Moonlight Madness / Second Saturdays thru September The Titan Missile Museum will help send your name into space during its first of four 2014 cool Saturday summer evening programs, Moonlight MADness. Working with NASA, Titan volunteers will run the Educational Design Challenge (EDC), geared specifically for kids, on Sat., Jun. 14. Participants who complete the challenge will have their names sent into space as virtual crew members of the first Orion EFT-1 unmanned space flight scheduled for Dec. 2014. TUCSON MUSEUM OF ART – ROSE CABAT AT 100: A RETROSPECTIVE EXHIBITION OF CERAMICS Thru September 14th Tucson Museum of Art celebrates the artistry of Rose Cabat--an American studio ceramicist living in Tucson. Considered one of the most important ceramic artists of the Mid-century Modernist movement, Cabat is best known for her innovative glazes on small porcelain pots called “feelies” which she developed in the 1960s. Her organic forms often resemble the shape of onions and figs, and her glazes range from organic to jewel tones. This exhibition will be a survey of her different styles from the 1960s until the present to celebrate the year of her 100th birthday.
THE UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA MUSEUM OF ART LAUNCHES SPACE ART EXHIBITION Thru July 4th A new exhibition at the University of Arizona Museum of Art titled, Robert McCall’s Universe, showcases selected paintings and drawings by NASA’s foremost space artist. The exhibition, which is open to the public, starts March 14 and continues through July 4. From a six-story high mural in the National Air and Space Museum, Washington D.C, to US postage stamps and astronaut mission patches, McCall’s work includes hundreds of paintings as well as illustrations for NASA, numerous national magazines, and for such seminal films as Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey. Robert McCall’s Universe is part of the series, An Unfolding Legacy, a celebration of 90 years of art exhibits on the University campus. The Unfolding Legacy series began in November 2013 and will continue through March 2015. It showcases masterworks from its permanent collection in a series of 19 changing exhibitions and two ongoing exhibitions.

Grade: B‘The Other Woman’ ~ Starts off promising, then turns into a silly, unbelievable romp. A waste of such a talented cast. Joseph: Witnessing human debauchery on film can be quite amusing. And “Filth” has - as its title warns - more than its fair share of human debauchery. However, what writer/director Jon S. Baird forgets to do is make any of it even remotely funny therefore the new crime comedy does little more than leave a bad taste in your mouth.
Herb: This moderately amusing entry into the found-footage/faux investigative horror genre puts a couple tracking Bigfoot in some sticky situations. Not much new here, but the film is entertaining in light of the recent reality TV shows that track similar obsessed cryptozoology fiends in their quest for acceptance by the science community.

Johnny Depp pays a visit to Ralph Steadman, the renowned artist and the last of the original Gonzo visionaries who worked alongside Hunter S. Thompson. (R - 89 minutes) Stan: Providing that trip down memory lane for those of us who were coming of age in the 60s & 70s and aware of the works of Ralph Steadman, this docu-drama captures the visit of Johnny Depp with Ralph Steadman. It’s the envy of this reviewer to have the opportunity to experience first hand the humor, wit, insight, and his creative expertise at work, and ‘good reason’ to see the film a 2nd time. Herb: An engaging look at artist/ illustrator Ralph Steadman’s long career, the film goes deep on the long-time near brotherhood between the artist and author Hunter S. Thompson. I was intrigued by Steadman’s earliest work, which railed against the 1970’s political landscape, which was both striking for its brutal honesty and near scandalous content.

During the summer in Tucson, to keep your cool sometimes we really have to get out of town now and then and jump in a lake, river or stream. Arizona has some of the most amazing outdoor escapes that aren’t too far or too expensive to get to. Roosevelt Lake, the largest lake in central AZ, has dramatic mountain and canyon views all around its 112mile shoreline. The spring water is still cold and refreshing across the 17,000 acre surface of the lake. Whether you prefer to sightsee, fish, swim or partake in water sporting activities; this lake has it all for a weekend of fun. We caught many catfish right off the shore of camp and witnessed many different kinds of wildlife including the majestic Night Herrings that soared over the surface of the water at dawn and dusk. There are solar powered camp sites, shaded BBQ areas and nice lakeshore beaches to pitch a tent and relax for the weekend (primitive camping), most of which allow you to
launch your boat directly from camp. If you are in need of boat or watersport rental gear stop by the marina where it’s all happening, or for busy holidays and weekends make reservations to ensure your water sport fun will be ready and waiting when you arrive. You can also check out the website rlmaz. com for more information, directions, prices and boat rental details. Many of the sites are much more crowded than others, I chose to stay at the Windy Hill camp area and it was private and peaceful, many other areas were packed and full of Memorial Day excitement. There is a great visitors center for tourist goodies and information as well, if you have never been here stop by to help plan your getaway and make the most of your days! So get your sunscreen, camera, family and friends (dogs are welcome, just clean up after them) to head out on a lake side adventure this summer!

As well-versed as she clearly is in kitchens, Rachael Ray also knows what it takes to get food to a customer’s table. Heading toward the ninth season of her syndicated weekday show, the popular personality rewards waiters and waitresses in Food Network’s “The Big Tip With Rachael Ray” Sunday, June 8. The first in a projected series of specials, it fulfills what Ray says was her aim of doing “a show that incorporated food-service professionals. Food Network approached me about doing a show about extraordinary people who happened to wait tables for a living but also were great parents or children or community service providers who have a great tale to tell.” The subjects believe they’re involved in a different sort of show that showcases restaurants throughout America. “Then, unbeknownst to them, I come into town,” Ray explains. “I chat with them a bit, then I give away a lot of money. Two people get $1,000, then one person gets $10,000 in cash.” Since her family owned and managed restaurants, Ray is reminded strongly of her own roots by her “Big Tip” experiences. “I remember, when I was a kid waiting on tables, how much it meant to me when you’d give someone a $3 check and they’d leave you five bucks. Or when a bunch of construction guys would come in and leave you a 20. It was a big deal, not only for your confidence level, but it really made you feel special and valued.”

I never stopped writing. Most of my friends, and those who are really close to me, tend to believe my acting is better as long as I am writing. I got into the spokenword scene when I couldn’t afford acting class anymore. My style of delivering the poem onstage was not a lot of physical movement or hysteria. It is probably closer to what you are taught in acting class. •What sort of drama training did you have?
I found the stage in L.A. and in New York, then I couldn’t afford any more classes. In New York, I started with (noted acting coach Sanford) Meisner. I minored in theater in college. I was a journalism major but had another year on the football field.

Race leader parked for aggressive driving Reuschenberg wins action-packed Super feature By Kristi O’Brien The temperature was not the only thing sizzling at Tucson Speedway’s Summer Sizzle event on Saturday. As the saying goes, “Rubbin’s Racin’” and when that’s the case, everyone has someone to blame. But, ultimately, it is up to track officials to determine the aggressor, and Brandon Schilling got the call during the 103-lap Super Late Model main event. Schilling took the lead on lap two from his fifth-place starting position. By lap 10,
Schilling had opened up a comfortable lead on Scott Reuschenberg and Ned Champine battling for second. Struggling with a loose setup, Jeff Spencer spun his 00 car bringing out the caution and closing the gap. Reuschenberg made a run to the inside of Schilling on the 22nd lap. Contact was made, but both drivers were able to maintain control, sparing the caution. Again the two found themselves battling for the lead on lap 40, this time sending Rueschenberg spinning in turn three.
Racing resumed on lap 50, with Ron Norman trying to take the top spot from Schilling. Norman headed to the inside to pass Schilling, contact was made, sending Norman hard into the turn three wall. The incident set off a chain reaction behind them collecting Mike Foster and Spencer in the wreckage. Track officials faulted Schilling for the incident, black-flagging the No. 20 for the remainder of the race. Norman said Schilling hit him in the right rear after he had cleared him. According to Schilling, it was a case of close racing and that he simply held his line. Officials saw the situation differently and Schilling was told to park it. Reuschenberg went on to take the checkered flag, with Rick Butler in second and Tim Blodgett in third. Mariah McGriff and Brian Harrington Jr. rounded out the top five. Along with his appreciation to his sponsors, Reuschenberg credits his 4-year-old son, Corbin, and his wife, Eileen, for being his “absolute champs” in the pits and supporting his racing endeavors. Tony Helm led a field of Hornets to the green flag for the main event. Randy Dowty and Brandon Olds put on a show as they battled for second. In the end, there was no change to the top three with Helm taking the win. Ryan Pagano came in fourth with Allen Dowty fifth. Loren Sheffield sat on the pole for the Pro Stock feature race with John Nahoopii outside front row. Ken Hunt and Jeremy Smith took over second and third early on leaving Nahoopii to battle for fourth with Jason Davis. The close battle raged between the top three cars with Smith taking the lead. Hunt took second on lap 10. Sheffield rounded out the top three. Davis and Nahoopii completed the leader board.
David Levitt led a field of Modifieds around to the green flag. Keith Lopez took over the lead on lap 10. Points leader Bob Cramb began closing the gap on Lopez by the 14th lap, but lost ground after getting stuck behind a lapped car. With five to go, Cramb took over the lead, Lopez came in second. Will Hunholz, Ned Champine and Levitt rounded out the top five. The Late Model Road Runner 50 will be Saturday. Also featured will be Pro Stocks, Hornets and X-Mods.
