The Story Is All New. The Songs Are All Elvis. June 3rd – July 10th 2011 Kick start your summer at Arizona Broadway Theatre (ABT) as you step back in time to the good old days of 1955 and get ALL SHOOK UP. ALL SHOOK UP is a brilliant love story with the same charm of musical theatre hits Grease, Footloose and Bye Bye Birdie. Inspired by and featuring the songs of Elvis Presley and based on Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, it is filled with mistaken identities where “she” becomes a “he” to get close to her guy. Meet Chad, a good looking, hip swiveling, guitar strumming, motorcycle-riding roustabout who just got out of jail. In need of mechanic services for his bike, he turns off the highway and charges into a square little town, in the middle of a square Midwest state causing all the small town girls to go crazy. Enter Natalie, the mechanic who turns out to be a girl. She promises to repair his bike, but really wants to overhaul his heart.
Shoes and many more.

“ABT is excited to welcome Jeremy Sartin (Chad) back for a return engagement at the theatre,” said Kiel Klaphake, executive producer. “He revved the ladies’ hearts as Rum Tum Tugger in last year’s production of CATS. Jeremy is as handsome a leading man as you could want and Katie Postotnik (Natalie) is a perfect match for this bad boy.” Get nostalgic and jam to classic Elvis tunes like Don’t Be Cruel, Teddy Bear/Hound Dog, Can’t Help Falling in Love, Jailhouse Rock, Love Me Tender, Blue Suede AZWeeklyMagazine.com

movies that manipulate you as much as ‘The Double Hour’ does are typically frowned upon. Director Giuseppe Capotondi’s thriller is the worst kind of cinematic charlatan, taking advantage of moviegoers’ trust. The deadly deception is of far less consequence to the characters than it is to our faith in film.” Grade: D
By Joseph J. Airdo Vin Diesel last week sought the “wisdom and clarity” of his fans on Facebook regarding whether or not he should reprise his role of Riddick, the antihero in the 2000 science-fiction flick “Pitch Black” and its 2004 follow-up: “[David Twohy] the writer/director just landed in New York with the good news. We can start filming this summer. However, there is a catch… in order for us to make a true R rated film, I must work for scale upfront... Money is always second to art, integrity and spirit... but the real issue is deeper. Can I suspend my life, to momentarily venture to that dark place... called Riddick?” Be among the first to get the latest ‘scoop’ from Joseph J. Airdo at Examiner. com
director Takeshi Miike presents ’13 Assassins’, a story of courage and conviction, which will certainly join those talked about films of a time long since past.” Grade: B+
Stan: “Kseniya Rappoport as Sonia, delivers the angst of the central character as the psychological thriller leads us through a series of events to want to see how the vital clue of a ‘Double Hour’, a reference to the military time of ’23:23 hours’, comes into play. A bit melodramatic at times, I was engaged enough to see it through as twists and turns of the mystery unfold.” Grade: C+

‘The Double Hour’ A chambermaid’s (Kseniya Rappoport) murky past resurfaces, causing her reality to crumble after her romantic getaway with a former cop (Filippo Timi) suddenly takes a dark turn. When her husband is taken hostage by his striking employees, a trophy wife (Catherine Deneuve) takes the reins of the family business and proves to be a remarkably effective leader. Business and personal complications arrive in the form of her ex-lover (Gerard Depardieu), a former union leader. In French with English subtitles. Playing exclusively at Harkins Camelview 5. (R – 95 minutes) Joseph: “‘Potiche’ has all of the charms of a trite television sitcom and a melodramatic daytime serial. That is to say, François Ozon’s French Continued on Page 15...
Stan: “A look at the old theme of ‘the woman’s role is in the home’ and not business, using the lighted hearted comedic style of the sit-com setting of old, ‘Potiche’ is quite charming in its ‘over-the-top quirkiness’ and ‘old school’ camera set-ups, as it delivers the seriousness of the central theme under the guise of comedy. Catherine Deneuve is a delight in the title role as the catalyst of change.” Grade: B
Joseph: “When making a documentary about a pastime that is far less fun to watch than it is to play, one must make sure it at least features endearingly eccentric characters. Unfortunately, while “Under the Boardwalk: The Monopoly Story’s” characters are certainly eccentric, it is in a repulsively obnoxious kind of way. I have never rooted so hard for someone to go bankrupt.” Grade: F

‘Herb & Dorothy’
‘Under the Boardwalk: The Monopoly Story’ Shows how the classic board game has become a worldwide cultural phenomenon and follows the colorful players who come together to compete for the coveted title of Monopoly World Champion. Narrated by Zachary Levi. Playing exclusively at Harkins Valley Art. (G – 88 minutes)
The Phoenix Art Museum always plays an interesting and eclectic mix of thought provoking and/or art related films. Up next; “Herb & Dorothy.” This documentary tells the story of postal clerk Herb and his librarian wife Dorothy who have built an impressive contemporary art collection, comprised of more than 4,000 pieces. The film has garnered rave reviews and has screened at film festivals around the country. Screening 1 p.m. Sunday, June 6. – Randy Montgomery

‘Phil Ochs: There But For Fortune’ The biography of Phil Ochs, a conflicted truth seeking troubadour who, with a guitar in hand, stood up for what he believed in and challenged us all to do the same. Unyielding in his political principals and unbending in his artistic vision, Phil Ochs, though branded a traitor by his critics, was above all a fiercely patriotic American. Playing exclusively at Film Bar in downtown Phoenix, AZ.
‘X-Men: First Class’ In 1963, Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) starts up a school and later a team, for humans with superhuman abilities. Among them is Erik Lensherr (Michael Fassbender), his best friend... and future archenemy. (PG-13 – 140 minutes)
‘YellowBrickRoad’ After an impressive start with German zombie flick, “Rammbock,” AMC Theatres continues its series of independent horror films. The trailer for “YellowBrickRoad” looks promising (think “Blair Witch”). A team of explorers goes out searching for the answer to why an entire town’s population disappeared 70 years ago. What they find has been called “deeply disturbing” by horror fan sites. Screening 10 p.m. Wednesdays and Midnight Fridays during June at AMC Westgate. – Randy Montgomery

State Farm’s “Agents on a Mission” tour is scheduled to make a pit stop 1-7 p.m. Monday, June 6 at Tempe Marketplace, 2000 E. Rio Salado Parkway. In addition to life-size remote-controlled models of three characters from the film, (due in theaters June 24) that race around, light up and rev for fans, the event will also feature a video kiosk, e-photo opportunities, games and giveaways as well as a sweepstakes boasting 18,000 prizes, including a new car. In “Cars 2,” star racecar Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) and the incomparable tow truck Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) head overseas to compete in the first-ever World Grand Prix. However, when Mater gets caught up in the world of international espionage, he finds himself torn between assisting Lightning McQueen in the highprofile race and towing the line in a top-secret mission orchestrated by master British super spy Finn McMissile (Michael Caine). Pablo Francisco June 9th – 12th
It is not uncommon to sense the anticipation of Pablo’s audience as his fans await their favorite impressions, while being surprised by his unpredictable transformations. Those who experience Pablo’s show for the first time find themselves captivated by his hilarious dead on impressions. Gene Lavanchy of FOX – TV Boston calls Pablo “the most talented comedian in the business today”. His unbelievable ability to physically morph himself into movie stars, singers, friends, family, and a multitude of nationalities give Pablo’s show a universal appeal. His drop-dead funny spoofing often leaves his audiences struggling to catch their breath which is the driving force behind his huge success. His rendition of the intensely melodramatic Spanish language soap operas on Telemundo and his narration of the action-movie preview with Arnold Schwarzenegger as a tortilla vendor bring screams of laughter coast to coast. This gifted performer continues to thrive on his creativity and the spontaneity of stand-up comedy selling out concert venues, universities and comedy clubs alike. Pablo continually pushes the envelope, constantly refining new material and frighteningly accurate embodiments.
Pablo continues to bring his audiences to their feet with boisterous laughter and applause. He weaves together his arsenal of characters, spontaneous outbursts, and clever insights to create a standup show that more resembles an hour-long comedic jazz riff. He is an off-the-wall, animated character that points out the absurdity in an illogical, pop-culture obsessed world. His unmatched take on all things pop culture has taken him into the ranks of the most popular touring comedians worldwide. Pablo’s enormous popularity continues to AZWeeklyMagazine.com

British Open Pub Marks Queen’s Coronation Anniversary With 41-Pint Salute, June 2nd 2011 Scottsdale Restaurant Offers Pub Visitors Chance to Join in Celebration The British Open Pub in Scottsdale is marking the 58th anniversary of the Queen of England’s coronation with a free 41-pint salute. The celebration is a take on the 41-gun salute that is performed every June 2 in England to mark the 1953 coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, a ceremony also known as Coronation Day. At 8 p.m. on June 2, British Open Pub owner Gregg Troilo will pour 41 pints of beer for the first 41 people to show up and then signal for the beginning of the Coronation Day salute. Afterward, the pub will have drink specials for all patrons, including a $2 Bud Light special, $2 Patron Citronage shots and extended happy hour pricing until close.
“Being an English pub, it’s a given that we’d mark the coronation of Queen Elizabeth,” said British Open Pub owner Gregg Troilo. “But why have a 41-gun salute? You can have a lot more fun with 41 pints of beer.”
God Save the Queen!

Law Office of Corso&Rhude Urges Drivers to Remember the Laws of the Road Imagine that backyard barbecue or pool party you’re planning on having this summer. Something like hot dog buns or propane always gets forgotten, causing a last-minute trip to the store, right? Before you pick up the keys though, the attorneys at the Law Office of Corso&Rhude want you to stop and think: Have you had a drink? “DUIs are very common during the summer months,” said Christopher Corso, of the Law Office of Corso&Rhude. “And many times they happen very close to home, when you relax your standards and don’t think twice about driving to the store after having a couple of beers.” Corso and his law partner John Rhude know from experience
the problems that can arise from backyard barbecues with family during Memorial Day weekend. Both attorneys previously prosecuted DUIs, DWIs and OUIs for the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office. Combined, Corso and Rhude have handled more than 15,000 DUI cases as prosecutors and defense attorneys. Arizona law requires that any person found guilty of drinking and driving (even a first offense) serve jail time. And DUI convictions can also include extensive fines up to $2,500, suspension of driving privileges and the installation of an ignition interlock device – even for first offenders. “That’s a lot of hassle and expense to put up with just because you ran out of propane,” said law partner Christopher Corso. The Law Office of Corso&Rhude, PLLC is located at 9210 W. Union Hills Drive, Suite 102, Peoria, Arizona, 85382. To schedule a free consultation, please visit www.corsorhude.com or call (602) 254-3188.

friend at the roadhouse just outside of town. The Thunderbird Roadhouse aims to bring a little of that small town zest for life to the West side.
Incredible Food. Incredible Prices!
Why are we saying it’s so good?
If you enjoy a comfortable, locallyowned tavern atmosphere but are sick of having to dine on below-par “bar & grill” cuisine, you will want to get to the Thunderbird Roadhouse as soon as you can. Don’t let the “Roadhouse” moniker fool you. You won’t find bouncers tossing people out the windows here. This is the kind of place that half the locals tell everyone about and the other half keep their mouths shut in fear of everyone finding out about how good it is. In simpler times, locals always knew they could get a home-cooked meal and make a new
Well, for one thing you have a Culinary Institute of America graduate chef (Top Chef School in U.S.), with 35 years experience creating the comfort foods found within. Owner/Chef Michael Schuyler formerly prepared foods only for high-end resorts, and fine catering/restaurant operations. Now, he has his own place and he keeps it casual because as he says, “It’s the kind of place I’d like to hang out in”. One thing is for sure… This ain’t no garden variety bar food Hoss…This is good chow! When you go, try the Chicken Fried Steak, the hand-cut Chicken Strip Baskets, the Buttermilk-Battered
Popcorn Shrimp, Fresh Ground Hamburgers and Fresh Cut Fries. Try just about anything. It’s all made fresh daily. And if you want the best cheap lunch in town, get this: They have $5 lunch specials (Mon-Fri) that include a domestic beer or soft drink! Beer Anyone? You will have to look hard to find another bar & grill that is more craft-beer-centric than Thunderbird Roadhouse, in fact they want to be your “West Side Craft Beer Headquarters”, said Chef Michael, with 18 craft beers on draft and in bottles and adding more each week. On Thursdays, you can drink craft beer for only $2.50, and that is a bargain in anyone’s book. Your favorite domestics are on-hand as well but you should venture for a craft beer with food this good. Free peanuts too!
The Thunderbird Roadhouse has a fun atmosphere and you will make new friends here. Stuffy people aren’t allowed. There’s pool, darts, pinball, bowling and a jukebox stuffed with Classic Rock, Blues and Rockabilly tunes. Ladies night is every Wednesday from 7pm to close and ladies get $1 drafts and $3 “Foo Foo Drinks”. You’ll have to show up to find out what that’s all about. Happy Hour is from Monday-Friday, from 4-7pm and a Reverse Happy Hour is available on Sundays from 10pm to close. The kitchen opens at 11:30 daily and serves up the best grub in the west until 10pm nightly. Your new favorite tavern and eatery is located at 3549 W. Thunderbird Road, Phoenix, 85032. FRANCESCA WOLFSOHN INVESTMENT ADVISOR AZ 480~822~8176 NY 516~395~3299 YOU’VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! TODAY AS I LISTENED TO MY “ALL NEWS ALL THE TIME RADIO” (CAN’T GET MORE SERIOUS THAN THAT, OR SO I THOUGHT), A HEADLINING STORY BROKE…MAN DRIVES HIS CAR STRAIGHT INTO A HOUSE! WHEN ASKED, WHY? HE SAID, “THE GPS TOLD ME TO” AFTER HEARING THIS I SAY IT IS TIME FOR EVERYONE TO GET BACK TO THE BASICS. IT IS TIME TO REVISIT WHAT WORKS IN ALL AREAS OF OUR SOCIETY Legendary football coach Vince Lombardi was famous for his unwavering attention to basic fundamentals. He (Lombardi) kept the game simple. The late coach of the Green Bay Packers believed that executing a handful of time-proven, rock-solid principles was the key to success on the gridiron and elsewhere. The phenomenal track records compiled by Lombardi suggest that he was correct in his assessment that sticking to the basics — and performing them better than the competition — was a more reliable formula for winning than introducing needless complexity. Today so many investment vehicles have grown increasingly complex. This is not said to eradicate the importance of entrepreneurship and innovation in a competitive, market- driven global economy. As well, I appreciate the value that many complex products that have appeared in recent years offer. As said by the American playwright Neil Simon, “If no one ever took risks,” “Michelangelo would have painted the Sistine floor.” We have been quite receptive to these exotic new derivatives offering so much and yet the complexities magnified the risk because of the massive leverage. At the end of the day, investing in equities and fixed-income securities remains what it always has been: appraising the choice between shares and bonds. Shares provide investors with direct ownership in a business and Bonds share in that cash flow in the form of interest payments. So whether your stake is as owner or lender, my recommendation this week is to find someone like me to make certain the info you receive is direct and transparent.

Follow us on and www.worldclassbeverages.com The High-End Beer Division of Crescent Crown” about what’s available. The two most popular are RateBeer (www.ratebeer.com) and Beer Advocate (www. beeradvocate.com). Both sites have a variety of features with the focus being on beer ratings and public forums. The ratings are consumer driven so while wine uses folks with theoretically perfect palates to rate their products, these ratings feature everyday drinkers giving you an idea of what they think of the beer. Beer is rated on several categories: Aroma, Appearance, Flavor and Palate for RateBeer and Look, Smell, Taste, Feel and Drink for Beer Advocate. A composite score for each rating is compiled and then it is converted to either a percentile (RateBeer) or a letter score (Beer Advocate). The formulas
used are designed to protect against abuse, but they also produce other interesting results. RateBeer tends to have more extremes, that is, more beers are rated with extremely high scores and more have extremely low scores. Beer Advocate’s system yields more balance between the scoring and A+ scores are extremely rare, while D scores are also rare. Both web sites also allow you to compare the beers against other beers of the same style. Given that many of the raters have a preference for strong beers, there is a disproportionate amount of Imperial Stouts, Belgian Quadrupels and other high alcohol beers represented at the top of the list.

Are any of these great beers available in Arizona? Of course they are. Sixteen of RateBeer’s top Fifty beers have been sold in Arizona in the past twelve months including Alesmith Speedway Stout, Bell’s Expedition Stout, St. Bernardus ABT 12 and Mikkeller Beer Geek Breakfast. Beer Advocate has their list of the “Top Beers on Planet Earth” and 34 of their top 100 were sold in Arizona last year. This includes Alesmith IPA, Lost Abbey Angel’s Share, Bear Republic Hop Rod Rye, Ballast Point Victory at Sea and Bell’s Two Hearted Ale all make this list. As you explore on these sites you can break it down by country and style as well. Continued on page 36...

The other big part of these sites are the forums. Forums serve as an exchange of information between the users of the site and they are broken down by category. There are regional forums, Beer Talk, New Releases, Trading and Industry News forums and all are fairly active. Recent topics in the regional forum for Arizona include groups planning private tasting events, availability of Bell’s Hopslam and the Strong Beer Festival held recently. Discussions about big events are regular and following them is a great way to determine which events are worthwhile to attend and which

Of course not everybody wants to participate in these forums and that’s okay, there is other information on the websites as well. Both sites include regular articles, a calendar of events, reviews of beer bars and restaurants, as well as other beer related items. For example, a quick search of the Arizona market shows us that T’s Liquor and Convenience Mart (Tempe), Magnum’s (Phoenix), Papago (Scottsdale) AJ’s Fine Foods – Via Linda (Scottsdale), Moto (Phoenix) and 1702 (Tucson) all score highly. Since the web sites depend on consumers or retailers to conduct the initial set up, there are still many great places not represented. Soon,

There are many other sites out there that are beer related. Two of our favorites are The Beer Mapping Project (www.beermapping.com) and Brookston Beer Bulletin (www. brookstonbeerbulletin.com). Beer Mapping provides maps of cities and countries and marks locations of breweries, beer bars, restaurants, beer stores and homebrew shops. If you travel this is a great way to locate
Bulletin is at the top. There is a small San Francisco bias since that’s where its based, but Jay has a great amount of information and opinion on world wide issues and is always a good read. Additionally he maintains a great reference of brewery web site, other blogs, events, beer trivia and more. Brewery and distributor websites also provide a lot of good information, albeit only for specific brands. However if you are really looking for in depth information, these are Continued on page 37...
some of the best resources. Some of the best looking and most informative brewery web sites include The Lost Abbey (www.lostabbey.com), Breckenridge (www.breckbrew. com), Left Hand Brewing (www. lefthandbrewing.com) and Great Divide (www.greatdivide.com). Locally, World Class Beverages (www.worldclassbeverages.com) has a very educational and interesting website. Besides offering detailed information about all the beers and general beer knowledge, the web site feature Beer Finder. Beer Finder allows a consumer to search for a beer and find the bars or stores closest to a given location that offers that product. When you decide you just have
to have your Great White, this is the way to find it. There are so many more opportunities to use the internet for information. Social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook are becoming increasingly popular and deserve some mention. In fact they deserve their own separate article and that will appear at a later date. For now, dig in to the suggestions here and increase your beer knowledge.

Stan Robinson, a movie reviewer for the Film Section of AZ Weekly Entertainment Magazine, enjoys plays,
‘A View From a Fan’ By Stan Robinson Returning home on Memorial Day (May 30th) for a holiday game for the first of three against the Florida Marlins (May 30-31 – June 1), and 4 games with the Washington Nationals (June 2-5), the Arizona Diamondbacks started this home stand in first place in the National League West! The common thought of teams that get off to a less than desirable start before the All-Star Game and can finish at 500 before the break, have a chance to work out those ‘early season woes’ in the first half of the season and be in contention for the division title for the second half. The excitement of the D’Backs games with the ‘one run’ win/loss factor did indeed, spark the thought that if their games are that close, a bit of ‘tweaking here and an adjustment there’, could result in pulling off a win in the close games. The bottom line, the Diamondbacks are showing that ‘never give up’ spark that all of us who have played sports feels when our hearts and souls are dedicated to winning!

Arizona takes advantage of Cleveland turnovers
The Arizona Rattlers (9-2) defeated the Cleveland Gladiators (6-4) 63-42 Saturday at the US Airways Centers, keeping their winning ways very much alive. QB NICK DAVILA completed 25-of30 passes for 263 yards and eight touchdowns, finding WR JASON GEATHERS four times (10 catches, 111 yards) in the endzone. WR TRANDON HARVEY also made a statement, catching five balls for 91 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, DB VINCE HILL grabbed a touchdown saving interception that bounced off of several Gladiator players at the 3:58 mark of the first quarter with the score set at 7-7. DL KYLE HARRINGTON collected 1.5 sacks for the Rattlers.
NBA Finals
QB Kurt Rocco completed 27-of42 passes for 328 yards and three touchdowns for the Gladiators. He spotted WR Thyron Lewis for two scores (13 catches, 157 yards). With eight minutes left in the game, DB VIRGIL GRAY intercepted a pass from Rocco as the Gladiators were marching in for a score. On the next possession, Davila found Harvey for a 26-yard scoring strike to put the Rattlers up 55-35, breaking the game open.  The Rattlers’ next home game is Saturday, June 11 against the Iowa Barnstormers at the US Airways Center; kickoff is slated for 7:00pm (AZ TIME). The game will be televised at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday (June 12) on Fox Sports Arizona. Fans can also find the game LIVE on AFL Live (provided by NiFTy TV). The Arizona Rattlers are a proud member of the Arena Football League, which is in its 24th season with 18 franchises from coast to coast.

NOW RENTING!
Sales by Geis Realty, LLC
Skip the battered, button-down, bowling tee and slip on something more alluring because they won’t let you in wearing anything less at the Lucky Strike Lanes in Downtown Phoenix’s Cityscape. Don’t be disappointed because you look forward to wearing something cheesy while you show off your curve balls and turkeys and that you won’t get to wear the cheese this time around. Don’t fret. You’ll want to look your best for such a good cause--that cause being Michael J. Fox’s Foundation for Parkinson Research’s “Rock N Bowla” being held on June 1st. This is a nationwide event that started in Belleview, WA earlier this year and will be held in various cities across the nation, having its finale later this summer in Manhattan. This night should be pretty fun because not only do you get to bowl, but entertainment will be provided to you by artists, Incidental, Replacing Jenny, and Mike Goodrick. Tickets are $20 but a portion of the ticket sales will benefit good ‘ol Marty McFly’s charity, Team Fox. So don’t sit still, support a cause, and do a little snazzy bowling this Wednesday. 6/1. 6 – 10:30 pm. Buy your tickets at www.groundproduc-

Arizona Wine Tasting at AZ Wine Company
The beautiful thing about studying abroad in Italy for a summer is all the wine you get to drink. I drank wine for lunch, afternoon post-class discussions, dinner, and throughout the night. Che Bellissima! The Italians still live by the phrase, “In vino veritas” (In wine, there is truth). Heck yeah, there is! Only bring your close friends who already know everything about you to the Arizona Wine Tasting at Arizona Wine Company in Scottsdale on Thursday. ONLY the close ones, otherwise you might get in trouble and there could be too much drama for a Thursday. Sample the wines of the desert and find out what our land can do (or can’t do). Local wineries will offer you a taste of their own liquid cures to a stiff tongue so you can speak your truths more eloquently than when you’re sober. Maybe even brush up on that Spanish you studied for four years but have now forgotten due to lack of practice. Trust me, the wine definitely helps in speaking
a foreign language—try it if you haven’t. The cost is $15. $10 will be applied to the purchase of any wine. 6/2. RSVP @ 480-423-9305 ask for Robert. www.azwineco.com
Summer Concert Series Presented by Smart Water
I got a perfect spot for all you Happy Hour folks who like to keep the buzz going until the bar closes. Smart Water presents the Summer Concert Series at the Montelucia Resort and Spa in Scottsdale where local bands keep your heart rate up and the hotel bar makes it impossible for you to remain thirsty. The Montelucia Resort draws inspiration from Mediterranean themes and makes you feel like you’re on vacation in Morocco or Italy rather than on a staycation in Scottsdizzy. You’ll feel like you’re far away enough from home to feel comfortable dancing in front of others. You’ll speak cheerfully to your companion about the escapade of last night, then look at the couple sitting at the next table and not care because you’ll think they don’t understand a word you’re saying. This Friday in the Cortijo Plaza, take a listen to local cover band, Elvis Before Noon, and sip on a cocktail from the Montelucia’s Mbar. The band is playing from 6:30 to 9:30 and happy hour at the Mbar runs from 9:00 to 11:00. 6/3. 6:30-9:30 at the Montelucia Resort & Spa. Free.

Kansas Carries On Next Friday, June 3rd At Celebrity Theatre
Celebrity Theatre presents one of the most progressive rock bands in rock history, Kansas at 8 p.m. on Friday, June 3rd.
For nearly four decades, Kansas has carried on delivering unforgettable live performances as evidenced on their current DVD release, There’s Know Place Like Home. The collection debuted at #5 on the Billboard DVD top sales chart and features such favorites as “Dust In The Wind,” “Carry On Wayward Son” and “Point of Know Return” as well as a sampling from each album in their discography with a special symphonic touch. It was a combination of fate and irony that a young man born in Kansas would eventually play in a band called Kansas. It happened to Phil Ehart, founding member and drummer of a band that would leave a lasting impression in the world of classic rock. Legendary rock promoter Don Kirshner clearly made the right decision when he signed Kansas to their first deal in 1973, placing the band on a road to rock success. Kansas has produced eight gold albums, three sextuple-Platinum albums ( Leftoverture, Point of Know Return, Best of), one platinum live album (Two for the Show) and a million-selling gold single, “Dust in the Wind.” Kansas appeared on the Billboard charts for over 200 weeks throughout the 70’s and 80’s. “Carry On Wayward Son” was the #2 Most Played Track on classic rock radio in 1995 and went to #1 in 1997. In 1998, Kansas released an orchestral CD, Always Never the Same, recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios in London. They followed with an orchestral tour accompanied by topcaliber symphony orchestras. The band – in addition to Ehart, is comprised of singer/keyboardist Steve Walsh, guitarist Rich Williams, bassist Billy Greer and violinist David Ragsdale. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets ($35 and $50) are still available at Celebrity Theatre or online at www. celebritytheatre.com. To charge by phone, call 602-267-1600 ext.1. All tickets are subject to a surcharge. Celebrity Theatre is located at 440 N. 32nd St., just 4 blocks south of the Loop 202 freeway, in Phoenix.
