[ ARCHITECTS WEEK BENCH ]
(collaborators: Michael Zizik, Derek Magee, Gavin Newman, Brad Rohman, Chris Berends & Ellen Hailey) Tu lan e S c hool of Arc hi tec ture fur n i tu re p ro to ty p e d es ig n c o mp eti tio n
The bench was designed to be a prototype that could be quickly maunfactured and easily mass produced. Instead of chasing wild forms and trying to re-invent a time tested standard, this proposal sought to distill the essence of the sitting appartus for multiple people to two elements the structure (the welded frame) and the surface (the glue laminated wooden strips.)
[ SUKKAH ]
(collaborators Garrett Jacobs, Michael Greene & Nels Erickson)
The sukkah is a temporary structure built for the Jewish harvest holiday Sukkot. Jewish law specifies that a sukkah must have at least three walls and the roof covering can only be made of something that once grew out of the earth but is since uprooted prior to usage.
