Southside Community Plan W e are nearing completion of the Southside Community Plan! Over the last two-plus years, many of you have attended meetings, provided comments, and supported the planning process with your knowledge, time and energy. The Southside Community Plan is only possible because of these efforts, thank you! Neighborhoods are the building blocks of Flagstaff. Historic neighborhoods, such as the Southside, with their diverse social, cultural, economic, and physical characteristics, create the story of who we are as a community. Southside is a community in transition. A neighborhood plan informs future public projects, discretionary development, and updates to codes and regulations. This Southside Community Plan has had the lofty goal of maintaining and enhancing the Southside's sense of place and community. When will the plan be completed? There are four more public meetings before the potential adoption of the Southside Community Plan: •Two public hearings with the Planning and Zoning Commission: These are your best opportunities to provide comments and revisions to the Plan. They are scheduled for April 22, 2020 and May 13, 2020. •Two meetings with the City Council: These are your best opportunities to voice your support of the Plan. A work session is scheduled for May 26, 2020 and then the final public hearing will be on June 2, 2020. The hope is that the Plan becomes officially accepted during this final public hearing with City Council.

FMPO to Become MetroP lan T he City of Flagstaff has hosted the Flagstaff Metropolitan Planning Organization (FMPO) for 22 years and effective January 1, 2020, the FMPO is being rebranded as Greater Flagstaff MetroPlan. “The rebranding is an effort to get away from acronyms and say clearly and simply who we are and what we do” said Jeff Meilbeck, the agency’s Executive Director.
MetroPlan is responsible for coordinating transportation plans in the greater Flagstaff area and serves the City of Flagstaff, Coconino County, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), Northern Arizona University (NAU) and Mountain Line. MetroPlan’s core responsibility is to conduct coordinated transportation planning to ensure the ongoing flow of federal and state transportation funds to the region.
“MetroPlan has an ambitious vision to create the finest transportation system in the Country” said MetroPlan Chair, Mayor Coral Evans. “MetroPlan’s mission is accomplished through local government collaboration to ensure that all transportation projects -- state, federal and local -- all work together”. MetroPlan’s Vice Chair, City Councilmember Charlie Odegaard, underscored the value of working together and sees opportunity for the future. “The voters of the City of Flagstaff have stepped up to invest in transportation and we want to leverage our local investment against competitive federal and state funds” said Mayor Evans.
