These concrete blocks create frames by rotating, or create some cantilever by using different directÄąon.These variations create textures, reflect the inside. This wall inspired me a lot in my other project and i belÄąeve that it will inspire me in my future project as well.

home-work-recreation around macunköy station/housing

let’s meet at the square!

the project asks for an alternative urban development of the vacant lots. the juxtaposition of industry and housing in the area, need for recreational facilities and the presence of a potential transportation hub situated roughly in the middle, present the challenge of uniting these once separated functions into an habitable environment. the project is worked wıth groups of four people. also, the project consist of different functions whıch are - housing - home-office - community center - commercial areas - sport facilities - car parking - kindergarten - offices

site plan

from an urban view, our site can be visioned as a center of the neighborhood due to the existence of the metro station and the potentials of the urban void that surrounds the station. to transform the metro to function more than just being a transportation tool is the key to achieve that vision. enhancing the surrounding area and well relating it with the station will create a much needed urban square extending to a neighborhood courtyard. a square where people would meet, a square where people would socialize. and a courtyard where people e would enjoy fresh air in. therefore we eliminated all traces of vehicles and combined the car parking with the metro station in a redesigned building. from the square, we provided easiness of accessibility in and out of the area by creating a permeable ground level defined by commercial areas in a linear composition extended vertically, forming a mega block in similar manners. these mega blocks provide a mixture of different functions corresponding to the square. and to the courtyard we created a different type of space relatively more private than the square. a calm and silent courtyard with a landscaping touch serving the inhabitants of our houses.

museum with open house in ayvalık

an emptiness in history

the word “migration” consists of so much pain, so much loss. people had to walk away from ayvalık, as their counterparts were detached from the islands, changing their lives compulsorily. people could not resist to stay in their home, in their land, and the history of ayvalık is a witness for all the pain. we can see the blanks in the history of Ayvalık. however, the people who live there now or who visit the town, are not totally aware of this fact. a migration museum can contribute to understanding the past and the feelings of the people who lived through all of that pain. when people walk around in the museum, they come across different spaces, different voids. when these voids and the objects belonging to the migrants are combined, the sensation of the space is changed for people who walk around. also, creating different voids inside the building by architectural elements such as niches, creating a room or a surface in the wall, can help these perceptions.

generation of voids

space experience

ground floor plan when we look from the sea side in the day time, we see ayvalık in silhouette, and see a plain surface on the museum building. however, at the night time, we see the emptiness in the building when the lights are on inside. the façade reveals the inside, and convey the feeling of emptiness. the other façades related with the streets have also voids on the surface for people to feel the inside.

mural terrain/ankara citadel walls: a proposal for new urbanities

interlayers of production/nanotechnology firstly, looking at the site, i realize that there are always an addition, a substraction and transformation in the citadel walls. when we look at the our site in more detail, bent deresi is one of the important architectural elements of our site. according to its physical layers, addition of the road cause the substraction of the other layers, but these substractions are not only in physical layer, also in sociological layers which is more important for this site. when we look at the historical photographs of the site, there are different relationship in different scale. there are a lot of relation around the Bent deresi. also, there are a parallesim between road, bentderesi, green, settlements. after bent deresi is substracted, these relations, sociological, physical, functional, are gone. all of the buildings which are seen in historical photographs and diagrams were production spaces. in the history this site had a production value. around the bent deresi, there is production line in our site. when we look at the more detail to “sof kumasi”, there are a lot of steps to produce. Its production is like an assembly line. the process of production of “sof kumasi” is seen in the picture of Ankara. today, a production line can be added parallel to the water line. like the production of “sof kumasi”, there can be a textile-based production. however, this production line should answer today’s technology. nanotechnology can be produced in this production line.

city scale interpretation wall of fans captures carbondioxide and turn into the fuel to use in the textile factory. also, it can store carbon in storage tanks to create nanotubes. there are a research part which produce an information , laboratory which produce nanotubes for textile, and factory which produce nanotechnological textile. all of them are on a line. however, from the parallel carbon walls, grids are created. grids provide to create spaces between the production walls, which gives a lot of different sections like in history. these grids in nanotechnological part in bentderesi can be enlarged. not just in neighborhood, it can be in city scale, in ankara.

the platform

the goal of the project is to design a center for the students of the university. the major challenge is the radical difference between tthe day and night, work and holiday, inside and outside. the desicions will transform into a structural composition which will accommodate a desired living and working “platform for students of bologna university. bologna city is acting as a platform with squares, streets, public spaces. this platform holds lots of functions and activities together and allows to the relations, connections, interactions between people and also spaces.

to create this platform in the site with our program, it transforms from city scale to building scale and also transforms from plate to volume. additionally, the site is a kind of intermediary space between the historical and the modern, and it has lots of green areas different than the historical city. both protection the green space and the differences of areas, the platform is elevated from the ground, which provides open spaces and an urban connection. the platform, ground and underground spaces are linked by two towers, which emphasize the horizontality and verticality in bologna. these towers provide the circulation, services and also the sleeping areas up to the platform. the platform is free from the ground and the mass walls around, which provide a creative, free environment for students. they use that space with above green, under sky and between two characteristic sides of bologna. to reach the platform, they find their ways with paths which are created between trees as a part of the forest in the ground. these paths also create the spaces for open activities. the lighting cubes which come from courtyards of the platform became a lighting element on the site and burry to the underground. they provide lighting for underground public spaces in day time, also give light to ground from underground in night time.
