Moneys have had a long journey to reach us this evening coming all the way from Portsmouth, so we offer their players, officials and supporters a warm welcome, and wish them a safe journey home after tonight’s match. The previous time these two sides met at The Meadow, it was a 2-2 draw in January 2018, with both our goals coming from Sonny French. Moneyfields progressed to this stage by beating Camberley Town of the Combined Counties League Premier Division 4-2 at home. Two games, two wins, all smiles for the Ducks so far this season

Saturday, but started with a 2-1away defeat to Cinderford Town. As for the Ducks, it’s been a case of a game the team were probably expected to win, and one they probably weren’t – and they won both. The victory against Long Crendon in the previous round was just the tonic after such a long period without football. And Saturday’s performance against Corby Town was a perfect blend of tactics and performance.

Stadium safety and Covid-19 W

e’re delighted to have you return to The Meadow, but to ensure a safe experience for all, please observe the following Covid-19 protocols in place. 1. Turnstiles will be open for ground admittance from 1pm on a Saturday and 6.30pm on a weekday evening. 2. Upon arrival at The Meadow, all supporters will be subject to a temperature check by a Covid official. Any person with a temperature reading of higher than 37.8 degrees celsius will not be allowed to enter the ground. This will include anyone else who has travelled with the person displaying a high temperature. 3. Name and contact information will be collected at the turnstile to comply with government track and trace requirements. Season ticket holders will be able to supply ticket number. All other spectators will need to provide name and contact number. This information will be stored for a minimum of 21 days in line with Government Recreational Team Sport Framework and collected / processed in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation. 4. It is requested that supporters bring the correct money for entrance where possible.

7. Please follow all signs displayed when moving around the ground. 8. The Meadow End will only be accessible via the Ryan Moran Stand. 9. Please follow signs when using the toilets and food and beverage facilities. 10. Please do not return any balls to the playing area that enter spectator areas. 11. Any form of racial abuse, or language used to incite or provoke others is a criminal offence under the Football Offences Act 1991. • NO glasses or bottles are permitted outside the clubhouse. • DO NOT throw any items onto the pitch.

21st Century Ducks update

1st Century Ducks (21CD), the Aylesbury United Supporters Trust, has entered its 21st season in existence. We would like to thank current members for their continued support. 21CD is a major shareholder in the club and a member of the trust committee sits on the club’s board, so the trust very much has a voice. Membership is made up of supporters from around the world. We are always looking for more members: • To ensure the supporter’s voice is heard at board level to influence the direction of the club. • To provide a financial lifeline for the club through membership fees, other fundraising opportunities and to help keep 21CD functioning. • To decide how 21CD membership funds will be allocated to support the club. • To join the committee and help make decisions for the trust.

• To provide a strong evidence base to show our local support and need to #BringTheDucksHome • To bring ideas and initiatives for fundraising, raising the club profile and more. • To help support the club through volunteering e.g. stewarding or hosting a quiz night. Members with a standing order don’t need to do anything unless your address details have changed. 21CD have been running a 50:50 draw for a number of years, and sees 50% of the proceeds go to the club. The scheme costs £5 a month and sees a monthly prize draw of £100 to the winner. We are also on the look out for a new Treasurer. Brian Metcalfe has done amazing job in this role for a number of years

but feels it’s time to hand over to someone else. It’s a maximum of one hour a month commitment. The 21CD committee would like to thank Brian for his involvement in 21CD over the years, thank you Brian! There is currently a vote in place to help us decide which merchandise to source for supporters to purchase. Please have your say on the forum, where you can also find out the merchandise we currently have available. Unfortunately last season’s sponsored walk to Berkhamsted, which had been organised to take place in April had to be postponed for obvious reasons. We are trying to find another date to do this but unfortunately the fixture list for this season has not been as kind with local away fixtures. We will however definitely be doing a sponsored walk in aid of charity partner The Ducklings Trust at some point soon, so please keep an eye out for more details.

About Aylesbury United

ylesbury United were founded in 1897 when three local sides: Night School FC, The Printing Works and Aylesbury Town decided to merge. The club, affectionately known as ‘the Ducks’ due to the famous Aylesbury breed, have experienced some incredible highs over their long 112-year history but now battle for existence without a home ground to call their own. In the early years United played in local leagues before joining the Spartan League in 1908 where they remained until the Second World War. 1951 saw the Ducks gain their first taste of national publicity as they became the only club from the Delphian League ever to reach the First Round of the FA Cup, eventually losing to Third Division side Watford. United turned semiprofessional in 1976 and joined the Southern League, a move which got the ball rolling on the club’s most

successful period. A number of events followed which were to help: In 1983 the club appointed Trevor Gould as manager, and then a year later a young local lad called Cliff Hercules made his debut, unaware that he was to become the most successful player in the club’s history. ‘Hercy’ was – and still is – an Aylesbury icon, and some 20-years later he finally hung up his boots having smashed the club records with 669 appearances and scoring 301 goals. Promotion to the Southern Premier was soon achieved and shortly afterwards the Ducks moved to their new Buckingham Road stadium. This gave the town a new impetus and Gould’s talented squad secured the Southern League Championship in 1987-88 and gained promotion to the GM Vauxhall Conference. United then hit the headlines again, becoming the only non-league side ever to take on the full England

team, as more than 6000 packed into Buckingham Road to see the Ducks take on the Three Lions. Unfortunately United’s brush with the nonleague elite only lasted one season, after which the club were relegated to the Isthmian League. During the period between 1985 and 1992, Aylesbury boasted the best FA Cup record of any side outside the Football League, reaching at least the First Round Proper every season. The highlights being a victory over then Division Four leaders Southend United, a narrow extra time replay defeat against Northampton Town, and being shown live across Europe against Walsall. Ironically though it wasn’t Gould, the club’s most successful manager, who led the Ducks to their greatest FA Cup achievement, it was his successor Steve Ketteridge in 1994-95. Once again the club became media celebrities as the ‘Duck Walk’ goal celebration

was shown around the world, as Aylesbury went on to reach the Third Round where they lost to Premiership side Queen’s Park Rangers at Loftus Road. Ketteridge delivered the Isthmian League Cup title to Aylesbury, but it was to be the beginning of a rollercoaster ride for the club. After almost going out of business, the Ducks were pipped to the Isthmian League title by Sutton United a year later, despite heading the table for long periods. The following season saw United back in administration and fighting for survival both on and off the pitch. Despite defeating Football League side Reading in the Berks and Bucks Senior Cup, for the second time in four seasons, the club was relegated to Division One for the first time in their History. In October 2000, the legendary Hercules took time out from his duties as the club’s Community Development Officer to manage the Ducks, and in his brief spell in charge he secured promotion back to the Isthmian Premier

Division and extended the club’s proud FA Cup record with a First Round trip to Port Vale. 2002-03 saw Aylesbury returned to national prominence twice. First the club was privileged to play a major part in an England get together as the Buckingham Road facilities were used by Sven Goran Eriksson for a media conference and by the squad for a training session. Second the club made their first ever appearance in the FA Trophy semi-finals, where the Ducks were beaten by eventual winners Burscough. For various reasons the club then began to cycle through a string of managers at an average of two a season – namely Chris Boothe, Kevin Wilson, Paul Curtis, Danny Nicholls, Jon Franklin, Tony Thompson and Mark Eaton. But nothing was to match the low point of summer 2006. Former chairman Bill Carroll failed in his plans to convert the Buckingham Road pitch to a 3G artificial surface, what he described as his ‘last ditch’ idea for

About Aylesbury United creating a viable football club, when the Southern League and FA baulked at his ideas. Carroll decided to cut ties with the club he had been involved with since 1997, and popular local businessman Graham Read took over the club. But in a cruel twist Aylesbury were left homeless after their lease expired. Since that time Aylesbury have been forced to play their ‘home’ matches some 20 miles out of Aylesbury whilst the committee work hard keeping the club alive. The campaign to ‘Bring the Ducks Home’ has generated plenty of publicity, but so far, sadly, nothing concrete in terms of a new home for the club. On the pitch the club continued to do remarkably well, going close to the playoff positions in the Midlands Division for the next three seasons but a new challenge arose last summer when the previous manager defected clubs, taking almost the entire playing

squad with him. This led to another tumultuous season which saw Martin Stone initially appointed as manager, but due to personal reasons he had to renege on his appointment less than two weeks before the first game of the season. His assistant, Byron Walton, briefly stepped into the mantle and did a sterling job in assembling a competitive team in such a short space of time. He moved on and former United defender Tony Joyce became the club’s new permanent manager. Unfortunately Joyce was unable to prevent the club’s slide – which had seen them amass just one league win by October – and the club were relegated to the Spartan South Midlands League. However, Joyce built a new and strong squad which finished sixth in the league in 2010-11. Season 2011-12 saw further progression in the league with the Ducks eventually finishing fourth after a strong run

of results at the tail end of the season. There was disappointment, however in the cups with the team being out of all cup competitions by mid November. The 2012-13 season saw the club competing for the title, being in the top four for the entire season. Finally finishing second to Dunstable Town, gaining promotion to the Southern League courtesy of the FA’s restructuring of the feeder leagues and the additional promotional places that created. The season was capped by securing the Spartan League Premier Division Cup, beating Hadley 3-2 after extra time. The Ducks’ first season back in the Southern league saw them achieve a creditable 12th place finish in a strong division. Other highlights from the season was a much better FA Cup run and notable victories against Southern Premier League opponents Hemel Hempstead Town, Chesham United and

Burnham in the Berks and Bucks Senior Cup and The Red Insure Cup. The 2014-15 season saw the club finish in 13th place but made the final of the Berks and Bucks Senior Cup for the first time in 10 years, losing 4-0 to Maidenhead United from the Vanarama Conference South. After a disappointing start to the 2015-16 season, Tony Joyce tendered his resignation after six years at the club and was replaced by Glyn Creaser who had been coach under Tony. In Glynâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s first full season in charge, he led the club to the semifinal of the Southern League Cup, before losing at Premier Division St Ives. He also guided the team to 13th position in the Central Division. After two seasons ground sharing at the ASM Stadium in Thame, a decision was made to return to The Meadow, the home of Chesham United for the 2017-18 season. After a disappointing start to the league campaign, manager Glyn Creaser was relieved of his

responsibilities following a 6-1 home defeat against Cambridge City in December 2017, with the team lying second from the bottom of the table. His assistant Ben Williams was appointed caretaker manager in his place, before being appointed in a full time capacity in January. Ben steadied the ship successfully, integrating a number of new young players and developing a great team spirit, which saw the Ducks rise to 13th in the league, winning nine of their last 13 matches. The 2019-20 season began in promising fashion, with the Ducks unbeaten in their first nine league games, and winning both FA Cup and FA Trophy ties. Despite a slight dip in form, the Ducks remained in the play-offs before the season was curtailed early and voided due to the global Covid-19 pandemic. But with the majority of the squad that finished the season signing on again and a few shrewd acquisitions, hopes are high for a successful season ahead.

Todayâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s opposition

oneyfields FC began its current incarnation back in 1987. Having reached the upper age group in the Portsmouth juniors, a group of players decided to continue playing as Portsmouth Civil Service reserves. Gradually most of the players moved up to the first team and by 1991 the side had risen from the Portsmouth League to Hampshire League Division One on the back of three successive promotions. The league success was matched in cup competitions with Portsmouth Senior Cup wins in 1991 and 1992, and Hampshire Intermediate Cup victories in 1992 and 1993. After several seasons in the Hampshire League, it became apparent the club would have to move away from their home at Copnor Road if they were to progress. After scouring the city, the club agreed a lease on the old Moneyfields Sports Ground in Copnor, and in 1994 moved to its current ground. The Division One years were particularly successful and under the

management of George Wain and Mickey Gee, where Moneys never finished lower than sixth and clinched the 199697 league championship by 15 points. Success on the field was matched by extensive ground developments off it, thanks to a National Lottery Sports Fund grant. New changing rooms, offices and a floodlit all-weather pitch were constructed as part of the scheme to bring the facilities up to Wessex League standard. With the requisite developments in place, the 1997-98 campaign saw a tense battle with Blackfield and Langley to see who would claim a spot in the Jewson Wessex league. Although Blackfield just pipped them, Moneyfieldsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; better facilities meant it was they who claimed promotion. The first season in the Wessex league saw the club surprise many by finishing sixth. The next couple of seasons saw the club post respectable top 10 finishes, but, after finishing a disappointing 16th in 2000-01, Wain and Gee decided to step down after

Under the managerial partnerships of Calvin Hore and Terry Arnold/ Paul Gregory, and Craig Stafford and Miles Rutherford, the club established itself in the middle third of the table as well as embarking on a series of runs in the FA Cup and FA Vase. The management line-up was boosted in 2004-05 by the arrival of Bobby De St Croix and Alan Smith from Havant and Waterlooville, who led them to mid-table for two seasons and reached the final of the Portsmouth Senior Cup in 2005-06, losing 4-3 to Gosport Borough, and reaching the third round of the FA Vase in 200607 against AFC Totton. 2007-08 saw the sudden departure mid-season of Craig Stafford, leading a season to finishing seventh in the league, finishing as runners-up in the league cup to Wimborne Town, and reaching the Second Round Qualifying in the FA Cup against Team Bath. 2008-09 saw Moneyfields’ best

start to the season, leading the remaining 21 teams for a short period of time and seeing Connor Bailey scoring Moneys’ 100th goal of the season. The season ended positively with both the first team and reserves finishing third in the table. 2009-10 saw Moneyfields’ worst season at home, with only five home wins all season leaving the club in 12th place. After five seasons Bobby St Croix retired as manager, and was replaced by Graeme Gee, who had also been a very loyal player. 2010-11 saw them finish seventh in the Wessex Premier, and 2011-12 season saw them finish fourth in the Wessex Premier. The club won the Portsmouth Senior Cup in 2013. A year later they were losing finalists. 2014-15 season saw them finish fourth in the Wessex Premier League and reaching second round FA Vase. 2015-16 saw manager Miles Rutherford resign after 12 years, with Dave Carter from Horndean taking over in October

then finish eighth in the Wessex Premier League and seeing Moneyfields reaching the fourth of the FA Vase. 2016-17 Moneyfields finished top of the table in Wessex Premier for three days, before the FA took three points away for playing an ineligible player, handing the title to Portland United. Moneys were still promoted to Evo-Stik Southern league East Division 2017-18 season, where they finished 10th, and entered the FA Trophy for the first in their history. In 2018-19 Moneys finished fourth in the Division One South with 71 points, and despite clinching a play-off place, it was made impossible for the club to gain promotion due to the technicalities involved in there being insufficient space in the league above for all of the play-off winners. When the 2019-20 season was abandoned, Moneys were placed 18th, and also reached the Portsmouth Senior Cup quarter-final and the Hampshire Senior Cup semi-final.

Meet the opposition 1. Jake Hallett The former Salisbury shot-stopper joined the club at the beginning of the 2019-20 season. He played 22 times in his debut season, which was put on hold midway through due to injury. Norwich City and Southampton are two of his previous clubs having progressed through the youth ranks. 2. Tyler Giddings Right-back came through the youth system and has amassed 227 appearances for the club, scoring twice. Last season was dogged by injury but he is looking to stay fit and start the season firing on all cylinders. 3. Conor Bailey Another graduate of the Moneyfields youth system. The formidable left-back has scored 40 goals for the club including a stunning half-way line strike in the FA Cup against Worthing. Conor has made 412 first team appearances and is looking to add many more in future.

4. Jake Raine Hardworking central midfielder is another to progress through the youth system. Has been a constant in the side for several seasons now having played 303 games, netting 19 times. 5.Curtis DaCosta Central defender played youth football at Portsmouth before coming through the ranks at Swindon Town and spending time on loan at Swindon Supermarine in 2014. A mainstay in Dave Carterâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s side since joining the club but was reduced to just one first team appearance last season due to injury. Has played 134 games scoring six goals. 6. Sam Pearce The club captain joined in 2017 from Gosport Borough. Sam has also played for Havant & Waterlooville, Salisbury, Bognor Regis Town and Farnborough. The central defender has not only played at the back but is adept to playing as a centre forward, as well as filling in between the

sticks if needed. He also played in the 2014 FA Trophy final at Wembley for Gosport Borough. Sam has played 82 games in three seasons, scoring 21 times. 7. Joe Briggs The wide midfielder has played 107 games scoring 36 goals for the club since he joined from Winchester City. Has played a big part for the club in recent years, being one of several players in the current squad to enjoy Portsmouth Senior Cup success. Joe had been playing at Petersfield Town, enjoying two Wessex League promotions before joining Winchester City. 8. Marley Ridge A former loanee at Moneyfields rejoined the club this summer from Hartley Wintney. The former Havant & Waterlooville academy graduate was playing National League football two seasons ago. Played 38 games netting six goals during his previous spell with the club.

9. Ryan Pennery Goalscorer Pennery, rejoined the club from Gosport Borough last season and had a good first half of the season before an ACL injury, from which he’s still recovering. Came through the youth the set up at the club, before playing for Baffins Milton Rovers and Gosport Borough. The centre forward has 29 goals in 84 appearances. 10. Steve Hutchings ‘Hutch’ is a powerhouse striker with a good eye for goal. The centre forward has scored 217 goal in 300 appearances. Has played in the Football League with AFC Bournemouth and in the National League South with Havant & Waterlooville before signing for Moneyfields in 2011. 11. George Barker The former Brighton & Hove Albion, Swindon Town and Barnet pro, joined the club in the summer from Gosport Borough. George had a played 22 pro games, while also enjoying loan

spells with Newport County and Tranmere Rovers. Spent a few seasons with Havant & Waterlooville between two spells with Gosport Borough. 12. Ed Sanders A new signing for the 2020-21 season. The former Stoke City and Sheffield Wednesday man joined the club after spells with Gosport Borough, Bognor Regis Town and Whitehawk. The defender put in some solid performance during pre-season, mixed with his experience at a higher level, was the perfect fit for Dave Carter’s side. 13. Max Flintoft Max signed for the club midway through last season from Wessex League side US Portsmouth, going on to make eight appearances while deputising for the injured Jake Hallett. The goalkeeper who is in the Navy had previously played for March Town and Spalding United. 15. Tom Dinsmore Midfielder Tom was

recently released by AFC Bournemouth after the end of his one-year pro contract. He had played two games previously for Moneyfields during a brief loan spell in the 2018-19 season. The technically gifted midfielder gives the side an extra edge in the middle of the park. 16. Danny Burroughs Another youngster in the Moneyfields side. Teenage midfielder Burroughs has played youth and reserve team football for the club before making his mark on the first team during the last campaign, scoring two goals for the side in 16 outings. 17. Alex Lafleur Left back signed during pre-season from Salisbury. The pacey and skilful wide man can also play as a winger, was previous at Gosport Borough and Wealdstone, where he made his first team debut aged just 17. 18. Rhys Lloyd The young midfielder who is still a teenager,

also played at youth and reserve level, before making the step up to first team football last season. Although yet to score for the first team, Lloyd has made 17 appearances for the side. 19. Lamin Jatta The speedy forward, joined the club at the start of last season from Fareham Town and has scored four goals in 23 games during his debut season at Moneyfields. Laminâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s brother is the Hamburg midfielder, Bakery Jatta. 20. Lewis Fennemore Experienced midfielder has been part of the Moneyfields set-up since 2014-15. The midfielder who can also play as a central defender, previously played for Fareham Town, Folland Sports, Sholing and was at Moneyfields between his spells with Fareham Town and Folland Sports. He has gone onto make 186 appearances, finding the net 19 times. 22. Kieran Roberts New summer signing joined the club with

plenty of potential and excitement having joined from Blackfield & Langley. The forward lists Wimborne Town, Weymouth, Hamworthy United and AFC Bournemouth as his former clubs, as well playing in the US for Radford University and Reading United. 23. Connor Hoare Connor has played 33 times scoring three goals since joining from Gosport Borough. Connor had previously played for Blackfield & Langley as well as Petersfield Town. Dave Carter, manager Dave has been manager since October 2015 and guided the club to promotion to the Southern Football League in his first full season in charge, as well as winning the Portsmouth Senior Cup with the club in 201819. Dave previously managed Wessex League side Horndean between 2008-2015. Gav Spurway, assistant manager

The newly appointed assistant manager as of the start of the 202021 season, had a long playing career in the Wessex League, playing for the likes of Blackfield & Langley, Fareham Town and Horndean. Originally joined Moneyfields as a player, before becoming playercoach last season. Brett Poate, playercoach Poate has played 93 times for Moneyfields scoring seven goals from defence, after joining from Gosport Borough. The former Havant & Waterlooville defender played a role in their FA Cup success of 200708. As a youngster he was on the books at Southampton. Louis Bell, coach Bell is a well-recognised face around the local area having coached and managed at some of the top local clubs. More recently Louis managed at Baffins Milton Rovers and had been coach at Gosport Borough before joining Moneyfields in summer 2020.
