‘n Rugbyskeidsregter van Nigel wat vermoedelik ‘n aanval op die veld in ‘n wedstryd tussen die Eerste spanne van Nigel en Middelburg gekry het, het nou tot wye reperkussies gelei. Nie alleen moes hy tydens die wedstryd met ‘n ander skeidsregter vervang word nie, maar ‘n oor en weer plukkery langs die veld tussen die skeidsregter se ondersteuners en pro klub ondersteuners, het nou tot ‘n saak van aanranding gelei. Een van die pro klub ondersteuners word daarvan aangekla dat hy die broer van die skeidsregter bygedam het. Die wedstryd het op 11 Augustus in die John Vorster Stadion plaasgevind en skeidsregter Reinhardt Prinsloo (25) het kort na die begin van die tweede helfte inmekaar gesak. Sy pa en swaer het hom by die wedstryd ondersteun. Die wedstryd is ‘n kort rukkie gestaak sodat Prinsloo van die veld verwyder kon word en ‘n ander skeidsregter kon oorneem. Onderwyl die aktiwiteite op die veld aan die gang was, het senior verteenwoordigers van die rugbyklub gesê dat die skeidsregter se siekte tot groot ontwrigting vir die spelers lei. “Ons kan dit nie verder toelaat nie. Hy kan nie toegelaat word om weer hier te blaas nie.” Rekord het egter verneem dat daar glo nie teen ‘n skeidsregter gediskrimineer mag word as hy aanvalle kry nie. In die hitte van die oomblik het ‘n familielid van Prinsloo gesê hy het ‘n video opname

wat meer duidelikheid oor die saak sou kon gee. Hy wou met alle mag en geweld met die voorsitter van Nigel Rugby, Louis Bezuidenhout in gesprek tree, maar senior amptenare het hulle van mekaar weggehou. Ander rugby ondersteuners het gesê dat Prinsloo reeds verskeie kere op die veld geblaas en voorheen sulke aanvalle beleef het. Een van die beamptes, Riaan Janse Van Rensburg (49), het ook tussenbeide getree om gemoedere te kalmeer. Dinge het agter glo hand uitgeruk en die gevolg was dat die Prinsloo-kamp ‘n aanklag van aanranding teen Van Rensburg by die polisie ingedien het. Van Rensburg is aangekla en het Vrydag 17 Augustus in die hof verskyn. Prokureur J. P. Okes het namens hom opgetree en die saak is tot 18 September uitgestel wanneer Van Rensburg ‘n pleit van onskuldig sal aanbied.

We are still in the UK and have had some fantastic experiences. We took a tour through Scotland and then went to the Edinburgh Tattoo (what an experience). The sad truth is that Christianity is definitely not a priority in most of the people’s lives and we were only privileged to meet one group who were proudly Christian and made no secret of this. They also said grace before a meal and stood up for the standard by which they lived. They were from Canada and shared that they were in a Baptist church there. As was our last trip there are many churches that are closed, boarded up and being used as shops or restaurants. We returned form the tour last Friday evening and spent the Saturday walking around Edinburgh (visited the castle as well) waiting for the 22h30 Tattoo performance. It was towards the evening (remember the sun only goes down at about 21h00) that we were very pleasantly surprised. The people (generally) do not go to church so the Christians bring church to the people. We bumped into a group of folk wearing black T Shirts with white writing “CHURCH ON THE STREET”. This was a group of folk who stand on the very busy High Street in Edinburgh talking to the folk walking past and then often praying for them then and there. WOW. What was very interesting to me was the fact that there were people who stopped to talk (they were not approached by the group but rather chose to chat about Christianity). This means that the people have a desire to know more about God but do not take the time to

Rev Goddess, Heidelberg Methodist Church go to a church service. I wonder why…….. We then moved on a bit and found a “Club 65” and the notice board drew my attention – it was a Christian Club. We went inside and had a pleasant conversation with one of the Elders. The venue was actually a church with a beautiful stained glass feature in the middle of the front wall with a big cross in the middle (no wooden cross). The 65 was the number of days that they had decided to open the church as a coffee shop during the festival (street festival during the Tattoo period). They had various gospel worship teams leading during the evening from 20h00 to 23h00. The coffee was free (and you got a small shortbread biscuit) and as soon as you sit down an Elder comes and sits with you, asking you how you are and where you are in your relationship with God. Again – WOW. What was an eye opener to me is that while the lives of the South African is definitely more open to Christianity these folks evangelize in unique ways – and maybe we need to learn and do… Next message will be from South Africa…..blessings to you all.

Big donation to children’s home The Chance home in Dunnottar received a massive donation from Ellerines Holdings Trust. The goods donated included food items, blankets and even soccer balls. But there was a lot more to this donation. A team from the trust painted roofs and the jungle gym. An amount of R6 500 was donated towards
the cost of the paint and to purchase educational toys. The team got to work and afterwards there was a braaivleis given for the staff of the home. A spokesperson for the trust said that this contribution was a form of giving back to the community and they were happy to do it. All the donations had come from staff members.

Many Nigel residents are complaining about illegal dumping, which appears to be on the increase and is spreading to various areas. “The people of Nigel are complaining about the bin system of refuse collection,” one resident told the Rekord. I do not know why they complain. “The bins take at least five bags and when I have extra bags I place them next to the bin and they have never refused to take them.” This resident says many people try to spite the municipality by dumping their rubbish in and around Nigel. Places which have become regular dumping areas are in the veld at the back of the Angelo Mall and at the back of the John Vorster Stadium. The Rekord did a survey of residents relating to illegal dumping and all agreed it was spoiling Nigel’s image. If there is a piece of vacant land, then dumping starts and gradually escalates. Many illegal dumpers operate after dark, taking their refuse in a vehicle. The summer is approaching and when it starts to rain these dumping sites will be a real health hazard, say residents. “No dumping signs” seem to serve no purpose at all. Children have been seen rummaging through the piles of refuse on the sites, which is worrying.“Nigel’s refuse services are one of the best in Gauteng,” said a resident. “So why bother to litter the town”?Anyone who sees people dumping illegally should report it to the municipality and, if possible, take the registration number of a vehicle used for this.

Hospice empty, without hope A hospice in Jameson Park for terminally ill people has been standing empty for a long time without a single patient being cared for. It is rumoured that the Lesedi Local Municipality refuses to furnish the building and that they refuse to hand it over to people who wish to run the place in the interest of the people. Rekord has been informed by adv. Gerrit Coetzee of the DA that at least one woman is in urgent need of care. Her one leg was amputated some time ago and she now faces the threat that she may
also lose the other one. While she is almost in a condition of delirium trans, she has nobody to turn to as her family resides in the Western Cape. The hospice, just opposite to the clinic, is a modern building. It supposedly falls under the auspices of the Community Services Department of Lesedi. There is no name identifying the hospice. Although totally empty, the hospice has a manager, Buyiswa Malaleka in charge whilst security officers are also on duty. It is also rumoured that the building may soon be totally evacuated, leaving Jameson Park and Lesedi without a hospice and with a building which may soon become another eye sore.

It was also alleged that children burned some mattresses two weeks ago for heat as they had no blankets. In this regard the Department states that no burning of mattresses has been brought to their attention. “Children have the habit of making fires in the evening.” The children at Luckhoff are provided with breakfast, lunch, supper and a snack as per the minimum standard menu for all state facilities for children. When the Department took over, there was no procurement system in place for the ordering and purchasing of food.The storerooms currently have food for the next three months.

Selle wat abnormaal verdeel is kanker. Sy sê vol-wassenes kry gewoonlik kanker a.g.v. hulle leefstyl terwyl kinders se kanker gewoonlik geneties van aard is. Daar is ongeveer 750 versorgers in SA en 4 800 vrywilligers om 45 000 pasiënte te besoek. Altesame 77% van kinders kan genees van kanker en nogtans sterf daar ongeveer 700 van hul per jaar in SA. Hettie vra vir vrywilligers om te help met die besoeke aan kanker pasiënte in Heidel-berg. Vrywilligers moet net vir die kanker pasient HOOP gee. Die kanker pasiënt wil net ‘n oor hê om te luister. Die dames het deur die loop van die jaar gebreide poppe gemaak vir kinders wat in die trauma eenheid van die Heidelberg Hospitaal behandel word vir traumatiese gebeure soos verkragting. Die volgende vergadering is op 6 Septemder in die Kairos kerksaal.

Happy Nhlapo a learner at Nigel Primary School came sixth in the Greater Nigel Cross Country Championships held at Mophonana Park in Duduza. He was chosen for the Greater Nigel team to take part in the D6 Cross Country championships at Hoërskool Die Anker, Brakpan.
The Nigel Primary senior speech choir attained an A+ and a trophy for their excellent performance at the Springs Eisteddfod. The results for the school were outstanding at the Eisteddfod and all the learners who participated are to be congratulated.
Gymnastics Ngwanya Hlatswayo of Nigel Primary School won three medals and six ribbons for his excellent performances at the Provincial Club Gymnastic competition held at the Tshwane School of Gymnastics over three weekends.

Sport Nigel spog met krieketspan vir dogters Hoërskool John Vorster spog met die enigste hoërskool krieketspan vir dogters in Nigel,Heidelberg en Balfour. Hulle het hul eerste twee wedstryde van die seisoen gewen, maar Woensdag in Nigel met ses paaltjies teen Hoërskool Brandwag van Benoni in ‘n 20-20 kragmeting vasgeval. John Vorster het eerste gekolf en 138 opgestapel. Met nog twee boulbeurte oor, het Brandwag die telling op 139 verbygesteek.
John Vorster se veldwerk het hulle in die steek gelaat en nog baie werk sal op die terrein gedoen moet word. Kaptein Ansie van Staden van John Vorster sê die dogters het van 2008 af gepleit om krieket as ‘n sport by die skool ingestel te kry. In 2010 het hulle ‘n afrigter gekry en van vanjaar af is Paul Jansen van Vuuren aan die stuur van sake. Ansie is ‘n naatbouler wat in haar eerste twee wedstryde dié seisoen, vyf paaltjies platgetrek het.
