CHALLENGE YOURSELF! #TELLDELOITTE This would very much suit Lower Sixth students, but note an end of March deadline.

The #TELLDELOITTE challenge arrived via email with the following instructions:

Encourage your students to #TellDeloitte and discover how far their imagination could take them. At Deloitte, we believe the best way to make an impact is to turn our imagination into action. That’s why we nurture curiosity in our people, right from the very start of their career journey. What inspires your students? How do they think, learn, solve, and create? What makes them who they are? What’s their ultimate dream? Encourage them to enter our #TellDeloitte competition, via https://telldeloitte.co.uk/, so they can find out more about what drives their curiosity and how that can help them with their career choices. Once they know what inspires them, we’d like them to #TellDeloitte their ultimate dream, idea, business concept or technology innovation and we could make it happen. • Every month, the most inspiring entry will win an iPad and stylus. • All monthly winners will be invited to a Deloitte innovation workshop in April 2018, led by our most inspiring thought leaders. • One overall winner will also receive a £5,000 award to kickstart their idea or get the training they need to achieve this. All entries will feature on an interactive map. -‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐-‐ For info on opportunities with Deloitte post A level, see: https://www2.deloitte.com/uk/en/careers/students.html https://www2.deloitte.com/uk/en/careers/apprenticeships.html

When we hear of the internet of things and a need for students to futureproof for jobs that do not exist yet, #FinTech is often a reference term or hashtag that crops up. We hope the glossary infographic above is a helpful translation tool!

TALKING POINTS FROM @BABLAKECAREERS

SUCCESSFUL INTERNATIONAL WEEK

We were indebted to Antony Adams, founder of International Education Week, who brought more than a dozen universities from Europe, Canada and the USA to the UK for a week long tour. The IE Fair visited Bablake during Life Choices, and our 5th year pupils and L6th students all had the opportunity to talk to the delegates about specific courses on offer and the advantages of study/ employment abroad.

April 1st marks the 20th anniversary of Bablake’s current Careers Department – it really has gone in a flash! With the arrival and dynamic impact of first the internet and latterly the smartphone and AI, we have seen employers rate positive use of new technology, canny networking and skills gained via co-‐curricular activity as highly as academic grades.

20 YEARS OF CHANGE

NO SURPRISE ABOUT THE IDEAL SKILLS EMPLOYERS WANT AN APPRENTICE TO SHOW

#NAW2018 Our celebrations of 2018’s National Apprenticeship Week were limited by the delay in installing TV technology in the new Careers Centre, but we delivered a session to staff about apprenticeships, dispelling a good number of myths, plus we took a keen interest in the excellent 30 minute Big Assembly broadcast.

A REMINDER! ‘BEYOND BABLAKE’ WEEK (L6th) – Monday 2 July to Friday 6 July All Lower Sixth students should be planning their schedule for this week. CREST/ EPQ research, work placements and university open day/ taster day visits are all suitable plans for the week. Please see MGAW a.s.a.p. to discuss further. UPDATE ON OUR THURSDAY CAREERS FORA: SESSIONS 14-‐ 18 We will be confirming 2017-‐18’s final 5 fortnightly Careers seminars over the Easter holiday and present these plans in the next Circular.
