ARTS! MIM MUSIC THEATER PICK OF THE WEEK Moira Smiley & Voco

Moira Smiley & VOCO is a visionary blend of voices - redefining harmony singing with the power and physicality of folksong, the avantgarde fearlessness of Béla Bartók, and the delicious, vaudevillian accompaniment of cello, banjo, accordion, and body percussion. Moira Smiley leads an ensemble of extraordinary musicians who share a passion for spreading powerful, emotional music with lush four-part vocal harmony, cello, accordion, and banjo. Named #1 a cappella group in the U.S. in 2007, VOCO is the energy of street singing and the elegance of a string quartet. Recently featured in Dirty Linen and on more than 100 radio stations nationwide on NPR’s “Harmonia”, VOCO has released two critically acclaimed CDs in ‘08-’09: “Small Worlds” and “Circle, Square, Diamond & Flag”. Moira Smiley works internationally as a composer-vocalist. Traveling from her hilly Los Angeles perch, she leads her fiery roots vocal-band, moira smiley & VOCO, travels the world as a soloist in early, and traditional music and creates new work with dance,

Moira was the voice for BBC/PBS Sir David Attenborough’s famous “The Life of Birds” and Marie Antoinette’s voice in the feature film “The Affair of the Necklace.” VOCO is sweet, hard-driving Americana mixed with crooked eastern European dance and dissonance. Nick@ Night By Nick Connell I LOVE A PIANO at Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre in Mesa. Just the title of Irving Berlin’s enchanting musical review I LOVE A PIANO is enough to let you know you’re in for some great music and lyrics from one of the greatest musical masters ever. Surround the show with six great voices and a tight orchestra conducted by JR McAlexander-and you have a wonderful evening of song worth every key on the piano! Director Amy Marie McCleary weaves the story and music of Irving with style and feeling through the seven decades of his incredible life. Helping her bring this music to life from Tin Pan Alley in 1910, to the summer stock of the 1950’s, is a talented cast of voices belting out all the hits you’ll love to hear. Starring John Ramsey as George, Mark DiConzo as Alex, Matthew Rickard as Jim, Sarah Dowling as Ginger, Elizabeth Loos as Sadie and Virginia Cavaliere as Eileen-this cast delivers the hits with passion and grace. You’ll love “Putting on the Ritz”, “Blue Skies”, “Cheek to Cheek”, “White Christmas”, “Anything You Can Do”, and our country’s favorite, “God Bless America”. FOOTLOOSE at Arizona Broadway Theatre in Peoria. The energy and enthusiasm of FOOTLOOSE exploded on the stage at Arizona Broadway Theatre in Peoria this month. This is the movie musical adapted to a stage production that simply rocks! Director Joe Martinez has landed his two star crossed lovers in David Errigo as Ren McCormack and Jessica Kaufman as Ariel Moore. Joe’s insight into the outsider story and the workings of a small town farming community are perfect for the stage. Add Kurtis Overby’s choreography with Adam Berger’s musical direction and you have a hit show ready to dance into your heart. David’s courage as Ren to take on the establishment and get the town dancing again is fun to watch. He’s matched up well with Jessica as Ariel, as the two steal the show through the musical hits ‘Footloose”, “Holding Out For A Hero”, “I’m Free”, “Let’s Hear It For The Boy”, and finally “Almost Paradise”. Kudos to D.Scott Withers as the Rev. Shaw and the entire company for making dreams come true again in Footloose. Through July 25th. Tickets 623-776-8400 or AzBroadwayTheatre.com

nearly fifteen years. Reflecting on the band’s longevity and ten best-selling recordings, which have so perfectly epitomized the genre’s many charms, keyboardist Carl Evans, Jr. said, “The key is that we’ve always created music that’s satisfying and gratifying to us artistically, but also speaks clearly to the public. Listeners and fans recognize that we are a true band with team spirit and synergy, and they’re always eager to hear what we have to say.” In an industry notorious for ego clashes, break ups over trivial artistic differences, and ever-evolving shifts in the public’s often fickle tastes, smooth jazz super-group Fattburger—whose irresistible melodic blend of funk, blues, pop and Latin influences is often called “The Sound of San Diego”—has bucked the odds and stayed together for

Bet You Didn’t Know! by Stan Robinson

Silver Screen Scoop! By Joseph J. Airdo Paramount Pictures this week will debut the first teaser for “Paranormal Activity 2” before showings of “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.” Shooting on the horror sequel began last month for an Oct. 22 release. Though his character met his apparent demise in 2008’s “Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay,” Neil Patrick Harris will reprise the role of himself in “A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas,” due in theaters during the 2011 holiday season. David S. Ward has penned a new “Major League” project that he hopes will reunite the original cast of the 1989 sports comedy. The story is said to revolve around Charlie Sheen’s Wild Thing character coming out of retirement to mentor a 19-year-old player. Joseph J. Airdo’s movie reviews and articles are available at Examiner.com/ Phoenix.

By Stan Robinson In July of 1961, TWA Airlines began the first regular in-flight movies in first-class during a NYC to LA flight, with a Bell and Howell projector aimed at a screen to show the movie ‘By Love Possessed’ (1961), starring Lana Turner!

characters from a multitude of countries and nationalities, winning a Best Supporting Actress Oscar® for playing an American business executive in ‘Michael Clayton’ (2007).

Duplass brothers aim to create vibrant and dynamic ‘Cyrus’ Interview by Joseph J. Airdo The moment John C. Reilly and Jonah Hill sat down at the dinner table, filmmakers Jay and Mark Duplass knew they had something special. “It is sort of the first meeting of minds between John’s character and Jonah’s character,” the Duplass brothers said. “It was such a great scene for them to utilize their comedic and dramatic instincts because it feels a lot like that traditional ‘suitor scene’ where you’re going to see the father of the girl you’re trying to date except, this time, it’s the woman’s son who John is having to deal with.” Jay and Mark Duplass wrote and directed the new comedy “Cyrus,” AZWeeklyMagazine.com

in which a man (Reilly) finds himself in a battle of wits with a woman’s enmeshed 21-year-old son (Hill). It is a movie that the filmmakers call “funny, sometimes sad and always a little awkward” thanks to an unusual triangle that forms between the characters. “The key to working with John and Jonah is giving them the guidance they need to feel confident in the scene but also exploring their incredible talent,” the Duplass brothers added, noting how the actors bounced surprises off one another. “That sense of anything can happen in this moment is what we think creates a vibrant and dynamic film.” Read more about Jay and Mark Duplass’s experience shooting “Cyrus” at Get the free mobile app at Examiner.com/ http:/ / gettag.mobi Phoenix.

‘I Am Love’, Oscar® winner Tilda Swinton delivers a stunning performance! Review by Stan Robinson English actress Tilda Swinton’s 25 years of acting has presented

Set around the year of 2000 in Milan, Italy, the film follows the fall of the upper middle class Recchi family. Emma (Tilda Swinton) is Russian, married an Italian when they were young, and live in Milan where her husband has built a very prominent textile company. Emma’s biggest challenge throughout the years was adopt the Italian lifestyle and reign as the head of the Recchi family, seeing to the day-to-day duties of the palatial estate, company social events, and family. As her husband is set to step aside with their son expected to takeover, Emma discovers a secret of her college daughter, while the forces of passion and unconditional love, starts to unravel the biggest secret that Emma is concealing. ‘I Am Love’ is an engaging tragic love story of a woman caught between the life she has and the life she desires. Tilda Swinton excels as Emma, is a delight to watch, and learned Italian and Russian for the part, neither of which she spoke before filming! Add ‘I Am Love’ to your must see list if foreign language films are your favorite genre! In Italian with English subtitles.

respective characters’ weaknesses. Ultimately, both are victims of insecurity. There is a serious undertone to “Cyrus” that draws the audience into the unfolding drama but it always remains lighthearted. In other words, the cast and crew find the perfect balance in a project that will likely find its way on this critic’s best of the year list. Read Joseph J. Earnest ‘Cyrus’ relates with laughter

Now Playing!

Review by Joseph J. Airdo

‘The Last Airbender’, Phoenix joins with fan events

Jay and Mark Duplass’s new comedy “Cyrus” is sweet, sincere and very funny.

In fact, thanks to the Duplass brothers’ quirky screenplay and the actors’ peculiar performances, “Cyrus” encourages moviegoers to howl with laughter. Perhaps an even more admirable quality is the movie’s heart. It is rare to find a motion picture with such genuine emotion as “Cyrus.” John C. Reilly portrays John, a man who, under the most unusual of circumstances, meets Molly (Marisa Tomei), a compassionate woman who appears drawn to his vulnerability. However, John soon discovers that Molly’s unconventional relationship with her 21-year-old son Cyrus (Jonah Hill) is an impenetrable roadblock on his way to love. As filmmakers, the Duplass brothers have crafted the perfect vehicle to showcase Reilly and Hill’s amazing eccentricity. The two actors are at the top of their game here portraying characters that are as authentic as they are funny. In fact, most of the material’s strength relies on Reilly and Hill’s innate charm. “Cyrus” could have easily fallen into goofy territory but the actors skillfully unveil their

The Papa John’s restaurant franchise was founded in 1984 when “Papa” John Schnatter knocked out a broom closet in the back of his father’s tavern and sold his prized 1972 Z28 Camaro to purchase $1,600 worth of used pizza equipment. He began selling pizzas to the tavern’s customers out of the converted closet, and his pizzas proved so popular that only one year later he was able to move into an adjoining space. He didn’t stop there, however, and by 2005, he had opened nearly 3,000 Papa John’s restaurants in the United States and 20 international markets.

The Manic Organic Have you ever really checked out the packaging on all the food you are buying at the grocery store? If your a regular reader of this column most of you probably are in the habit of doing so. But when you do check the ingredients on the food you are buying you should also check to see where the food is coming from as well. There was a big deal - still going on I believe - about Whole Foods and where their food was coming from. Get this, their “California Vegetable Blend” was produced in China. A bit misleading, at the least. I also noticed something peculiar the other day as well. A lot of the produce at Trader Joe’s is from Mexico, and some of the produce from Ranch Market is from California. Go figure. Bottom line, check out the packaging for all info. You’ll find certifications, the USDA mumbo-jumbo and the state or country of origin. Knowledge is power when going organic. Think about it. - MO

SELECTING A FINE CIGAR The first thing anyone should do when buying a cigar is make sure it’s fresh. Cigars tend to dry up in less than 24 hours after their removal from the humidor. The easiest way to know if a cigar is fresh is to pinch it with two fingers; the wrapper and the binder should be tender. If the cigar is hard and the wrapper cracks, it’s a sure sign of its poor condition. While looking in a cigar box, you should notice the color of all the cigars, not just one. Since quality cigars come in the same shade, discoloration is another sign of a bad stogie. Stay sharp and choose wisely darling.

BEER! SECTION

BEER! Beer has always been an important part of life in America. Dating back to 1620 when the Pilgrims made the decision to cut their trip short a little early and land at Plymouth Rock. This was slightly north of where they had been given a patent to land, but they felt they had no choice in part because, according to a 1622 document called “Mourt’s Relation,” We could not now take time for further search or consideration, our victuals being much spent, especially our beer…” So there you have it, the Mayflower Compact, and everything that came with it was decided, at least partially, by a low supply of beer.

George Washington was a fan of Porter; Ben Franklin preferred wine, but was known to knock down a pint or two in a social setting; John Adams always started his day with a glass of hard cider; Patrick Henry served home brew to his guests while governor of Virginia; and Samuel Adams managed his father’s brewery. All in all, beer was a big part of the culture and an important part of our forefathers’ lifestyle. The Boston Tea Continued on Page 25...

beer fanatics love

Although by this time, the folks at Jamestown had already been settled for several years and they were fond of drinking a corn ale that was easy to make since corn was abundant in that part of the area. And the first commercial brewery had been established by the Dutch in New Amsterdam (now New York) in 1612. Throughout the newly emerging colonies, beer was a part of everyday live. Of course, not all of the consumption was strictly for the love of beer. Not having figured out modern methods of water treatment, and knowing that the brewing process did remove harmful bacteria and such from the water, early settlers drank beer because it was the safest beverage to drink. That’s at least part of the reason that the average soon-to-be American in the 1700’s drank 34 gallons of beer each year.

The beers consumed in Colonial America were ales, which was logical because most of the early settlers were of English extraction. In 1840, in Philadelphia, John Wagner produced what was probably the first lager produced in America. Twenty years later, just around the corner from Wagner’s home, a brewery that became Ortlieb’s was started. The Ortlieb’s brand has been sold several times, but now it is produced in Baltimore in very limited quantities. Pre-dating all that however, was the founding of the brewery that has become synonymous with lagers

Party of Revolutionary War fame could just as easily been the Boston Cider Party as the ship adjacent to the ship of tea that was famously dumped to protest taxes contained a shipment of cider. Instead of dumping that, the mob raided the ship and spent the rest of the day getting drunk off of cider. Of course, that could have made some interesting changes in today’s political landscape.

the repeal of Prohibition by sending then President Franklin Roosevelt a truckload of their “Winner” beer, notable if for no other reason than it takes three weeks to brew the beer, and it arrived on the day of the repeal. In 1844, Jacob Best and his sons found Best Brewing in Milwaukee. The brewery eventually ended up in the hands of Philip Best who left it to his son-in-law. The new owner was Frederick Pabst who changed the name of the brewery to Pabst and by 1900 Pabst Brewing Company was the largest beer producer in the world. Philip’s brother, Carl set up a brewery right outside of Milwaukee, but his Plank Road Brewery quickly fell in to bankruptcy. It was rescued by a man named Frederick Miller, who turned the company

... continued from Page 27 around and put his name on the front door. The final stop on the tour of the Miller Brewery is the original cave where Best Brewery’s beers were lagered. Not too much after this, out in the small town of Golden, Colorado, Adolph Coors opened his brewery. For years Coors beers were a regional product as immortalized in the movie, “Smokey and the Bandit”. However, now Coors is available everywhere and the Golden brewery is the single largest brewing facility in the world. The German dominance in brewing sprung up everywhere and the flavorful ales of Colonial days slowly faded away. German lagers were consumed by just about everybody and it seemed as if ales were never going to be brewed again in America. Of course we all know differently now. Thanks to several craft brewing pioneers of the 1960s and 70s, ales made a strong comeback. While lagers remain the largest category

of beer sold in America thanks to the large domestic breweries, there is plenty of ability to find any of a variety of ales in the craft brew world. So as we enter the Independence Day weekend, we should remember not just the common history of the Revolution, but the great beer that our Founding Fathers gave us to get us started. So, as you are opening up a couple of cold beers this weekend, might we suggest some particularly appropriate ones? Grand Canyon American Pilsner is a great start, brewed in a traditional pilsner style with a uniquely American take, this beer should be in your cooler. Bear Republic Red Rocket – what better beer to drink while watching the fireworks explode? Avery Anniversary Ale to celebrate the anniversary of our independence, or Port Brewing Anniversary Ale works just fine too. Dale’s Pale Ale from Oskar Blues in its red, white and blue cans is appropriate, as is a Bell’s Oberon. Available year round in Arizona, this beer is only brewed in the rest of the

Bars from New York to Houston to San Francisco enjoyed the World Cup’s early-morning first-round

GAME! we wouldn’t even be open yet,” said Jason King, general manager of the Claddagh Irish Pub outside Detroit, where about 100 fans clad in red, white and blue drank beer at 10 a.m. and cheered for the U.S. team playing against Slovenia. Edgar was a huge underdog heading into his April match against incumbent champion B.J. Penn when the two squared off in Abu Dhabi. Edgar came in with the perfect strategy and approach to the fight, and ended up getting a unanimous decision win, while also becoming the UFC lightweight champion. Running against Edgar in the “Upset of the Year” category will be Hawaii’s lady softball team defeating top ranked Alabama to get to the College World Series, Northern Iowa’s improbable defeat of the No. 1 seeded Kansas in the NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament, and Y.E. Wish you could be in Hawaii right now? Silly question isn’t it. The next best thing to any vacation is snagging the idea and creating it unsuccessfully in a themed party at your house. Thankfully the Theodore Hotel in Scottsdale has taken the responsibility upon themselves and went out of its way to give you what you want- a fire roasted pig. I’m serious. The Blue Bar Pool will be transformed into a traditional Luau. A Hawaiian floor show and DJ will keep you entertained while you devour a scrumptious Buffett of everything from Sugar-Cane Skewered Shrimp to Ahi Tuna Poke and of course the smoked Kahlua Pig. A perk is making this into a mini vacation and getting a special discount room rate and even tickets to next morning’s pool event- that is, if all those Hawaiian specialty drinks don’t overdo it for you. www.hoteltheodore.com 480.308.1100 4th of July Fireworks at Compass AZ Grill and Restaurant. 4th of July is filled with family, patriotism, fireworks, some form of alcohol and usually a few tears. Good stuff aside, it’s also filled with traffic, filled parking spaces and watching firework fragments through your car windshield. Sound familiar? This year I suggest we class it up and make a dinner reservation. But wait the fireworks!!

Don’t worry I have that covered too. Remember a little place called Compass Grill at the top of the Hyatt Regency Hotel? That’s right, it is that one swanky restaurant perfectly situated on the 24th floor with panoramic glass walls. Oh yeah - and it revolves - slowly. In other words you have a 360 degree view of the city below and all the magic in the sky. All alongside cocktails, contemporary cuisine and the lack of crying children. Reservations for 2 please! 602 440 3166 call for reservations, seating starts at 7pm. www.phoenix.hyatt.com NFL Mansion Pool Party July 4th. VIP Entertainment has decided to get us all in a festive 4th of July mood by throwing a NFL mansion pool party. Now a mansion party sounds like a pretty good idea in the first place. Yet you can always spice it up by adding a few things. For example; 5 DJs spinning HipHop/RnB/Top 40, magazine model contests, a live performance, and a free party bus picking you up from Fashion Square Mall. So forget the car and be ready to catch the free shuttle every 30 min. Ladies wear you bikinis for free entrance. The party goes from noon to 6pm. More info call 480.797.6233

What’s With The Worm? A worm is never present in Tequila, but it can be present in a bottle of Mescal.

PREMIER MARGARITA MENU

Originally, the worm was reputed to have aphrodisiac powers. The worms actually reside inside the agave plant and are harvested and stored for processing toward the end of the manufacturing process. Not all Mescals have a worm. Like the drink, it is an acquired taste.

ROCK LEGEND MEAT LOAF HEADED BACK TO THE VALLEY

Rock legend Meat Loaf brings his North American summer tour to the Valley’s intimate Celebrity Theatre at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 22nd with special guest, daughter Pearl Aday. For the past 35 years, the man born Marvin Lee Aday has been a towering monument on the musical landscape. Meat Loaf’s legendary 1977 album Bat Out Of Hell transformed the former high school football player, nightclub bouncer and stage actor into one of the great American rock ‘n’ roll icons. That record, with its staggering operatic sound and impassioned vocals, has sold more than 43 million albums worldwide - still one of the biggest selling records ever. Now, more than 30 years after he exploded onto the world stage, Meat Loaf is back with a new record, Hang Cool Teddy Bear (a title taken from a line in the classic Russ Meyer trash movie Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls). The project was produced by Rob Cavallo and features guest appearances by Jack Black, Hugh Laurie, Kara DioGuardi, Queen’s Brian May and Steve Vai. ‘Hang Cool’ is Meat Loaf’s 11th studio effort. From opener “Peace On Earth” to closer “Elvis In Vegas,” its 13 tracks drag the classic Meat Loaf sound kicking and screaming into the 21st century. “It’s the story of a soldier,” reveals Meat Loaf. More than four decades into his career, the man - and his voice - is as big, bold and important as ever.

Bret Michaels to Headline Zappos.com

Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon

Rock musician and reality TV star Bret Michaels has embarked on a comeback, and he’ll do it Rock ‘n’ Roll style when he performs for the more than 30,000 runners at the Zappos.com Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon & ½ Marathon to benefit the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America on Sunday, December 5th. The free concert will cap an electrifying weekend of rocking and running as race participants span across all 8 lanes of Las Vegas Boulevard, shutting down the Las Vegas Strip in AZWeeklyMagazine.com

As the stepdaughter of legendary performer Meat Loaf, Pearl Aday was exposed to the genre and all it entails almost from the time she was born. She sang back for Meat Loaf from 1994 to 2003, then Motley Crue, and now has her own release entitled Little Immaculate White Fox. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Celebrity Theatre is conveniently located on 440 N. 32nd St., just 4 blocks south of the Loop 202 freeway, in Phoenix. Free parking! Tickets ($65, $80 and $95) are on sale at Celebrity Theatre or online at www. celebritytheatre.com. To charge by phone, call 602-2671600 ext. 1.

extraordinary fashion. Michaels will take the stage at the finish line festival immediately following the race where runners will celebrate to the sounds of party anthems and power ballads after running along a high energy, action packed course down “The Strip.” Michaels launched his career as lead singer for the legendary rock band Poison, which has sold 25 million records and scored an amazing 15 chartbusting Top 40 singles including “Talk Dirty to Me,” “Something to Believe In,” “Nothing But a Good Time” and the timeless #1 smash “Every Rose Has its Thorn.” Last month, he won Donald Trump’s “Celebrity Apprentice,” returning to the show after being hospitalized for an emergency appendectomy and brain hemorrhage. Michaels has also earned enormous ratings with his reality show “Rock of Love” and has a new series “Bret Michaels: Life As I Know It” set to air this fall on VH1. With his upcoming new studio album Custom Built scheduled to be released on July 6, Michaels is rocking his way across the country for the “Custom Built” 2010 tour. He sees the Zappos.com Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon as a way to not only help others though its charity partnership, but to make it clear how important it is to live life to the fullest and to never give up on your goals and dreams. “He has made it clear he is sick and tired of being in the hospital and is ready to rock again,” said his representative, Janna Elias. Online registration for both the 2010 marathon and half marathon is open at lasvegas.competitor.com.

It took Elvis Presley 31 takes of “Hound Dog” to get the final version that we hear today. In 1988, the song was named the most played record of all time on American juke boxes.

In order to give fans a “gold record”, the first 100,000 copies of “We’re An American Band” by Grand Funk Railroad were stamped out of gold colored vinyl.

There are five houses of different colors next to each other on the same road. In each house lives a man of a different nationality. Every man has his favorite drink, his favorite brand of cigarettes, and keeps pets of a particular kind. Using the clues below, can you tell who keeps fish as a pet? The Englishman lives in the red house. The Swede keeps dogs. The Dane drinks tea. The green house is just to the left of the white one. The owner of the green house drinks coffee. The Pall Mall smoker keeps birds. The owner of the yellow house smokes Dunhills. The man in the center house drinks milk. The Norwegian lives in the first house. The Blend smoker has a neighbor who keeps cats. The man who smokes Blue Masters drinks bier. The man who keeps horses lives next to the Dunhill smoker. The German smokes Prince. The Norwegian lives next to the blue house. The Blend smoker has a neighbor who drinks water.

FIREWORKS DISPLAY Recession? No problem. Harold’s Cave Creek Corral and Carefree Resort & Conference Center are stepping up to the plate to pay for and host Cave Creek’s annual “3rd of July” Fireworks Display at Harold’s Cave Creek Corral, 6895 E. Cave Creek Rd. at sunset on Saturday, July 3. The Hideaway, The Horny Toad, The Buffalo Chip, El Encanto, and TriRentals have also made contributions, but more financial support is being sought by local businesses. The popular fireworks display, which has been a tradition at Harold’s for more than two decades, was funded in part by the Town of Cave Creek and hosted by the non-profit Cave Creek Chamber of Commerce until budget cuts threatened the event last year. Determined to host the patriotic event, Harold’s and several other local businesses made contributions to cover the costs of last year’s fireworks event. This year, the Town of Cave Creek is covering the cost of sheriff deputies for traffic control. “The Town of Cave Creek and its businesses, non-profits, and residents continue to face serious economic challenges,” said Danny Piacquadio, coowner of Harold’s Cave Creek Corral. “We need to once again unite as a community to help each other through these difficult times. We believe the expense to produce this event is a worthwhile investment to band our community together, honor the foresight and courage of our forefathers, AZWeeklyMagazine.com

and show respect to all the brave service men and women who work so hard to protect our freedom.” Carefree Resort & Conference Center’s special rates and free shuttle for resort guests add an extra incentive for people to enjoy a “stay-cation.” Room rates are $59 for Saturday, July 3 and $45 per night for both Friday and Saturday, July 2 & 3 based on a two night stay. Drink specials will be pool side Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and guests can enjoy a special breakfast buffet for $11.95 on Saturday and Sunday mornings at the resort. “We are very excited to be co-sponsoring this event and to make this happen for the local residents and community,” said Edwin W. Leslie, president & CEO of Bridlie Hospitality Management, Inc. which operates the Carefree Resort and Conference Center. “This is merely our way of supporting the community in as many ways as we can.” Keeping with tradition, Harold’s is planning a large party with live entertainment starting at 5 p.m. with an outside barbecue. EastonAshe will energize the crowd outside from 7 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Country-western band Young Country will perform inside from 8:30 p.m. to closing. The festive evening will also feature drink specials, prizes, face painting, and the Games2U Mobile Video Theater, a self-powered truck featuring all the top games for systems XBox 360, Playstation 3, and Wii. Admission to the 3rd of July Fireworks Display is free, but reservations will be necessary. Call Harold’s at (480) 4881906 or visit www.haroldscorral.com.
