Welcome
G
ood evening and welcome back to The Meadow slightly sooner than anticipated for this first round match in the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup against Newport Pagnell Town. There have been a few changes since we were last played at home. We wish the long-serving Ollie Stanbridge all the best, as he joins Kidlington after 195 matches for the Ducks in search of more regular game time. But as Ollie departs, we welcome Horatio Hirst back to the club following his release from Sheffield United. Cup matches can either be a distraction or as a catalyst to kick-start good form. Let’s hope this match will act as the latter for the Ducks. Aylesbury United FC 01296 487367 info@aylesburyunitedfc.co.uk @aylesburyutdfc @aylesburyunitedfc flic.kr/aylesburyunited

Newport Pagnell Town will also be looking to use this game to kick on. The Swans lost their UCL Premier Divison match against Cogenhoe United on Saturday, and like the Ducks have only won one league game this season. participation in the tournament since 2002 is a good omen, as they were the team beaten by the Ducks in our two most recent wins. Whoever comes out victorious tonight, we wish all players, officials and supporters a safe journey home.

About Aylesbury United
A
ylesbury United was founded in 1897 when three local sides, Night School FC, The Printing Works and Aylesbury Town, decided to merge. The club, nicknamed the Ducks, has experienced some incredible highs over its 112year history but are now without a home ground to call their own. United played in local leagues before joining the Spartan League in 1908 where it remained until the Second World War. Fame and the FA Cup Aylesbury turned semi-professional in 1976 and joined the Southern League, kicking off the club’s most successful period. In 1983 the club appointed Trevor Gould as manager, and a year later a local lad called Cliff Hercules made his debut, hanging up his boots some 20-years later smashing club records with 669 appearances and 301 goals. Promotion to the Southern Premier was

achieved and the Ducks moved to their new Buckingham Road stadium. Gould’s talented squad secured the Southern League Championship in 1987-88 and were promoted to the Vauxhall Conference. That year the Ducks became the only ever non-league side to take on the full England team, as more than 6,000 packed into Buckingham Road. Between 1985 and 1992, Aylesbury boasted the best FA Cup record of any side outside the Football League, reaching at least the first round proper every season. And in 1994-95 the club became famous for the ‘Duck Walk’ celebration as Aylesbury reached the third round, losing to Premier League Queen’s Park Rangers at Loftus Road. Ups and downs In 1998-99 the Ducks were pipped to the Isthmian League title by Sutton United and the following season were fighting for survival on and off the pitch.
Despite defeating Football League side Reading in the Berks and Bucks Senior Cup, for the second time in four seasons, the club was relegated to Division One for the first time in their history. But nothing was to match the low point of summer 2006. Former chairman Bill Carroll cut ties with the club he had been involved with since 1997 having failed to convert the Buckingham Road playing surface to a third generation artificial surface. Local businessman Graham Read took over the club, but Aylesbury was left homeless after its lease expired. Since then the Ducks have been forced to play their ‘home’ matches out of Aylesbury while the committee work hard to keep the club alive. The campaign to ‘Bring the Ducks Home’ generated plenty of publicity, but sadly nothing concrete in terms of a new home for the club. In the interim, the teams plays home matches at neighbour Chesham United.

two decades: Relegated in 1985-86, promoted back to the Premier Division in 1991-92, and then relegated down again in 1996-97.
Sports Achiever of the Year 2017 awards Newport Pagnell Town Football Club’s first team received the Team of the Year award.
In 1964 they entered the North Bucks League and won Division 3 in their first season. Soon after that they won the second and first division titles in consecutive years. In the 1971-72 season the Wanderers joined the South Midlands League, playing at the Youth Club in Wolverton Road. In 1972 the club moved to the new facilities at the Willen Road Sports Ground and changed its name to Newport Pagnell Town.
The club won the Division 1 Championship again in 2001-02 and has been in the Premier Division ever since. In both 2009-10 and a year later in 2010-11 the club won the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy.
A further award in 2017 was a Berks & Bucks FA award to club chairman Steve Handley for his contribution to grassroots football.
The yo-yo years In the 1973-74 season Newport Pagnell Town joined Division 2 of the United Counties League. Two years later they were promoted to Division 1. The club’s best FA Cup achievement was reaching the Second Qualifying Round in 2008-09. Recent results In the 2016-17 season the club reached the last eight of the FA Vase before losing to a strong South Shields side, the eventual winners of the competition in front of more than 3000 spectators on Tyneside. In recognition of this achievement the club was presented with a Town Award by Newport Pagnell Town Council, and in the Milton Keynes
In 2017-18 the club finished third in the UCL Premier Division, missing out on promotion by just three points. A good season for the youth section included winning the Berks & Bucks Under-15 County Cup, and a very encouraging season for the club’s first girls team, the Under-12 Swans. From small beginnings in 1963, Newport Pagnell Town has become the highest placed nonleague club in the Milton Keynes area, and is a FA Charter Standard Community Club with a youth section of around 30 teams in addition to its senior first and reserve sides, and a successful Sunday team.
