After choosing a part of our area in Rhinoceros, it’s imported to Ecotect as a 3DS file. Then second step was to modify the drawing with “ merge coincidence triengles” tool in order to make it lighter and work on it. When it was ready the weather file of Barcelone is set, and started analysing shodows.

Solar Analysis: To calculate solar radiation on a grid , a grid is arranged by the tool “Auto-Fit Grid to Object�. Then solar access analysis is calculated with the incident solar radiation arrangements and choosing the analysis grid option.

A part of the area is selected to calculate the solar radiation on the buildings. (Due to the other analyses, buildings with high energy consumption are selected to apply solar radiation analysis. Therefore to keep the energy in balance by checking the possibilities of producing solar energy. )
For calculating the solar radiation on the facades of the buildings, surfaces are selected and checked the normals. In some cases normals are reversed. After corrections surfaces are selected again and modified to increase subdivisions according to building heights. Then ther are calculated by solar access analysis. ( After calculation high radiation spots will be considered to produce solar energy.)
In the previous image the differences in accuracy of the radiation calculation between on large surfaces and on subdivided surfaces can be seen.

Wind Analyses For wind analysis calculation a grid is fitted by the tool 3D air flow. Then in “analysis grid” part “CFD cell blockages” is performed with choosing the option “covered in Z”. Afterwards Winair4 (CFD) performed.
