The design stems from a ground plane of glacial scars. Approximately two million years ago, the first glaciers came south into the region. As they slowly retreated over hundreds of thousands of years, the landscape was left littered with glacial till (boulders), scraped with scars within the rock, and full of beautiful lakes. Eleven of these lakes we see promately today as the New York Finger Lake Region. The design focuses on the Finger Lakes being allowed to tell the story of water within the region. Water as a solid, a liquid, and a gas from two million years ago to today and the story of our sustainable water movement.

[Site Plan] Glacial Scars layed across the design site serve as a groundplane to bring the Finger Lakes Museum into the landscape and onto Canandaigua Lake. Benches, docks, a track system for interpretative signage, and a sustainability exhibit on phytoremediation (treats stormwater from the main plaza) combine to make the Finger Lakes Museum in Canandaigua a leading interactive sustainability attraction. Experience the story of water.

-$5,093 annual heat | cool cost -prevention of 91,467 gallons of water from polluting local rivers annually.

[Entrance Section] As one enters the site via car or public transportation from downtown Canandaigua and surrounding areas, they are immersed into sustainability. To enter the Finger Lakes Museum or main plaza, one must cross over a bio retention | wildlife area. The main geometrical design lays a groundplane based on past glacial movement and scars throughout the region.
