Whatever happens this afternoon, the result will be settled today, as the game will go straight to penalties if it’s a draw at 90 minutes – which I’m sure all Ducks’ supporters will be anxious to avoid. The winner of today’s match will set up a home tie against either Sholing (who top the Southern League Division One South), or Lymington town (who are currently bottom).
We offer the players, officials, and fans of the Robins a warm welcome to The Meadow, and a safe journey back to Worcestershire tonight.

As well as the football challenge, one of the guys cycled the distance between the two clubs playing each round, during the week before that game and another of us ran the Manchester marathon in April. The Reverend AJ Jones went further, saying “the club should not only be a credit to the county, but to all England”. He drew on his experiences in Sunderland – one of the great centres of the game – where children played football in the streets and policemen were unable to stop them because they had the spirit of football within them. The resolution was carried with one in Itopposition.wasproposed
The motivation straightforward, wasthat “some really good football might be seen in Aylesbury if only the clubs would amalgamate”. Mr Kyle, who had proposed the idea to meeting chair Mr Elliston, had travelled around Bucks visiting Wycombe and Marlow “and it struck him that these smaller towns had stronger football teams” than Aylesbury. It appeared to him that “something might be done in Aylesbury to unite them as clubs, so that their football teams might be equal to those in other towns in Bucks”. “Certainly in the county town, and the really competent players they had there, they ought to have a team worthy of it,” he added, and “the united club would be a credit to

On 5 June 1897 representatives from three local clubs – Night School, the Printing Works and Aylesbury Town –gathered in the Rochester Room of the Bell Hotel in Aylesbury to discuss the merger of three local teams into one club.
The club played their first match in a “new dark green kit” against Bowes Park on 25 September that year.

On 28 May 1898, at the club’s first annual meeting, it was reported the first team had played 26, winning 14, and losing 12 – scoring 77 goals, and conceding 60. Mr Kyle, who was now the club’s chairman, was very pleased with the outcome. “The attempt to amalgamate the clubs in the town had been fully justified. If the same progress were to be made next season, he believed would be equal to any club in the county,” he said.
Membership of the club was set at two shillings and sixpence, two shillings for under 18s, and one shilling for boys under 12. Members of the Printing Works were exempt from the charge to begin with, as they already paid to be members of their institute which paid for their team. One

Aylesbury turned semiprofessional in 1976 and joined the Southern League, a move which got the ball rolling on the club’s most successful period. A number of events followed which were to help: In 1983 the club appointed Trevor Gould as manager, and then a year later a young local lad called Cliff Hercules made his debut, unaware that he was to become the most successful player in the club’s history. ‘Hercy’ was, and still is, an Aylesbury icon, and some 20-years later he finally hung up his boots having smashed the club records with 669 appearances and scoring 301 goals.

This led to another tumultuous season which saw Martin Stone initially appointed as manager, but due to personal reasons he had to renege on his appointment less than two weeks before the first game of the season. After a disappointing start to the league campaign, manager Glyn Creaser was relieved of his responsibilities following a 6-1 home defeat against Cambridge City in December 2017, with the team lying second from the bottom of the table. His assistant Ben Williams was appointed caretaker manager in his place, before being appointed in a full time capacity in January. Ben steadied the ship successfully, integrating a number of new young players and developing a great team spirit, which saw the Ducks rise to 13th in the league, winning nine of their last 13 matches.
The 2020-21 season suffered the same fate, abandoned after just two months. 2011-12 saw further progression in the league with the Ducks eventually finishing fourth after a strong run of results at the tail end of the season. There was disappointment, however in the cups with the team being out of all cup competitions by mid November.
The 2012-13 season saw the club competing for the title, being in the top four for the entire season. However, a club did exist in Evesham prior to the War, the “Town” reaching the FA Amateur Cup Final in 1923, losing 2-1 after extra time to London Caledonians at CrystalStartingPalace.inthe 1951-52 season, in the club’s first five years in the thethirdtheirrunners-upLeagueCombinationWorcestershiretheywereChampionstwiceandontwooccasions,lowestpositionbeinginthatfirstseason.In1956theylefttojoinBirminghamLeagueandfollowedthiswitha

but managed to turn things around and Evesham eventually finished mid-table with a creditable 50 points. The 2004-05 campaign saw Evesham take their place in the Southern League Division One West, with Busst in his first full season in charge with the experienced Paul West as his assistant. It turned out to be a season to remember for Evesham’s long-suffering fans with the Robins earning a place in the play-offs. A tense 2-1 victory against Ashford Town (Middlesex) paired Evesham with local rivals Bromsgrove Rovers in the play-off final. A crowd of over 800 squeezed into Common Road to witness Evesham romp to a 4-0 win and promotion to the Southern League Premier Division for the first time in their history. After a poor run of results, Busst left in February 2006 and West stepped up to take over. Despite a marked improvement, Evesham were relegated on the final day of the season, finishing just one point behind Northwood.

They also reached the quarter final of the FA Vase before losing to eventual finalists Guiseley. After being just outside the playoffs when the bad weather disrupted the season, a disastrous run of only two wins in the last 25 games saw them in freefall, before they finally made sure of staying in the division with a point at home to Bedford Town with three games left to play.
After five and a half years at the helm Manager Paul West and his brother and assistant manager Leon West called time on one of the most successful periods in the club’s history. Matt Clarke was appointed as the new manager at the end of November 2011 and joining him as his assistant was Rob Elmes together with UEFA B-qualified coach Kieran Jackson.Season 2011-12 was a disappointment with the club being relegated from the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division and after spending six years ground sharing at Worcester City the Robins

A mediocre start to the 2012-13 season saw Matt Clarke and Rob Elmes resign from their positions with Paul West returning to see the team through to the end of the season. West departed in early May 2013 and was replaced by former West Bromwich Albion and Sunderland midfielder Shaun Cunnington. The experienced Cunnington managed previously at Willenhall Town, Alvechurch and Halesowen Town. The squad was revamped with high hopes for a successful 2013-14 campaign. However, after a series of poor results Cunnington resigned his position at the end of October with former Bishops Cleeve manager Paul Collicutt taking over as the new permanent boss.
Season 2013-14 was a disappointing one for the Robins who finished 16th in the South & West Division. Season 2014-15 will be remembered as one of success and heartache for the club. The Robins enjoyed an excellent run in the FA Cup before bowing out to Conference South side Bromley in the Fourth Qualifying Round after beating higher graded Redditch United and Histon on the way. Following the FA Cup exit a remarkable run of form resulted in just one defeat in 28 league games and a second-place finish in the South & West Division behind champions Merthyr Town. 2010-11 was again a season of contrasting fortunes with the club in the drop zone at Christmas and staring relegation in the face. However, some shrewd signings saw the club enjoy a tremendous run of form and climb the table to finish in a respectable 12th spot.

In 2006-07, the club took a step in the right direction with former Wigan, Bradford and Port Vale defender West, again at the helm. Evesham lifted the Worcestershire Senior Cup for the first time, beating Stourbridge 2-1 in the final. The play-offs were also reached but unfortunately a late goal ensured Bromsgrove a narrow 1-0 win and eventual promotion.Season2007-08 turned out to be one of the most memorable in the club’s history. The club took Blue Square Premier Halifax Town to a replay in the Fourth Qualifying Round of the F.A. Cup before losing 2-1 at the Shay. In the Carlsberg Trophy, West’s side beat higher graded Bromsgrove Rovers and Corby Town on route to the Third Qualifying Round, before going out at Blue Square North Redditch United after a replay. However, it was Evesham’s league form that caught the imagination. Despite suffering three defeats in the opening six games. Evesham put together a remarkable run of results and stormed to the top of the British Gas Midlands Division. Only two more reversals followed in 34 league games and West’s side clinched the championship ahead of Leamington with a game to spare. A massive 91 points were bagged, and a staggering 22 clean sheets kept in 40 games with the experienced Mark Owen topping the clubs scoring charts with 33 goals, including two hat-tricks.

With mid-season form looking reasonable it was starting to look like being a mediocre season until United put together a fantastic late season run, winning nine out of the last 12 league games. The play-off semifinal had an air of déjà vu about it, with the scores between the Robins and Swindon Supermarine being all level after 120 minutes, it was another season of not to be as Supermarine who eventually won the play-offs pushing Evesham aside 5-4 on penalties. Making the playoffs for a third time in four years was no mean feat, and one that would afford Paul ‘Colly’ Collicutt another tilt at promotion in 2018-19.

to review the position of manager, sadly it was agreed that Paul Collicutt would be relieved of his duties. Next came the task of finding a replacement, very quickly it became obvious that there really was only one choice, that of a young manager called Carl Abbott. Carl had been managing Midland Football League Premier Division side Quorn, until the Robins opportunity came along and he said, “the chance to manage Evesham was an exciting opportunity that was one he could not pass up”. Prior to Quorn, Carl had been at the helm of Market Drayton Town along with two lengthy spells at both Wolverhampton Casuals and Hinckley AFC. The club enters the 2019-20 season with renewed optimism both on and off the park.
