By Nicholas Connell A Raisin in the Sun opened this weekend at the Herberger Theatre in downtown Phoenix, displaying a passionate intensity that is rarely felt or explored in the Arizona community. When Act II had finished, the audience was standing; a tribute to a story and production worthy of more than an ovation! This was a production staged by Arizona Theatre Company in a co-production with The Cleveland Play House and Penumbra Theatre Company from St. Paul, Minnesota. Lou Bellamy, Penumbra’s Founder and Artistic Director, directed this powerhouse story with color and daring, pushing the envelope on every issue of conflict that Lorraine Hansberry penciled in this Tony-nominated play from 1960. Rich and poor, black and white, givers and takers, insiders and outsiders, men and women, pride and shame, love and fear, right and wrong, hate and forgiveness, God and faith, life and death; all wrapped around an ensemble cast facing life challenges of love, money, prejudice, and the dream of home ownership. What a gem Mr. Bellamy has delivered! Leading the Younger family in this story set in Chicago in the 1950’s is Franchelle Stewart Dorn as Lena Younger, a strong

and determined matriarch. Franchelle was fire and faith throughout the night, reminding every soul that “there is still God in her house”. Adding to the mix of dreamers in this house of faith is David Allan Anderson as Walter Lee Younger. David was impressive as Walter, taking time to think and drink his way through the conflicts imbedded in his life. Supporting him and challenging his identity is Erika La Vonn as his wife, Ruth Younger. Erika was a diamond with edges and angles to match Walter’s emotions all night. Bakesta King was marvelous as Beneatha Younger, Walter’s younger sister, who ushered us through the highs and lows of a young African woman trying to make her dreams come true in the new America. Aric Generette Floyd is a flash of light as Walter’s young son, Travis. There are also great supporting performances by Adeoye as Joseph Asagai, the Nigerian suitor of Beneatha; Kyle Harden as George Murchison, the wealthy boyfriend of Beneatha; and Patrick Thomas O’Brien as Karl Linder, the community housing leader. This production is a fine example of Arizona Theatre Company’s ability to deliver stellar drama during a time of great challenges and uncertainty. Wendy and Lucy is a Modern Story of Friendship By Stan Robinson

Wendy and Lucy is that small, independent, quiet film that lingers long after leaving the theater. Lucy (Michelle Williams) is a young student who sets out on the long drive to well-paying summer job. With all the money she can put together for the trip, she sets out with her good friend, her dog Lucy. When her car breaks down and her dog is taken to the local pound in a small town, Wendy realizes the futility of her financial situation. Tough choices are abundant as she faces a series of escalating economic

A brilliant and pious daughter of an ultra orthodox rabbi finds herself at a crossroads when her mother dies and she is expected to immediately marry her father’s protégé. She begs her father to allow her one year to study at a women’s religious seminary, the birthplace of the Kabala, in order to prepare herself for the sacrifices she will make as a wife. When she meets a beautiful, mysterious older woman who is ill, she devises a series of rituals which will somehow “purify” and purge the older woman of her sins, which stretch the borders of Jewish law and must be kept secret. The Secrets is in Hebrew and French with English subtitles.

Paramount Pictures chose not to hold an advance press screening for their latest installment of Friday the 13th series for critics. This should not come as a surprise. The previous eleven weren’t exactly critical successes, yet managed to draw in a loyal, cult audience. Whether a horror film fan or not, Jason Voorhees is a household name across the U.S. and the world. The iconic hockey maskwearing psychopath is as recognizable as the Golden Arches and the Statue of Liberty, despite the sick and twisted acts the imagery evokes. Jason is more famous than his Nightmare on Elm St. counterpart, Freddy, and the knifewheeling Halloween killer, Michael Meyers. Jason claims the title of starring in the most films, as there have been ten Friday the 13th films, with the eleventh being released this Friday, February 13th. Jason also appeared in Freddy vs. Jason, an maniacal film pitting the two characters against each other. With a total of twelve films under his belt, Jason is the clear winner, as Freddy Krueger and Michael Meyers each have nine films in their repertoire. Critics unofficially stop counting (and reviewing) after the third installment. Jason Voorhees drowned at Camp Crystal Lake as a boy after camp counselors weren’t paying attention. Decades later, he came back and has been terrorizing campers ever since. Of course, over the years, Jason has been killed on numerous occasions, but has come back to continue his reign if terror. It is ironic that Friday the 13th falls one day prior to Valentine’s Day this year. If you are alone, grab your buddies and throw an anti-cupid celebration, or grab your loved one and hold on tight.

Digital Dave Rates the Best Virus/Spyware Protection If you are looking to upgrade the security on your computer, I have some effective recommendations for virus/spyware security suites. Since I run a tech shop, we are constantly asked what to use for virus protection. This week I will cover which security suites are the best to protect your computer and won’t bog it down in the process. When we are evaluating a security suite, the important things that we look at are protection and performance. By running test scripts on various activities such as boot time, scanning, compressing/uncompressing files, media file conversions (such as ripping an MP3), and web browsing, we can determine which security suites perform the best. Protection includes firewalls and antivirus/ antispyware identification and removal capability.

Norton Internet Security 2009 ($59.99/yr for 3 PCs)

Security suites certainly change over the years, as I wouldn’t recommend any of Norton’s prior products. Symantec (owner of Norton) really focused on performance over the past year and redesigned their engine; what a difference it has made. They have made the interface much easier to use and it is super simple. This product wins my ‘Digital Dave Recommendation’ as it has the best performance and the best security at a reasonable price. The only downside to this product is you will need a different product to protect you from SPAM (See last week’s article and install Cloudmark Desktop).

Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 ($59.95/yr for 3 PCs)

Kaspersky has been in the Virus/Spyware market for many yearsm and they always have put out a quality product. Their new 2009 version of internet protection cleans up the user interface and makes smart security choices without bothering the user. While scoring solidly on the protection scale, the performance lags behind other suites. If you have an older PC, go with one of the top three in the performance category. If you are using the free McAfee Total Protection from Cox, it is time to upgrade. That product scored near the bottom for protection in the testing of over fifteen security packages, and performance was dismal.

Trend Micro Internet Security Pro 2009 ($69.95/yr for 3 PCs)

Second place goes to Trend Micro. This is a solid product and a big improvement over last year’s version. The virus/spyware removal is top notch with relatively few annoying pop-ups to bother users while they are working. In addition, the parental controls are better than most of the suites, and the SPAM filter is top-notch. If you can’t handle moving to a Norton product, this suite is an adequate alternative. A little pricier than Norton, but the added Pro features and SPAM protection makes it well worth the $10 bucks.

Substation

Aka Jay Bitsue substation@DesertTrance.com Myspace.com/substationTrance www.substation-music.com

and away from my gear. DJ Nth, you’re my hero!

Where and when do you spin? I perform live electronic dance music with hardware electronic instruments (synthesizers, drum machines, etc.), and consider myself an ‘electronic musician’ as opposed to a DJ. When I play live, more often than not, it’ll be at a rave somewhere in the Valley. But when I DJ, you can find me spinning vinyl every so often at cool club nights in Scottsdale, or downtown Phoenix at ‘FUSE’ on Friday nights at Bar Smith. How did you get started in the industry? Many moons ago in the late 80s; it was a natural progression from throwing high school dances and DJ’ing to acquiring electronic instruments. This propelled me to start producing dance music and eventually opening up for silly late 80’s synth-pop groups like Book of Love. What’s the funniest thing that ever happened while performing? This goes hand-in-hand with the dumbest thing that has ever happened while performing: A couple of year ago, I’m playing live at a desert rave when some drunk idiot comes up from behind me and starts plucking away at one of my keyboards during my set! I nearly pelted him, but my friend Paul (DJ Nth) thankfully pulled him back

Tell us a secret about yourself or your show: I’m a ‘pop songwriter’ masquerading as a trance producer! What’s the biggest misconception people have about DJs? DJ’s are a dime a dozen. It’s true so I guess that wouldn’t be a misconception! In this day and age, as a DJ (or musician), it takes MORE than talent to make it. It’s all fun & games ‘til you’ve cleared the dance floor with a poorly mixed and/or programmed set. Strive for excellence, not perfection. Listen to the music you love and your heart will follow. What will people hear when they listen to your music? These days, most of the music I produce and play live is called trance, with occasional helpings of acid techno and electro house. Electronic dance music in general is pretty much all instrumental. I love the craft of songwriting and consider myself to be a ‘Melody Man’ as opposed to a ‘Sonic Terrorist’. I would like to think my tunes were on the uplifting/funkier side of things. If there were a “Golden Rule” for being a DJ, what would it be? Don’t forget your headphones! Used to be I’d get asked all the time by DJs to use my headphones because they had forgotten theirs. It sucks to get headphones back

that are soaked in someone else’s sweat and it’s your time to play… ugh! Your favorite place to play? Playing live at raves in Arizona to California, to playing the occasional gig at one of the coolest club nights in Scottsdale, called ‘SWITCH’ on Wednesday nights at the Pussycat Lounge. Thumbs-up to DJs Tranzit and Michael James for making this night supremely fun and an allaround success! As a musician, playing live ANYWHERE is the bomb, and does not at all compare to spinning records, CDs or MP3’s. Feeling the vibe of the crowd dancing to the pulsing electronic rhythms all the while being immersed in the lush melodic sounds of trance is a thing of beauty! If you could change one thing about the DJ-club scene, what would it be? Become the change that you want to see. Ask NOT what your scene can do for you, ask what YOU can do for your scene! To quote Rev. Jesse Jackson, “There is only one instance where it is justified to look down at someone: If a person has fallen, stop, look down, then lift them up.” What would you be doing if you weren’t DJing? I’d be working for my own covert operations, Substation Electronics, trying to get my new product up and running and ready for action: A dream-to-MIDI converter!

The Night Owl If you have an entertainment event or item to include in “The Night Owl” send to brent.diggins@azweeklymagazine.com “The Night Owl” will cover restaurants, clubs, bars, celebrities, music and other miscellaneous events.

BY BRENT DIGGINS AND EFIA MOORE

What a big week! The NBA All-Star game is here and celebrities and athletes will be packing the Valley’s clubs, restaurants, and hotels yet again. Plus, there is the game itself, and it’s Valentine’s Day. With so much going on, we’ll get right to it so keep reading to find out what happened, what’s happening, and what will happen in our home, the Valley of the Sun.

Dinner for Two, Part 1: Around town many restaurants will be featuring special Valentine’s Day menus. Wright’s at the Biltmore will feature a four-course menu from 5:30pm to 10:00pm prepared by Chef de Cuisine Conor Favre. The dinner will set you back $90 per person, but includes a glass of Moet & Chandon champagne and a rose for the sexies.

NBA All-Star Weekend: As promised, we have the inside track to all of the NBA All-Star weekend’s hottest parties for the weekend of Thursday, February 12th – Sunday, February 15th:

Dinner for Two, Part 2: There is something about feeding your date that is primal and sexy, and for some people, it just works. However, there are only a few dishes where feeding another person works, and sushi is one of them. Sushi Roku at the W Scottsdale is having a prix fixe menu for $100 per person. Take in some signature starters and choose a sushi variety or a full dish for the main course. The price includes champagne and chocolate, and if you are planning to make an entire night of it, well, you are already at the W so you won’t have to wander far.

Barcelona in Scottsdale will have events throughout the weekend, kicking-off with Lebron James and Allen Iverson’s All StarTip Off Party on Thursday. Friday night’s Playboy Magazine will host its March 2009 Issue Release Party; and Saturday night Snoop Dogg will be hosting the evening. Hit up www. barcelonaarizona.com for party details. Further south in Scottsdale, Club Rain will feature Baby Bash and Nina Sky on Thursday night. Friday night, Snoop Dogg will be the special guest, followed by Chris Brown on Saturday and Busta Rhymes on Sunday night. Visit www.myspace.com/clubrainaz for more info. Scottsdale’s SugarDaddy’s will also have HipHop guests, including Young Jeezy on Thursday, Ludacris on Saturday, and DipSet rapper Jim Jones Sunday. Check out www.sugardaddysaz. com for more info.

Kenny “The Jet” Smith will be hosting a variety of charity events featuring all sorts of celebrities and athletes. On Friday the 13th, he’ll be hosting the “Kenny Smith Celebrity Golf Classic” at the SunRidge Canyon Golf Club at 8:00am, where you can find a number of famous-folk. Then on Friday night, from 9:00pm – 3:00am, the Jet will host the 7th Annual Kenny Smith AllStar Bash presented by Imperial Community Bank at The Wrigley Mansion Club. This may be the must attend event of the All-Star weekend. New York City DJs Biz Markie and S&S will spin as more than 1,000 special invited guests enjoy the views and party down. Remember to party safe and responsibly, and if you follow us on Twitter, attach a Twitpic or two! Valentine’s Day: El dia de amor, Valentine’s Day is upon us. While some of us will be cementing relationships and trying to catch the fluttering love of someone, others will be rolling solo looking to capture other singles or keep our independence intact. Here’s a few Valentines events that span the spectrum:

At the Club: Many of the singles will be hitting clubs for Valentine’s Day, and there is no better day because most people there will probably be unattached and looking for love. For a sexy Valentine’s Day, go to the Cherry Lounge and Pit where burlesque troupe b will be performing. This acrobatic, entertaining show starts at 10pm with performers of both sexes. At the Bar: Did you just have a break up? Nothing to rub salt in the wounds like Valentine’s Day, so you may want to drink your troubles into oblivion. Head to Mickey’s Hangover where they are hosting their eighth annual “Love Stinks” party featuring $3 drinks all night. Maybe you’ll meet another broken-hearted for a nice rebound. Get a Room!: Why not take your special someone to one of our world-renowned resorts for a night of romance? Valley resorts feature great restaurants, great amenities and of plenty of ambience. One that catches my eye, and will win you over is the Boulders Golden Door Resort and Spa’s special “A Bolder Love” package. This includes an awesome casita, a couple’s massage, Champagne dinner for two in stylish restaurant Latilla, and access to the awardwinning Golden Door Spa, which means you can indulge in the adult pool, steam rooms and Niwa pool. Night Owls on Twitter: Who’s on Twitter? Know a great restaurant, club, bar or event? Let me know and follow us (and see what we do) @ bdiggs and @mindspazzer. Do it now and sign up. We talk about everything Phoenix. Be safe, be a good person. Till next time…

“Not only must Justice be done; it must also be seen to be done. . .”

By Kevin Breger, Esq. www.TheAZCriminalLawyer.com

Gina and Derrick had been companions, friends, and lovers for over 10 years. They shared a home in Phoenix and both had good careers. This all changed when Derrick started having an affair. Gina, who was devastated and never wanted to see Derrick again, kicked him out of their joint home. All Derrick’s worldly possessions were still in the house and he wanted to get them back. He also wanted to talk to Gina about their situation. One Saturday afternoon, Derrick drove to their house and remained in his car which was parked on the street. Gina noticed Derrick in his car and came out of the house and onto the drive. Derrick got out of his car and approached Gina indicating that he wanted to speak with her. He was in no way aggressive or acting in a threatening manner. Gina pushed Derrick against the garage door and grabbed his neck. Their neighbor, who witnessed this incident called the police. If only Gina were not holding a gun as she did this. . . Mind you, she did not point the gun at him or use it in a threatening way, nor was there any history of violence between them; nevertheless, she found herself charged with aggravated assault, a class 3 felony, and if convicted she was looking at a minimum of 5 years in prison.

Fact or fiction? Although some details and the identities of the individuals have been changed to protect those involved, the above anecdote is based on a real case that took place in Arizona. This case was aggressively prosecuted by the prosecutorial agency in the name of justice. Ultimately, Gina went to prison.1 Justice? You be the judge. . . 1 It should be noted that Kevin Breger was NOT the defense attorney representing the individual in this case.

Neither Gina nor Derrick, who were both in their early 40’s, had ever been in trouble with the law before.

Kevin Breger is the principal attorney at The Law Offices of Kevin Breger, PLLC. Mr. Breger focuses exclusively on criminal law and DUI representation and can be reached at 602-682-5582 or at kbreger@bregerlaw. com. Remember if you do email Mr. Breger please provide a phone number where he can call you back at to discuss your situation. Mr. Breger’s principal office is located at 2025 N. 3rd Street, Suite 157, Phoenix, AZ 85004 and he also has an address in Scottsdale. He represents clients throughout Maricopa County, Pinal County and Yavapai County. The information in this article is current as of January 2009. Remember that all cases need to be assessed on their individual merits and you should consult your attorney to discuss the specific issues in your case.

Dodge Challenger Hemi Review and photo by Chad Haire

Every January, there are four major car auctions in the Phoenix metro area. Within them you can often find an original 1970 Dodge Challenger selling beyond the $100,000 mark. Yes, those cars were fast, but they drank gas at about 6-10 miles per gallon, and had lousy braking and handling. With race gearing and no overdrive, they were limited to 60 mph highway cruising. Fun, but not practical. Now we get the new Challenger introduced in 2008. With the 425 horsepower SRT, it’s quicker than the original, hitting 0-60 mph in 5 seconds. It handles better and brakes shorter too, and gets up to three times the gas mileage. With a price range of $29,000 to $42,000, it’s cheaper than the worn-out auction cars. A better way to go, I think. My car was the R/T. It had the 383 horse Hemi, hooked to a 6-speed manual gearbox. 0-60 came in at 6.2 seconds, and gas mileage was 18-23 mpg. With limited options, the sticker was $35,000. I got more attention on the street with this than any of the fancy imports I’ve driven. I think the automatic transmission makes more sense; it’s just as quick and it’s easier to live with. If you are into retro-cars, this is a good choice.

Digital Summer is a Name You Should Know

Scottsdale- Digital Summer will be launching an all-out assault on the Venue of Scottsdale on Saturday, February 21st with some help from Friday Night Gunfight, Asylum, Giantkiller, Inprana, Roween and Savage View. They may be respectable firefighters, paramedics, and teachers by day, but on stage it’s a different story. Kyle Winterstein (Vocals), Ian Winterstein (guitar), “Guido” Hernandez (bass), “Fish” Cenfield (guitar), and “Cooter” Carlson (drums) faced the challenge head on and have created an edgy, powerful, yet soothing tone for a radio-friendly world. Influenced by multiple genres, DS has made an impressive impact on the music scene with their professional songwriting ability, aggressively entertaining live show, and seemingly endless promotional antics. Conquering major market radio stations, “Whatever It Takes” was in the top 4 most requested songs for over six weeks straight on 98Kupd, and is currently one of the top requested songs on Sirius Satellite Octane 20. Aside from becoming the largest drawing unsigned rock band in Arizona (maybe the southwest), they’ve also had the privilege to share the stage with the likes of Alice in Chains, Godsmack, Deftones, Sevendust, Five Finger Death Punch, Theory of a Deadman, Tantric and many more. The Venue of Scottsdale is located at 7117 E. 3rd Ave. in Scottsdale. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door. Doors open at 6 and this is an all ages event. Visit www.venueofscottsdale.com or www. digitalsummer.net for more information.

In April 2008, she traveled to Iraq and Kuwait co-headlining Bluzapalooza, the first-ever blues concert tour to perform for American troops. Mesa Amphitheatre is located at 201 N. Center St. in Mesa. Dokken Rocks Club Red Set the time machine to ‘Way Back’, circa 1978. A little-known group from Germany is formed, named Dokken after lead singer and visionary founder Don Dokken. Dokken rhymed with ‘Rockin’, and little did they know just how prophetically appropriate that auditory match would become. By 1983, their first U.S. release, Breaking The Chains would finally begin a string of top 100 hits and world-wide album sales of over 10 million records. Dokken would form a signature sound that would embody 80’s metal, with catchy melodies, 3-part harmonies, blistering guitar riffs, and stadiums of cheering fans all testifying to its effectiveness. While other rock bands of that era strove to sound more and more alike, Dokken (led by the namesake’s perfectionist nature), cut through the “me too” sounds and established themselves as not only purists of metal, but they also conveyed commercial viability at the same time; not an easy task. What has followed makes for good VH-1 material, with more ups and downs, record label drama, staff changes, and a relentless pursuit to be true to the band’s root sound. No matter how “glammed-out” the band was presented to the public, they were able to blend a heavy sound with melodic vocal lines and catchy choruses. Dokken shared limelights and toured with an 80’s ‘who’s who’ of arenapleasing bands: Blue Oyster Cult, Aerosmith, Judas Priest, ACDC, Scorpions, Metallica, Van Halen, Motley Crue, Quiet Riot, Cinderella, Ratt, Whitesnake, Poison and more. And now, you have a chance to see

them play the best of the old (and their new material) on Saturday, February 21st at Club Red in Tempe. Only $20 in advance buys you an up close and personal, intimate seat to have the 80’s blasted “Tooth and Nail” inside the well-rocked walls of Club Red. Door crashers can get in

Great Sound at Club Red garb. To be able to see a group this talented in the intimate setting Club Red provides will be an experience to gloat over with those misfortunate few who will somehow miss out. Tickets are on sale now, so get them while you can!

If you haven’t been to a Club Red show, you’re in for a musical treat: quite frankly the live music shows we’ve been to sound awesome there. We wanted to know more about why bands that sounded decent to us in other mid-sized venues often sound incredible when we hear them at Club Red... First off we learned that Club Red has naturally good room acoustics: “a slightly irregular rectangle with a floating hardwood dance floor” (which is one of the ideal room layouts for good room acoustics) supported by extensive “tuning” of the house sound system to match the room layout. The actual FOH PA (Front of House PA system) has 6 custom built high output bent-horn subs (all acoustically coupled) and 4 EAW main speakers; driven by a huge tower rack of amps that has 15,000 watts of available power on several dedicated electrical circuits! The massive available power provides ample headroom for the head sound tech, Patrick Driscoll, to get great clarity of sound without the need to use overwhelming volume. Club Red has quickly become the favorite stopping point for touring Reggae bands from Jamaica who need both a big stage and a great PA system (Reggae bands are generally considered the acid test for a FOH PA system due to the size of the bands and need for massive bass support).

for $30 if there are any tickets left. A sellout is imminent. This is a show! Opening for Dokken will be The Cover Junkies, Dagger, Throttle, Impulsive Aggression, Sideways to Seven, and more! Club Red’s unique dueling stage format allows you to see one act after another with no down time in between. Duel bars keep the drinks flowing as well, and a first-class sound system, lighting and video screen array makes every show a cut above most local venues. So, if you missed the 80’s (or just don’t remember much), this is a must-see show. If the 80’s are your middle name, then get to Club Red on the 21st or forever turn in your hair spray and studded leather AZWeeklyMagazine.com

Club Red has been constantly upgrading their sound system since opening a year ago. What’s scary is that they have another half dozen improvements planned to their already superlative sound system. Owner, Kim Commons, told me “our goal is to be among the top 5 mid-sized clubs in the country in terms of sound quality, we have found that having a great sounding room is a major competitive advantage. Bands are very sophisticated about sound these days and they really do want to sound their best for their fans. By constantly reinvesting in our gear, we are making Club Red more attractive to the bands that care the most about about sound quality.” By the way, it seems that customers at Club Red also appreciate the high quality sound. Head Sound Tech, Patrick Driscoll, reports that he often gets unsolicted tips from fans who seek him out at the sound board and thank him for making their favorite band sound so good! Where else in town does the sound tech get routine tips from music knowledgable fans just because the show sounded so good?

Can’t Afford Gossip Girls Threads? Meet M641 By Kinsey Schofield

Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester of Gossip Girl) would probably stab a guy for the two M641 dresses that are currently in my possession. Browsing madras641.com, I visualize Yes Man star and indie rocker Zooey Deschanel gracing the pages of high fashion magazines in her Impish Whisper Jumper, and NBC’s Barely Legal star Hilary Duff in the super sophisticated yet flirty, Pintucked Princess Blouse. (Hold on to your brazeres ladies- both items are under $50!) Madras641, or M641 as it’s known “on the streets” (By on the streets, I mostly mean online. I don’t run the streets; that’s dangerous), is an exquisite indie brand that will have you turning heads and will terminate that love/hate relationship you have with your bank teller. Imagine Anthropologie and Free People having a baby. Now imagine that BoHo chic baby having a Target price tag on it. Now imagine me with tears of joy streaming down my face when my package arrives in the mail. Yes. It’s that good. In 2007, friends Ina and Subu set out to create clothing that would not only appeal to the modern woman, but help her uniquely express herself as well as boost her confidence. After getting to know Ina, it’s quite evident that the girls definitely relate to

their audience, making the point, “As women, we like to be remembered for what we wear.”

While striving to keep the brand memorable high fashion, they also gave their clothing realistic price points. “Nowadays, women are too smart to invest their hard-earned dollars and savings in expensive designers,” she stresses. As for the economy, Ina’s got a simple solution, “If you want to take highfashion looks and apply them to your everyday life with an everyday budget- Seek out indie brands! Or find your equilibrium. Say ‘ciao’ to abundance and explore simplicity.”

customers; one that is both natural and contagious!” Ina uses Myspace, Facebook, and is especially a fan of brand new social media powerhouse, Twitter.com. Personally interacting with the people that know and love her brand? I doubt you’ll see Donatella Versace doing so.

In preparation for Arizona’s smoldering summers and their new collection, Ida suggests, “Free yourself from pants in ‘09 and pick up a daydress!” And I suggest you pick up that day dress from madras641.com. Just sayin’…

M641 is an emotionally driven brand; bold and unconventional. “Promise me, you won’t succumb to gloomy recession aesthetics in your fashion choices,” she says. “Wear color and positivity! Give your clothes some emotion of their own and try for happy ones. As Subu and Ina begin the launch of their Summer ‘09 Collection, ‘Summer Simpatico’, they know it will be hard to compete with the bigger brands and chains that simply have the money to advertise. The girls look for unconventional ways to connect with their shoppers. “Our brand is a living entity, constantly evolving,” Ina explains. “That requires more than print ads and runway. M641 uses social media to form an interactive relationship with loyal

When Settling in, Don’t Settle for Old Shower Curtain By Ron Leshnower, About.com

If your new apartment comes with a shower curtain, you might think that it’s a nice freebie or that you’ve been spared an errand. Although this may be true, it’s still probably best to toss the shower curtain and buy a new one. Here are three good reasons for doing so: You could probably do much better- Chances are, the shower curtain that came with your apartment is a neutral pattern or solid color that at best doesn’t clash with your decor. If you buy your own shower curtain, you’ll have so many patterns, prints, designs, and even fabrics to choose from. Even if you just pick a solid vinyl curtain, you can select one that coordinates with your bath towels and window treatments or is simply a color that you like. You’ve got to make your place your own- Even though you’re renting your apartment, it’s still your home. The shower curtain is often the focal point of a bathroom, so once you replace it with a curtain of your choosing, you may get the feeling that it’s now your bathroom. You can’t be sure how clean it is- This is probably the most compelling reason to get rid of an old shower curtain. Despite their location, shower curtains can get dirty fast. So, at the least, you’ll need to clean any shower curtain that came with your apartment. It’s one thing to regularly clean your own shower curtain, but is a shower curtain that’s been used by strangers for who knows how many times really worth keeping?
