About Engineering at B&FC The Engineering Department at B&FC develops and delivers superior quality training and education, aimed at empowering individuals to become effective professional engineers within their field.

Our strengths: We benefit from a team of passionate and dedicated staff, all with their own particular area of expertise. The Aerospace Engineering Degree Apprenticeship can be delivered at our brand new Lancashire Energy HQ (LEHQ), a purpose-built resource furnished with industry-standard equipment and technology which houses a bespoke nuclear simulator, or throughout the UK at employer premises, if your facilities support on-site delivery.

Introducing the Aerospace Engineering Degree Apprenticeship The Aerospace Engineering Degree Apprenticeship develops the higher level skills needed by senior engineers to increase business effectiveness. This nationally-recognised qualification covers a broad range of aerospace engineering disciplines to allow your employees to become fully rounded and professional engineers. Degree apprentices will develop the academic knowledge together with the higher practical and technical competencies needed to increase productivity and achieve genuine competitive advantage. About the Aerospace Engineering Degree Apprenticeship Through the Aerospace Engineering Degree Apprenticeship, your employees will have access to a comprehensive learning experience, linking theory to practical project work to provide the skills needed for senior level engineering roles.

Main features: u Government support with funding for levy- and non-levy paying employers u flexible delivery modes with workplace support or day release u customized, innovative and high quality teaching and assessments u expert tutors with up-to-date industry experience u a UK top 10 Lancaster University honours degree programme1 u full access to B&FC specialist engineering facilities and equipment

Delivery: Apprentices will primarily be based in the workplace, with teaching occurring via day release in our contemporary and well-equipped learning facility. Alternative delivery modes can be discussed in line with your particular needs. Programme structure and content: The Aerospace Engineering Degree Apprenticeship comprises both the Foundation Degree (levels 4 and 5) and BEng (Hons) top-up (level 6) programmes in Aerospace Engineering, delivered concurrently with workplace skills and competency development.

Assessment: The assessment process comprises coursework, exams and a work-based project. Successful end-point assessment leads to a full honours qualification alongside degree apprentice status. Accreditation: The Aerospace Degree Apprenticeship will benefit from partial CEng accreditation with the IET2. The qualification is awarded by Lancaster University, a UK top 10 university1 and also highly ranked in international league tables such as the QS world rankings. Working in partnership The Aerospace Engineering Degree Apprenticeship lifecycle At B&FC, our engineering experts believe in a continuous and integrated approach to programme development and delivery. They will work with you from the outset right through to fulfilment, supporting individual achievement and facilitating corporate success.

Stephen Mackie

Our expert team 8

Stephen is himself a graduate of B&FC, having achieved a first class honours degree in Automotive Engineering and Technology. He is particularly skilled in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and 3D CAD. Stephen was a Formula Renault engineer and has undertaken project collaborations with MAHLE Powertrain.

Craig Beattie Craig lectures in engineering and mathematics at degree-level. He decided on a teaching career while studying maths at UCLan. From there, he went on to complete a Postgraduate Certificate in Mathematics Education at the University of Wales, and a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering at Lancaster University.

Tony Hanham Tony launched his career via the apprenticeship route and has since enjoyed a long-standing career as an engineer within the aircraft and manufacturing industry. Tony is a lead assessor and internal verifier and has a wealth of experience in lean manufacturing, business improvement techniques and co-ordinating apprenticeship schemes.

Your partner relationship manager remains a constant point of contact, working with you to ensure your key objectives continue to be met.

Your bespoke delivery plan is finalised and the contract completed.

John McGeever John began his engineering career as a BAE Systems apprentice. A toolmaker by trade, he has also worked in Iran as an engineering trainer and instructor within the aircraft industry. John has vast experience as an apprentice workplace trainer, which underpins delivery of the Aerospace Engineering Degree Apprenticeship.

Sikander Yasin Sikander graduated in 2010 from the University of Manchester with a Master’s in Aerospace Engineering with Management. He then spent five years working in marketing and in 2015, was awarded an MSc Aerospace Science and Technology from the University of Manchester. He holds membership of both the Energy Institute and the Aerospace Institute.

Candice Downie Candice has a BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering and an MPhil in Materials Engineering from the University of Manchester. She has worked in the aerospace and automotive sectors as both an engineer and a project manager. Candice is a Chartered Engineer, a Member of the IET, and a Fellow of the HEA.
