FILM!

‘Grades At A Glance’

Joseph: “Director John Landis’s dark comedy ‘Burke and Hare’ – the filmmaker’s first feature-length motion picture since 1998 – may lack laughs and scares, but kill me and cut off my feet if it is not extremely entertaining. That is partly thanks to the authentic atmosphere mimicking 19th century Scotland and partly thanks to the perfect pairing of stars Simon Pegg and Andy Serkis, both of whom bring their characters to life with a color that is in complete contrast to the project’s otherwise black tone. However, most amusing is the acknowledgment that this strange story is based on actual events.” Grade: C

Reviewers’ Roundtable The following quotes were pulled from AZ Weekly Entertainment Magazine’s film columnists’ full reviews in an effort to generate a well-rounded overview of each of this weekend’s new releases.

As intrigue swirls around the court of Queen Elizabeth I, an ordinary actor named William Shakespeare (Rafe Spall) is given credit for the writings of Edward de Vere (Rhys Ifans). (PG13 – 130 minutes) *Screened after deadline.

‘Burke and Hare’ Two 19th-century opportunists (Simon Pegg and Andy Serkis) become serial killers so that they can maintain their profitable business-supplying cadavers to an anatomist (Tom Wilkinson). Playing exclusively at The Royale. (NR – 91 minutes)

Randy: “Director John Landis has been away from the big screen for quite some time. ‘Burke and Hare’ is a fun return to the silver screen. This slapstick dark comedy incites many laughs delivered by an all-star cast of British favorites. The film may not be everyone’s cup of tea due to some gross-out gore scenes involving cadavers and dissected body parts, but it’s all done in good humor.” Grade: B+

‘In Time’* Accused of murder, a man (Justin Timberlake) must figure out how to bring down a system where time is money, enabling the wealthy to live forever, while the poor must beg for each minute of life. (PG-13 – 109 minutes) *Screened after deadline.

When pair of analysts (Stanley Tucci and Zachary Quinto) uncovers information that could ruin them all, the key players (Paul Bettany, Kevin Spacey, Simon Baker, Demi Moore and Jeremy Irons) at an investment firm take extreme measures to control the damage. Playing exclusively at UltraStar Scottsdale Pavilions 11, UltraStar Surprise Pointe 14 and Harkins Valley Art. (R – 109 minutes) Stan: “We’ve viewed ‘news bite glimpses’ of the causes for the Wall Street meltdown from an overall perspective. ‘Margin Call’ with a stellar cast and in great dramatic form, focuses on one company as the potential discovery of ‘toxic assets’ prompts them to take the course of ‘dumping’ them to onto an unsuspecting general populace. With this view of one company, who’s senior executives decide to save their financial lives at the expense of all others, thinking of this being repeated through out the Wall Street financial community as the collapse of the US economic stability begins to unravel, is quite a chilling epitaph on economic survival without regard for the validity of actions.” Grade: B Joseph: “In the new Wall Street thriller ‘Margin Call,’ actor Zachary Quinto plays a rocket scientist. As it turns out, it may very well take one

hour and half for the younger viewers while giving older viewers so much more to like about the swashbuckling and oh so elusive rogue with a price on his head, and a heart of gold!” Grade: B+ Joseph: “In spinning off to his own animated adventure, Puss in Boots – arguably the most popular characters to come out of DreamWorks’s ‘Shrek’ franchise – fails to land on his furry feet. Though littered with clever jokes, ‘Puss in Boots’ features a story that seems like it was written for a generic knock-off that was intended to be schlepped to gullible Redbox customers. Worst of all, much like this year’s other animated disappointments ‘Kung Fu Panda 2’ and ‘Cars 2,’ this complete cat-astrophe is more interested in entertaining children than enchanting everyone else.” Grade: D

of those to understand more than just the basic concept of the film. And that is true in spite of the situation supposedly being spoken of as if to “a young child or a golden retriever.” Moreover, if you cannot completely comprehend something, it is almost impossible to feel anything about it. Having said that, the tremendous talent that makes up ‘Margin Call’s’ cast prevents writer/director J.C. Chandor’s project from ever becoming even remotely boring.” Grade: D

The only actor to appear in both the 1968 and 1990 versions of ‘The Thomas Crown Affair’, with the late Steve McQueen starring in the 60s version and Pierce Brosnan in the 90s, is actress Faye Dunaway! that disaster looms on the horizon. Playing exclusively at Harkins Camelview 5. (R – 124 minutes) Joseph: “One may not know exactly what to think of writer/director Jeff Nichols’s psychological drama ‘Take Shelter.’ And while that may have been the filmmaker’s ultimate intention, it is somewhat unsatisfying as a viewer – especially when the film’s final scene suggests that this is more of a feature-length prologue than a self-contained motion picture. On the other hand, ominousness runs rampant in ‘Take Shelter’ like in no other movie while actor Michael Shannon is finally afforded a well-deserved leading role – and a creatively complex one at that. ” Grade: C

‘The Vintner’s Luck’ In 19th century France, a peasant winemaker endeavors to create the perfect vintage. Playing exclusively at Harkins Camelview 5. (NR – 120

minutes) Joseph: “If it were a wine, romantic fantasy flick ‘The Vintner’s Luck’ could be said to offer a little citrus, some strawberry, passion fruit, the faintest soupçon of asparagus and just a flutter of a nutty Edam cheese. However, it is not a wine. It is a movie and, as such, it is tasked with offering more than just atmospheric flavor. Having said that, it is almost as if filmmaker Niki Caro – writer and director of 2002’s critically acclaimed ‘Whale Rider’ – stomps on the grapes of Elizabeth Knox’s novel too much, flattening the author’s basic story in the process.” Grade: D

Soundbite Spotlight The following quotes were pulled from interviews conducted by AZ Weekly Entertainment Magazine’s film columnists with talent speaking on behalf of movies recently released in theaters. Writer/Director Tim Chambers (‘The Mighty Macs’) By Joseph J. Airdo “I was partners with Gavin O’Connor, who directed the movie ‘Miracle.’ It was interesting to kind of sit shotgun during that process. I learned something about being there for the integrity of the story and the integrity of the sport. And there has never been an inspiring sports film for young girls where they actually play stakes that matter. I wanted to harken back to kind of an era of a wholesomeness. As a filmmaker – and as a father – what I wanted to do in making this movie was give us a choice to say, ‘This is what we can go see this weekend as a family.’ Whether you are 8 or 88 years old, this is a movie that you can go see. I feel like the industry needs to give families more choices when it comes to the big screen.

We finished filming in 2008. We all know what happened financially in 2008. The market collapsed and none of the studios were acquiring films. But we believed in the heart and soul of this movie. We were on the film festival circuit for more than a year, winning a bunch of awards – including Best Picture at the International Family Film Festival. The little victories kept us going. I learned to never give up. Right now, I feel like a mother who just delivered a baby and people are asking, ‘When are you going to have another one?’ I am going to digest this one, give it everything it deserves and then start thinking about my next project in a couple of months. I gravitate toward family films and films that make a difference. It is something that I want to continue to do so hopefully I can happen upon some other material in the future.” – Tim Chambers

Director Chris Miller (‘Puss in Boots’) By Stan Robinson “Originally when I was working on the Shrek films early on I was a story artist and I loved that job. You get the screenplay and it’s an opportunity to take first crack at visualizing the screenplay. The way we worked on those movies we had a just a ton of freedom to write and rewrite, and create interesting situations! So much of ‘Puss in Boots’ is done the same way. We had a very capable writer Tom Wheeler, and every memorable moment in the film came from a story artist, an idea that was born in the story department. It’s a great training course for directing because you learn a lot about cinematography, staging, blocking, all those things come in handy. When ‘Shrek’ the third came around I was offered the opportunity

to direct that film. When the opportunity came that they were going to make ‘Puss in Boots’ into a feature length film, I jumped on it because that character is my favorite of any of the Shrek characters! By far and away, ‘Puss in Boots’ is a liberating, fun film. It can be epic, and like you say, ‘An old RKO heroic character, like a legendary figure that’s larger than life’. There’s some Errol Flynn in there, and characters from cinematic history in Puss with a bit of James Bond, Clint Eastwood, Indiana Jones, and all these influences helped guide the way we approached sequences! As you mentioned, those finer nuances like your favorite of cats chasing a light, at the end of the day these creatures can never resist their true nature so if they’re lost in a moment or caught up in a moment, they’re just cats and it’s a fun comedic engine and every body can relate to that so we wove those aspects of cats into Puss’ persona which gave him his totality!”– Chris Miller

Directed by Oren Kaplan, and written by Joseph McKelheer&Eben Kostbar, is a coming of age drama following the life of Matt Hamill, the first deaf wrestler to win a National Collegiate Wrestling Championship. Harkins to host ‘Twilight’ marathon By Joseph J. Airdo Harkins Theaters will host a “The Twilight Saga” marathon Thursday, Nov. 17 at several of its locations throughout the Valley. In addition to admission to all three previous films in the fantasy franchise and the midnight premiere of “Breaking Dawn – Part One,” the $30-package includes two small popcorns, a 2012 Loyalty Cup, a commemorative lanyard and a bag full of goodies. Visit HarkinsTheatres.com/Twilight.

Bonus Features The following quotes were pulled from interviews conducted by AZ Weekly Entertainment Magazine’s film columnists with talent speaking on behalf movies recently released to Blu-ray and DVD.

“I’m a dad and I feel like the things in this movie are things that I’ve wrestled with my whole career. As an adult, a father and a husband, it’s your job to go chase your dream and be passionate about what you do and to fight like hell to get to the top. But the more you do that, the harder it is to pay attention to what really matters in life. Movies about finding that balance are movies that I’ve always been drawn to because I feel like it’s something really relevant to what I go through every day.” – Trent Cooper

Writer/Director Michael J. Weithorn (‘A Little Help’) By Joseph J. Airdo “[Jenna Fischer’s] performance was wonderful and nuanced and brilliant beyond my wildest expectations. At this point, I’m really honored to be a person who is able to show the world this side of Jenna. She was so dedicated and really wanted to be feeling what the character was feeling. If you can’t get a good performance out of somebody by letting him or her do what feels instinctively right, then you haven’t cast the right person. Eighty percent of the job is having a good script and casting. If those two things work, then the rest of it is a cakewalk.” – Michael J. Weithorn Wonder what movies we movie reviewers look forward to in November 2011? There’s Joseph’s ‘Winter in Summary’, and Stan’s ‘Most Anticipated Movies’! For Joseph J. BEER! ALL ABOUT STOUT Previously, I let you know my feelings on made up beer holidays when we “celebrated” National IPA Day. In case you missed the article, I am against them. They reek of selfpromotion and remind me of the Hallmark Holidays created to sell greeting cards. Regardless, it appears as if beer holidays are here to stay, so we might as well make the best of it. Which is exactly what we intend to do on November 3rd when it is time to celebrate International Stout Day. This is actually the Fourth Annual Stout Day but it has flown under the radar until this year.

Follow us on and www.worldclassbeverages.com The High-End Beer Division of Crescent Crown” category of strong beers, typically dark, including some Porters. Porters had become a favorite of the working class in London, both because they were relatively inexpensive and because they were stronger than most of the other beers available. Porter was unique because it was one of the first beers that was aged at the brewery and shipped ready to serve. Prior to that most London publicans would receive the beer young and age it themselves. Eventually the envelope was pushed on this style and ABVs went up to 6.6% (not a big beer by today’s standards but a monster by 18th century standards). These beers were known as Stout Porters. The style spread throughout the British Isles and in Ireland the Stout Porter became increasingly popular as opposed to the Plain Porter, typically just called a Plain. An Irish brewery named Guinness even produced a beer they titled Extra Superior Porter which was huge with the Dublin crowd. As beer styles eventually settled out, the fine folks at Guinness changed the name to Guinness Extra Stout. And that’s the rest of the story…wait this isn’t NPR? Okay we will press forward.

That’s right; it is a tribute to stouts, and not just for the United States, but for the whole world. Which kind of makes sense. While Americans can make legitimate claim to wresting the IPA style away from the rest of the world, to the point where other countries now copy our version of IPA, stouts remain an iconic worldwide style. So how about we dig into the style a little bit and then figure out where we can enjoy some of these magnificent beers on November 3rd.

Eventually Porters spread and what had started out as Stout Porter caught on big in the area around the Baltic Sea. These beers became known as Baltic Porters instead of Stout Porter and every Baltic Nation still produces at least one of these beers. Stouts, meantime, took on their own persona, which typically featured more roasted malts and a different strain of yeast from the porters of the day.

Stout beer was not its own style when the name first developed in the 1700’s. Rather it was used to imply an increased strength in a beer, much like the term Imperial or Double is now used. They were more of a

There are many types of stouts including Dry or Irish Stout, Imperial Stout (which would have been called a Stout Stout Porter?), Coffee Stout, Oyster Stout (which may or may not include oysters, but

signifies how incredibly well stouts and oysters pair together) and the Sweet Stouts (Milk, Oatmeal and Chocolate). Milk Stouts in particular are interesting creatures as they were originally brewed in Great Britain right after World War II as a nourishing drink. The addition of lactose, or milk sugar provided needed calories in a country whose food production capabilities had been hit hard by the German Blitzkrieg. Oatmeal stouts likewise have some interesting history. At one point they contained 30-35% oats but that declined and interest in this style had died and no examples were in production when Michael Jackson wrote his 1977 book, “The World Guide to Beer.” The section on oatmeal stouts intrigued Charles Finkel, who had an import company

AZWeeklyMagazine.com

called Merchant du Vin. Finkel commissioned Samuel Smith Brewery to make an oatmeal stout, and it has become one of their biggest selling beers. Charles Finkel and his wife Rose, went on to open Pike Brewing in Seattle’s Pike Place Market which they still own today. Enough of the history lesson. By now, if you are anything like me, you are probably getting a little bit thirsty. Fair enough, where can we get some of these stouts on November 3rd? No doubt many establishments will have their share of stouts on tap, but the most interesting one we know of is taking place at the Whole Foods Market in Chandler. Beer buyer King James Swann, as he is known to his subjects, is putting an Continued on Page 32...

Things will officially kick off at Whole Foods when Sonoran Brew Master Zack Schroder will tap a gravity fed firkin of Sonoran’s amazing Imperial Stout, Inebriator. This takes place at 4:00 PM and is a perfectly fine excuse to slip out of work early. After Zack swings his hammer the firkin will likely sell quickly. However, the next special treat is close behind. At 4:45, brewing pioneer, Jake Leinenkugel will step up to discuss his family heritage in brewing and introduce the

2011 version of the Big Eddy Series Russian Imperial Stout. At 5:00, the first keg of Big Eddy RIS available in Arizona will be tapped. Jake will hang out and enjoy a beer or two with the group for a while. Afterwards, it will just be all incredible stouts and maybe one or two surprises.

RAREaffair The Beer For Brains Foundation is in the final run-up to their big November 5th event, RAREaffair. Look for an incredible collection of great beers, including many not otherwise available in Arizona. In addition, they will have select wine and spirits along with restaurants doing food samplings in the general admission area. VIPs kick it up a notch this year. Besides featuring early admission and private seating, VIPs will be treated to a full buffet dinner and some special pours. Great music rounds out the night as we will be serenaded three amazing local bands. This all takes place Saturday night November 5th at Talking Stick Resort on Indian Bend Road just east of Loop 101. VIP admission is at 5:30 PM and General Admission is at 6:30. For details and to purchase tickets go to www.bfbf.org . AZWeeklyMagazine.com

Hello all, this week let’s chat about Big Eddy, a Russian Imperial style stout from Leinenkugel Brewing in Chippewa Falls Wisconsin. Founded in 1867, Leinenkugel’s is the seventh oldest brewery in the United States and features a year round production of more than a dozen different beer styles.

BEER! SECTION

Big Eddy, Larger Than Life!

Big Eddy, named after a fresh water spring near the brewery in Chippewa Falls boasts a selection of eleven malts and grains balanced by three different and distinct hop types. Dark and complex with chocolate overtones and notes of smoky molasses, this imperial stout pours from the tap absolutely opaque with a thick, tan head and wonderful lacing as the glass begins to empty. As it warms to room temperature, hints of sour cherry, fig and ripe plums begin to surface in the nose and on the palate. Big malty mouth feel is balanced by just a hint hop character on the back end and a slightly warm backbone stemming from its 9.5% ABV. Let me tell you lads, this beer has big complexity but is so smooth you may be surprised how easily it goes down. It will sneak up on you! Pairing possibilities include a nicely prepared fillet mignon with grilled asparagus and caramelized demi-glaze (I would add a touch of ripened cherry) or a hearty beef and vegetable stew, prepared with a touch of stout beer of course! Who’s Hungry?

Check out where to enjoy and purchase these local brands on “Beer Spy” at www.worldclassbeverages.com AZWeeklyMagazine.com

Ratebeer.com gives Big Eddy 99 out of 100 possible points for overall excellence and 91 points for style. This says a lot for the quality of this beer and the dedication of the brewers in a style segment that grows by leaps and bounds every year. Now here’s a little secret, Leinenkugel is expanding upon the Big Eddy brand and making an Imperial IPA as well. The Big Eddy Imperial Series. I can’t wait to try it!!! As always, keep sending your ideas and comments to kingjamesswann@gmail. com and don’t stop believing in the brew. Cheers! October 27th, 2011 - November 2nd, 2011

BET YOU DIDN’T KNOW

In 1945, a rooster by the name of Mike lived 18 months without a head. FRANCESCA WOLFSOHN INVESTMENT ADVISOR AZ 480~822~8176 NY 516~395~3299

Albert Einstein left his first wife for his cousin. The female praying mantis rips off the male’s head during sex.

THE GAMECHANGERS After spending 30+ years on Wall Street I am neither hopelessly naïve nor impractical, I am one, however, of many who believe there is prospect for change. An attainable idea that values can be put back into capitalism. I do not believe capitalism will ever achieve the perfect balance, or that we can eliminate the side of human nature which for some leads their judgment. The crash of 2008 and all that has unfolded ever since has shown us that the short-termism “greed is good” capitalism that dominated the past 30 years has failed. It has failed society, our children and our shareholders. The never~ending pursuit of shortterm profits and a higher share price has driven capitalism right off the cliff. Business leaders and investors alike were seduced by the idea -- known in academia as the “efficient market hypothesis” -- that the current share price told you all you needed to know about the value of a company. As it turns out, it tells you very little. The alternative; Old School is New School or as Matthew Bishop and Michael Green call it; “PHILANTHROCAPITALISM”; the better business practice of long termism and values~based business. The bottom line is the bottom line, but there is more than one way to get there. It is not just Warren Buffett and community banks that are role models for a new long-termism valuesbased capitalism. Nike, PepsiCo. and General Electric have all embraced a social mission with unexpected enthusiasm that is certainly more than just spin. Even those corporations who were at the bottom of the “best business practice” list are starting to take their responsibility to society more seriously. A vast number of firms are starting to realize that if they want to hire the best people, they will have to stand for something more than profit maximization.

Having blue eyes is actually a mutation. Before the mutation occurred, all humans had brown eyes.

If a frog eats enough fireflies, its stomach will eventually glow.

Charles Darwin once attempted to breed flying monkeys by crossing chimpanzees with vultures.

For those of us not at the helm of the top 50 there are actions we can take to perpetuate the change. If you are a manager, sign a business oath. Move some of your company’s money to a community bank. Buy products that are green, or fair traded, or otherwise ethically produced. Above all, demand that the pension funds and mutual funds that manage your retirement savings invest your money in a way that rewards long-term responsible behavior, not shortterm profit-chasing. New York Times columnist David Brooks recently expressed the need to “remoralize the markets”. Management guru Rosabeth Moss Kanter, whose new book, “SuperCorp,” is all about how “out of the ashes of conventional business models arises a set of companies using their power not only for profits and sustainable growth but also social good.” And as written in “The Road From Ruin,” “if business leaders, shareholders, and consumers want a better capitalism, now may be the best time to remake the system.” Rather than dismissing this type of thinking as unrealistic, perhaps it is time to wake up and smell the (fair trade) coffee. Activities that are physically and mentally stressful help your body react better to stress in everyday life—if they meet three qualifications: 1. They’re dangerous, involving the risk of death. 2. They’re unpredictable, requiring your brain to adjust to changing conditions. 3. And they’re social, increasing the pressure to perform well, whether it’s for teammates or spectators. (Or cheerleaders!)

Some people call this an extreme sport; others call it a form of martial arts or defense practice. Whatever you call it, if you’re doing it with all of your heart then you’re going to find yourself in some precariously scary positions. Basically it involves setting a course for yourself in an urban environment and trying to get through that course as quickly as possible doing things like jumping from one rooftop to another, running up walls and launching yourself off of them and incorporating gymnastics October 27th, 2011 - November 2nd, 2011

CRANING OUT WITH TRAINING AND IN WITH CRANING! The world around you is rapidly being developed and that means that there is probably a good chance that there’s a construction crane somewhere in your area. The art of scaling this crane without any sort of climbing equipment is called craning and it’s something that

adventurous folks are doing more and more often. There are a lot of risks to this sport including the risk of falling, the risk of electrocution from nearby wires and the risk of getting caught scaling equipment that clearly doesn’t belong to you. Ah, but that’s what makes it so terrifying! This activity is basically free although it’s wise to invest in a decent pair of climbing shoes.

GHOST HUNTING

SEARCH

A HEART-POUNDING “BOO”... A SUPERCHARGED “YOU!” It helps to believe in ghosts of course, to engage in this activity. Assuming that you can overcome that mental barrier, there is a lot of fun fear to be experienced by going ghost hunting in the areas of the country that are reported to be most haunted. Whether you do this with a group or in some form of alternative urban exploration may determine how frightening you actually find this activity to be. It’s a cheap thrill at the very least. Unfortunately, getting too serious about this activity can end up costing you money in the end because you’ll find yourself wanting advanced “ghost tracking” equipment. Don’t go getting too cocky on us now.

The Night Owl BY EVELYN ROMANS

Downtown Phoenix Zombie Walk 3 You and everyone you know are going to die one day. Croak, expire, kick the bucket, cash in all one’s chips, DIE. So instead of imagining yourself as a slutty fairy or pirate for Halloween, visualize what you’re going to look like when the blood stops circulating in your veins, your flesh starts decaying, and the fibrous tissue starts falling off your bones like the tender, barbecued ribs you ate last summer. This weekend at Phoenix’s third annual Zombie Walk, you may as well dress the part of your future role so that you won’t be shocked when your departed soul looks down on your grave. Other corpses will be wandering around aimlessly due to practiced zombie dramatics or alcohol intoxication from the beer garden in downtown’s Heritage Square where the All Halloween festival will be held during the day and into the night. The Downtown Phoenix Partnership and X103.9 will attempt to encourage your zombie antics with music, food, and the chance of winning a Zombie costume contest when the sun sets. The Relics and The Recovery Junkies will perform in an effort to remind you of how momentous it is to actually be alive and recognize art in the form of music. This Saturday evening, join the undead and march through the streets of Phoenix. Saturday, October 29th. 4 pm – 10 pm. Free with canned food donation to benefit St. Mary’s Food Bank. All Ages. www. downtownphoenix.com/zombie Haunted Hotel Ball at the Valley Ho Instead of going to a cryptic, potentially awful Halloween house party this year with mediocre decorations and that cottony web-like substance that tends to stick to any form of fabric you’re wearing, consider going to one of the valley’s most exclusive resorts where the alcohol doesn’t stop flowing and the DJs play more than what’s on their favorite, biased playlist. Since there’s a $1000 reward for

best costume, you’re guaranteed to be in awe of the creativity spewing from the minds of individuals who truly ponder on what to disguise themselves as on their favorite holiday of the year. The Hotel Valley Ho on any other day is amazing in itself and if you’ve never been, this Saturday is a good night to go. Envision walking into the Valley Ho’s 8,000 square foot outdoor courtyard and 60 year old ballroom decorated only with the best eerie ornamentation and then dancing amongst the valley’s most beautiful, scantily dressed crowd with fog drifting all around. To add to the festivities, Arizona’s best disc jockeys, DJ Slippe and DJ Breez will ensure you’ll get in your best dance moves in this year’s costume. Feel their electro and top 40 beats pumping through your costumed, alter ego then treat yourself and save yourself from a scary encounter with the police that evening and take advantage of the Halloween special room rate of $189 so you can keep the party going after 2:00. Saturday, October 29th. 9 pm – 2 am. www.hauntedhotelball.com/scottsdale. $30. Ages 21+

“Come on man, I know you’re a sports fan” Its always great to know the places to go for football. I usually write about three random places but I thought I would write one large one and just let you know some awesome places to watch your favorite games and get tasty treats at prices you will love! On Saturdays and Sundays I suggest: Loco Patron and Firehouse for Scottsdale. Loco has ten dollar bottomless mimosas, screw drivers, and bloody marys from 10am-1pm. The bartenders here are probably some of my favorite in all of scottsdale; they really take care of you! Firehouse actually does five dollar bottomless mimosas all day for the ladies; awesome deal right? They both also have special deals on their appetizers. The atmosphere at both these places are casual but firehouse is more of a place to be seen. Four Peaks Brewery IN tempe is another place great for football. Far better than the scottsdale location. I love the way the bar wraps around in the middle of the restaurant. You actually feel like you are in a brewery, and you get to be surrounded by an awesome crowd! While in season I suggest you try the pumpkin porter as the guinness in an irish car bomb! It is so good and a great cheers as you are watching your favorite team! This place is a little hidden but its popular. Anyways, since people are always going out for football I thought I’d share some awesome places with even better deals. Loco Patron: 4228 North Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85251. Firehouse: 4312 North Brown Avenue, Scottsdale, AZ 85251. Four Peaks Brewing Company: 1340 East 8th Street #104, Tempe, AZ 85281
