Fairway Gives Back
Robin Reid NMLS# 141285 Phone: 501-712-3580 or 501-529-2110 14810 Cantrell Road Suite 160 Little Rock, AR 72223 Gary Lee Collins NMLS #1611643 Phone: 469-878-6249 14810 Cantrell Road Suite 160 Little Rock, AR 72223
Beyond providing quality housing services to its clients, Fairway is also wholly committed to charity and community support. Fairway achieves its philanthropic aims through two nonprofit organizations, Fairway Cares and the American Warrior Initiative. For over 20 years, Fairway Cares has given Fairway’s 7,000 employees institutional support during times of crisis. Through employee referrals, Fairway Cares sends comforting care packages or financial assistance. Fairway Cares not only sends gifts to Fairway workers but also their family members, friends and neighbors who need help during a critical illness, the loss of a loved one or recuperation from physical trauma. Fairway underwrites all administrative costs of the Fairway Cares nonprofit, and all other operating costs and donations are financed by fundraisers and employee payroll deductions. One such fundraiser was a partnership with Aaliyah’s Army, a group supporting Aaliyah Delgado, a girl with neuroblastoma whose mother is a Fairway Group real estate agent. The two organizations sponsored a charity golf tournament which raised over $22,000 for the family, allowing Aaliyah’s parents to make her healing their full-time occupation. Aaliyah had her last chemo treatment in November, 2018, and her cancer is now fully in remission. Fairway Cares continues to take an interest in the long-term care of the Delgado family. Beyond financial support and fundraising, Fairway Cares also sends care packages to those in need, containing items like blankets, lotions, books and handmade ornaments. Despite these things being small, they have a significant value. As one care package recipient puts it, “Life is fragile, and time is of great importance. You’d be surprised how little things like these come distinctly into focus, and it’s amazing to work with a company that recognizes that.” The packages not only meet certain physical needs but also emotional ones — that Fairway sees them as more than just employees and that there are people across the country who want the recipients to feel cared for. Fairway’s other charitable arm is the American Warrior Initiative (AWI). Formed in 2012 by a former Army captain and a Fairway branch manager, AWI’s motto is “Find the Need and Fill the Need.” For AWI and Fairway, this means educating, encouraging and inspiring Americans to give back to past and present military members, and the AWI has given back in spades. 100 percent of its donations go to veterans and active-duty service members, spearheading over 100 initiatives to provide mortgage-free housing, business grants and home upgrades. In 2018, the AWI donated $885,000 and paired 21 service dogs with veterans across 32 cities. The specific need filled by Fairway is providing excellent housing services to its military clients, who relocate 10 times more often than civilian families. In pursuit of this goal, AWI hosts American Warrior Real Estate Professional Boot Camps, which have educated over 25,000 real estate agents and mortgage professionals on the particular needs of military members to help reduce moving-related stress, costs, frustrations and instability. Additionally, Fairway reaches out to the spouses of service members, offering real-estate agent training, as their certificates can follow their transfers around the states. While the needs of active and former military service members are large and multifaceted, Fairway is devoted to providing whatever help it can muster, believing that none of us can do everything, but everyone can do something.

Need help with some Christmas gifts? I can help. I’m Lisa Fischer, and my superpower is shopping. With the help of the folks at the Good Earth Garden Center, I have chosen two things I would love to see under my tree. First, are these leather bags. Every gal needs a roomy leather bag. They are soft, attractive and durable. They can be used for an overnight trip or a trip to the gym (the one you’re going to join in January.) And these bags have purpose. They are from a group that supports Rwandan orphans. One reason I love shopping with Julie and Gregg Curtis at the Good Earth Garden is that they GIVE BACK. Besides going to Africa themselves, they find retailers who support charities around the globe. The second, are these quilts. They are colorful as they are unique. I want every sofa and every bed in my home to have a quilt for those less-than-warm winter days. Grab one for a gift, but I bet you’ll go back to buy one for yourself. – Lisa Fischer

Breakfast rec ipe s
By Dustin Jayroe
The only thing better than breakfast at your favorite eatery is one made at home, from scratch. This month, we have you covered with some delicious recipes, all centered around the first (and best) meal of the day. Check out the same cinnamon roll recipe that publisher Heather Baker made in her cooking class, followed by Baker's own famous sausage balls. Top it off with some homemade french toast, courtesy of yours truly, Have yourself a merry little Christmas.
Cinnamon Rolls By Wendy Schay, Culinary Instructor at UA-Pulaski Technical College Basic Cinnamon Roll Glaze 4 oz. (1 stick) butter 16 oz. (4 cups) powdered sugar 2 tsp. vanilla 6 TB. hot water Making the dough:
Cinnamon Roll Dough 8 oz. (1 cup) milk, scalded (heated just to a boil, allowed to cool) 8 oz. (1 cup) water, warm 0.5 oz. (1 TB.) instant yeast 4.2 oz. (2/3 cup) sugar 5.4 oz. (11 TB.) butter, room temperature 0.5 oz. (1 TB. salt 2 eggs 32 – 43 oz. (7 ½ - 8 cups) all purpose flour Cinnamon sugar filling 8 oz. (2 sticks) butter, melted 12.4 oz. (1 ½ cup) sugar 1 oz. (4 TB.) Cinnamon Cream Cheese Icing 8 oz. (2 sticks) butter, room temperature 4 oz. cream cheese, room temp 1 tsp. vanilla 2 oz. milk 3 cups powdered sugar ½ tsp. salt
1. Heat milk just to a boil on a stovetop or in a microwave. Set aside to cool to around 110 degrees F. *If it’s too hot it will scramble the eggs and kill the yeast. 2. In a bowl, combine cooled milk, water, sugar, room temperature butter, salt and eggs. 3. Gradually add flour. Once added, knead for 5-8 minutes on low or by hand 8-10 minutes, until your dough springs back when pressed with a finger. 4. Place dough into a lightly sprayed bowl covered with a tea towel or plastic wrap for about 1 hour at room temperature. Prepare your filling: 5. Melt 8 oz. of butter. 6. Combine the cinnamon and sugar together. 7. Prep pans by spreading a small amount of the melted butter on the bottom and sides of the pans. 8. Lightly flour the surface. Divide dough into 2 halves. Roll each half into a 15” x 9” rectangle. Pick it up often to make sure it isn’t sticking.
42
9. Onto each half, spread half of the melted butter evenly then sprinkle with half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Combine the cinnamon sugar and butter using your hands, spread to the edge of the dough. 10. Roll the dough up from the long end. Seal the seam by pinching it closed. 11. Cut dough into 10-12 1.5” slices for regular sized cinnamon rolls, or 2” slices for jumbo size. 12. Place cut side up in buttered pan close together but not touching. Cover and let proof until doubled about 45 minutes. 13. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes, until golden brown or until the internal temperature reaches 190’F on an instant-read thermometer. Allow to cool 5-10 minutes before icing. Prepare your icing: 14. Cream cheese icing: combine all ingredients in a mixer bowl, mix on low, or by hand until smooth. 15. Basic glaze: combine the softened butter, powdered sugar and vanilla until it forms a thick paste. Add hot water 1 TB. at a time until desired consistency. The rolls will remain fresh for up to two days covered well at room temp, or up to one week in the refrigerator, covered and wrapped well. *Cream cheese iced rolls must be stored in the refrigerator.
Sausage Balls By Heather Baker, Publisher, AY Media Group 3 cups Bisquick 1 lb. ground sausage, uncooked ½ lb. grated cheddar cheese 1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. 2. Combine all ingredients in a large bowl, kneading gently until evenly mixed. 3. Pinch and remove teaspoon-sized portions from the dough and form into balls. 4. Place the balls on a pan and bake for about 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown. Prepared dough may be kept frozen until ready to cook.
French Toast By Dustin Jayroe, Editor, AY Magazine 1 loaf pre-sliced, thick, French or Italian bread (two days old) 6 eggs 1 TB. brown sugar 1 tsp. cinnamon ½ tsp. salt 1 tsp. vanilla extract (real) 1 cup milk (Whole or reduced fat) ½ cup heavy cream 1 TB. butter 1. Sit the butter to the side. Whisk all other ingredients together in a large mixing bowl until the eggs are completely broken down and everything is well combined. 2. Lay bread slices face down, side-by-side in a dish or pan. 3. Pour liquid mixture over the top of the bread evenly. Let sit for 10 minutes, flipping bread slices over halfway through. 4. Heat a pan over medium heat. 5. Drop the butter into the pan and wait for it to melt completely. 6. Lay soaked bread slices face down in the pan. 7. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until browned. Serve with maple syrup, fresh fruit or dusted with powdered sugar (or all three).

goals,” Wilkes says. “Many people simply don’t know what is meant by Oculofacial Plastic Surgery. My job is to give them an understanding of the various surgical and non-surgical choices we can offer. People don’t realize how much these procedures can really change their lives! And now more men are interested in these services. I recently heard from a guy who had an eyelid lift and was amazed by how much better he could see while deer hunting - and his wife says he looks younger, too! I hear these comments from my patients almost every day. It’s so gratifying to be an Oculofacial Plastic Surgeon and see what a positive impact these procedures and fillers have on my patients’ lives.”
One of McFarland’s gems is Dr. Byron Wilkes, who is among the most highly-skilled Oculoplastic Surgeons in Arkansas, often being one of the only surgeons in the state who can perform certain specialized procedures. Board Certified and Fellowship trained, Dr. Wilkes provides eyelid lifts, removal of under eye bags, forehead lifts, brow lifts and a variety of fillers which give his patients a younger, brighter 17200 Chenal Parkway appearance. “I love being able to help people understand all the options available to reach their rejuvenation

The Parkhill Clinic for Women brings more than 50 years of experience in service to the betterment of women’s health. With locations in Fayetteville and Bentonville, the clinic has established itself as a name that Northwest Arkansas women can trust. In August, the already acclaimed health care organization instilled a new vision for the future, enabling an expansion of available services for women that they boast is “unlike anything [else] in Northwest Arkansas.” Parkhill believes that comprehensive care for women should go beyond just obstetrics and gynecology, and thus adopted primary care, nutritional support, counseling and aesthetics, all under one roof.
Dr. Paige Partridge has been a member of the Parkhill team since 2000. She graduated from Hendrix College with a degree in biology and received her doctorate of medicine from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. She specializes in obstetrics and is also trained in minimally invasive surgery techniques, laparoscopic hysterectomy, robotic surgery, treatment for pelvic organ prolapse and incontinence.

Just five years ago, Shelly York was working in the hotel industry in Louisiana, a far cry from performing modern miracles at a hearing center. “[I] had reached a plateau in my career,” York says. “I began seeking a change and found an opportunity with the local Miracle-Ear Center. Through a recommendation of an acquaintance in the industry, I felt like it would be a good fit for me. Little did I know that helping people with their hearing would become a source of such joy and take me where I am today.” York now is a franchise owner of two different Miracle-Ear affiliates; one in Little Rock and the other in Morrilton. Each and every day, MiracleEar provides the gift of sound to Arkansans with hearing impairments, providing them with one of the five senses that those without such disabilities often take for granted. “I have always said that my favorite part of my profession has been the joy that comes from helping my patients reconnect with their family and friends through the ease of communication that comes with better hearing,” York says. “However, now after five years of practice, my favorite part has evolved. I now find that my favorite part is exceeding the expectations of our patients at every point of contact that leads to better hearing. Miracle-Ear not only has the best hearing aids, but we also have the most thorough evaluation, the best trained (and Board Certified in Hearing Instrument Sciences) providers, the most advanced and natural-sounding technology. … And the best music in the lobby.” York is board certified in hearing instrument sciences from the National Board for Certification in Hearing Instrument Sciences (NBC-HIS), a designation that she is supremely proud of, for it shows her dedication to excel beyond just the basic requirements for assisting those with hearing impairments. “Some of the most experienced hearing health professionals in the world share the distinguishing BC-HIS — the symbol of certification through NBC-HIS,” York says. “It’s an assurance that you’re getting the perfect fit for your hearing health care needs.”
