Metaphor, an architectural and exhibition design firm, is the exhibition designer for the Grand Egyptian Museum. Part of my tasks included setting up and maintaining gallery designs in the master Rhinoceros model, setting up renderings under direction of the lead designer and with a fellow intern for Ministerial presentations, laying out a gallery, and working on physical models with team members. I also worked on masterplanning for the National Science Museum, showcase layouts for Marks and Spencers permanent exhibition gallery, and assisted minimally in model-making for the Victoria and Albert Museum’s Cast Courts.

VIRTUAL STUDIO Revit Studio

A
B
C The Virtual Studio was a Revit-based, collaborative with structural engineering students and a client. I worked on a design for a hotel in Fort Lauderdale with Scott Brackney and a team of two engineers. The focus of the design centers on the building standing on the cusp of the sea and the city. The concept of interplay between the city “grid “ and the “naturalistic” sea provided opportunities for areas of community and visitor engagement in the voids, or open spaces in the building.

Chapman Palmer Residence The Chapman Palmer Residence was designed for one of the creators of Homestar Runner on Cartoon Network and his filmmaker wife, The family wanted a house that pushed the limits of a traditional home. The concept of dematerialization surfaced. The Revit renderings by fellow intern, Jonathan Mosteiro, show interiors where double height spaces dematerialize the idea of floor surface.

WEARABLE ENVIRONMENTS Thesis Studio
Post-Crisis Response Architecture Professor Aarati Kanekar 09_2011_05_2012
Due to environmental disasters, human rights violations, or civil unrest, refugees are plucked from their homes, shipped around, stripped of value or identity, and reduced to their physical bodies. How can clothing as the most intimate form of shelter respond psychologically and physically to these traumatized bodies by: 1.offering a feeling of safety, 2. reconstructing the trauma story, and 3. connecting the individual to the community? Clothing-making techniques of weaving, wrapping, stitching, fastening, and folding extend into architectural space while providing solutions to typological issues of refugee shelters like multifunctionality, portability, space-saving, and adaptability and conceptual issues of body as site like fusing skin and bones, identity, and rehabilitation. This thesis looks specifically at refugees in the Horn of Africa.

DEVELOPMENT & DESIGN High Rise Studio Prof. Craig Hinnrichs
Traveling Professors: Architect Douglas McKean Developer Thomas Dunlap, Vornado Structural Engineer, Michael Marinero 08-12_2007
A
The design and development studio is a high rise design studio that incorporates market research, financial analysis, and structural systems. Throughout the semester a New York developer, Thomas Dunlap of Vornado, and a New York architect, Douglas McKean of Design Constructs, an Indiana structural engineer, Michael Marinero, and a studio professor, Craig Hinrichs critiqued the projects of 12 individuals. We visited New York City and learned how the city worked. Individuals had to decide on separate designs that fit into the fabric of NewYork City at the location of 54th Street and 8th Avenue. Issues of FAR, codes, zoning in Midtown West/Theater District/ Clifton (all which landed on the site) had to be resolved. Individuals decided, from research and cost analysis , what mix would be most conducive tot the design, marketability, and profitability of the building.

Sustainability
Market
Features include intensive green roofs for storm water management and public leisure use. Looking at the Solaire mid-rise condo building in Manhattan for inspiration in sustainable design, the high rise utilizes reclaimed and recycled materials.
Market analysis for the high rise looked at comparable residential unit prices in the Hell’s Kitchen area, trends in leisure and amenities, and included a site visit to the location.
