ENHANCING SMALL SCALE FISHING SECTOR´S PARTICIPATION IN DECISION-MAKING European Union Funding for Research & Innovation

PROJECT ACTION 1 The aim of this action is to get knowledge about the organizations and bodies that represent the EU´s Small Scale Fisheries at local, regional, national and EU level. In particular, the scope of action is limited to the geographical area of south-western waters covering Spain, France and Portugal countries. –. ICES Zonas VIII, IV y X (aguas alrededor de Azores), y CECAF Zonas 34.1.1, 34.1.2 y 34.2.0 (aguas alrededor de Madeira e Islas Canarias).

Key issues: • 300 organizations develop the Small Scale fisheries representation at local, national, regional and European Union decision-making for a, in south-western waters. • Only around 3% of them develop it exclusivity for this subsector • The nature of the representation by Country is showed in next image.

This action aims developing a database of reference of the organizations and bodies that represent the south-westers waters’ Small Scale Fisheries. The nature of the organizations and the geographical dimension are two of the major dimensions of the database.

EVENTS • First transference to the CCS of the main project objectives. In addition, the aim was to consider key people to be involved in the following stages of the project. Santiago de Compostela, April 2016 • Transference of the main project objectives at local level between different small scale fisheries stakeholders, across the western waters between February and Mayo 2016. A traditional e-mail survey was implemented.
