INTRODUCTION Majid is a pan-Arab comic book anthology & children’s magazine published in Abu Dhabi media company. It’s website is launched in 2009 & the TV channel is launched in 2015. Some of Majid’s programs: Qadha?, Kashta, Shu alray?, & Truth & Dare. Set design is the creation of the article, as well as film or television scenery. Competition programs are children’s favorite type of tv shows. This project will focus on every detail that enhance children’s capabilities and mental abilities with a lot of fun. My job is to create the perfect studio set design that is comfortable for employees and at the same time attracts children attention. Designing for children is always different, we must study every detail that works on catching the kids attention. The scenic designer works with the director and other designers to establish an overall visual concept for the production and design the stage environment. They are responsible for developing a complete set of design drawings. This book includes a full study of Majid TV set design studios program. All the studios needs and FF&E tables are included in this book, and of course at the end you will see some sketches, mood boards, and design scenario.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION The project is about Majid TV studios, In this project I am gonna work on two programs set designs which have different content than each others. The first studio is bigger than the second, it will be for a competition program, the idea of it is a race between four teams, ( the art team, the cooking team, the music team, and the sewing team), the race will be for 30 minutes and the winner team will be chosen by the judgement Commission. The second studio will be for an educational program, in details it will teach arts, & latest technologies and inventions. I will insert many futuristic technics to support the idea of the program and to attract the children because this generation need to be surrounded by technology.
VISION
MISSION
I envision reaching evey kid and keeping a positive effect in their minds, I also aspire to build independent, smart, & ambitious personality in each child. Majid channel will raise a generation full of energy & knowledge.
My mission is to design a studio that has high flexibility & match the future. I will be using futuristic methods that help to reduce the use of decorations & paintings etc.. My mission also is to help the employees work in a comfortable environment that fits their needs.

b. Observations Thinking of design that helps the crew and the director do their best, by designing a well arranged space that serve the crew and the presenter, and arrange the space to make everybody comfortable to do their best on the TV show. My goal also is to create a set design that is new to the eye, attractive, and comfortable to the eye. Also, to make children happy while watching and help them gain the biggest amount of information.

Question 3: -What type of style do you expect to have? Usually kids’ programs follow the same style type which depends on shapes, numbers, bright colors. i expect renovation, inserting new color scheme with some futuristic touches. kids nowadays are different than the old generation, they need to keep pace with development.
Question 4: -How many cameras does a competition program need? Also depends on the program type, usually if the program was big enough, it need from 7 to 10 cameras or even more.

Question 3: -What is the most important thing to focus on when designing a set for the TV studios? You have to focus on the flexibilty of the set, it must have high rate. Also, you have to consider the area for workers and employees, it should be comfortable & big enough to help them do there best.
Question 4: -Is it a problem to have columns in the plan? It depends where you will place the studios, and you can edit and work on that, so it is not a really big problem.
Question 5: -Any advice for me as a graduate? I advice you to visit a TV to look for more information and see how is everything in real life, that will help you to imagine better and work perfectly.

DESIGNER II Jad Ezzi – Art Director – works at MBC studios
32
Question 1: -What are the materials used for set design? The base should be steal structure, the flooring is usually acrylic, and they use MDF boards for many uses, because it is a light materials that is also cheap.
Question 2: Usually do the set designers care about the ceiling design or it does not appear in the cameras? Basically the ceiling is usually a black level with vector lights, so most probably it just contains lighting.
Question 3: -Is the designer responsible about the lighting? Or it is the lighting technician job? The designer care about the color palate, so he choose the lighting type, the color tone, and the aesthitic arrangement, but the technician job is to know when to turn on and off the lights, and where to place them.
Question 4: -What is the standard area needed for the director and the employees to work in? It depends on the crew and the program type and size, mostly the director and the crew sit in a separate room and they are connected to the DOPs and lighting department, so there is no fixed dimensions.

Question 4: -What is the standard area needed for the director and the employees to work in? In MBC group there is always a control room for the crew, they don’t work on site to avoid crowd, and for many other reasons.
35
CONCLUSION 36
They advised me to use cheap and light materials because set design doesn’t require durable furniture, And they said that the ceiling is usually open or black flat level, to avoid paying a lot and because it doesn’t appear in the cameras. They also said that the lighting technician is responsible about the lighting but the designer should choose the type and the color palate. Also, they said that mostly the crew and the director sit in monitor rooms so no need for a space for them in the site.

Case Study I
The concept of this design is a playing park, the park is full of games. The color scheme used support the physical exercise message, which is the main message for such projects like that. The materials used are natural materials that strength the concept of the studio and the Emirati culture. This program depends on the participation of the children at the studios.
42
“Eftah ya simsim” is a well-known kids’ educational program produced by joint programs foundation, the Arabian Gulf. The program was reproduced by Abu Dhabi in 2013.
The color scheme is super powerfull, kids really enjoy such colors like those, and when it comes to psycology, it is the perfect pallete that enhance the children abilities and give them enough power. It also support the message of this design which is physical exercise, ( the message that is used for such designs and projects like that).
The program includes educational shows, songs, acting scenes, and storytelling, with participation of number of children in the studio as you see in the picture.
The Flooring is made from concrete bricks and grass in some areas to give a real park atmosphere. and let the kids and the viewers live in the mood. The design concept of the studio is a playing park, consists of real games like swings, slides, and many others. The concept behind that was to reflect the Emirati culture, since it is an old program that was shooted at the gulf.
Palm trees & sand mountain were added to let us feel the atmosphere of the park and to strengthen the Emirati cultural touch.
Episode Format: -Educational shows -Songs -Acting scenes -Storytelling
43
Case Study II
Mister maker is a British children’s television program launched in 2007. And airs on BBC One and BBC Two The series comprises a mixture of animation and real time content. Created by Phill Gallagher And he is the starring too.
44
The sofa and the table look like they are made from mixed colors of clay, because it is a DIY program so that strength the concept, also the sofa look glossy to give the effect of clay.
The studio’s design is super colorful to attract the kids immediately. If we focus on the details of the studio, we will see that the designer used furniture that look like it is handmade, and the reason behind that is to make the studio more artistic, give the feeling of handmade works, and let the kids imaging they are in a box of art to help them think more about DIY and arts.
The windows in the studio are sketched by hand, or maybe they are painted to look like a sketch to give an artistic touch, also the curtains are made from folded paper for the same reason. Now to the most interesting part which is the back drawers that have trancparent cases filled with art materials such as, colorful paper stars, balls, small toys, and so many, which gave the place an amazing artistic touch.
Also, the bird’s tower base looks like toilet paper carton and the top is a random food carton to encourage kids to recycle and save material.
Episode Format:
The designer also did not forget the program’s presenter style! He dressed him circles patterned waistcoat with a blue shirt to give him a childish look.
- Creative Idea - The Shapes Dance - Minute Make It Time - The Colour Kids - Frame-It! - Random Picture - Another Creative Idea. - Time To Go. - Mister Maker exits the studio. - Black Bar within 6 minutes 20 seconds
45
Case Study III
“Bachon Ki Sham”
Set design for kids evening show in India, the show has multiple segments i.e news, story telling, art and craft, science and tech etc. The idea was to create a home environment to engage the viewers.
46
They used bright colors that take the children attention immediately, which are primary colors ( Red, Blue, &, yellow) these colors always success by attracting the kids make them interested to watch and explore, they give them energy, optimisim, happiness, power, and motivation). This TV program has many sections for many activities, but at the same time they are connected together in a nice arragement, which made the design stronger and supper attractive.
The flooring used is parquet, which support the home concept, and create a warm feeling. The designer here didn’t care about the ceiling design, it’s a flat black level full of vector lights, and it does not appear in the scenes.
The camera placement idea is also creative as cameras were not placed with in a set. The cameras were placed behind wooden panels given around the set and only camera lens are supposed shoot from one of the grid of the wooden panel.
As you see in the minbar section, the wallpaper reflect the islamic style and patterns, and at the same time, it is connected and match the rest of the studio.

COMPARISON SCHEDULE
Studying those cases let me know and understand many points such as:
- The color scheme is so important to attract the children. - The design of an educational program may be different than the entertainment one or the DIY programs, so understanding the goal of the program is so important. - The materials used in the short time set designs are not really durable, such as MDF, carton, gypsum board, light wood, laminar flooring. it
The the
Lighting is so reason behind
important in set design, because having a clear and nice image.

1.3.2. MESSAGES
Physical exercise message This message is most associated with kids areas or designs, If the goal of the design is making them energetic and active, then it should be the message of the design.
These programs need to attract the kids, enhance their abilities, and let them react with the show. The design is the main reason that will help by that. So my message is to make them active, powerful, and also help them receive the information easily.
Curiosity message Curiosity is associated with the release and flow of dopamine, serotonin, and opioids in the brain. These chemicals are part of the reward pathway, generating the sense of pleasure and satisfaction we feel when our curiosity is satisfied. To put it another way, we are addicted to wonder. Curious brains are better at learning. Curiosity can even leak over and help brains learn incidental and boring things that are encountered around the same time as the stuff they are actually curious about. This message is really important to take the kids attention and make them curious to focus with the program and receive enough information from the show. And also after the show, they will be curious to explore more and search for the imformation by themselves.
55
CONCEPT 1.3.3
56
57
58
curious My concept is the famous character “fuduli” from majid magazine, which means curious. The idea behind choosing it is to make the children and viewers curious, because when curiosity dominate our minds we start thinking, searching, and exploring everything that attract us. Exploring and searching increase the child knowledge and that’s what I aim for. It is not easy to make the kids concentrate and be attracted to watch the program, that’s why the design should follow the curiosity idea and message to take their attention.
About Fuduli: *This character was inserted in every magazine number in hidden places, and the children were supposed to search for him.*

COLOR SCHEME
60
PROGRAM 1
BLUE
color is connected to calmness and serenity. It creates a feeling of relaxation and radiated peace. This stimulating color is associated with excitement. RED Red attracts all the attention and distorts the effect of other colors. Red can also represent power, a relationship that can be found all over modern-day society.
is a very energy inducing color that keeps YELLOW one motivated and optimistic. It gives us the motivation and impression to work.
PROGRAM 2
BLUE
color is connected to calmness and serenity. It creates a feeling of relaxation and radiated peace. is that color that evokes empathy and happiness in PINK a child’s mind, color that radiates feminine energy, sweetness, and happiness.

1.3.4. ELEMENTS OF OF DESIGN
62
LINE
SHAPES
Curved lines psychology:
Dynamic & Round:
Curved or circular lines provide a sense of relief, softness and balance. They can be pleasing on the eyes and easy to view. Also, they are the perfect line type that support the physical exercise message.
Round & dynamic shapes may give the feeling of magic, mystery, eternity, softness, universe.
SCENTSCAPE
LIGHTING
LAVENDER
VECTOR LIGHTS
Usually in the studios, the presenters, guests, and the employees feel so stressed, so they need to be calmed and relaxed. Lavender scent is the best choice.
The goal here is to light the set with enough drama to make it an impressive setting, but never so much that it steals the show.

ACOUSTIC WALL PANELS To avoid any sound issues and echo noise, we have to use acoustic panels in the TV programs studios. The acoustic environment in a tv program studio has to be studied very well because it will affect not only the crew, but also the viewrs of the programs. It actually differs from a program to another, and from studio to another.
Figure 5: Acoustic wall panels
The acoustic insullation has to be under 25 dp not more than that.
The panels are wall mounted, hanged on a stud, each two panels are hanged together to one stud. The panels has a slit on the top and the bottom. And the stud is fixed to the wall by a screw.
Acoustic sound system panels should be added to the interior, either the ceiling or the walls, the quantity of the panels depends on the height of the studio and the materials used. Figure 6: contruction details
