very special, something I would not see in other places. I gave my files, and picked the papers I wanted for my booklet’s cover and pages, as well as the stamps. I was given many options but I picked textured type of paper. I then sat with a designer to show how to create bleeds. I did my printing and received my final exactly the day after.

final thoughts
Overall, this project was very interesting. It opened my eyes to new things and ideas I really enjoyed designing my guid, mostly because of the spontounious color scheme I have picked. Luckily, I was not restricting myself from doing anything, I was free to do whatever I like (overlapping text or scaling up the text out of the page) which are things that I never have done before as it was off my comfort zone. I have went and was introduced to places that I did not know exsisted in the UAE or just near my area. However, in this project we had to write information; this was the only thing I had problems with. Most of the information I got were from researching online and paraphrasing them. Overall; I give this project a 9/10 :)
The end.
