How to c reate th e p erf ec t fes ti ve d i n n er table
From the outset decide if you are colour coordinating or mix ing and matching two or three dif ferent colourways. You might also want to go for a theme. Select your tablecloth and napkins fir st, then your cutler y, g lasses and crocker y. Match or mix it up to suit the textiles you have chosen. Mismatching to give a contrast can be impactful too. For a contemporar y countr y feel, go for handblown wine a nd drinking g lasses, linen, org anic shaped tableware and seasonal foliage from your g arden or neares t f lorist. Kee ping it simple by using an of f-white and g rey/silver palette can be stunning too and linking with the natural world and g reat outdoor s is definitely on trend this Christmas. Cover your table with a linen tablecloth and add hand written place cards, named individual gifts, or Christmas decorations, for a per sonal touch. Make sure you have plenty of suitable chair s before the event. If space it tight, benches or stools can be a g reat alter native, as they are more compact. Set the scene with distinctive lighting. White fair y lights casually used can look g reat. Candles also work well, and you could incor porate them into your table centre piece. Tea lights in statement holder s can enhance the atmosphere. You should consider switching of f any overhead lights and use free standing lamps instead, but make sure there is enough light for people to see what they are eating. Selecting a centre piece is a dif ficult thing to do, as it really needs to be a showstopper, but it shouldn’t take up too much space or obstruct talk across the table. Tr y us ing low vases or candle holder s. For a fresh, natural look, use a combination of bare branches and everg reen foliage. Eucalyptus, ivy and rosemar y sprigs that have a silver tinge can work ver y well together at this time of year, if you go for a white/g rey theme. Alter natively, fill a large clear vase or a decorative dish with silver, gold or coloured baubles to complement your colour scheme. Lastly, org anise some suitable backg round music, something you can talk over, that isn’t too obtrusive.
