MARYMOUNT UNIVERSITY M.A OF INTERIOR DESIGN CANDIDATE EXPECTED GRADUATION: MAY 2022

AZZAYA BATSUURI Interior Design graduate student

I came to interior design as my second career. My previous work experience in the real estate and music industry as well as my volunteer work for society serve as a strong background and give me a unique perspective on many aspects of interior design from program development and schematic design to project implementation. A design specific area I enjoy and excel in is project management and teamwork where the result improves people’s lives. I strongly believe that interior design has the power to that. My academic work at Marymount University has helped strengthen my skills and knowledge to design spaces that achieve this outcome. Just like an art, for me an interior design is a key contribution to bring color and comfort for the space.

BROOKSTAY INN, THE TINY HOUSE RESORT

The resort was inspired by Woodstock Music Festival (1969) in Catskills. This event was an opportunity for people to escape into music and spread the message of Unity and Peace. BrookStay Inn is a place where the visitors can relax in nature while having a wide selection of music to listen and play with their friends and family. The resort promotes sustainable eco-friendly tourism by using biodegradable plastic or providing zero-waste toiletries and runs the small units on energy generated by solarpanels. The design challenge was addressed to provide an enough living space while creating possible privacy in small units. Also to celebrate music and unity creates a playful and colorful environment.

This lighting fixture is designed for the University bookstore, specifically for the school's sport clothing area over circular racks of logo clothing. Universities are a place where one can fill their brain with a wealth of experiences. Thus the concept began with the idea that the “head”, which is the repository of that knowledge, and it benefits from the protection of a cap.
