with it, as I know the Pinot won’t overpower the salmon. Pork grilled, roasted of pan seared leads me to enjoy a Chianti (if I am in a red wine mood) or Rhinewine (a blend of Reisling) if I am in the mood for white wine. Don’t forget that whatever wine you select with your meal should be one that you enjoy. I had the pleasure of meeting a couple last night at an event and she enjoyed telling me about how she loved our Kokopelli Chianti. After chatting for a bit, I suggested they make a nice bowl of pasta Bolognese or a Marinara and crack open that bottle of Kokopelli Chianti. Probably the most famous food & wine recommendation of all came from our good friend Hannibal Lecter

Wine Trivia Q: What two vegetables are best avoided when pairing food with wine?

Fall and Wine two great things about October

8

As I returned home last night from activities all over the valley, I enjoyed the 73 degree weather and a big bold cabernet sauvignon private reserve. All I could think of was that the summer heat wave was behind us and outdoor activities are picking up. This past weekend alone saw Oktoberfest, Taste in Chandler, Zoofari, concerts, etc. Don’t forget Halloween at the end of the month and the weekend before (October 23rd-25th) Kokopelli Winery (Chandler and Surprise) will host the 7th annual Kokopelli Krush (a grape crushing extravaganza), sponsored by Merecedes Benz of October 8th - October 14th, 2009

Chandler, Four Peaks Brewing, and the Downtown Chandler Community Partnership. Fall weather and wine just seem to be a perfect match for each other. With cooler weather we start to enjoy heartier foods that when paired with wine really create some fun for your pallet. We all think of Cabernet Sauvignon with a nice juicy steak, but what to serve with a hearty stew or soup? Why not enjoy a Pinot Noir or a fruit forward Merlot with that stew? If it is seafood based soup or stew then enjoy a Fume Blanc if it is white or a nice Kokopelli Desert Rose if it is Manhattan Clam Chowder. I am frequently asked what wine to serve with a certain type of dinner and I find the answer simple. If you know the color of the protein then try to match it with wine of roughly the same color. A light grilled sea bass beckons me to enjoy Chardonnay or a Pinot Grigio (white wines with white protein). If I am going to enjoy Salmon (a red or Pink fleshed fish) I will venture out and have Pinot Noir AZWeeklyMagazine.com

(Silence of the Lambs), when he suggested “liver and fava beans with a nice glass of Chianti”. I am not sure if Hannibal helped or hurt the historically Italian wine with that food pairing suggestion, but he was right on target with the pairing. So be open to trying new pairings and Bon Appetite and Salute. Oh and the trivia answer is: Asparagus and Artichoke hearts. Asparagus contains phosphorous and mercaptan: in combination with alcohol, these can produce a taste reminiscent of sewage. Artichokes contain an acid called cynarin, which causes wine to taste sweet.

To visit Zombieland, you should remember at least these four simple rules. Rule number one is “cardio.” You must be in great physical shape to outrun the zombies. Rule number two is the “double tap.” Just when you think a zombie is dead, it’s not. Make sure to shoot it twice. “Beware of bathrooms” is rule number three. Zombies lurk in the stalls. And the fourth basic rule, “wear your seatbelt.” If a zombie attacks the car, make sure you are buckled in.

NOW ON

Now that you know the rules, feel free to traverse the desolated spaces of Zombieland with Jesse Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin as they set out across the plagued ravaged American countryside looking for a safe zone.

“The Proposal”, one of the year’s best comedies! “Drag Me To Hell”, director’s cut! “Legend of the Seeker”, Season One!

This quite hilarious zombie farce is being called the American version of 2004’s Shaun of Dead. I personally think it was much funnier than Shaun and delivers much more heart, soul and character development. Think of it as a zombie movie, not about the zombies.

Eisenberg plays his usual character of the quietly funny, nerdy kid as Harrelson is perfectly cast as the renegade on the verge of a meltdown. Zombieland is a must for horror fans and should delight those looking for a good comedy (if you don’t mind a bit of gore).

“Couples Retreat”, a lighthearted look at relationships! Four Midwestern couples, experiencing the familiar “bumps in the road” in their relationships, head to a tropical island vacation that features a ‘couples retreat’ theme. Fun in the sun is what the couples expect, and the mayhem begins when they discover that participation in the resort’s couples therapy sessions is not optional, but mandatory! Starring Vince Vaughn, Kristen Bell, Jason Bateman, Jon Faveau, Kristin Davis, Ken Jeong, Faizon Love, Malin Akeman, Jean Reno, and Tasha Smith.

how he presents it. Adjectives such as egotistical, flamboyant, manipulating, heavy-handed, and even mistruths are used. I’m reminded of the same references often made to “60 Minutes”…. It’s the 20-year anniversary of his first documentary, “Roger & Me” (1989) which focused on General Motors and his hometown of Flint, Michigan. When one examines the focus of his documentaries, a surprising factor becomes apparent: whether one agrees or disagrees, they are issues that should be highlighted and addressed. The list and issues include “Sicko” (2007) the health care system, “Fahrenheit 9/11” (2004) agendas after the World Trade Center attack, and “Bowling

for Columbine” (2002) the on-going issue of gun control. With “Capitalism: A Love Story”, his focus is on the dominance of the corporate influence on the everyday lives of Americans, and by default, the rest of the world. With his basic theme throughout his documentaries of “Who are we and why we behave the way we do”, he takes his camera crew to ordinary people to capture their hardships, to Washington DC/government and the New York corporate giants for answers to the question of how did we, the most powerful country in the world and with the most dynamic economic structure of capitalism, find ourselves in such economic ruin and on the edge of a depression.

As always with Michael Moore’s documentaries, looking past the flamboyant and ambush style, you’ll walk away with the basics and a lot of food for thought on just how we as a country got into the economic situation we find ourselves in today. After all, isn’t that what a documentary’s intent is really all about… Written and Directed by Michael Moore; Rated PG-13 for brief strong language; Overture Films release; Runtime: 120 minutes.

“Capitalism: A Love Story”, tells it like it is, again! Review by Stan Robinson I’ve often said to those who may have adverse comments, views, or dislikes for Michael Moore’s style of documentary presentations, “If only 50% of what he is presenting is credible, we’re in trouble”. With careful examination, I’ve come to realize it’s not the content so much as it’s Michael Moore and AZWeeklyMagazine.com

Some Truly Frightening Paranormal Activity

“The Boys Are Back”, more than just another ‘guy flick’!

Some movies claim to be scary, others truly are. Paranormal Activity is not just scary, it’s downright frightening. So much so, reports have stated that preview audiences around the country have passed out, thrown up, or walked out due to the intensity.

Review by Stan Robinson

By Randy Montgomery

Despite being released by Dreamworks and Paramount Pictures, Paranormal Activity is a low-budget indie film, shot on a budget of around $15,000. It delivers what Hollywood studio films wish they could do; scare people. There is no blood, no guts and no masked killer. In fact… no villain is ever seen. What is not seen is what is most frightening. The terror strikes via noises, shadows and footprints. The movie is presented documentary style, and as it opens, Paramount Pictures thanks the San Diego Police Department for the footage you are about to watch. A young couple in a well-kept suburban San Diego home invests in an expensive video camera to document strange occurrences that take place in their bedroom once the lights go out. Katie and Micah (pronounced Meekuh) call in a psychic who warns them that the haunting is a demon, not a ghost and it is out to harm Katie for some unknown reason. Bringing in the professional and the tactics used to record the unknown entity angers it greatly. What is in store is as torturous for them as it is the audience. As the tension builds, you find yourself closer to the edge of your seat with your heart pounding faster and faster. Paranormal Activity debuted at the Screamfest Film Festival in Hollywood where it received rave reviews. It went on to play Slamdance where it was viewed by a studio executive at Dreamworks who recommended it to her boss, now with Paramount. Even more intriguing than the film itself, is the online buzz and creative social media marketing being done to promote the release. Instead of

12

October 8th - October 14th, 2009

spending big bucks to advertise and open wide, the studio has decided to make audiences “Demand It.” Opening in just a handful of theatres a few weeks ago, word of mouth buzz created frenzy in cyber space. The following week, cities were added based on number of votes to the website. The Phoenix metro area ranked near the top, scoring Harkins Theatres at Tempe Marketplace an exclusive 3-day screening. As this review is being written plans to add theatres have not been released, but rest assured, Paranormal Activity will expand rapidly and be extremely successful. Give director Oren Peli an Oscar nomination right now for creating what is easily not one, but many of the most spine-tingling moments ever in a theatre. With numerous scenes that will literally HAUNT you, expect to be kept up at night after seeing it. While you are at it, go ahead and throw in a Best Actress and Actor nomination as well. Katie and Micah’s performances are chilling. As I am typing away, an e-mail just came through from my friend that attended last night’s midnight screening with me. She wrote, “Thanks… for a restless night of sleep! LOL I feel asleep with the TV on I was so freaked and I did not even watch all the scary parts!” I hate to admit to her that I was just as freaked, but guess what… I just bought tickets to go see it again tonight. Words really cannot describe the experience. Move over The Exorcist and The Shining you have been outdone (and without a budget). AZWeeklyMagazine.com

There’s the familiar terms of “Chick Flick” which usually signals a movie appealing to women with romantic or sentimental story lines. And, “Guy Flick” with the connotation of action attached to it. “The Boys Are Back” is a ‘guy flick’. Take away action from the equation, and this ‘guy flick’ is a moving, selfexamination for all of us guys out there who are parents, and lessons for those who will be. Clive Owen, who stars as the central character, has always been a favorite of mine as an action actor who brings depth to each of his roles. His recent action performances in “Duplicity” (2009), “The International” (2009), “Children of Men” (2006), and “Inside Man” (2006) are among my favorites. Actor Clive Owen was also my first choice for the next James Bond when the role became available and ultimately went to Daniel Craig. “The Boys Are Back” demonstrates once again, the emotional depth of the Shakespearean trained actor of both stage and screen. Joe Warr (Clive Owen) is a busy father and husband. He’s a top sports writer and spends a good amount of time away from home (in Australia) covering the major sporting events of the world. He has two sons. From his present marriage, he has a curious and precocious six year old (Nicholas McAnulty), and from a previous marriage, a rebellious teenager who lives in England with his mother who’s pregnant with a child from her current relationship. Joe is a loving parent and when he comes home, it’s a joyous time. With that aspect, his wife has taken the lead in the day-to-day nurturing of their child. Joe is also working to bridge a widening gap with his teenage son (George MacKay) in England as he tries to cope with the coming halfbrother and his relationship with his mother.

Tragedy sets in when Joe learns that his wife is terminally ill. His world is turned upside down when he is now a single parent and discovers the other side of being a parent, is being a father. Just when Joe is beginning to gain some ground juggling his career, raising his young son, and trying to move past the death of his wife, his teenage son arrives from England. Joe becomes acutely aware that the relationship between his ex-wife and teenage son is at that crossroad of becoming permanently broken. “The Boys Are Back” is a powerfully presented film that examines the dynamics of three generations of males coming to terms with their inner feelings and re-connecting with each other as a family. There’s the saying, “Not a dry eye in the house”, which says a lot for the male of the species when those ‘wet eyes’ are men, including mine. A “guy flick”, absolutely, in the truest sense of the word… “The Boys Are Back”, starring Clive Owen, Laura Fraser, George MacKay, Emma Booth, Erik Thomson, and Nicholas McAnulty. Directed by Scott Hicks; written by Allan Cubitt; Rated PG-13 for some sexual language and thematic elements. Miramax Films release; Runtime: 104 Minutes.

Owner Kevin Dettler is an elite big-game hunter — one of fewer than 120 people in the world who’ve bagged the Safari Club International’s “North American 29,” all the big-game species found on the continent.

So the wild game is limited to a few regular menu items — such as buffalo and elk meatloaf ($13) and antelope sausage ($13) — and ever-changing weekend specials created by chef Rob Bowser. Last weekend’s special was red deer. This weekend, it’s rabbit.

And all 29 of the part-time Gilbert resident’s trophies — from bison to polar bear to musk ox — are on display at Trophy’s. Everywhere you look in the elegant restaurant are horns, claws and teeth. In the center of the 3,000-square-foot dining room, five huge bears stalk diners. Behind the polished granite bar, four majestic sheep keep watch on a rocky outcropping.

The brothers are toying with future menu ideas ranging from bear to rattlesnake. One thing is certain. East Valley residents are always up for a taste of adventure. The filet and ribeye are Trophy’s two top sellers, but the buffalo and elk meatloaf is the third-most-popular item on the menu. Now if the Dettlers could just get curious diners to follow the “No Touching” signs and stop trying to pet the grizzly bear or gray wolf. “The kids are actually pretty good about it,” Kiel Dettler laughs. “The adults are the ones you have to watch.”

Wild game is showcased not just on the walls but also on the menu, although about three-fourths of the offerings are traditional steakhouse fare, such as steaks, chicken and seafood.

This Week’s Special

7215 S Power Rd,

Valley diners are in for a special treat. Outstanding food aside, Trophy’s steakhouse offers a truly unique experience with décor in a setting that is second to none.

“We weren’t sure what we wanted to do with the wild game,” says Dettler’s son Kiel, who runs Trophy’s with his brother, Brett. “It can get rather expensive doing wild game. When you get into kangaroo and llama, you’re definitely looking at more money per ounce.”

Germann

AZ WeeklyMagazine.com

Given the opulent surroundings, Trophy’s prices are surprisingly affordable. You won’t find any $175 steaks here. With the exception of a special 24-ounce bone-in ribeye ($37), all of the 6- to 12-ounce premium steaks are less than $25. And that includes baked potato and vegetable.

Trophy’s Steakhouse 7215 S. Power Road, Queen Creek (northeast corner of Power and Rittenhouse roads) 3:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Appetizers $7-$9, salads $7-$8, burgers $8-$10, entrees $13-$24, desserts $4-$6 (480) 840-3981 or trophyssteakhouse.com

CLUB! SECTION

TIME AGAIN FOR YOUR ALTER EGO TO COME OUT AND PLAY Halloween has always been a very interesting and exciting time of the year, not only for children but for adults as well. Many adults love the idea of dressing up for Halloween. Whether it is for passing out candy, attending a Halloween Ball or hitting the perfect club with friends, having the perfect costume to compliment your persona always sets the stage for a fun and fantastic time. Here in Phoenix, Halloween is as popular as ever, particularly for us grown folks. Adults are able to find just the right Halloween costume, year after year, despite being older and bigger than the little ones. And the closer we get to the 31st, the more lively and energetic the party becomes.

Halloween only comes one night of the year, and this gives many adults the opportunity to indulge their alter ego, publicly. It is an enchanting night set aside especially for play and fantasy. Finding the best Halloween costume is part of acting out an alter ego. Whether a man wants to pretend to be Darth Vader or a sexy vampire, or if a woman prefers to be a Goddess or a football player, sexy Halloween costuming offers them the opportunity to be childlike once more. In these modern times both men and women are able to find the perfect costume to enact their fantasy of pent up aggressions to the world at large for at least one night of the year. Many work places feature dressing up for

Halloween, as this also gives relief from the daily grind. Today adult Halloween costumes come in a wide assortment of choices, from prehistoric to out of this world. Besides, as adults we need a little fun and stress-free time to keep us well-balanced. The perfect adult Halloween costume is an aid in the process of role-playing while indulging the child inside us all to come out and play, even if for just one night. So get out there, do some clubbing, bar and party hopping, and be whatever you shall be.

A FUN AND EFFICIENT APPROACH TO DATING SpeedDate Phoenix - A Popular Dating Option for Arizona Professional Singles The newest, no-pain dating game rage to hit the Valley is SpeedDatePhoenix.com. With two convenient locations and a unique focus on the Arizona market, SpeedDate Phoenix is positioned to become the leading dating service in Arizona. Many professionals find it a desirable shortcut to multitudes of individual dates, something for which they just don’t have the time for. At a cost that is a fraction of one night out, participants meet up to 12 potential date partners in less than two hours and are given six minutes with each person to decide whether or not they would like to have future communication, or spend more time on a regular date. This face-to-face, chemistry-driven formula is the primary reason for SpeedDate’s success. “There is definitely plenty of quality with the unique service. I didn’t feel I was in a meat market and am so happy with the man I met. Thanks to SpeedDate Phoenix, we found each other.” Just one of many positive comments owners Bob Wickes and Jason Reis have received.

28

October 8th - October 14th, 2009

Events are held at various upscale venues around the valley. Reservations are recommended in order to keep the number of men and women balanced. “We are successful because we are a great replacement to the bar scene and to the misrepresentations that may be found in online dating. The busy single professionals appreciate the fact that they can have up to 12 “Mini-Dates” in one fun-filled evening. Our 2008 Match Success Rate is 92.98%”, says Bob Wickes, CEO Speed Date Phoenix. Speed dating, which is sweeping the nation, is fueled by the proliferation and popularity of dating-related reality TV shows. Marketdata, a Tampa, FL, based market research firm estimates the dating services market to be over a $1.08 billion business in the U.S serving over 92 Million dating aged singles. Although online dating makes up a large portion of the dating services market, offline dating options like speed dating and other live events continue to grow in popularity due to their more personalized face-toface nature. For more information and to register for upcoming events at either location, visit: www.SpeedDatePhoenix.com (480) 998-8600 www.SpeedDateMetro.com (623) 936-0000 AZ WeeklyMagazine.com

Oh my, my, my, my. There is just so much going on in the PHX my head is about to explode. Where should I go? What should I do? It’s all just too much. Wait, maybe if I write a few things down on paper and share them with you, my vision will be clearer. If that doesn’t work, I’ll have a couple of cocktails. For all that happened, is happening and will happen in the Valley, read on. We’re on Twitter too--@bdiggs and @ myFEmy. Uncorked & Unplugged: Ready for one of the best taste events and benefits in the Valley? Uncorked and Unplugged will be taking place Sunday, October 18, at Desert Ridge Marketplace starting at 6:00 p.m. Uncorked and Unplugged, which benefits the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale is an orgy of food, music and beverage. Featured beverages include wines from Chalone Vineyards, Rosenblum Cellars, and Sterling Vintner’s Collection. Plus there variety of beers, martini bar hosted by Blue Martini and a margarita bar by San Felipes. Local restaurants offering tastes from their menus include Bill Johnson’s Big Apple Restaurants, Brio Tucson Grille, Cholla Prime Steakhouse & Lounge, Grimaldi’s, The Melting Pot, Pearl Sushi Lounge & Bomber Bar, Roy’s, and the Yard House. Of course and unplugged event wouldn’t be complete without music and featured bands include Rock Lobster, DJ William Reed, The Love Me Nots and featured performers from Casino Arizona’s Showstoppers Live! Tickets start at $125 for the Main Event and $200 for Main Event and Post Party, and discount tickets are available at all Valley BevMo locations (remember it’s a benefit!) Another cool this is that there will be free cab rides home for all attendees compliments of Hensley & Company and Scottsdale Insurance Company. For more info and tix visit uncorkedandunplugged.org Mike Mercier: Veteran Phoenix musician Mike Mercier, who has fronted a number of popular local acts, is having a CD release party for his original album “A Lesson in What Not to Do” at Martini Ranch on October 16th. The night will be a great celebration of Phoenix music as popular bands Delcoa will be opening and EastonAshe closing with Mercier featured in the middle. Doors are at 9:00 p.m. and the $10 cover will get you the CD. Can’t beat all of that so get out and listen to and support some GREAT local music. RA Party: Who wants to do RA for a good cause? The popular sushi place with multiple Valley locations is hosting a “Mad Hatter’s Sake-TeaNi” 12th Anniversary Party on Thursday, Oct. 15 from 7:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. at their Old Town location. The party, based on “Alice in Wonderland,” will feature all sorts of nutty hats,

flavored hookahs, dance music and themed décor throughout the restaurant. DJ Convince will spin a mix of rock and hip hop from 8 to 11 p.m., there’ll be a crazy hat contest and games of “pin the grin on the Cheshire Cat.” So what about the food and drink specials? Food specials include a Wonderland Roll ($6), Smokin’ Caterpillar Roll ($9), and Cheshire Roll ($10). Drink specials, which are all $6 include The White Rabbit, Mad Hatter’s Long Island Iced Tea, Blushing Alice, Queen of Hearts Punch, and Wonderland Mojito. You get the idea, right? Oh yeah, the best part is that $2 from every food and drink purchase will go directly to Cardon Children’s Medical Center (formerly Banner Children’s Hospital at Banner Desert Medical Center)so get out there and support a great cause. For more info visit rasushi.com. Spiked at DBG: The thought of someone spiking your drinks is scary, but the thought of the Desert Botanical Gardens doing it sounds tasty. Every Thursday in October and the first Thursday in November from 6 – 8 p.m., the Desert Botanical Gardens will be hosting Spiked Thursdays. Weekly the events will showcase a different creative cocktail, heavy hors d’oeurves, a cash bar, and live entertainment in one of the DBG’s unique venues. Tickets are $20 for members of the gardens and $25 no nonmembers. The peeps at DBG have creatively paired the evening’s featured cocktail to complement the evening’s featured musical selection, or vice versa. For instance this week’s Spiked live performance is by the Thankful Birds, a lounge, blues, Indie music group, while the featured cocktail is a cranberry margarita, a sophisticated version of an old classic. Learn how to get Spiked here, www.dbg.org. TFMF: If your looking for something to get into this weekend head down to Tucson for the fifth annual Tucson Film & Music Festival taking place October 9-11. Friday night’s Opening Night Party Extravaganza at Hotel Congress will kick off the music festivities. Breakdown began in the early part of the year 2000. After being labeled a “Tom Petty” look alike, Scott (who plays and looks amazingly like Tom Petty), decided maybe this was an avenue worth looking at. With long time friends Eric (Guitar) Mike (Drummer) and Ricky (Bass), They set out to put together a show to be remembered. The rest is shall we say “history”. These musicians form the core of Breakdown and combined have almost 75 years in the music industry. They have been playing professionally together in this and other tribute shows since the 90’s. Collectively they bring a re-creation of the Tom Petty experience with an accuracy rivaled only by Tom himself. This show includes all the look and AZWeeklyMagazine.com

FINDING THE RIGHT STOCK INVESTMENT PLAN In the present scenario, where economy is playing hide and seek kind of role, financial security is a must for every individual. It’s a broad category, but in terms of funds, financial security means investment and the profits you are going to reap in future. Look at the market and you will find various investment options. Sometimes it becomes difficult to choose the right plan. However, trading is another investment option that not only provides good return, but also no limitations unlike other investment plans. But, as we all know, the stock market is an everchanging entity. In order to draw benefits from it, we require technical analysis - that will ensure your success in the market. Unfortunately, many of us don’t go for such analysis and start investing blindly. On the other hand, many of us are drawing profits from the same market, but with a different attitude and strategy. Why one person becomes a successful trader and another an unsuccessful trader? Once you understand the difference between this thin line, you are bound to get success from your investment plan. There are several points that need to be considered before you start trading: Financial strength: First of all, you need to analyze your financial strength - how much you want to invest. If you are a new trader, you can start with small funds. Once you make money, you can add more funds in your investment plan. Financial experts: Investment is not an easy task. Therefore, proper planning is a must. If you are aware of the market trends and are experienced in trading, then you can plan without taking any help. However, if you are new and want some help, you can consult with financial experts - they are available online and provide best investment plan advice.

34

Comprehensive market knowledge: Good market knowledge is a must for a successful trader. There are various information options available on the Internet. Be sure to read the latest October 8th - October 14th, 2009

Are You Ready For The Next Downturn? news, articles and blogs to keep you abreast of the market moods. You also need to be familiar with various terms that are often used in the market. Online stock broker: Since we cannot trade directly, it’s your broker who does all kinds of trading and in return charges a very minimal amount of commission. He is the link between the trader and the stock market. Therefore, you should have a good broker who can advise you properly and keep you informed of the most profitable company shares. Technical analysis: A comprehensive analysis of the volatile market is a must. You need to analyze the price trends of stocks in the last 3 to 5 days. On this basis you can further predict the market mood. However, this analysis does not always work, but still it gives us an idea about the market. Positive attitude: It’s not about your attitude; but your attitude towards the market. People who often consider the market as a risky platform influence many of us and form a negative attitude about the market. In that very situation, even if you are on the right track, you may make a wrong decision. Therefore, it is necessary to be optimistic and try to believe in yourself. The ability to understand the market and to adjust in the changing circumstances is one of the key factors of successful trading. Once you get familiar with the market moods, you can reap the benefits in the best possible way. So, invest now and build a strong financial backup for a truly successful future.

REAL MEN WEAR PINK NFL ON BOARD FOR BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

If you’re going to watch NFL games during the month of October, you’ll be seeing much more pink than normal. Not pink like rosy cheeks or Pink the singer, but rather pink purposefully incorporated into the game itself. This month the NFL is collaborating with the American Cancer Society on a program called “A Crucial Catch: Annual Screening Saves Lives.” The spokespersons for this initiative are Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald and Tanya Snyder, wife of Dan Snyder, owner of the Washington Redskins. Both were chosen because of their close ties to breast cancer. Snyder has suffered

When you look at the different grades side by side you will clearly see the difference in the appearance alone, but the true test is how they perform on the table. Cast Phenolic Balls are more expensive ($100-$300), but well worth it if you are a dye hard player like me. If you are buying them for the kids and the occasional party, then the lower priced balls will work just fine. I am a firm believer in not spending money unnecessarily, so buy the balls that best suit your billiard needs. Your local Billiard Store can show you the differences. Until next time, whatever balls your choose, you still have to shoot em’ straight.

The highest quality Billiard Balls are made of Cast Phenolic Resins, are solid and the numbers are inlaid all the way through the ball. If you were to put a torch to a Cast Phenolic ball it would not melt as would a plastic/ polymer ball.

Like anything else, there are different grades of quality in Billiard Balls. The lower priced balls are made out of plastic polymers or polyester. These range from $30- $80. The price differences in this category result from several production processes. The lower priced balls are not solid. They have a separate core surrounded by polyester and the numbers are only inlaid partially into the ball. The higher priced balls in this category are solid all the way through as are the inlaid numbers in some cases; but in both cases, the finish and roundness are not as precise as the more expensive balls. In addition, plastic/polymer balls can leave burn marks on your felt as they heat up during play on fast shots. Finally, these balls do not hold there luster over time, the finish will become dull and they chip much easier.

The finish is substantially better and can be maintained over time by polishing them. They do not leave burn marks on your felt, and are almost perfectly true to round. They are also chip resistant. These are the balls the Pro’s play with and the difference is noticeable. Cast Phenolic Resin balls are made in Belgium by Aramith. Aramith also make the Brunswick Centennial ball.

MUSE – THE RESISTANCE (WARNER BROS.) If you’re not familiar with Muse, this is a good time to get acquainted, particularly if you enjoy the works of Queen and U2. Not quite fitting the norm of what other bands do, Muse carefully executes songs with their own sound while weaving in influences of the aforementioned bands. Sure, at times you may think to yourself that Freddie Mercury or Bono may have lent a hand in crafting a melody here and there. To quote Ritchie Blackmore “amateurs borrow, professionals steal.” And if thievery is the highest form of flattery, then so be it. That being said, Muse doesn’t exactly sound like Queen or U2, but there are moments where the influence shows through.

Are You Smarter Than A Nobel Prize Winner?

Let’s face it, most of us think we’re pretty well read and pretty darn smart. But not too many of us have won a Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine, and that is why I want to introduce you to Dr. Otto Warburg.

Dr. Otto Warburg 1931 Nobel Prize Laureate Dr. Warburg won the 1931 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine for his work during the 1920s on the then relatively unknown and mysterious disease called cancer. He successfully identified the root cause of cancer, and discovered that cancer cells, unlike normal cells, thrive in an anaerobic, acidic state rather than an oxygen rich, high pH environment. In fact, he discovered that cancer cannot grow in a high alkaline, oxygen rich environment at all. Think about this for a minute. This means we have known what causes cancer for over 78 years, but if this is true, why don’t we learn this fact in every high school biology class in America? Why don’t the cancer treatment centers, oncologists or cancer related charities shout this knowl-

edge from the rooftops? Why isn’t there a warning from the Surgeon General on every bottle or can of soft drinks or sports drinks sold in America? They are extremely acidic, after all, and can cause great damage to humans by helping to create an extremely acidic environment inside the body. And why isn’t there anything being done to tell every American to alkalize their body before it is too late? The good news is that there IS something being done to spread this news, and even more importantly, I have recently discovered an incredible way to achieve an alkaline balanced body that is simple, fast, and easy!

Change Your Water and Change Your Life! Can it really be as easy to create an alkaline balanced body as drinking a different kind of water every day? Yes! But only if it is the right kind of water, made fresh in your own kitchen every day from your very own powerful water processing machine.

Micro-Clustered for Maximum Absorption and Hydration After passing through one of these amazing machines, your water will be micro-clustered, which means it is the most effective water in the world when it comes to hydrating each and every one of the approximately 70 Trillion cells in your body. The vast majority of Americans are chronically dehydrated, which leads to a myriad of health challenges and concerns.

Every person I know wants to because of the extremely acidic lead a healthy, happy, active life, conditions of our bodies. but many people simply aren’t Alkalize or Die! Have you or someone you know been diagnosed with breast cancer? If so, here’s some good news... The Arizona Institute for Breast Health provides a 2nd opinion for treatment options to women who have been recently diagnosed with breast cancer – COMPLETELY FREE OF CHARGE. Each 2nd opinion is provided through a multi-disciplinary panel of breast cancer specialists and each patient is supported and lovingly guided by a patient advocate, a breast cancer survivor herself. You can help support AIBH by sponsoring Pink Honor Lights through The Pink Light District. These pink lights will glow throughout October on the Canal Bridge in downtown Scottsdale in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. To sponsor your Pink Honor Lights, visit www.ThePinkLightDistrict.org
