Performance in 1958 and an entry in the GRAMMY Hall Of Fame in 1998. The renowned harmonies and wistful melodies of The Kingston Trio, possibly the most well-known folk group in American musical history, will be heard at the Higley Center for the Performing Arts in Gilbert on January 29, 2011. Travel back in time with favorites like “Wimoweh, “Tom Dooley and “M.T.A.. The performance will feature a special appearance by founding member and East Valley resident, Bob Shane, who retired in 2004. Formed in 1957, the Kingston Trio has survived the changes in music trends by maintaining the close harmonies that are the group’s trademark. Using only acoustic guitars and banjos, and singing simple yet memorable melodies, The Kingston Trio revolutionized American popular music, reawakening America to its own rich folk music heritage.

By Stan Robinson

tumn years are surrounded by friends, colleagues and family members who all seem to suffer from some degree of unhappiness. Playing exclusively at Harkins Camelview 5. (PG-13 – 129 minutes)

‘The Dilemma’ A man discovers that his best friend’s wife is having an affair. His ‘dilemma’, as the amateur investigation dissolves into mayhem, he learns that his friend has a few secrets of his own. With the clock ticking and the pressure mounting as the biggest presentation of their careers is approaching, he has to decide on what will happen if he reveals the truth to his best friend.

The following quotes were pulled from reviews written by AZ Weekly’s Film! contributors to present readers with a wider perspective about this new release. Read Stan Robinson’s and Joseph J. For $10 you can purchase a wine tasting package which includes a souvenir glass and six tickets that are exchangeable for tastings. Plenty of outdoor cafes and restaurants will be participating to make for a full day event. On the agenda for live music is Moodafaruka playing Flamenco, Lemo whose sound is that of Calypso with a rock edge and Bob Culberston playing the Chapman Stick. For only a $3 admission fee, this is bound to make for a creative day outside of the house.10am-5pm www.thunderbirdartists.com/festivals

I’ll start off by saying that it was a good dose of punk sound that I haven’t had in a while. Sure mostly everyone looked like they belonged in a biker gang and my crew of 20-something year old stiletto clad IHPDOHV GLG QRW H[DFWO\ Ä&#x;W LQ EXW hell who cares, we are all here for the music. The place itself is pretty standard in rock-venue dĂŠcor, neon VLJQV JUDIÄ&#x;WLHG ZDOOV PLUURUV Ä \HUV DQG DQ RYHUDOO GDUN LQWHULRU hence the “grotto.â€? Pool tables and dart boards line the 2nd part of the venue alongside high-tops and access to a medium size patio. The ability to rock out in front of the stage or sit at tables facing the show was pretty sweet as was the sound system. Drinks were strong and delicious making you loosen up real quick and enjoy the show. There is an average of 3-5 bands a night and all the ones we witnessed sounded pro enough for Joe’s Grotto Music us to rock alongside the music. If your looking for a good live show or Venue something aside the usual top-40 I have heard of this place prior jam playing bars, be sure to give but last Saturday when a friend’s band was performing, I had the op- Joe’s a shot for a good vibe. $8-$10 portunity to check it out for myself. cover. www.joesgrotto.com Got a hot event? Jason Derulo’s Weird Encounters Jason Derulo once autographed a baby’s forehead. The ‘Ridin’ Solo’ singer said the child’s mother “begged” him to leave his mark on her child and it was the strangest thing he ever had to do. He said: “I reluctantly signed it after this woman just begged and begged me to do it.” The 21-year-old musician, who is supporting Lady Gaga on her ‘Monster Ball’ tour - is no stranger to weird events however and said since he became a star it has given him some insight into the more eccentric side of life. The ‘Whatcha Say’ hitmaker added: “Last New Year’s Eve, I was at a party and there were lions.”

Rihanna Moving In With Minaj? Rihanna and Nicki Minaj are planning to move in together. ‘Only Girl (In The World)’ singer Rihanna said she’d like to set up a house with her female rapper friend as they shot a video for Nicki’s song ‘Fly’ together. After posting a photo of them together, she wrote: “Me and Nikki in our new crib, lol! Gettin busy on set of ‘FLY’!!! It’s so hard to keep my hands off!” Nicki soon replied, jokingly saying she’d only move in if Rihanna improved her spelling, saying: “Lol. If we’re gonna live together and hook

Coldplay Refused Glee’s Request Until Show Grew Coldplay wouldn’t allow one of their songs to be used in ‘Glee’ - but changed their minds once the show took off. Matthew Morrison, who plays teacher Will Schuester on the hit US musical drama series, revealed that producer Ryan Murphy was refused rights to the group’s song ‘Viva La Vida’ for the pilot episode - but once the show took off, frontman Chris Martin called to offer the use of any of their material. Matthew said: “In the pilot I was meant to sing ‘Viva La Vida’ by Coldplay but they wouldn’t give us the rights. Then, once the show got started, Chris Martin called Ryan to apologize and said we could use whichever song we wanted. So I hope we’ll tackle that one.”
