City Council Adopts 2024-2025 Budget

The Azle City Council adopted the Fiscal Year 2024-2025 budget on August 26, 2024. The fiscal year runs from October 1 to September 30. This budget aims to maintain service levels while making improvements. Operating revenues are expected to rise, with taxable property values increasing by 8.79% to $1.68 billion. New construction contributes $69 million. The Council approved a combined tax rate of $0.6140869 per $100, up by $0.045215 from last year, raising an additional $1.53 million due to higher property values, new construction, and debt issuance for the Dunaway Lane Reconstruction Project (adding $0.035 to the tax rate).

Key achievements include:

● Updates to the Comprehensive Land Use Master Plan which includes the Thoroughfare Plan, Parks Plan, and Downtown Plan.

● Completed street reclamation projects (Sandy Beach Street, Scotland Avenue, Oak Street, Elm Street, and Ash Avenue).

● Capital improvements like new trail and ballfield lights at Shady Grove Park, and golf course facilities renovations.

● Equipment purchases for police, ambulance, and city services.

● Creation of the FeedLot Food Truck Park and a farmers' market.

FY 2024-2025 Budget includes:

● Capital projects for FY2024-2025 include the Dunaway Lane Reconstruction Project, Walnut Creek Lift Station and Force Main upgrades, FM 730 Elevated Storage Tank rehab, Central Park trail improvements, and Shady Grove Park ballfield renovations.

● Ten new positions are added, including firefighters/paramedics (3), police officers (2), dispatcher (2), records assistant, senior accountant, and a full-time library assistant.

● The Street Maintenance Fund includes funds for the reclamation of South Stewart Street.

● New equipment purchases include: 3 ambulances, loader/backhoe, mowers, and more.

● Complete the update and revision of the Comprehensive Land Use Master Plan, which includes the Parks Plan and Thoroughfare Plan, as well as the Downtown Plan.

● Ongoing projects include sewer line slip lining, SCADA system upgrades for lift stations, and a two-year driving range renovation at Cross Timbers Golf Course.

Staff remains cautious amid rising costs, focusing on attracting new businesses. View the complete budget on the city’s website.
