COLISEUM 34 proposes two approaches that define it’s essence. First, we delved into a revitalization approach to connect the existing community into one whole, knit community that grows and revitalizes itself into a prospering community, not one left in poverty and separation. We then transformed the existing parcel into a dense housing project that maximizes its allowable footprint and a community core that creates a space for community gathering and interaction.

Enmeshed Experiences is a visionary project centered on seamlessly integrating the school with its urban surroundings. The design utilizes diverse circulation paths, transforming them into dynamic gallery spaces that facilitate interaction and collaboration among students, faculty, and external critics. By curating rotating exhibits and cultivating a creatively stimulating form and interior partition, the space is purposefully crafted to ignite inspiration among students specializing in Architecture, Film + Sound, and Graphic Design. The project not only fosters a sense of connectivity but also serves as a catalyst for the continuous exchange of ideas within the vibrant tapestry of the urban and educational landscape.
This floor plan shows the educational program of the building but also shows the the three alcoves created by the form. These alcoves create space for gathering and winding down.

AQUATECTURE

Aquatecture is a public bathhouse with a design that embodies the essence of water, its fluidity, and wetness. The project emphasizes form and circulation, drawing inspiration from the movement of a flowing river. Long corridors symbolize the continuous flow of water, while shorter corridors represent breaks or points where the river diverges or comes to an end. The bathhouse features cold and hot pools, bike parking, and locker rooms, providing both functionality and relaxation. Beyond its architectural expression, the project fosters a sense of connection and serves as a catalyst for community building

Situated near the train tracks and downtown San Luis Obispo, the project is designed to serve as both a hub and a retreat for students and professionals seeking a break from long hours.

MOUNTAINS AND VALLEYS

Type: Interpretative Center

Mountains and Valleys is an interpretative center in which the form was inspired by the mountains and valleys prevalent on the site and the local area, Black Hill, Morro Bay. The “peaks” of the building are meant to resemble the mountains and the linear form is meant to resemble the valleys. The interpretative center is made up of 4 main programs, the Cafe, Educational Gallery, Conference Room, and Hiker Accommodation. The project is focused on creating a dynamic open space on the interior and the exterior acts as an extension of the nearby hiking path.
Step 1: 4 Rectangular Prisms
Step 2: Horizontal Extension based on the contours of the site and to maximize light in the gallery
Step 3: The ends of the mass is pushed down to allow for circulation on top of the building acting as an extension of the paths.

PROFESSIONAL WORK
This project was a collaborative effort in property development, focused on addressing the ongoing shortage of affordable housing. As the team leader, I assessed multiple parcels and developed a thoughtful design while carefully managing financial decisions. Rather than maximizing the number of units per acre, we chose to reduce the total unit count to optimize the project’s proforma and overall viability.
