...Continued from page 5 Singer-songwriter Lionel Richie got his start in Motown as part of the Commodores, but it’s as a solo artist that he really shines. He became one of the most successful male solo artists of the 1980s, earning No. 1 hits starting with his debut in 1982 with “Truly.” His other hits include the Caribbeanflavored “All Night Long,” “Endless Love” with Diana Ross, “Hello” and “Say You, Say Me,” which also won an Academy Award and a Golden Globe. Now the five-time Grammy winner is following up a sold-out European run with a North American tour, including a stop at Ak-Chin Pavilion. He’ll perform hits from his 30-year discography, beginning with his eponymous 1982 debut and extending through 2012’s Tuskegee, a platinum-selling collection that features duets of his hits with a variety of artists. Word on the street is that these concerts tend to become a giant sing-along, so brush up on your lyrics and get ready for some of the greatest ballads the ‘80s had to offer and much more. Sharing the stage with the five-time Grammy winner will be CeeLo Green. Known for his solo career as well as being a part of the soul duo Gnarls Barkley, Green has recorded numerous hits and is

most widely recognized for the charttopping single “Crazy” and his time as a judge on The Voice. Ak-Chin Pavilion, (2121 North 83rd Avenue Phoenix, AZ 85035)

Their latest album, Helios, features instant hits “Hurricane” and “Love Don’t Die.” You’ll definitely hear those songs on this tour, along with audience favorites from throughout the band’s career. Opening for the band are piano-based indie rockers Barcelona and Oh Honey, whose breezy, West Coast folk-pop is the perfect sound of the summer. •In getting your weekday afternoon shift on “Weather Center Live,” how did it feel to be partnered with recent channel returnee Dave Schwartz?

I know the day it was announced, people were thrilled that he was coming back, especially those who had worked with him. Those of us who hadn’t been here then knew of him, so we were also saying, “Oh, my gosh. This is so exciting!” It was pretty much all the upstairs decision-makers who put him where they put him, and with me, eventually ... but I don’t think there was anyone who said, “I don’t want to work with him.” A lot of us got our start in meteorology because of Dave Schwartz, so I think his love of weather is fascinating and also inspiring to some.

As we approach the summer months, more and more people are traveling to escape the heat. Safety while traveling is important to think about as you’re in a new environment and unaware of your new surroundings. Being aware is always the first step to self-defense, but while traveling there are some things you should know to ensure you always take the necessary precautions.

THE PALMS THEATRE ANNOUNCES FANTASTIC 14TH SEASON!! The Palms Theatre in Mesa, Arizona announces their 2014-2015 season beginning with the hilarious musical comedy Two By Two. With music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Martin Charnin, this is a fresh retelling of the Biblical story of Noah. It seems that the building of the ark was only the first of Noah’s many daunting challenges in a journey that wasn’t always smooth sailing. By turns inspirational and hilarious, we discover that being chosen by God for great things does not necessarily simplify the daily demands made of a father and husband. It’s good fun from The Good Book and when the land has dried, man and beast alike are invited to go forth and prosper in a bright New World. As time goes on, the message of survival and determination at the heart of this full-hearted musical still resonates, as true and timeless as ever. Also slated for the 2014-2015 season on the main stage are: Miracle on 34th Street, Annie Get Your Gun and Menopause The Musical. The Marquee Theatre will again feature comedies including Run For Your Wife and Caught in the Net in repertory, a first for The Palms, followed by Nana’s Naughty Knickers and Love, Sex and the IRS. A full schedule of tribute concerts on both the main stage and Marquee Theatre will feature returning favorites such as AbbaFab, Piano Man, One of These Nights, Strait Country, Flipside-45, Man In Black and December ‘63, as well as a wide variety of new concerts spanning genres from country to rock to The Great American Songbook. New Years Eve will feature two performances of Rave On - A Salute to the Music of Buddy Holly and the Crickets, an “Early Bird” matinee performance and a later traditional New Year’s Eve celebration. All Tickets will go on sale Monday, September 2. For more information, please visit the theatre’s website at www.thepalmstheatre.com, check out their Facebook page The Palms Theatre or call (480) 924-6260.

REVIEWERS ROUNDTABLE The following are reactions from each of AZ Weekly Entertainment Magazine’s film commentators in an effort to generate a wellrounded overview of this weekend’s new releases.

DIDN T KNOW! by Stan Robinson

Stan Robinson’s reviews reflect the insights of an insider. With over 20 years of film and television production experience, Stan uses his behind-thescenes expertise to survey a film’s technical attributes and considers the challenges that had to be overcome in order to cinematically present a story. E-mail him at Movies@StanRobinson.org.

JOSEPH J. AIRDO

Randy Montgomery’s reactions reveal the emotional intuition of an average moviegoer. With a master’s degree in counseling and education, Randy grounds his opinions in a unique combination of both a movie’s surface entertainment value and its ability to affect him on an even deeper level. E-mail him at Randyjay7694@yahoo.com.

HERB STRATFORD

Joseph J. Airdo’s remarks represent the analytical perspective. A producer of, and film columnist for, “Breakthrough Entertainment,” a talk radio show airing 9 a.m. to Noon Saturdays on KPHX 1480 AM that shines a spotlight on the practical perspectives of the topics and themes explored in movies. E-mail him at joseph. airdo@gmail.com.

Herb Stratford’s perspective on film is story first. Herb watches thousands of films a year as he programs the Napa Valley film fest in Napa, CA. Catch Herb on KVOI 1030 AM’s ‘Wake Up Tucson’ radio show every Friday morning at 7:30am, KVOA-TV (NBC), and KMSB-TV (Fox) every Thursday. Email him at Herb@ artsandcultureguy.com

‘Trust Me’

‘Words and Pictures’

Clark Gregg plays a struggling agent for child actors - and former child star himself - who spends years losing his most talented clients to his slick, arch-nemesis (Sam Rockwell). (R - 90 minutes)

Juliette Binoche and Clive Owen play an art instructor and an English teacher, respectively, who form a rivalry that ends up with a competition at their school in which students decide whether words or pictures are more important. (PG-13 - 111 minutes)

Joseph: “Trust Me” tries to satirize the entertainment industry (thereby earning audience admiration through laughs) while also adding some depth to his project (thereby earning the title of artist that every filmmaker longs to have). At times, the mix is amusing. However, for the most part, it is just plain weird - with no scene stranger than the final one.

Stan: Providing insight into the impact of each one of these ‘art forms’, I thought of how the choice of ‘words’ we film columnists use to put images in the minds of our readers and how the ‘pictures’ accompanies the prose to collectively form the concept in our minds, the film ‘Words and Pictures’ very effectively reminds us to rise above the singularity of each in any relationship. Joseph: While the romantic relationship that “Words and Pictures” tries to paint between its two leads is never quite believable, the way that the characters impact one another is genuinely affecting. The new romantic dramedy demonstrates how human interaction improves our lives and that relationships of any and all types are essential to our own advancement.

The following quotes were pulled from interviews conducted by AZ Weekly Entertainment Magazine’s film columnists with talent speaking on behalf of movies recently released in theaters.

Director Fred Schepisi (‘Words and Pictures’) By Joseph J. Airdo

“[Juliette Binoche and Clive Owen] were fantastic. First of all, they have always wanted to work together. Secondly, when I put them together, you could see that they had great respect for one another, a great rapport and a very similar sense of humor. So I knew that that was going to be fantastic as a pairing. “I knew that Juliette painted a little bit but I did not know the depths of her talent and experience. Boy was I happy to find that out because it meant we did not have to fake it. And it was clear that she was prepared to go on the journey as a painter - pretty

much the same journey - for different reasons - that her character had to do to go from portraiture to abstract. “And Clive is a classically trained actor from the [Royal Academy of Dramatic Art] in London. He has got a love for language and he just jumped at this because of that - and because of how well [Gerald Di Pego] wrote the script, how smart the rhythm of the language was and the humor. He got that immediately so that made my job a lot easier, let me tell you.

or expectations of themselves. But at a certain point, they have to kind of realize that they are either not capable of it physically or mentally; that they need to kind of work out where they are and find a way to move forward. Often they are really good at something that they do not expect to be good at - and that is worth just as much as whatever their dream was.” - Fred Schepisi

Stan Robinson - 7 Years and Counting! As June 2014 gets underway, nostalgia along with a few other emotions took hold as I reflected on my life of involvement with movies. It all started at age 14 when I was captivated with seeing the 1960 movie ‘The Time Machine’, a George Pal production of the classic H. G. Wells story. That movie captured the heart of a young teen. Going on to film school, working on various film and media projects for over 20 years, and now, it is the start of seven years of seeing movies and writing about them for AZ Weekly Entertainment Magazine.

Many thanks to AZ Weekly Entertainment Magazine for the opportunity to continue my passion for the art of film after retiring from film production in 2008!

My Executive Assistant, Cynthia Tracy, who has as one of her responsibilities of transcribing my interviews, came up with ‘Bet You Didn’t Know’ as it relates to my involvement! 7 years = 364 weeks of movies; watching on the average of 5 movies per week = 1,820 movies; with an average movie running time of 2 hours = 3,640 hours of viewing (not counting trailers that are also watched), and over a 100 or so interviews of which about three fourths are with producers, directors, and production persons!

‘EDGE OF TOMORROW’

By Stan Robinson Starring one of my favorite action actors, this sci-fi/action story presents a soldier (Tom Cruise) fighting in a war with aliens who finds himself caught in a time loop of his last day in the battle. With each pass of the time loop, he becomes tougher, smarter, and is able to engage the Mimics aliens with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt), who has laid waste to more Mimics than anyone on Earth. As Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated battle becomes

an opportunity to find the key to annihilating the alien invaders once and for all to save Earth. Outstanding special effects and presented in IMAX – 3D, the ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ provides an ‘edge of your seat’ thriller, from start to finish. Starring Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt, Brendan Gleeson, Bill Paxton, Jonas Armstrong, Tony Way, and Kick Gurry. Directed by Doug Liman, Screenplay by Christopher McQuarrie & Jez Butterworth. WORDS FROM THE WISE

By three methods we may learn wisdom: first, by reflection which is noblest; second by imitation which is easiest; and third, by experience which is the most bitter. - Confucius

It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it. - Aristotle

Most important in a friendship? Tolerance and loyalty. – Joanne Kathleen Rowling

In charity, there is no excess. – Francis Bacon Sr. If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader. – John Quincy Adams You have your way. I have my way. As for the right way, the correct way, and the only way, it does not exist. – Friedrich Nietzsche

I destroy my enemies when I make them my friends. – Abraham Lincoln

Driver gets wrecked, becomes overwhelmed with fury and races towards the driver deemed responsible. It’s a fact of life in the high-stakes world of stock car racing and comes with a long history of intense feuds, both on and off the track. Let’s take a look at some of the most notorious beefs and battles the sport of racing has seen throughout the years. Those under the millions of watchful eyes fans eagerly follow with mega doses of fiery interest and opinion. Enter….

HAMLIN VS. KESELOWSKI

RACE! SECTION

FIERY FEUDS TO REV UP YOUR RACING MOOD! May 24th 2008 Following the Nationwide Series race at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, second-place Denny Hamlin and third-place Brad Keselowski spent several tension-filled minutes next to each other at a press conference before being escorted to the NASCAR hauler. Their respective pit crews had scuffled after the race, and Keselowski’s car co-owner Dale Earnhardt Jr. also became involved, bumping Hamlin’s car under caution. Afterward, the two had plenty to say: “You throw a rock, I’m going to throw a concrete block,” Hamlin said. “He doesn’t like when guys race him hard?” Keselowski countered. “Well, that’s the sport and that’s what I do.” Many feel this particular duo will evolve into the ultimate rivalry, sooner than not.

Lexus LS 460 Test & Photo by Chad Haire This LS-460 is the flagship of the Lexus line. This becomes obvious looking at the entry fee. Starting price is $72K, and with options. My first car seen here came to $78K. Later I had another LS-460 with the Sport Package, an $8K option. It included too much to list, but with an adjustable suspension (soft, medium, sport) and performance goodies, it was a real performer. Total tab on this one was a hefty $89K. I did find it insulting that we were charged an extra $65 for cargo net and $105 for trunk carpet on these. Come on Lexus, this should be standard! Under the hood is a powerful V-8, cranking 386 horsepower, and hooked to a slick 8-speed automatic gearbox. Gas mileage is rated at 16/24 mpg. I did get 26 on trips between Scottsdale and Flagstaff. The ride is super smooth, and the wind noise is very low. Stiffing the suspension on the sport model really assisted cornering ability, but was still comfortable. The cabin has more toys to press than a 747 jet liner, but all controls are easy to operate. Lots of comfort and luxury here. Quality too, as this car is really screwed together. If you are taking a thousand mile road trip in this car, you will be looking for an excuse to go another thousand miles. It’s that good.

Yes, there are a lot of European cars in this price range that have more status, but they spend a lot of time in the repair shop when the warranty runs out. The Lexus has proven to be trouble free in its old age, and that may be worth the price alone.

LAGER LOVE We live in a country where many of the early commercial brewers were Lager brewers. Lager styles were more profitable than the English ales that early settlers had been drinking and Lagers were preferred due to their longevity. The lager brewed by these commercial brewers was originally based on several different styles of central Europe, but eventually the Pilsner style became the favorite. With its mild Czech or German hops, pale, lightly roasted barley, and its ability to include adjuncts such as rice and corn, it was the clear cut winner. So, it is only natural that we have come to enjoy Lager beers. For many of

us Lager styles are the first beers we ever tried, likely snuck out of our parents’ refrigerator when they were not around. For that reason, Lagers are the “comfort food” of beer in the United States

In Pennsylvania, Yuengling Lager is ubiquitous, which has created a beer landscape unlike any other in the country. If you walk into any bar, especially in the eastern part of the state and call out “Lager!” you will have a cold amber glass of Yuengling in under a minute, no questions asked… except maybe “Draft or bottle?”

In Arizona we do not have that locally produced Lager that everybody knows, but we do have the Mexican Lagers, Corona, Dos Equis, Modelo and more. We enjoy our Heineken and Pilsner Urquell and the rest of the European Lagers we get to drink. We have yet to embrace much in the way of the Canadian or Japanese Lagers, but that is okay. Granted, at one point A-1 Pilsner was THE Arizona beer, but the current rendition of that beer is not true to the original recipe, nor is it even a Lager. Regardless, in Arizona, we, as an overall consumer base, drink Lagers.

But you’d never know it if you asked most “alpha beer geeks.” They tend to dismiss lagers, largely because the mainstream brands they loudly disrespect are all lagers. Silly beer snobs. That’s like dismissing crisp baguettes and tangy sourdough because you think Wonder Bread is soft and bland. If it’s not an IPA, if it’s not wildly aromatic and stuffed with hops, it ain’t craft!

Speak softly to these people, and hand them a glass of Grand Canyon Pilsner. The hop aroma will suck them in, the bright effervescence will excite them, and the clean malt body will have them reaching for another before they even realize it’s a…lager! Then switch them to an Oskar Blues Mama’s Little YellaPils. This Bohemian style pilsner tastes like it was brewed in the Czech Republic and the Saaz hops are there for all to smell…and taste. That’s when you can take a moment to remind them that lagers are harder to make than ales. As one lager brewer said, “Ales! I could teach a chimp to make ales. I brew lagers.” He was exaggerating, but…lagers are much less forgiving of errors, the cold-maturation takes three to four times as long as ales, and lager’s straightforward and clean nature means that a brewer has nowhere to hide. All true, and it all adds up to lagers being more expensive to make. They need more care with their yeast strains (more lab equipment, more yeast cultures). Some lagers use a decoction mashing process (too involved to explain, but it takes more energy). The cold maturation means more energy for chilling the tanks, and the longer maturation time means brewers need to buy (and maintain, and plumb, and Continued On Page 30...

...Continued from page 28 find space for) more tanks to put out the same amount of beer. But the hard part is that they can’t really charge more to cover those costs; the consumer doesn’t see them. Craft lager brewers are a stubborn lot who really do it more for love than money! Is it worth it? I absolutely believe so, and I believe in introducing people to great craft lagers all the time. Despite the notion that lagers are bland, or too simple, or not hoppy (that one just makes me laugh), there are lagers that can go toe-to-toe with ales. Let’s have a look. Do you have a hophead? Try them out with a brilliant beer like Coney Island Sword Swallower buzzing with 8 different hops, or maybe the recently released New Belgium Hoppy Bock Lager or one of the new breed of IPLs (India Pale Lager) now showing up on the market.

Does your geek like stouts and porters? Dunkel is the word, and Thunder Canyon makes a great one: dark, aromatic, and flavorful malts combine with lager’s classic smooth drinkability. It is not always available so keep an eye out for it when it is. Or look for Port Brewing Hot Rocks Lager…considered a Dunkel despite its Steinbeer origins, it is a multiple national and interenational medal winner. Or try a classic from a German brewer: AndechsDunkel, a rippling river of toasty sweet malt, so flavorful and friendly, a great

introduction for those who are afraid of the dark. Unfortunately, this one is not available yet in Arizona, but look for it when you travel. Lager’s got the big beer drinker covered, too. Warm up with PaulanerSavlatordoublebock, the original doublebock at a muscle-flexing 7.9%. It truly deserves to be called liquid bread. Doublebocks are warming and filling, with a broad, complex palette of malt flavor. For something a little different, try Schneider Aventinus, a wheat based doublebock that is one of the few wheat beers to score a perfect 100 points on RateBeer. com. Another big hitter in this style is new to Arizona AndechsDunkel. This is an amazing beer from one of the few remaining monastic breweries in Germany. And lager’s got something ale doesn’t, one of the most popular seasonal beers in the world: the beer of Oktoberfest, the malty amber beauty also known as märzen. There are so many wonderful ones, you likely cannot go wrong no matter what you choose, but look for Paulaner year round and Bell’s, Left Hand and Leinenkugel in the fall. Nothing can beat their hearty malt character for pairing with a wide variety of food: pizza, chicken, sausage, cheese, noodles, and roast pork. They go pretty well with tuba music, too! Lagers are an underappreciated segment of craft beer, and we need to change that. Let’s get some lager love going!

Cancer patient ‘Chasing Life’

Italia Ricci

ABC Family’s series have dealt with pretty little liars and twisted adolescents, but a new one involves a subject too familiar to too many: cancer. Premiering Tuesday, June 10, “Chasing Life” – adapted from the Mexican show “Terminales” – casts Italia Ricci (“Aaron Stone”) as April, a young woman whose journalism career and love life are looking up when her pursuit of a story puts her in a hospital. Her oncologist uncle (Steven Weber) then gives her the news about her health, which she first rejects, then comes to accept as she be-

38

gins treatment and resolves to live life fully. Ricci notes, “Ours isn’t exactly the same” as the original version of the series, one reason she didn’t watch “Terminales” before “Chasing Life” began filming. She did see that show’s pilot afterward, “and it was interesting. That one’s a little racier than ours, which I was pretty surprised by, but I hope I make them proud and do them justice with my interpretation.” Originating network Televisa is one of the production entities on “Chasing Life.” Executive producer Patrick Sean Smith previously over-

saw ABC Family’s “Greek,” and he says the channel has “pushed the envelope” since he made that show, claiming that’s seen by the new series’ third episode when effects of April’s cancer become apparent. “When you think about the portrayal of cancer on television over the past decade,” Smith reflects, “the character deals with it as part of a story that’s with other stories, then it’s sort of resolved. With this, we can show so many different sides of it for one character. The idea for me has always been that this is about a universal shift in perception for a young person, how

they cope with it and how the people around them react to it.” April’s mother (Mary Page Keller), sister (Haley Ramm) and grandmother (Rebecca Schull) don’t learn of her condition for a while. Even her new boyfriend, newsroom colleague Dominic (Richard Brancatisano), is kept in the dark as April often finds it easier to research her illness as if it’s another story she’s covering. Case in point: her interview with a juicing advocate cancer survivor known as “Carrot Dude”(guest star Sam Anderson) in Episode 3.

Ghostbusters 3 p.m. on AMC This spirited comedy was the summer blockbuster of 1984, and the years haven’t diluted its dry wit. Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson star as ghost exterminators who are quickly promoted from capturing the occasional poltergeist to saving the world when a powerful demon tries to take Manhattan. Sigourney Weaver plays the musician who catches the eye of Murray’s character and whose building is ground zero for the demonic invasion.

Kung Fu Panda 8 p.m. on FX

Snow Dogs 4 p.m. on FAM Baby, it’s cold outside! Cuba Gooding Jr. stars as Ted Brooks, a dentist who inherits a team of sled dogs. But he’s from Miami, and the pooches like it chilly. The good dentist has to learn how to drive the team so he can win an important race; otherwise, he loses his canine colleagues to a rival. James Coburn, Sisqo, Nichelle Nichols and Graham Greene co-star in this 2002 family flick.

Robin and Marian 5 p.m. on TCM Robin Hood (Sean Connery) has aged well in this 1976 telling of his life after youthful ambitions have faded. The Crusades are over, and Robin and Little John (Nicol Williamson) return to England. They find things have changed greatly. Lady Marian (Audrey Hepburn) lives in a nunnery, and King Richard (Richard

“NOVA”

The title character doesn’t know martial arts when the movie begins, but that changes fast in this fun, animated comedy-adventure featuring the voice of Jack Black in the main role. Po is in the wrong place at the wrong time when he is selected to learn combat skills — and he must do so quickly to stave off a threat from an enemy snow leopard. The excellent voice cast also includes Dustin Hoffman, Angelina Jolie, Jackie Chan, Lucy Liu and Ian McShane.

WEDNESDAY NOVA 8 p.m. on 8 KAET The groundbreaking “Earth From Space” reveals a spectacular new space-based vision of Earth. Produced in consultation with NASA scientists, it takes data from satellites and transforms them into dazzling visual sequences, each one exposing the intricate web of forces that sustain life on Earth — from how dust blown from the Sahara fertilizes the Amazon to how a vast “waterfall” off Antarctica helps drive ocean currents around the world.

Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure 8 p.m. on DISN A blue moon only happens ... well, once in a blue moon, and Tinker Bell and her friend Terence are building a special scepter to catch its light for replenishing the pixie dust tree. Things go wrong, however, and Tink sets out to make things right and save Pixie Hollow’s Autumn Revelry festival. Mae Whitman, Kristin Chenoweth and Anjelica Huston lead the voice cast of this animated adventure, with Jesse McCartney as the voice of Terence.

SATURDAY 101 Dalmatians 12 p.m. on FAM

How to Train Your Dragon 8 p.m. on FX

This live-action 1996 version of the animated Disney classic features lots of cute puppies, with Jeff Daniels and Joely Richardson playing their owners. The clear show-stealer, though, is Glenn Close; she’s absolutely ideal as Cruella De Vil, who has sinister reasons for wanting to get her hands on the dalmatians. Written by John Hughes (“Home Alone”), the update co-stars Joan Plowright and Hugh Laurie.

In this adaptation of the same-named Cressida Cowell book, Jay Baruchel (“She’s Out of My League”) voices a young Viking-in-training named Hiccup who wants to impress his demanding father (voice of Gerard Butler) by mastering the title task. His mentor has the enjoyable vocals of comic and latenight television host Craig Ferguson. America Ferrera (“Ugly Betty”) and “Superbad” alumni Jonah Hill and Christopher Mintz-Plasse also are heard.

311 LIVE AT THE POOL AT TALKING STICK RESORT

The new pool venue at Talking Stick Resort will soon be filled with a perfect fusion of reggae, rock and rap as it welcomes 311 on June 29. A radio staple of the 90s, 311 has been praised for their distinct harmonies and upbeat lyrics making the Sunday event memorable from beginning to end.

Twenty-six years after making their debut, 311 continues to receive rave reviews about their signature musical style, overall versatility and mass appeal to audiences of all ages. Longtime fans can brace themselves for a good time as the band always exudes positive energy at every show!

Named after the Nebraska state police code for indecent exposure, 311 formed in 1988 in Omaha. The band released their self-titled album in 1995 and instantly catapulted to fame, gaining a dedicated following and star-studded reputation. The record was eventually certified triple platinum and generated three hit singles that received constant radio airplay including “All Mixed Up,” “Down” and “Don’t Stay Home.”

Tickets for 311 are on sale now. Tickets are also available for the Pool Party with the band Staind on June 8th and on June 27th Party at the Pool with the band Collective Soul ! To purchase tickets, visit the Talking Stick Resort Box Office, call (480) 850-7734, or visit www.Ticketmaster.com. Must be 21 or older to attend

Once again, Insomniac turned up the heat over Memorial Day Weekends 3rd annual Electric Daisy Carnival in New York. Held at Met Life Stadium, the grounds were transformed into an unbound wave of energy, music, and lights. Over the 2 day held event, approximately 100,000 attendees arrived to laugh, dance, and parade through carnival rides, 4 massive stages highlighting 70 musically diverse artists, and live performances by some of the most talented staff around. The basic principle of EDC is to provide an experience like none other, and as previous EDCs go, Insomniac nailed it. The production, details, and all of the minute things in between,

were a sight to see. One of the largest highlights of the show is an odd one. At about 4pm on Saturday, a massive storm provided at least 1-2 inches of rain which lasted about an hour and a half. While this would have caused a hiccup at any normal show…EDC isn’t a normal show. Everyone danced in the rain and embraced Mother Nature as their own, further enhancing an experience rather than fighting it. At the end of the day, Insomniac provided another amazing lasting impression among patrons. It’s never too late to plan ahead for next year’s show. Just be sure to bring your dancing shoes…. and maybe an umbrella. –Tavit & Lydia
