Nick@ Night At Arizona Broadway Theatre in Peoria

Andrew Lloyd Webber and the “Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats” by T.S.Eliot are alive and well and purring with energy and excitement as CATS opened this weekend at ABT in Peoria. Director and Choreographer Kurtis Overby has put his mark on this Tony Award winning musical with a flare for fun, movement and touching moments full of love and passion. Kurtis has a company of talented cats for this production-and the voices to match a fantastic score from Mr. Webber, and musical direction by Adam Berger and his band. But the Cats are the show here, and there are numerous performances worthy of ascending to the Top Cat award. There’s Lars Hagland as Bustopher and Growltiger’s Last Stand, Cassandra Norville Klapohake as Grizabella the Glamour Cat, Jack Mattachione as McCavity the mystery Cat, Joey Tierno as the magical and mystical Mistoffelees, Bob Bohen as the old and wise Dueteronomy, David Errigo Jr. as the playful Pouncival, Jeremy Sartin as rowdy Rum Tug Tugger, Kat Thompson as the flighty RunpleTeaser, Patrick David as Skimbleshanks the railway Cat, and Jill Tieskoetter as the lovable Jellylorum. This show is full of moments that will make you laugh and cry. Catch it before the “Memory” and “Moments of Happiness” journeys on. Tickets 623-7768400 or AzBroadwayTheatre.com Through April 11th. GEORGE M Yankee Doodle Dandy at Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre, Mesa Remember the man who owned Broadway? Remember the first superstar of the American musical theatre? If you do, then you’re in for a real treat as GEORGE M, The Yankee Doodle Dandy, opened this weekend at the Broadway Palm in Mesa. This is the true story of George M. Cohan and the famous “Four Cohans” of Broadway fame and fortune, starting in the 1890’s and spanning five decades of entertaining audiences with plays, music, dancing and singing. Ever heard the song “You’re a Grand Old Flag”, or “Over There”, or “Yankee Doodle Dandy”? This is a just the tip off the old Cohan block in this Tony Award Winning musical that is just grand! But George’s shoes are not so easy to fill in this larger than life story-but the Prather family has found their man in the talented John Ramsey. John is the spitting image and personality of old George, running the show and starring in it too. But George has to have family in this show and his supporting cast is just as fine. Rounding out the four Cohan’s are Tommy Vance as Jerry, Kristen Marie as Nellie, Allison Fund as Josie, Kara Farmer as Ethel Levey his first wife, and Chelsea Witiak, as Agnes Nolan, his second wife. This is show full of joy, harmony and dancing galore. I give “My Regards to Broadway” and George M! If you love the musical theatre-you will too. Tickets 480-325-6700 or BroadwayPalmWest.com Through April 10th. KUDOS to Patrick Schweiss, Sagan Lewis and the entire staff of the SEDONA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL for a spectacular and thought provoking festival. The festival, which pays homage to independent filmmakers, was a grand slam again! There were over 145 films to take in over 8 days, with seminars, workshops and social gatherings full of the bright stars of our day. Included in the festivities were Honoree’s Connie Stevens and her film “Saving Grace B. Jones”, Anne Meara and “Another Harvest Moon”, The Classic Series, with “Leave Her To Heaven” hosted by Robert Osborne, and a tribute to Academy Award winning Director/ Producer Michael Moore and his three films “Roger&Me”, “Sicko”, and “Capitalism: A Love Story”. My personal favorites were “Soundtrack for a Revolution”, by Bill Guttentag, Dan Sturman, and Joselyn Barnes, revealing the strength and spirit of the civil rights movement in song: “Beyond the Call” from Director Adrian Belic, telling the griping story of Sir Edward Artis and Dr. James Law’s high adventure and humanitarian work around the world: and lastly the animated and whimsical musical short “Distraxion” from Michael Stern. And of course, we thank the vortexes, for all the special “Sedona” moments. BREAK A LEG!

“I wanted great entertainment at a great price for my family. Howdy delivered. I would recommend the Howdy show to anyone” Rich Harmon of Phoenix

Relive an 1880’s Musical Revue Those who yearn for more family entertainment will be pleased to load up the entire family into the wagon and head straight for the HOWDY! Show. Much more than a typical supper club show, HOWDY! recreates an entire western town complete with dance hall, saloon, sweet shoppe, panning for treasures, “Pecos Pat” and his traveling medicine show, gun fights and a cast of western characters all roaming around without a leash. The main attraction is the “Howdy Show” itself, but don’t show up late or you’ll miss a plethora of campy western fun outside the show in the streets of the town. Once inside the 700-seat “Town Hall” showroom, you’ll find yourself seated picnic table style with tin mining camp plates and a jug of Miss Kitty McGuire’s Brew on the table. The bodacious Miss Kitty, owns the dance hall and hosts the evening. Her main goal is to find a man, and there’s a whole audience full of willing suitors.

CATS, one of the world’s best-known and best-loved musicals, is being produced by the Arizona Broadway Theatre from February 26 through April 11, 2010. Composed by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, CATS is an all-singing, alldancing spectacle that features the mega-hit song “Memory” and is based on T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats. CATS opened in London’s West End and on Broadway in the early 1980s, and would go on to become a worldwide phenomenon. ABT’s production features original choreography by ABT’s Artistic Associate, Kurtis W. Overby, who also directed the production. CATS marks Overby’s second direction effort at ABT after directing last summer’s hit, The Taffetas. “The Taffetas was a great show to get my directing feet wet,” Overby stated. “I have been the resident choreographer here at the theatre over the past year, and it felt good to be at the helm of a full production. And to be able to direct CATS where my strength

Director/Choreographer Kurtis W. Overby and Artistic Producer Cassandra Noville Klaphake in ABT’s past production of Cabaret.

CATS has also provided an opportunity to further the collaboration between Overby and ABT’s Artistic Producer, Cassandra Norville Klaphake, who stars as Grizabella (made famous by Broadway veteran Betty Buckley). Previously, they both appeared onstage in ABT’s Kiss Me, Kate and more recently in Cabaret, where they shared the spotlight as the Emcee and Sally Bowles. “It takes a great deal of trust in and a respect for another’s artistic capabilities to make this kind

of collaboration work,” Klaphake remarked in regard to taking direction from Overby while also being the show’s (and the theatre’s) artistic producer. “Thankfully, that exists in spades with us.” An ever-important aspect of CATS, a show that is all sung and all danced, is an element that brings it to life: the makeup! Under the watchful eye of award-winning costume and make-up designer, Martha J. Clarke, the cast has spent hours in make-up clinics to get just the right look for this production. “The look is so important to the show. Each cat has to have its own personality, and that has to be depicted in the makeup,” Clarke told the cast. Clarke is a firm believer that successful productions have design elements that work together. “I worked closely with Kimb Williamson (the show’s scenic designer) and Denise Wilcox (CATS’ lighting designer). We wanted to make sure we were in the same world,” Clarke mused. “With Kurtis’ artistic eye, I think that we--the production team--have created a solid and magical world that lived in Kurtis’ imagination.” Overby offered, “What makes CATS magical is not only the spectacle of the show, but also the family-friendly aspect of it. If we can get one child to embrace live theatre from this production, then I’ve done my job.”

really lies is very exciting,” Overby continued. Hardly limited to a singular strength, Overby, a graduate of Louisburg College with a degree in dance performance, has performed with and choreographed for Carnival Cruise Lines, and performed and served as dance captain for the Broadway National Tours of Crazy For You and Gentleman Prefer Blondes. Overby made his debut at ABT in its first production, Anything Goes. “I knew at that time that there was a lot of potential in this new theatre company,” Overby remarked. “I remember being at the New York City dance call thinking that this is going to be something special. Now, five years later, I feel that ABT has assembled one of the strongest groups of dancers I’ve ever had the pleasure to work with, and I’ve worked with a lot of dancers,” Overby joked. “I’m thrilled to be working with this cast.”

Melanie Marnich’s These Shining Lives presented by ASU Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts ASU Lyceum Theater Through March 12, 2010 Thursday - Saturday 7:30pm Sunday (3/7) 2pm Wednesday (3/10) 7:30pm These Shining Lives weaves fiction and fact as it recounts the lives of four young women in 1920s Chicago, each of whom contracts radium poisoning while working at Radium Dial Company. The girls earned about eight cents per dial to hand paint a compound of radium and phosphorous onto watch faces. Although company scientists and administrators were aware of the radium hazards, they encouraged the girls to tip the camelhair paintbrushes between their lips to keep a firm point on the brushes. The play presents poignant scenes of the women bonding over their dials, and later, after they become ill, highlights their friendship and support as they band together to fight the company’s negligence. Their case ultimately won its argument before the U.S. Supreme Court and captured national headlines, which dubbed them “the radium girls.”

Capitol Steps presented by Del E. Webb Center for the Performing Arts March 6 - 7, 2010 Saturday 7:30pm Sunday 3pm The Capitol Steps began as a group of Senate staffers who set out to satirize the very people and places that employed them. Every political issue - and non-political issues, too, is fair game for this very funny, quick-witted company of comics. If you think you’ve seen Capitol Steps before think again.

Avenue Q tells the story of Princeton, a bright-eyed college grad who moves to NYC with big dreams and a tiny bank account. The only apartment he can afford is way out on Avenue Q, where everyone’s looking for the same thing he is: a decent job, a stable relationship, and a “purpose.” Eventually, Princeton learns to embrace the ups and downs of city life and realizes that “the real world” isn’t so bad after all.

Burn Your Bottom Cigars often burn faster on one side than another. To keep things even, rotate the slowburning side of the cigar to the bottom. This may seem opposite of what you should do, but trust a lady here, the smoke leaving the top of the cigar takes oxygen with it. That means a slower burn. The bottom burns faster. Try it.

When To Peel Some folks want the labels left on their cigars for bragging purposes and others like to remove them right away. If you like removing your label it is best to wait 5 minutes or so after you light up. their control slowly with deliberate certainty, come into play. As the stage is set within the first twenty minutes and the principal characters lives are defined, we the viewer see the overall picture, as it became apparent that it can only end badly for all involved. Director Antoine Fuqua has firm control with excellent story-telling technique and his cast of veteran actors delivers individual portraits, clearly defining those finer aspects of each of their character’s personalities that compel us to watch until the final outcome! Starring Richard Gere, Don Cheadle, Ethan Hawke, Wesley Snipes, Vincent D’Onofrio, Brian F. O’Byrne, Will Patton, Michael K. Williams, Lili Taylor, Shannon Kane, and Ellen Barkin.

“Brooklyn’s Finest”, examines four lives sliding out of control…

without hesitation “Training Day”, directed by Antoine Fuqua! Ethan Hawke returns to work again in “Brooklyn’s Finest”. I, in turn, asked Antoine: Stan: Ethan Hawke is back in your latest movie, what’s going on here (with a chuckle)! Antoine: Ethan listens intently, to every single thing you say. Whether it’s a high action sequence or character nuances, he doesn’t miss a thing! There’s a whole lot more of my conversation with one of my favorite directors, Antoine Fuqua, including his role of “Executive Producer” and director of “Brooklyn’s Finest” at www.ScreenScene.org ###

Directed by Antoine Fuqua. Written by Michael C. Martin. Overture Films release. Rated R for bloody violence throughout, strong sexuality, nudity, drug content and pervasive language. Runtime: 140 minutes.

This story unfolds over the course of one week, as the events of a massive drug operation involving three New York City police officers and a drug king-pen, escalates to its final culmination. Each of the central characters lives is dramatically impacted as each has the idealistic outcome they would like to see happen. The effects as each of those involved struggle to keep events moving forward to each of their desired course, and the devastating effects as circumstances beyond

The Oscars® are here! The most celebrated motion picture industry award, the Oscar®, is set to be presented on Sunday, March 7th! Here are items of interest for you, our movie-going readers! * Many of you have asked, ‘so what’s your predictions’ for Oscar® winners. Well, here they are for the major categories’, and yes, I’m predicting a split for best picture and best director!

###

A conversation with Antoine Fuqua, the director of “Brooklyn’s Finest” By Stan Robinson I had a conversation with actor Ethan Hawke for the recent “Daybreakers”. When I asked Ethan which film has had the most impact for him as a learning experience, he answered

AZWeeklyMagazine.com

“Best Actress” to Sandra Bullock who captures the essence of a woman whose heart is her guide for doing what’s right in ‘The Blind Side’. “Best Supporting Actor” goes to Christoph Waltz for delivering a ‘despicable, yet mesmerizing character’ in ‘Inglourious Basterds’.

Review by Stan Robinson Antoine Fuqua is one of my favorite directors when it comes to presenting a compelling story with just the right amount of action sequences at the right time to solidify his stories. Among my favorites are “Shooter” (2007) starring Mark Wahlberg, “King Arthur” (2004) starring Clive Owen, “Tears of the Sun” (2003) starring Bruce Willis, and “Training Day” (2001) which he directed Denzel Washington to an Oscar® for Best Actor!

accordingly and without regret in ‘Crazy Heart’.

“Best Picture” goes to ‘Avatar’, it’s a moving film on ideologies of living species throughout the universe and the 3-D special effects didn’t become the story, but rather enhanced it. “Best Director” goes to Kathryn Bigelow for ‘The Hurt Locker’, the perfect balance of characters vs. conditions for a poignant look at the effect of wars today. “Best Actor” goes to Jeff Bridges for his portrayal of a character that has ideas of what his place in music history might be and lives his life

“Best Supporting Actress” goes to Mo’Nique for lying bare, the full emotional range as the loving, yet very distant mother with serious issues in ‘Precious’. ### * As customary at Oscar® time, various events are held in cities throughout the world, as fundraisers for chairitable organizations. Join me, and acting coach David Moskowitz, as we co-host a Hollywood Awards Gala fundraiser on Oscar® night, Sunday, March 7th to benefit the Arizona Institute for Breast Health, at Farrelli’s Cinema Supper Club in Scottsdale, AZ, the only place in Arizona where one can watch a first run movie on a full size theater screen while dining! BEER! BEER AND HEALTH For many centuries and in many languages, we have raised a glass of beer and toasted to good health, always believing it to be wishful thinking. Recently, scientific study has provided some confirmation that a toast to good health may go beyond the fact that enjoyment, refreshment and good times with good friends can lead to a healthier life. There is growing evidence that moderate consumption of beer brings health benefits. While nothing is conclusive and certainly moderation is the key, there is good news, both on the nutrition and the health side. There is evidence to suggest that light drinking reduces the risk of stroke and heart disease by as much as 20%, or more. Dr. Norman Kaplan, a researcher at University of Texas Southwest Medical Center conducted a study of 70,000 health nurses. He reported that those who consume one or two beers each day had a 30-40% lower rate of Coronary Heart diseases and a 20%

Follow us on and www.worldclassbeverages.com The High-End Beer Division of Crescent Crown”

lower rate of stroke than the control group who did not drink regularly. Healthcare giant Kaiser Permanente conducted a similar study using almost 130,000 people with similar results. Studies have also shown that moderate alcohol consumption may help increase high density lipoprotein or HDL, also known as good cholesterol. Alcohol drinkers in general have statistically significant higher levels HDL or good cholesterol. They also have lower levels of fibrinogen, a protein that is associated with blood clots. Beer, specifically also contains higher levels of polyphenols which cut levels of LDL or bad cholesterol. The ingredients in beer serve to increases anti-oxidants in blood stream. Barley and other grains, hops and yeast all contain antioxidants which survive the brewing process and make it in to the consumer’s blood stream. Antioxidants serve to protect the cells against the damaging properties of reactive oxygen, reducing oxidative stress. Oxidative stress has been shown to have a link to cancer, aging, atherosclerosis, and neurondegenerative diseases (Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s). It doesn’t mean that beer prevents these diseases, but it can help to create an environment that supports resistance of them. Continued on Page 27...

Besides the soothing experience of enjoying a beer, there is also scientific evidence to suggest beer can actually lower blood pressure. The alcohol we consume is ethanol, which is shown to have substantial antithrombotic effects, similar to aspirin. A daily aspiring is recommended by many doctors for their patients over 50, especially those at risk for hypertension or heart disease. Dr. Kaplan’s studies at the University of Texas also seemed to support this theory. One of the biggest questions surrounding beer is does it have any nutritional value? It does…beer contains many essential vitamins and minerals. There is quite a variety of nutrients in beer. Richer beers, notably Belgians have long been considered liquid bread. For years monks in Trappist Orders throughout Europe have used rich beers to provide basic nutrients during times of fasting. Specifically, beer contains a substantial amount of B-complex vitamins which provide some very key health benefits. The most powerful of the B vitamins is B6 which lowers levels of Homocysteine which can increase the chance of heart disease. Beer also contains magnesium, selenium and dietary silicon which improves bone density and can postpone the onset of osteoporosis.

Beer not only stands up to wine, but in many ways surpasses it. Wine for years has touted the fact that the flavanoids found in it are healthy, and this is true. However, Beer on average contains the same amount of flavanoids as red wine, and 5 times as much as white. Dark beer contains substantially more than lighter beer, therefore much more than even red wine. Unfiltered beers contain even higher amounts of these good things. Beer also provides a 30% increase in B-6 into the blood plasma, as well as dietary silicon. Very few of the nutrients found in the raw products for wine survive fermentation and filtering, whereas virtually all of them do for beer. This means that even though wine appears to contain many health ingredients, as a finished product, beer contains substantially more. It can not be stressed enough that moderation is important. One to two beers per day is considered a reasonable amount. It certainly should go without saying that any information provided herein is not to be considered in lieu of a trained medical opinion. As with most medical studies, correlation does not necessarily equal causation. The evidence may just suggest that healthier people drink beer, rather than beer making people healthier. Regardless of the actual circumstances, it seems like one more good reason to consider a beer at the end of the day.

CLUB! LUCK O’ THE IRISH IN DRINKS

St. Patrick’s Day Cocktails Sure to Impress Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day is a great tradition and an excellent excuse to party in the middle of March. Even those without a drop of Irish blood can be Irish for a day! Really, forget the green beer. If you want to drink beer like the Irish a pint of Guinness will do. If that’s too bold for you, you might try one these cocktails and shooters to toast to the Irish. Many of the drinks are green thanks to liqueurs like crème de menthe or Midori while others feature the best spirits of Ireland. EMERALD ISLE You will find that the Emerald Isle is a minty gin cocktail perfect for St. Patrick’s Day parties. A dash or two of bitters does help the drink considerably. While aromatic bitters are customary, mint bitters are an equally nice compliment, and if you’re feeling a little wild, orange bitters are quite interesting also.

Ingredients: 1 oz gin 1 tsp crème de menthe, green 2 dashes bitters Preparation: Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice cubes. Shake well. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. EVERYBODY’S IRISH With an olive or not, Everybody’s Irish at least while they are drinking this green cocktail, or say you can claim anyway. This is a very green cocktail, perfect for serving at St. Patrick’s Day parties. You’ll want to be sure to use the green varieties of both liqueurs to get that perfect shade. Ingredients: 2 oz Irish whiskey 1 Tbsp crème de menthe, green 1 Tbsp Chartreuse, green cocktail olive for garnish Preparation: Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice cubes. Shake well. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with the olive.

The Night Owl BY MARIA TOURTCHANINOVA

First Fridays March 5th Yes the infamous art walk is back into action, a time when downtown turns into a big street fair with open galleries, street performers, cafes and music. I have to say that the one time I went was not what I expected. Not so much art galleries- more hand made jewelryeww. Turns out, there are a few streets holding the event and I just happened to go to the wrong one. This time I have a plan, which I am sharing with you lucky readers. Take the light rail to the Phoenix Art Museum, there you will find a free exhibit, bar (yey), and a live band. Grab a map of First Friday routes and continue on outside where free shuttle buses take you to your art area of choice. I am picking Heritage Square. This area has been separated to form even more of an artsy vibe! Is it possible you say? Indeed! Only selected street performers, vendors, and musicians will be aloud. In other words a lack of “free hug” signs. Then again that just might be your thing. As the night rolls in, take the opportunity to party in some downtown hot spots. On this day, every bar is the place to be so take your pick! www.ArtLinkPhoenix.com ArtDetour 22 March 6th and 7th. Artlink, which is the non-profit organization throwing First Fridays is celebrating 22 years of success. From 10am to 6pm on Saturday and 12pm to 5pm on Sunday, you are welcome to tour the art galleries and artist’s studios. This is a more relaxed and art oriented event than the more party vibe of First Fridays. Yet that does not mean that live music and entertainment won’t be present. www.ArtLinkPhoenix.com The Great AZ Beer Festival March 6th and 7th Not into art? I bet you’re into beer though- yeah. Buying a ticket gets

you 24 three-ounce samples of over 100 micro-brewed and specialty craft beers from all the finest Southwest breweries. Ever played virtual paint ball while drunk? Now’s your chance! Other games and contests will be present. Of course a live band soothes any angry drunks in the crowd and this Saturday will be the blues/rock band Big Nick and the Gila Monsters. Sunday, Major Lingo will be playing a mix of folk, reggae, ska and psychedelic rock to get you moving and take you away from being that fat drunk guy. Just saying. www.Azbeer.com Char’s has the Blues March 7th Benefit for the Patriot Guard Riders When I first pulled up to chars, I was surprised to see a lonely little house all lit up, yet a strong base and a smooth voice beckoned me into this dark interior made cozy by strands of red lights and hot with the sounds of funk and R&B from Badness with Larry Bailey. It’s a funky place, the stage leaks onto the dance floor filled with couples. If you’re into live music it’s a place to check out- the band was pro. This Sunday at 3:30pm Chars is throwing a fund-raiser for PGR who do such things as protect the funeral services of fallen soldiers. Give a donation and enjoy a day filled with a variety of vocalist, guitarists and groups playing Motown, Blues, Classic Rock, Jazz and Funk. And who knows maybe you’ll run into George Benson. www.charshastheblues.com

With its denomination of origin, tequila is one of the very few distilled spirits that require tenacity and agricultural mastery. Yielding a ripe plant is a waiting game of 7 to 10 years. Producing fine tequila requires reverence for each and every stage of its creation. For this, the Gonzalez family employs a host of family members both in Arizona and Mexico to oversee the entire process. The Gonzalez family has reached deep into the roots of tequila and after many years of negative stigmas to this liquor, they are proud to offer tequila worthy of its Mexican origin. 3 Amigos Tequila! Por fin, tequila in its finest and most elegant savoring. Top shelf blanco, a reposado and an añejo. “Our respected product has made a strong foothold in the tequila industry. We encourage AZWeeklyMagazine.com

people to try other tequilas so they know the difference. We also educate people with the process of tequila. Knowledge is power. We know that there are many brands of tequilas but our loyal customers time and time again stay true to drinking 3 Amigos Tequila. We do not say we are the best, but we do educate the people and set a new standard for tequila,” said Rafael Gonzales, Advertising Director. 3 Amigos Tequila just came out with USDA Certified Organic tequila that is also kosher. It is one of three organic tequilas out in the market. 3 Amigos Tequila has been “green” with their agricultural practices for many generations and so it only made sense to make it officially organic. 3 Amigos Tequila Organic Blanco is ultra smooth and delightful to any palate.

GAME! SECTION

GAME! NFL Pondering Changes to Overtime Playoff Rules The National Football League could change its overtime format for playoff games at a meeting next month. Under the new format, both teams would get the ball at least once unless the first team to get the ball scores a touchdown. If the first team to get the ball makes a field goal and the other team ties the game, action would continue until a team scores again. Under the current rules, the first team to score wins. There have been various concepts that have been discussed in recent years, but this particular one has never been proposed. The competition committee will discuss the new concept with teams and players at league meetings March 21-24 in

Orlando, Fla., when it could come to a vote. At least two thirds of the teams would need to agree to the changes for new rules to be adopted. The competition committee met with the players’ union and players on Thursday during the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. Discussion continued when the competition committee met with a general managers’ advisory committee on Friday. The debate about the rules gained steam after the NFC championship game, when New Orleans beat Minnesota 31-28 in overtime and Brett Favre’s Vikings never got the ball in the extra period. Under the proposed rule, Minnesota would have gotten another possession because the Vikings didn’t allow a touchdown.

American Ingenuity Despite Canada’s stated goal, it was the U.S. that “owned the podium” at the Vancouver Winter Olympics. The Americans won 37 medals, breaking a record set by Germany in 2002. It also marked the first time in nearly 80 years the Americans had concluded a Winter Games with the most

medals. Team USA excelled at sports such as Nordic Combined, which had previously been dominated by Europeans, and Bobsled, which had not produced a U.S. gold medal since 1948. Canada won the most golds with 13.
