HNC/HND IN NAUTICAL SCIENCE
WELCOME
Welcome to the Fleetwood Nautical Campus, Blended Learning Unit which offers a combination of online and college based learning, ideally suited for students who are based overseas, work full-time or prefer to study in a flexible mode.
SPECIFICALLY, WE PROVIDE:
• HNC in Nautical Science • HND in Nautical Science • Interactive subject modules and resources in electronic format, available 24/7 • The ability to submit all learning outcome tests (TMTs) electronically • Regular and supportive feedback on all submitted work • Self-paced learning • Online self-assessment • The ability to monitor and track your progress through the course
HOW IT WORKS
• A teaching, learning and assessment plan is created for each student. Performance criteria for each HNC/HND SQA unit is listed in their plan and covers all the learning outcomes, allowing a student to view their progress and the Blended Learning Unit to select the correct criteria when a student has achieved a pass. • Students work through each SQA unit assessing themselves with self-marked tests. • Students must complete and upload Tutor Marked Tests (TMTs) which cover each element of the UPK and Learning Outcomes. These are marked in college as a Pass or Refer. Students must re-submit until they achieve a Pass. • Comprehensive records of stage by stage progress available for audit internally and externally at short notice.
Online Collaboration Learning
Self Paced Learning
Face to Face Learning
• Once a student has successfully passed all the relevant TMTs for a SQA unit, they must attempt an on-line Pre-College Test. This provides the measure of understanding and knowledge required prior to attending college for Final Assessments. • Pre-college tests are marked as Proceed to College or Further work required. • HNC/HND SQA summative assessments and Graded Papers are conducted by Fleetwood Nautical Campus directly under invigilated conditions conforming to MCA Written Exam conditions.

The pre-college test is designed to assess your standard of knowledge. This ensures that you are ready to come to college and sit the final assessments. The paper duration will be similar to the final assessment and is timed. There is an additional hour allocated for downloading and uploading of your work. This assessment must be treated as a closed book test and you must not refer to the notes. This assessment process has proven invaluable, providing both the student and college with information as to whether they are ready for the final examination.
FINAL ASSESSMENTS Final assessments are either timed invigilated
tests or practical assessments which are conducted in college. In addition some subjects have assignments which are subject to a formal submission date. Students do not need to attend college for assignments but must adhere to the submission time frame.

STUDENT TESTIMONIALS leetwood’s Blended Learning has enabled me to work towards my OOW F Unlimited whilst still working at sea. This qualification vastly improves my professional learning and job prospects. The distance-learning delivery enables me to achieve something that I would not have been able to afford to do otherwise. The course is by no means a small undertaking and candidates should expect to dedicate hard work and time in order to succeed. The staff have been extremely helpful at the college and set-up for learning is well-established. I am happy to have been a part of it.
Mr Davison or me overall the course has been brilliant and exactly what I was looking F for. The support from Blended Learning Team has been first class in every respect a and I could not have wished for more. Their approach is professional, friendly, efficient and very prompt. The tutor support has been exceptional and again very prompt when requested. Most Royal Navy Officers seeking MCA qualification would find the Fleetwood course exactly what they were looking for and perfect preparation for the exams.
