The have Gone

Pauline Bermingham Illustrated by Anna Cárdenas

Jonah and Toby were sat in the house.

They were reading and playing a game.

They’d been told by their mother to stay where they were until two older people came.

The
two older people were
Gran
and
Granddad.
They had been travelling all day by car. But halfway through the journey something went wrong.
And the car journey now would take twice as long.

Mum and Dad had a place where they needed to be.

And they definitely could not miss this date.

The wall clock was ticking, the time going fast.

And if they didn’t go now, they’d be late.

Surely nothing could go wrong. And after some thinking it was finally agreed. That Gran and Granddad wouldn’t be long.

So, the decision was made to leave the lads alone.
But nobody knows what can happen sometimes. Things can occur, just like that. And sure enough when the parents had gone.
Jonah spotted a rat. He screamed so loud that Toby fell off his chair.
