Your quarterly update September 2022

Traineeships A Traineeship offers young people aged 1624 the opportunity to combine training and qualifications with valuable work experience and improve their Maths and English skills.

Although there is no obligation, many of our employer partners do take on some of the young people they work with on a traineeship, progressing their training with an apprenticeship or developing their skills in-house.

To prepare them for work, all trainees must complete a minimum of 70 hours work experience. This could be between twoand six-weeks work experience with one or more employers (full or part-time).

For more information on the Government incentive payments currently on offer, visit find-employer-schemes.education.gov.uk/ schemes/traineeships How much will it cost to offer a traineeship? There are no costs or fees for employers when taking on a trainee. You are not obligated to provide a trainee with a wage, although some employers choose to offer minimum wage. We do not charge any recruitment fees for trainees, and we will cover every trainee’s travel costs.

A traineeship at B&FC can last 12-16 weeks. How can offering a traineeship help us as employers? Offering work experience to young people through a traineeship can open a door to a rewarding relationship with young people in your community. It can also provide a pipeline of emerging talent looking to kickstart their careers.

How does it work? We can help you to plan the placement to ensure it meets the needs of your organisation and also provides a meaningful experience for the trainee. Our experienced trainers will mentor and coach the trainee so you can be sure that they are well prepared for their placement. Once the work experience has finished, you should provide constructive feedback and advice to trainees and offer: + An interview for an apprenticeship or job in your business if one is available + An exit interview with written feedback if no job is available

Melissa is a class act... With a full-time job and a 9-year-old, Melissa Barber was unsure she would be able to fit studying for a qualification around her busy schedule. Already working in a school as an office manager, Melissa’s big goal was to become a School Business Manager. After signing up to the CMDA apprenticeship with Lancashire County Council, she unlocked her potential and has now been promoted within her school, to School Business Manager. It’s helped me to understand my position as a leader, how I can impact management schemes, and the projects that we do. I’ve implemented some big projects at work, which I potentially wouldn’t have done if I hadn’t had the understanding on how to do the research.”
