What is Urban? What makes Urban Urban? What is neighborhood? Considering current contemporary contexts and discourses can the term be re-interpreted? What is the relation between being in a particular place and the feeling of being in the hood? Starting with these questions, the studio focused on how people interact with spaces and how effective and responsive design solutions can be developed. The studio puts emphasis on the designer’s responsibility to understand the reciprocal relationship between environments having architectural significance and contemporary programs. In the distinct and flourishing neighbourhood of Yeldeğirmeni, Rasimpaşa Volunteer House can be identified as an “urban hub” among many, where residents of the hood and urbanites of Istanbul comes together. This terms project was to re-interpret and re-design the volunteer urban hub of Rasimpaşa.The actual program of the volunteer house is re- interpreted. During the design process listening to actual users, residents & volunteers aims to improve the design process.Taking the concept of “volunteering” into consideration, the design subject focuses on the needs and expectations not of the property owner ,client or the employer, but of the real user, who is willing to experience, use or even abuse the place in question. Thus a thorough interview with the use volunteers, visitors and the neighborhood residents will provide a road map for the design process. The interviews is used as a scenario / guide throughout the design process and was in correspondence with the design proposals.

This was a case study, it was about to examine how people interact with the neighbourhood. Each of us studied a specific site that becomes an urban node in Kadikoy. The conception of space as a becoming process rather than a being as such is reminiscent of Henri Lefebvre's understanding of the production of space. Considering space no longer as a thing in itself, a container in which things are located or practices take place, Lefebvre shifts the emphasis from space solely as an object to the spatiality of social life and opens his spatial thought to the unsettling effects of rethinking the everyday and its instabilities; and thus one of the major buttresses of his spatial thought is the becoming quality of space.

This studio focused on exploring the possibilities of defining public interior on the shores of Bosphorus where water and city meet. Once being sociable spaces which contain facilities of leisure and commerce, the piers along the Bosphorus are now silent and solitary spaces; they only serve as stations for scheduled city boats. More to this, restaurants and cafes populate around, hence exploit the open spaces surrounding the pier buildings. Considering the city as a place where every citizen has equal rights and opportunities to use and enjoy it, these piers await to be social surroundings for communication and exchange while being part of a network of public spaces and pathways. Our site, sit Kandilli Pier has great potential in that respect. We were expected to conceive the pier and its surrounding environment as a public interior that will generate activities encouraging: - a collective sense of belonging - social cohesion - emotionally involved participation It will not only be a landing stage for boats, it will become a community asset; it will be a social equaliser like a beach, a community space and more... a place where the city breaths and opens to the sea. A dynamic public experience, expe the spatial cohesion of the whole shore line and the contact of users with the sea will be our major issue.

“The identity that emerges from the user-space relationship is open to constant change. since both structure and body are in transformation, the relationship between structure and user is re-established over and over again. Accordingly, each interior is a character -that transforms and/or being transformed continously- rather than a frozen image. therefore the design of a housing interior must focus on user/persona itself specifically, instead of a common user profile. each interior represents its owner’s individual characteristics with/by color / pattern / material / object’s integrity/entireness of a housing interior / user-space interaction / accessibility / multifunctionality/flexibility / opnenness to communication / harmony with the physical environment / interior-exterior border

This module engages with three institutional sites that still serve their original function while manifesting properties of a “heterotopia”. We will first articulated our experiential response to the site and explored how existing architectural dynamics contributed to our experience. Then, we developed a macro-analysis of the site so as to arrive at a narration of its functioning as the embodiment of a power structure – i.e. a utopia/dystopia. Later, we developed a design strategy that reveals either the essence of your institution as “close a point to its ideal original o state as possible” (heterotopia’s analytic and dystopian momentum) OR the potential of our institution by opening it up “to challenges that could humanize and perfect it through reinvention” (heterotopia’s synthetic and utopian momentum). Finally, we gave concrete form to a micro-intervention by means of specific interior processes and elements at a scale appropriate for the operation and legibility of your strategy. “Our heterotopia” can be transient or permanent. We also could retained the original architectural program or reinvent it according to contemporary or future-oriented conditions of living and building. Nevertheless, the material and technical specificities of our design should be worked out accordingly.

The main focus of this studio was the diversity in BeyoÄ&#x;lu embracing its heritage and debating on its future. As BeyoÄ&#x;lu has been the main commercial and recreation center of Istanbul for more than 100 years, it still houses various spaces in numerous functions, forms and styles particular to this area. Although both its social life and buildings face dispersion today, it would never lose its architectural and public character. We would like to take on-going debates on public space and BeyoÄ&#x;lu to a further level and initiate a discussion on its urban interiors. The open spaces of the site will enable assessment of the urban environment and integration with the daily life. The project p to be developed was expected to be help regeneration and appropriation of these spaces. To design a place for leisure time -that provides social cohesion and does not require money exchange- that would be transformed into a public auction space at certain times; was the main goal of the studio.

It was planned to build a dwelling complex for and inclusive community, consisting of container units in a Mediterranean city. Each unit was designed by different students in accourdance with a unique design concept and different aspects and activities that users need.In addition to being related to each other, each unit is designed to be specific to user, reflecting the user’s story and identifying the user’s personal space. Designing internal building element systems considering performance requirements related to constructional design and resources.Integration of building element systems with each other and with other sub systems (structural, mechanical, electrical etc) with holistic perspective. mechanica

My character is a free-spirited woman and make a living by making terrariums in her home. The kitchen also works as a production area. Inspiring by the linear elements in the terrarium,I wanted to use linear elements of it for the railing of the staircase. At the same time,I tried to maintain this language at some points in the interior.

08 This project is a project we do within the scope of Furniture Design course. In the initial phase of the project, two-person groups were formed and we were given some pictures chosen by the course executives. After analyzing and abstracting these paintings, we were asked to produce furniture based on the painting.

In this project, furniture for Anton Chekhov's Uncle Vanya's play, which will be played by students at Kadir Has University, was made in groups within the scope of Furniture Design course. For the stage, different furniture was designed for each room without breaking the concept of rural to urban settlement. The aim was to produce furniture that would give this feeling without noticing that it was a theater play. Our group was asked to design rugs for the living room to be hung on the wall. This room had the effect of a country house. While making our rugs, we chose the motifs together with the actors and sewed the motifs ourselves.

The objective of this project we’ve been working on lies on the artistic freedom and our artistic choices. And that is because the only rule contrary to this freedom is the 1m^3 rule. Therefore the objective is to create a body of components that fit each other perfectly and a convenient whole. The initial and most important goal of our group as we were working on this final project was to create and come up with an acceptable artwork in today’s world,a project to be taken seriously as it is to be kept on display in the Santral Istanbul Campus of Bilgi University for a quite long time. And in order o to achive this goal,we started our project by designing an elegant opportune starting components and lead on to modifying it to achieve variety and maintain excitement in our project. Therefore,we managed to have the perfect base for our project to our and your liking.Building up with this base components and the variations of it,we got to point where we examined the ways of connecting these various base components we had in our hands. Along the process,we came up with the idea of adding extra connection area to our base components. As a result, we established smooth transitions and relations between the various base components. And it was important for us to create c a color composition.

In this project we were asked to design a capsule house in Istanbul Bilgi University,Santral Campus. In the light of my analysis,I saw that, there was a perfect opportunity to use sunlight and wind and I decided to use this elements as a main idea. I used the modules that changing their shapes by the wind and colors by sunrise. On the facades modules changing color according to the angle of sunrise.Colors are getting combined with each other and creating different colors, so this creates different atmospheres inside, accourding to the hours. The colors colo were set according to usage time in the capsule. At the sleeping hour, sthe ideal color is changed into atmosphere.I tried to adjust according to the time of the sun rays.I tried to increase the integrity with the nature by using the mirrors in the vaults. I positioned the capsule the closest and the quietest place in nature on th enclosed campus.

12 The aim of this project was to push the boundaries of the material (plywood) and produce a shelter using the bending-weaving technique.
