Erik L. Preminger, son of legendary burlesque star, Gypsy Rose Lee, will screen his home movies depicting his mother’s remarkable life at the Arizona Broadway Theatre on January 19, 2010, with dinner beginning at 5:30 p.m. followed by a screening of the film at 7:30 p.m. Preminger (the son of Gypsy Rose Lee and film director Otto Preminger) will narrate the program, which features never-before-seen footage that documents some of Lee’s stage performances, vacations, and personal appearances. Footage also includes Lee’s surprise visit to the rehearsal for the original production of the musical Gypsy. Years later, when Bette Midler began work on the 1993 television version of Gypsy, Midler wanted to know Lee’s real story, so Preminger started to put together some home movie footage, much of which he had shot as a child. Gypsy Rose Lee’s Home Movies

shows Lee as a loving mother, a show business phenomenon and a world-class character – hardly your stereotypical stripper. Erik L. Preminger has been in show business all of his life – from assisting his mother, Gypsy Rose Lee, to working with his father, Otto Preminger, to being a movie producer, actor, screenwriter, author, documentary filmmaker, television writer/producer, entertainment reporter and movie critic. “When I was 6 months old, my mother wrapped me in a blanket and drove to Cleveland for a two-week engagement at the Latin Quarter,” Preminger recalled. “From then until I began college at Columbia University, I was constantly by my mother’s side as she performed her striptease in nightclubs and theatres all over the world.” For tickets and additional information about gift cards, special events packages, information about the Academy for Young Performers program, or to become an ABT subscriber, call the Box Office at 623.776.8400 or visit www. azbroadwaytheatre.com

PATSY’S BRIDAL SHOWER PREMIERES AT BROADWAY PALM Chicago Interactive Comedy Hit Takes a New Spin for Valley Audiences PATSY’S BRIDAL SHOWER, an interactive comedy when cash meets trash by Nick Kurasz and Richard Schultz, premieres in the Marquee Room at the Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre, on Friday, January 15th. Bridal showers in the Valley may never been the same again! This comedy hit ran for five years in Naperville, a suburb west of Chicago; it delighted audiences with its tale of two dysfunctional families who attempt to forge a bond at a bridal shower just weeks before the wedding. This new version updated for the Valley is set in Buckeye where the bride’s family resides in a doublewide trailer, while the groom’s family heralds from a gated community in Paradise Valley. Friends and family members unexpectedly drop in on the festivities resulting in a surprise ending. Audiences are asked to play along with shower games and to help the young couple makes decisions

about their upcoming wedding. Chicago critics raved that PATSY’S BRIDAL SHOWER is “wacky fun” and “a goofy romp that has everyone laughing.” Performances begin Friday, January 15th through Sunday, May 9th. Adult ticket prices are $39 and include a buffet meal. Show and dessert seats are available for $24. Student rush show and dessert tickets are $12 and available 30 minutes prior to curtain to currently enrolled high school and college students with a valid school ID. Tickets may be purchased online at broadwaypalmwest.com or by calling the Box Office at (480) 325-6700. Richard Schultz, a resident of Central Phoenix, updated the script for the Valley. He explained his decision to bring back the comedy, “2009 was such a daunting year for all of us. The charm of PATSY’S BRIDAL SHOWER has always been its ability to rejuvenate audiences through the transformative power of laughter.” He added, “In remembering how much Chicago audiences enjoyed PATSY’S BRIDAL SHOWER, it seemed like the ideal time to stage

the show again as a funny diversion for Valley audiences.” Schultz, who is a member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society and has a MFA in Directing from Illinois State University, has directed throughout the Valley including the Herberger Theatre, Tempe Center for the Arts, Center for the Performing Arts at Paradise Valley Community College and Theatreworks. He is a founder of a performing arts charter school in North Phoenix. Owner Tom Prather commented, “M. Seth Reines, Artistic Director of the Broadway Palm Theatre, brought the script to my attention. When I read the script, I found it very funny. After hearing the script read by a group of our actors, I was sold and knew our audiences would fall in love with the zany characters and the chance to play along with the cast.” The cast of nine features local actors from throughout the Valley. As we continue our run to March 7th, 2010 and the 82nd Oscars®, the first person nominated for an Oscar® as a producer, an actor and the screenwriter in a single year is, Charles Chaplin for “The Great Dictator” (1941)!

“The Lovely Bones”, director Peter Jackson’s smaller yet powerful movie! Director Peter Jackson, who has become synonymous with his big budget large-scale presentations of “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy and “King Kong”, demonstrates his expertise as a filmmaker and storyteller with “The Lovely Bones”. It’s a smaller scaled thriller centering on a murdered 14-year-old girl, who’s watching over her family, and, her killer, from heaven. Her dilemma is weighing her desire for vengeance against her wishes for her family to heal and for closure. Peter Jackson presents a moving story with cinematic images that firmly places us in two worlds, that of the every day world we experience regularly and the surrealistic heavenly world of the murdered young girl. The young actress Saoirse Ronan, is on my list of best actresses of 2009, Stanley Tucci delivers an eerie deliberate performance and makes my best supporting actor list, and “The Lovely Bones” is on my best cinematography list! “The Book of Eli” As a movie reviewer, we have our favorite genres of movies. Admittedly mine are the apocalyptic or postapocalyptic stories of mankind adjusting or readjusting to a changed world due to global catastrophe, whether man or nature causes it. My favorites include the Mad Max movies with Mel Gibson, the Resident Evil movie series starring Milla Jovovich, and my best picture choice for 2009 “The Road”. Academy Award® winner Denzel Washington stars as the ‘lone warrior’ who fights his way across the desolate wasteland that is now America after a war that tore a hole in the sky some thirty years ago, in order to protect a sacred book that holds the secrets that can bring civilization back from the edge of total destruction. I had the experience of working with director twin brothers, Albert and Allen Hughes, on “Dead Presidents” (1995) who are now stepping into the mainstream with their latest, “The Book of Eli”. You can read my review at www.ScreenScene.org

“The Spy Next Door” In this comedy adventure, former CIA spy Bob Ho (Jackie Chan) takes on his toughest assignment to date: looking after his girlfriend’s three kids, who haven’t exactly been the best of kids to their mom’s boyfriend. The ex-spy has his hands full when one of the youngsters accidentally downloads a top-secret formula, and his longtime nemesis, a Russian terrorist, pays a visit to the family! Starring Jackie Chan, Amber Valletta, Madeline Carroll, Will Shadley, Alina Foley, Magnús Scheving, Katherine Boecher, Lucas Till, Billy Ray Cyrus, and George Lopez. Directed by Brian Levant; written by Jonathan Bernstein & James Greer; Lionsgate release. Rated PG for sequences of action violence and some mild rude humor. Runtime: 92 minutes.

With the year coming to a close, December was a time to reflect on the hundreds of films released over the course of the previous twelve months. There were plenty of blockbusters to consider, as well as several smaller independent films that I had the pleasure of viewing, which made a lasting impact. I may be one of the only critics in the country to not include the mega-hit Avatar in my top ten list, but there were just too many others vowing for my attention. The following list are my “Top Ten Films of 2009.”

is also noteworthy. This one came and went out of theatres quickly. While audiences didn’t flock to it, critics did take note, and trust us… it is an absolute must-see. In 2005, I had the opportunity to see an emotionally charged Danish film called Brødre. The story followed two brothers and the aftermath left on the family when one was pronounced dead during the war in Afghanistan. Brothers, The Hollywood remake starring Tobey Maguire and Jake Gyllenhaal was just as powerful. Watch for the performances by the young girls that play Maguire’s daughters. This is just as good, if not better as the original.

(Listed in alphabetical order)

Goodbye Solo played for a few weeks at Harkins Camelview 5 and audiences that took the risk on this little-known film were greatly rewarded. Set in a small town in North Carolina, the plot follows two men of extremely different backgrounds and their odd friendship that culminates into the most memorable endings ever. If it weren’t for The Hurt Locker ‘s heart-pounding bomb sequences, this low-budget film would be my #1 pick of the year.

Brothers The Burning Plain District 9 Goodbye Solo The Hurt Locker Inglorious Basterds Julie & Julia Star Trek Up Up in the Air

My guess is that you have never heard of The Burning Plain and probably for good reason. The indie played the Phoenix Film Festival but received little love in theatres, although I am not sure why. Intertwining lives connect in this difficult to follow (but well worth the trouble) drama that features mesmerizing performances by Charlize Theron and Kim Basinger. An intricate plot makes for some fancy editing and strong acting. It captured my attention.

Of the best movies, my number one pick is The Hurt Locker. Director Kathryn Bigelow’s edge of your seat war pic about officers in the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit within the U.S. Army’s Bravo Company stationed in Iraq packs a punch. Jeremy Renner’s performance

were enough to make me a fan and make this one appear on my Top Ten list.

Politically charged and intellectual; words not usually used to describe a sci-fi flick about aliens hovering over earth. But District 9 is a well-written, smart film about colonizing space creatures into the slums of South Africa. While the stars of the film were from another planet, the impact they had on their surroundings and the response from locals translates into any language in the world on the immigration debate and the relocating of individuals. Brilliant.

Randy Montgomery’s “Best Movies of 2009!”

The first thirty or so minutes of Disney/Pixar’s UP were enough to qualify it for my “best of” list for the year. The remaining hour was a bonus. Far and away the studios’ most touching and heartfelt production to date. Not mention one of the most creative and funny. You will fall in love with the animated human characters and get a kick out of the animals. Pack your bags, you’ll want to go on an adventure of your own.

Quentin Tarantino has come up with some crazy stories before, but none have been as brutal, or as ingenious as Inglorious Basterds. The “basterds” are a group of JewishAmerican soldiers that were chosen to stop Hitler and stop the Nazi Army during WWII. No one said this is supposed to be historically accurate. Fans of WWII films and cinephiles will love this bloody romp. Although broken down into “chapters,” I would not study this film for a history exam. I cannot cook. I cannot even make toast without setting off the smoke detector, but I love The Food Network and I loved Julie & Julia, a likeable film about French cooking maven Julia Child and a New York City blogger who chose to devote her life to making every recipe Child wrote in world famous cook book. This was a late summer sleeper hit that had “awards” written all over it. Yummy and funny! Being a “Trekkie” had never crossed my mind until I saw 2009’s Star Trek. The classic story had been remade for the umpteenth time, but this go-around was unlike any other. It played out much more as a traditional drama than a campy science fiction television series. The performances, storyline and special effects AZWeeklyMagazine.com

Being proud of my Southwest Airlines’ A-List Card (having flown nearly two-dozen round trips last year), I had to somewhat identify with George Clooney’s character in Up in the Air. Clooney stars as a lonely soul whose main purpose in life is to rack up airline miles while he flies around the country firing people for work. His mission changes when he meets a fellow female frequent flier and love blossoms in various hotel rooms. So there you have it… you have some work to do. Head out to your multiplex to catch Brothers, The Hurt Locker and Up in the Air. The rest you can find on DVD (or put them in your queue for when they are released). Here’s to 2010! Of the best movies, my best picture is “The Road”, starring Viggo Mortensen and Kodi Smit-McPhee in

“Avatar”; directed by James Cameron, has set a new bar for the next generation of sci-fi adventure fantasy movies. Incorporating the latest in technology, merging with traditional filmmaking techniques including 3-D which didn’t leap out at you but drew one into the world he created, shouldn’t be missed!

“Brothers”; with a story centering on a young man who comforts his older brother’s wife and children after he goes missing in Afghanistan, presents a milieu’ of circumstances for armed forces personnel in the war zone, and on the home front, with exceptional

“District 9”; writer/director Neill Blomkamp, on a very limited budget, delivers a first rate sci-fi thriller cinematically and story wise, of extraterrestrials who’s space craft runs out of fuel and are forced to live in slum-like conditions on Earth and find an ally in a government agent who is exposed to their biotechnology.

“Inglourious Basterds”; Writer/ director Quentin Tarantino once again dazzle’s us with his unique chapter style of story telling of Nazi-occupied France during World War II, and a group of Jewish-American soldiers known as “The Basterds” who’s objective is to spread fear throughout the Third Reich by scalping and brutally killing Nazis. It’s irreverent, funny, entertaining, and presented as only Tarantino can!

“Nine”; Directed by Rob Marshall, who won an Oscar® for the musical “Chicago” (2002), delivers another musical/drama with outstanding performances by the cast, with his story of a famous film director who struggles to find harmony in his professional and personal lives, as he engages in dramatic relationships with his wife, his mistress, his muse, his agent, and his mother!

“Precious”; Director Lee Daniels, with many of his cast of first time actors and recording artists in dramatic roles, presents a poignant story that takes place in Harlem, of an overweight, illiterate teen who is pregnant with her second child and invited to enroll in an alternative school in hopes that her life can head in a new direction. It’s an uneasy story to watch yet has one mesmerized by the very depth of basic story. “Sherlock Holmes”; This presentation of the fictional character with the most movies appearances in

“Star Trek”; Director J. J. Abrams who has honed his skills on the award winning TV series “Lost”, undertook and succeeded in bringing to the screen, a chronicle of the early days of James T. Kirk and his fellow USS Enterprise crew members. With many Star Trek TV series’ and movies since 1966, J. J. Abrams presents a fresh view of the timeless phenomenon of Star Trek. “The Informant!”; Actor Matt Damon steps completely out of the dramatic role of Jason Bourne and gained 30+ pounds for the comedy/drama of the story, based on the true events, of The US government’s decision to go after an agribusiness corporate empire with a price-fixing accusation, based on the evidence submitted by their star witness, vice president turned informant, Mark Whitacre. “The Young Victoria”; a view of Alexandrina Victoria, who became Queen at 18 years old and reigned as Queen for 63 years, longer than any other British monarch before or since, and is the longest of any female monarch in history. The movie presents the splendor, pomp and circumstance of the time, and the insightfulness of her reign known as the ‘Victorian era’ (1837-1901), a period of industrial, political, scientific, and military progress in the United Kingdom. “Up in the Air”; Actor George Clooney gives us a like-able character with an unlike-able job, a job that has him traveling around the country firing people, and leads an empty life out of a suitcase with which he finds his own brand of enjoyment, until his company does the unexpected: the ground him! George Clooney’s skill of intertwining comedy and drama is the unifying force that makes this movie a treat to watch. So, there you have it, my best movies of 2009! What are some of your favorite movies of the past year? Let me know, Movies@ StanRobinson.org

Tim Allen is Crazy on the Outside By Randy Montgomery Crazy on the Outside is funnyman Tim Allen’s big screen directorial debut. The comedy stars Allen as Tommy, a newly released jailbird trying to set his life straight in a world filled with family and old friends that make life working at Pirate Burger hard to cope with. In his own words, Allen describes the film to be about “…second chances. A guy hits bottom and how he decides which way to go. It’s happened to me and happened to friends of mine. Once you hit rock bottom, where do you go? Tommy was second strike for video piracy. It’s not a violent crime, but he steals movies with his friend Gray (Ray Liotta). He got caught and Ray didn’t. He’s getting out of jail and his sister is a chronic liar and is bound and determined to white lie him into doing the right thing.” Allen has his own outlook at the roller coaster called life. “High and lows are different colors of the same thing; this journey. Directing, getting the film financed and letting audiences know about Crazy on the Outside was not an easy task. “This is an adult comedy. I had to go sell it,” says Allen. “I did a lot of prep. The most daunting thing about directing; decisions, about 800 decisions a day. That part isn’t as daunting as this (putting the film out to audiences). I put the film out there, I financed it. A PIZZA HISTORY Redbrick Pizza Unveils World’s First Acai Berry, Multigrain Whole Wheat Artisan Pizza Crust RedBrick Pizza Worldwide has announced that its newest pizza crust is made with the Açai Berry, a

fruit known for its health-promoting, antioxidant properties. Using the açai berry in the whole wheat, multigrain artisan crust is unique in the industry, according to RedBrick Pizza’s President Jim Minidis. “We are very excited about the release of this phenomenal pizza— the first ever of its kind in the world,” said Minidis. “A typical whole wheat pizza tends to be dry and bland, but RedBrick’s whole wheat artisan crust has a unique, flavorful taste because of the combination of the açai berry, 100 percent pure virgin olive oil and multigrains,” explained Minidis. Fire-roasted in just three minutes at 1000˚ in RedBrick ovens, the gourmet pizza is unbelievably moist, yet crunchy. “We stand behind our claim that RedBrick pizzas are healthier and better for our customers because they have less calories, fat, carbohydrates and sodium than ordinary pizzas,” said Minidis. RedBrick’s fire-roasted gourmet pizzas offer a number of healthy benefits. The dough is hand rolled fresh each day, and only pure virgin olive oil is used, which is high in monounsaturated fat—the healthy fat. The red sauce contains lycopene, a powerful antioxidant found in tomatoes. All of the meats used in RedBrick pizzas contain no artificial flavors or additives and are lean and low in sodium. The dressings used in the chopped salads are made with no trans fat, while the fire-roasted croutons are prepared fresh daily with heart-healthy olive oil. Whether you are having a family night out or a lunch with coworkers, you are sure to feel healthier and energized after eating RedBrick’s alternative to ordinary pizza. 2010 Specialty Beer Preview

Arizona is rapidly becoming known as a first-rate beer state, and with that distinction comes more great breweries and more of the specialty beers. Bell’s Brewery has long been known for making great everyday beers… Nobody can dispute the great taste of Oberon, Two Hearted, Kalamazoo Stout or the flagship Amber. But, like many breweries, there is another side to Bell’s: The limited release specialty beer. Bell’s makes a large variety of them, most of which are of the stout variety, and many of which will be available in Arizona in January and February. Let’s take a look at what we can expect to see: Hopslam – This is one of the big hitters for Bell’s. A wonderful double IPA which the brewery describes a “biting, bitter, tongue bruiser of an ale”, this beer is loaded with hops and is definitely for the serious hop head. Hopslam is the frequent subject of favorable comparisons with Pliny the Elder from Russian River, considered

malt and five times the hops of the Kalamazoo stout, this beer is great to drink right now, but is perfect for cellaring. Give it a year or two and watch how it evolves.

by many to be the holy grail of double IPAs. That would explain the perfect 100 rating that Hopslam gets from the folks at RateBeer. This will also be available on draft. Java Stout – “Only” 98 points for this beer, it brings some amazing complexity. Made with the finest coffee from Sumatra, rich chocolate and roasted malt, Java Stout is a truly enlightening beer.

Special Double Cream Stout – This is a sweet and smooth stout, a different take on the style from the folks at Bell’s. This is great with chocolate desserts, or try it by itself, or maybe even for an ice cream float. The Black Note, a special blend of this beer and Expedition which is then barrel aged, is a special beer and almost never seen outside of Michigan, although one keg did make it into Arizona in November.

Expedition Stout – Another 100 point beer, this is the darkest beer made by Bell’s. Packed with twice the

Cherry Stout - This unique ale begins its life as a powerful and richly sweet stout to which Michigan tart cherries are added. The resulting black brew is complex, sweet and tart with a distinct cherry finish. It too will improve with cellaring. A great counterpoint to the Java Stout.

Third Coast Old Ale – A Barleywine by definition, this is the brandy of ales. Deep and rich with flavor that doesn’t end, sip this beer on a cold February night in a brandy snifter. It will age indefinitely in your cellar so don’t hesitate to lay some of this down and compare it to future

Still More Brews Coming… Bell’s is not the only brewery that makes special, limited release beers and sends them to Arizona. In the coming weeks, we will see Victory at Sea from Ballast Point in San Diego. Like the Dorado Double IPA or the Sculpin from this brewery, Victory at Sea is a big beer done in a big way. The style is Coffee Vanilla Imperial Porter and that says it all. Rich, flavorful and complex, this beer is not for the faint of heart. It will be available in bottles and on draft. Also coming to the market is our very own Sonoran Brewing’s 200. Sonoran releases a truly unique and limited beer every

100 batches. This beer will be a high alcohol (19.37%) still beer flavored with the finest agave nectar and aged for almost a full year. No description can do it justice, it needs to be experienced. Look for it in a unique collector’s bottle. Specialty beers come in all shapes and sizes from the dark to the light, from high gravity high alcohol beers to lower alcohol beers, from small bottles to big bottles. The one thing they all have in common is that they show up in very limited quantities and are quickly gone. Look for them at your local fine beer store and get them while they are available. Enjoy them whenever.

WHAT’S THE BUZZ???

IPA’s grow in LOCAL popularity!!!! By Jeff Miller Whether for their higher alcohol content or for their full-body hoppy flavor, IPAs (India Pale Ale) continue to grow in popularity across the country and especially here in Phoenix. From the local pub to the local liquor store, the availability of exceptional IPA’s abound. Ska Brewery’s Decadent (10%ABV) has literally created a “buzz” around town. In fact, I have it from an inside

source that a “Decadent Diary” blog may be out soon. Some of my favorite places to enjoy Decadent are Bison Witches, Rogue Bar on Scottsdale Rd. and The TTRoadhouse even has it on tap. With the large number of IPAs to choose from, I asked around. Some IPAs that were recommended to me were Moylans Double IPA, Great Divide’s Hurcules, Dogfish Head’s 90Minute and a local brew, Sleepy Dog’s Ridgeback (10%ABV). first playoff start, was 28 of 42 for a Packers postseason-record 422 yards and four TDs. All but two of Rodgers’ yards came after the first quarter.

CARDS TO BATTLE SAINTS FOR NFC SUPREMACY Fumble return gives Cardinals 5145 Win Over Packers Old master Kurt Warner and playoff newcomer Aaron Rodgers staged a passing duel to rival any the NFL has seen. And when the highest-scoring postseason game in league history ended abruptly in overtime, Rodgers flung his helmet to the sideline in disgust. He can blame the Arizona defense for his misery.

‘’It’s clearly one of the toughest losses I’ve been a part of,’’ Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy said. ‘’I’m very proud of our football team and fight. This is a hard game to swallow.’’ The previous high for combined points in a postseason game was 95 in Philadelphia’s 58-37 win over Detroit on Dec. 30, 1995. ‘’Whew,’’ Warner said at his postgame news conference, ‘’anybody else tired?’’ The NFC West champion Cardinals play at New Orleans on Saturday for what promises to be another back and forth battle for rights to the big game.

Karlos Dansby returned Rodgers’ fumble 17 yards for a touchdown to give the Cardinals a 51-45 victory over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. Rodgers, intercepted on the game’s first play but marvelous after that, was stripped by Michael Adams . The ball careened off Rodgers’ foot and into the hands of Dansby, who ran untouched for the score. ‘’He made a sack, the ball went in the air, I just made a play on the ball,’’ Dansby said. The reigning NFC champion Cardinals (11-6) rushed the field to celebrate. ‘’That’s probably one of the best games ever played in the playoffs,’’ Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said. Incredibly, Warner had more touchdown passes (five) than incompletions (four). ‘’We knew how tough it was going to be on our defense with all the weapons they have offensively and how they’ve been playing,’’ he said. ‘’It was just one of those games where I felt great. I loved our playing. I felt like I was seeing everything well and it accumulates to 51 points.’’

Warner, who improved his playoff record to 9-3, finished 29 of 33 for 379 yards with no interceptions. The five TDs matched the 38-yearold’s career best. Rodgers, in his

BROCK EAGER TO BE BACK It’s been six months since UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar has set foot in the Octagon, but if recent reports contrary to some of the more dire prognostications are accurate, he may be back before another six months lapse. Marty Morgan, the assistant head wrestling coach at the University of Minnesota and one of Lesnar’s trainers, told Sportsnet.ca’s Joe Ferraro, “Everyone’s asking about (Brock’s) health. He had a bout with a bacterial infection in his intestinal tract in November, and now we’re just kind of working our way to get back to where we need to get back to fight.”

January 14th, 2010 - January 20th 2010 AZWeeklyMagazine.com

While recent speculation suggested Lesnar might never be able to fight again, or at least have a recovery that might best be measured in years, Morgan definitively countered such talk. “He will fight again. I know that it’s just a matter of the public finding out when soon enough.” Former UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion Randy Couture reinforced Morgan’s comments. “I spoke with Brock; I don’t think his career is over. I think they’ve got the issues he’s been having under control and he’s back training,” relayed the UFC Hall of Famer. “I think he will be back in the Octagon this spring and ready to fight again.” That’s a far cry from just a week ago when Lesnar’s future was still very much in doubt. “This week Brock Lesnar is going back to the doctor, getting fully checked out by one of the best doctors and hospitals in the world,” said UFC president Dana White following last week’s UFC 108 in Las Vegas. “If the doctors say things are going well and things are going in the right direction then maybe we’re a few months away from him coming back. If it’s not going in the right direction, he’ll either be done and have to retire or he’ll be out for a couple years. So, hopefully we get good news.”

There’s still no definite answer to when Lesnar will return, but it now sounds like his return is imminent. In the meantime, former champion Frank Mir will face top contender Shane Carwin for the interim heavyweight title at UFC 111 on March 27 in New Jersey. www.FiddlesticksAZ.com

LIVE! SECTION PUDDLE OF MUDD – VOLUME 4: SONGS IN THE KEY OF LOVE & HATE (FLAWLESS/ GEFFEN) Surprisingly, the band that brought the masses a handful of hits on their debut back in 2001 have not been dropped after each following album has sold less than their breakout. In a day and age of the ever diminishing music industry with labels going bankrupt all the time, that’s quite an achievement. And now Puddle of Mudd returns with album #4. How does it fare? Without trying to sound as if payola is in effect, this album is a solid, tight, fresh and flat out catchy

modern hard rock that is quite good. Album opener “Stoned” kicks things off with bombast, especially if you’re okay with excessive swearing. “Keep It Together” gives them another catchy commercial crossover tune that will likely earn them deserved radio play along with “Better Place which screams of rock radio stardom. It’s hard to pick out real standout tracks as they are all good songs. You don’t have to know what they’re about to ‘get it’. You either like them or you don’t. The material is good, solid & catchy and the overall mix is what you’d expect from any band that’s been around for decades There isn’t an overabundance of songs on here just to fill up space on the CD either. This effort is solid and certainly worthy picking up. Time will tell if it sells as well as their debut, but that doesn’t mean it’s any less significant. – Stephen Wilkinson Rockzone Records, 2155 E. Are You Smarter Than A Nobel Prize Winner?

Let’s face it, most of us think we’re pretty well read and pretty darn smart. But not too many of us have won a Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine, and that is why I want to introduce you to Dr. Otto Warburg.

Dr. Otto Warburg 1931 Nobel Prize Laureate Dr. Warburg won the 1931 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine for his work during the 1920s on the then relatively unknown and mysterious disease called cancer. He successfully identified the root cause of cancer, and discovered that cancer cells, unlike normal cells, thrive in an anaerobic, acidic state rather than an oxygen rich, high pH environment. In fact, he discovered that cancer cannot grow in a high alkaline, oxygen rich environment at all. Think about this for a minute. This means we have known what causes cancer for over 78 years, but if this is true, why don’t we learn this fact in every high school biology class in America? Why don’t the cancer treatment centers, oncologists or cancer related charities shout this knowl-

edge from the rooftops? Why isn’t there a warning from the Surgeon General on every bottle or can of soft drinks or sports drinks sold in America? They are extremely acidic, after all, and can cause great damage to humans by helping to create an extremely acidic environment inside the body. And why isn’t there anything being done to tell every American to alkalize their body before it is too late? The good news is that there IS something being done to spread this news, and even more importantly, I have recently discovered an incredible way to achieve an alkaline balanced body that is simple, fast, and easy!

Change Your Water and Change Your Life! Can it really be as easy to create an alkaline balanced body as drinking a different kind of water every day? Yes! But only if it is the right kind of water, made fresh in your own kitchen every day from your very own powerful water processing machine.

Micro-Clustered for Maximum Absorption and Hydration After passing through one of these amazing machines, your water will be micro-clustered, which means it is the most effective water in the world when it comes to hydrating each and every one of the approximately 70 Trillion cells in your body. The vast majority of Americans are chronically dehydrated, which leads to a myriad of health challenges and concerns.

Every person I know wants to because of the extremely acidic lead a healthy, happy, active life, conditions of our bodies. but many people simply aren’t Alkalize or Die! New Years’ Resolutions The New Year has arrived. A fresh start full of hope and promise lies before us, leading to the annual setting of goals for the next 12 months. Be it personal or professional, these resolutions set the stage for how we approach work, interact with others and generally shape our outlook toward life and how we live it. While we readily admit most of these resolutions won’t be met, or may already have been broken, the optimism they create every January recharges the batteries and energizes us to at least make the attempt. For those seeking higher education, New Years’ Resolutions may include researching graduate and undergraduate programs, deciding whether on-line study best fits your schedule, or learning more about grants and financial aid. New resources and technologies have made higher education more attainable than ever for persons of all ages and backgrounds. On February 27-28, 2010, at the Phoenix Convention Center, current and prospective students alike will have the opportunity to gather information, meet educators from around the world, and see the latest products and technology to help get the most from their higher education experience. Hosted by the Scottsdale-based EDU Research Group and featuring a keynote address by former Vice President and Noble Prize winner Al Gore, EduRG Conference 2010 will give students access to both traditional and on-line colleges and universities offering programs to fit every interest. Anyone looking to further their education, switch careers, attend graduate or other post-secondary schools, or just network with students and instructors in your field of study are invited to attend the event for free by registering at http://www.edurg.com/events/sf/.

Speaker panels comprised of distinguished individuals from within the Education field will cover topics including: The Quality of Education in America, Social Media in Education and Holistic Values in Education. Individual workshops and breakout sessions will focus on various niches in the Education realm, such as: International Student Recruitment Strategies, Proven Approaches to Online Marketing and Introducing New Majors: The Methodology.
