Apartment Maintenance Pathway Program

Training the next multifamily workforce

With double-digit growth expected in Arizona for general maintenance and repair workers, the multi-stage Apartment Maintenance Pathway program is preparing a future workforce for the multifamily industry.

The Arizona Multihousing Association is partnering with the Refrigeration School Inc. (RSI), Chicanos Por La Causa, ARIZONA@WORK, the City of Phoenix, AZP Multifamily, and the National Apartment Association in the six-week program.

Once participants complete the course – hands-on training based off the Certified Apartment Maintenance Technician (CAM-T) curriculum – they will be placed with AMA management company member companies for an eight-week paid internship program.

If both the candidate and the company find it to be a good find, a formal and permanent employment offer will be extended. Candidates will also have the opportunity to take their CAMT certification.

The program has placed over 20 individuals with maintenance careers in the multihousing industry!

The Apartment Maintenance Pathway program has two stages:

Stage 1:

The first stage is the training stage. RSI has partnered with ARIZONA@WORK to provide training for the Apartment Maintenance Pathway program.

Approved applicants 18 years or older can receive the six-week training course from RSI which includes certificate of completion from RSI and Certified Apartment Maintenance Technician Certificate from CAMT.

Stage 2:

The second stage is the paid internship which includes paid on-the-job training at $18/hour by the NAA Employer Partner or AZ@WORK for up to 8 weeks; and a paid internship location that will be based on the geographic location of the employer partner.

The focus of the internship is to give the candidate hands-on experience as an apartment maintenance technician that can lead to a full-time job with that employer partner. These positions have competitive entry-level salaries and include full benefits in the $18 to $22 an hour pay range.
