Vermoorde suster, broer verdink Waarom ‘n jeugdige van Heidelberg wat na bewering by sy suster se dood betrokke was, uit ‘n plek van veilige aanhouding na sy skool in Heidelberg teruggeplaas is, is een van die onbeantwoorde vrae in die saak waarby ‘n minderjarige seun glo betrokke is. Teenstrydige verslae van twee pataloë kan dalk moontlik daarmee te doen hê. Die seun is glo ‘n draadspringer wat nie tot die terrein van die skool beperk kan word nie. Hy besoek glo gereeld die dorp en vertel aan mense dat sy pa in Duitsland is en dat hy geld

Rekord verneem dat die suster aan die begin van die jaar dood is. ‘n Patologiese ondersoek onmiddellik daarna het verklaar dat sy aan hartversaking gesterf het, maar nadat die seun by sy skool in Heidelberg vertel het, dat hy sy suster vermoor het, het die staat ‘n hofbevel bekom en die lyk in die teenwoordigheid van pataloë laat opgrawe. ‘n Onafhanklike patoloog het daarna ‘n lykskouing gedoen en glo bevind dat die dogter verwurg, gesodomiseer en verkrag was. ‘n Bejaarde vrou van Heidelberg is in die nag van 14 September deur ‘n gemaskerde blanke man met ‘n balaklawa oor sy gesig in hegtenis geneem. Hy het haar na bewering pers geskop, in die gesig geslaan en haar arm gebreek, maar inligting dui daarop dat sy dalk ook die beserings in die polisieselle kon opgedoen het. Sy was ten tye van haar aanranding onder die invloed van drank en het ‘n klag van aanranding ingedien. Rose Mary Anne Ducan wat op ‘n perseel in Strydomstraat 39 bly waar die ou fliek vroeër was, leef in haglike omstandighede en bied ook blyplek aan uitgeworpenes in die samelewing in haar
standpunt bly staan dat die dogter aan hartversaking gesterf het. Ná die patologiese verslag van verwurging, verkragting en sodomie, is die seun voor die wintervakansie van die skool verwyder en na ‘n plek van veiligebewaring oorgeplaas. Hy het egter na die skoolvakansie weer by die skool aangekom en geen verduideliking kan glo gevind word oor waarom hy teruggeplaas is nie. Rekord verneem dat van die polisie wat eerste op die toneel was, van die merke aan haar nek gesien en daarvan melding gemaak het. Die skoolseun dreig nou glo om ook teen ander mense by die skool op te tree. Daar

I have nothing... From the desk of Rev Ray Goddess I guess the first thing we need to do is to define “nothing”. All too often we hear stories of people having nothing but in fact what they mean is that they have no luxuries. In 2005 while in Uitenhague I had the privilege to visit folk in PE Algoa with Elize (my wife). These folk are so open to situations and it is interesting to see that when they say they have nothing – they mean it. When you open their cupboards there is nothing – not even a lonely tin at the back of the cupboard. Yet even in this desperate situation when they receive a food parcel they call their neighbour (who also has nothing) and share the food parcel with them. Then both have a little. When we say that we have nothing we must realize that our “nothing” may be a lot for someone else. An old loaf of bread or a half a packet of mielie meal may be seen to be nothing but is in fact still something. The problem that I see today is that people only want “the good stuff” and I feel that this is so wrong. If you have nothing and are offered food – no matter what the food is you should take it and be grateful. I remember one situation where we went to deliver a food parcel to a family “who had nothing” and when we took the parcel to them they complained because there was no fresh produce! While we try to help I feel those who are being helped also need to accept the help with an open heart and gratitude. At the same time I believe that those in need should make an effort to help where they can. It is interesting that we often find that when we ask someone to help in the garden (maybe even just watering the veggies) they refuse and would rather walk away without a food parcel. I feel that the “nothing” they have must be a lot more than the true
Rev Goddess, Heidelberg Methodist Church definition of “nothing”. We have found an interesting phenomenon developing at Indawo Yosizo. On the days that we give out food parcels the older folk make the effort to come and collect their parcels but the younger folk want the food parcel delivered to their house. I feel that this comes from the fact that we as a people are getting used to getting everything we demand – and often without putting the effort into working. I do not know how many times we find work for people and they mess it up because they are not committed or dedicated to doing the work properly. In my mind the bottom line is that we need to teach our children that they cannot get all that they want and that which they get comes with a price of respect and hard work. For those who are older and come begging for something to eat should maybe be en-couraged to get some work so that they can make an honest living. I know that work is scarce – but if you have no employment please know that you still have work – your work starts at 08h00 and ends at 17h00 – looking for work, going from place to place asking if there are any vacancies. We will always be here to help those who need help but we will also encourage those who are able to help themselves.

It is illegal to put up posters for advertising purposes without obtaining a coloured sticker issued by the municipality. Individuals, companies and organisations need to submit an application to the Customer Care Centre in the area where they want to put up posters. A minimum of R160 is payable for 20 posters for companies and the public. The charge for organisations and schools is R50. People who put up posters illegally will be fined.

Hundreds of trees planted To mark Arbor Month (September), this month, the Ekurhuleni Metro planted 280 fruit trees and 193 ornamental trees in Duduza plus a further 300 trees along streets. Some of the trees were given to households and others to schools. The donation of the trees also marked the anniversary of the tornado which destroyed houses and left many homeless.

Illegal dumping The Democratic Alliance in Ekurhuleni has condemned the practice of illegal dumping which has become prevalent in Nigel. Following a report recently in the Rekord, DA Clr Wally Labuschagne visited the area behind the John Vorster Stadium, which has become an illegal dumping site, to assess the situation. Labuschagne met with residents of the suburb and Home Owners Association to discuss possible solutions to the illegal dumping that has been plaguing the area. “I find the practice of illegal dumping irresponsible, “he said. “It shows a total disregard for the health of other residents and the environment.” Labuschagne said in Nigel there was an effective solid waste removal department that was run in a highly professional manner. There is also a modern landfill site within reach of the entire community. “Should it be necessary to dump building rubble and other excess waste not normally removed with the weekly pick-ups, it is the responsibility of residents to dump the excess refuse at the landfill site”, he said. “It is disturbing that some individuals, in the dead of night, dump refuse in suburbs far away from their town. Labuschagne has warned residents that there are environment watchdogs who would report illegal dumping to the authorities. There are several steps to be taken in eradicating illegal dumping in Nigel. Firstly, Labuschagne will approach the Metro and request that the areas be cleaned up. The next step is to restrict access to illegal dumping sites by erecting a concrete palisade fence. This process may take some time to complete and Labuschagne implores residents to report illegal dumping when they see it. He said he would approach Metro officials with a map of the areas that need to be fenced off and a motivation from residents in the affected areas. These will be handed over to Council for approval.

Potjiekos, prizes and even pirates! The annual potjiekos competition at the Angelo Mall was bigger and better than ever. This was the fourth competition and the support was tremendous, with business and indivuals all competing enthusiastically. The winner was team Karan Beef with a price of R10 000, second was Turbofix with R5 000 and third came Warembo Lodge, winning R2 500. But the judges must have had a difficult task as all competitors put in a great effort.
Many turned up in fancy dress and one of the highlights was the group of “pirates” who had a tent with “wanted” posters pinned up for each one – with rewards offered! Live entertainment was played throughout and each potjie site was carefully planned and attracted a lot of visitors. The best thing was, people did not have to wait until their potjies were finished, as they came fully prepared with braais and there was plenty of boerwors.

Wally Labuschagne, visited the construction site. “The blockage was caused by a tree trunk and the only way too fix the problem was to break the pipe, remove the tree and lay a new sewerage pipe. This was nothing less than environmental disaster as the sewerage was flowing into the Blesbokspruit and thus into the Vaal”. He urge residents to alert him when the Metro does not respond to their complaints.

Several houses in Caledon Street have had to live with unbearable conditions, due to the sewers on their properties overflowing. In one of the properties, the sewer overflowed to such an extent that the filthy water and even pieces of toilet paper swept through the carport and outside room over the garden and into the swimming pool area. Resident, JJ Gray said the situation has been the same for months and the municipality has been contacted five times, but one response was that there was “no money to mend the broken pipe”. The water resulted in Gray’s car having to be parked near the gate as well as a motor bike, where the wheels were covered in the filth from the sewer. This resulted in the car wheels being stolen and also the motor bike. The sewerage penetrated the swimming pool pump, which had to be replaced at a cost of R2 800. “When it rains the situation is out of control,” said Gray. “The smell is terrible and we just can’t take this any longer.” Next door neighbour Linda Supra’s garden has been overflowing for weeks. There is a section of wall, which protects the sewerage from flowing into the garden but the smell is awful. At the end of Caledon Street the road at the side of the veld is covered with wet toilet paper. There are large patches of water and the sewerage is flowing down in to the Blesbokspruit.

Vreugde en smart vir ds. Schroeder
Die tweeling poseer vir die kamera. Van links is Annelize Schroeder, moeder met hul dogtertjie Nicole, Steven Ross-Jones, haar skoonvader, Ds. Jan Schroeder, haar pa wat die kinders gedoop het, Joy Ross-Jones, haar skoonmoeder en haar man en trotse pa, Brad met klein Christian.
Ds. Jan Schroeder, afgetrede leraar en nou ‘n boer in die distrik Heidelberg, het die afgelope twee weke beide smart en vreugde in die diepste mate ervaar toe hy eers sy dogter se tweeling op 16 September gedoop en twee dae later sy vrou Rita se begrafnis bygewoon het. Me. Schroeder (77) is op Woensdag 12 September oorlede waar sy in Adventhaven Tuiste vir Bejaardes versorg was. Die doopplegtigheid van hul dogter Annelize Schroeder en haar man Brad Ross-Jones se tweeling, Nicole en boetie Christian, was reeds gereël toe sy afgesterf het. Annelize het haar nooiensvan met die aangaan van die huwelik behou. Ds. Schroeder was ‘n predikant van die Hervormde Kerk in o.m. Nigel. Hy en Rita het sedert sy aftrede op hul plaas by Boschhoek buite Heidelberg gewoon waar hy o.a. ‘n melkboerdery bedryf. Me. Schroeder het ‘n paar maande gelede ‘n terugslag beleef toe sy vermoedelik ‘n beroerte gehad en geval het. Met die afsterwe van hul moeder wou die kinders die doopplegtigheid kanselleer, maar ds. Schroeder het besluit om daarmee voort te gaan omdat sy vrou dit so sou wou he. Hy het sy tweeling kleinkinders, ‘n seuntjie en ‘n dogtertjie in die kapelletjie by Hoffeldts Restaurant gedoop. Wyle me. Schroeder se begrafnis het Dinsdag 18 September uit die Hervormde Kerk Heidelberg plaasgevind. Die egpaar het twee dogters en ‘n seun gehad.

Highway Ministry honours men in uniform Lesedi’s uniformed officials were honoured in a unique ceremony that was organised by Highway Ministry of Jan de Bruin in Heidelberg on 5 September. Wreaths in remembrance of fallen comrades were laid by different uniformed personnel branches while church representatives committed the officials in prayer to the protection of the Lord. Programme Director, past. Simon Makhale, said: “You are never sure if you will return home, but remember, God will never forsake you. You can leave this hall in the knowledge that this town respects you.” Present were members of the police, municipal traffic control, the fire brigade, ambulances and Correctional Services. References to ladies in uniform included: ”You are so appreciated and powerful.” In a remarkable example of forgiveness, past. Jeremiah Mbata described how his son was shot and killed by a soldier in one of the uprisings years ago. Hatred boiled in the hearts of him and his family. It was a miserable time and he considered going to Lusaka to become a member of Umkatha We Sizwe. A friend comforted him by saying that no man owns another man’s life. After a month of prayer the message came to him:”You must forgive that man.” He called his wife Fontana and they decided to follow the route of forgiveness and forgave the man in prayer. “A weight fell off my shoulders and we were completely healed. “ He never met the soldier. “Peace is expensive. The price is not paid by the offender but by the victim. It is not easy but God increase love in you.” Executive mayor of Lesedi, cllr. Lerato Maloka said “the role that churches play in healing the community, is really appreciated.”Brig. Anton de Bruyn, Cluster Commander of the Police, said with reference to the actions of Highway Ministry:”This is the way that will change our country.”

Terug na die natuur vir Vida op Lentedag Die wonder om op ‘n plaas naby aan die natuur te leef, het die lewe van Vida Demney en haar gesin van Heidelberg in vrede en harmonie omgekeer en omstandighede geskep wat sy vir niks sal verruil nie. Haar hunkering na die plaaslewe kom uit herinnerings aan haar verlede, het sy aan die lede van Heidelberg Vroue Landbou Unie (VLU) vertel. Vida was op 6 September gasspreker by die maandelikse byeenkoms waar die vroue in die gees van Lente, hooftooisels uit die kombuis saamgestel het. Die vorige nag het ‘n haelstorm die bome feitlik van bloeisels gestroop, maar voorsitter Nelda de Wet het gelukkig die vorige dag ‘n takkie of wat gepluk vir Lentedag. Vida het bekendheid as ballerina verwerf. Vanjaar het sy en haar gesin ‘n stuk of 600 uie plantjies op hul eie plasie geplant. Ons moet dinge bewaar wat vir ons waarde het,” het sy gesê. “Ek het daarna gesmag om tyd met my kinders deur te bring en kosbare herinneringe aan hulle te gee. The wedding expo hosted by D’Vine Garden Café Nigel, attracted more than 350 people over two days. The visitors were certainly not disappointed. Everything required for a successful wedding was on display, including wedding dresses, accessories, cakes and jewellery. Exhibitors were on hand to give expert advice, including photography on the big day, make-up for the bride and maids of honour etc., flowers and so much more, all under one roof! There were even displays of suits for the groom. The DJ provided some entertainment while visitors were enjoying the exhibits. This year’s event also included a travel agent, who was able to give advice on honeymoon destinations. This was an event to remember, with mothers accompanying daughters, maids of honour and also more than a few future bridegrooms.

Na ‘n ondersoek het hy aan Rekord gesê die publiek moet kennis neem dat Impi onder dieselfde naam en op dieselfde plek sal voortgaan om sy besigheid te bedryf. Dit volg nadat Kotzee op 31 Augustus tot die hof toegetree het om ‘n likwidasie aansoek teen Impi te keer. Die likwidasie aansoek is met koste van die hand gewys. Rekord verneem dat die voormalige mede-eienaar, reeds beplan het om ‘n feitlik soortgelyke naam vir ‘n nuwe besigheid te gebruik. Kotzee sê mense moet kennis neem dat geen ander besigheid waarby die naam Impi ingesluit is, tot die slotbedryf in Heidelberg mag toetree nie.

In die Springs Kunswedstryd het Julian in Gedramatiseerde Poësie en Afrikaanse voordrag, A++ behaal. Caitlin se prestasies was: Gedramatiseerde Poësie, A++, Afrikaanse Voordrag, Trofee-wenner en in Monoloog, ook Trofeewenner. In die Suikerbosrand Eisteddfod het Julian vir Engelse voordrag ‘n A++ en in Afrikaanse voordrag ‘n A+ verwerf. Caitlin het in Afrikaanse voordrag, Engelse voordrag, Gedramatiseerde Poësie en haar Monoloog , A++ verwerf. In die Kemptonpark Kunswedstryd was Julian die wenner in die afdelings vir formele modelwerk en in die afdeling vir ontspanningsdrag. Hy het ook in gesproke modellering as wenner uitgestap. Caitlin het nes haar broer in die eerste twee afdelings gewen en vir gesproke modellering ‘n A verwerf.

Walking for a good cause People of all ages took part in the annual 5km walk, organised by the Dunnottar Community Policing Forum on Thursday night last week. More than 300 took part in the walk. The 5km
route was fully marshaled by patrollers and there were plenty of food available. Everyone who completed the walk received a medal. New friends were made and people said the event was a big success. The funds raised from the walk will go to the Community Policing Forum. Waiting at the start of the walk: Gabriel Jonker, Gary Jonker, Tasheiba Jonker and Cassidy Gould. Search This is the man police are searching for. He wears jewellery, headgear, is light in complexion, tall and slender and has a slight beard. He is between 25-30 years of age. A man who gave a lift to two people ended up being hijacked in Duduza. The two hijacked the driver at gunpoint. They then went away with his car and cash. Knap resultate vir JKA Krieketster Nigel se JKA Karateklub van Sensei Bernard Raubenheimer wat tans in die Italiaanse Klub oefen, het in die vier jaar van sy bestaan knap resultate gelewer en hy en sy twee Sampais (top swart gordels) het met hul ledetal van dertig reeds vier swart gordels opgelewer. Brendon Marais het by die laaste SA Kampioenskappe ‘n goue en silwer medalje verower terwyl sy broer Ernest ‘n silwer medalje verwerf het. Raubenheimer se span het met die laaste area kampioenskappe in Heidelberg, dertien medaljes verower. Klubs van Heidelberg, Nigel, Alberton, Balfour en Meyerton het deelgeneem. Die span het verlede Donderdag hul jaarlikse gradering gehou met die oog op die verowering van hoër status. Twee van die deelnemers het voorberei vir swart gordel gradering. Cold and miserable weather couldn’t dampen the spirit of cyclists at the Life Ministry Christian School (LMCS) Mountain Bike Relay Race on Saturday 15 September 2012. Altogether 307 enthusiastic riders braved the wet weather, and a demanding 7 km track with a number of serious challenges to participate in the main Relay Race- the fifth one Life ministries Christian School has hosted. The youngest rider in the event was 7 years old, and he completed two laps, while LMCS’ own veteran, 73 year old Mrs Lenè Louwrens completed her lap in 1 hour and 14 minutes. The kiddies race on their own track entertained the younger riders from 3 years old, while 4 junior teams also showed their metal in the main event with “Radzo Racers” as the winners in this group. Solo Winner, Berthus Anderson completed 15 laps with an average time of 18,21 minutes per lap. “Civil Consult Racing” the male team winner, and “Ghost Riders”, the female team winner, kicked dust in their competitors eyes. Notwithstanding sore muscles and a few minor and not so minor aches and pains this event has proved itself as a great day for the whole family.

Boksgenot vir fynproewer Rocky Jacobs, een van Nigel se skerpste boksers met blits en donder in sy vuiste, sal Saterdagaand in een van 16 opwindende gevegte by die Angelo Mall in aksie wees wanneer Anton Nel en Michael Stoltz hul tweede Rolling Thunder Events in Nigel aanbied.
Nel en Stoltz se eerste twee toernooie vanjaar, eers in die Italiaanse Klub in Nigel en daarna by die Leërgimnasium in Heidelberg, het getoon dat vuurwerke die wagwoord is en dat toeskouers hulle Saterdagaand kan klaarmaak vir leer wat klap en boksers wat val. Wat Rolling Thunder Boxing Events se toernooie so gewild maak, is dat al die manne sonder die onderhempie baklei. Dit is iets so tussen amateur- en professionele boks. Interessant is ook dat Nel-hulle plek gemaak het vir manne wat mekaar weens een of ander geskil wil uitdaag. Maar dis nie sommer net vir baklei nie, eers word die manne gebrei en gelooi in die Nel tradisie van fiksheid wat geen ruimte vir luiheid laat nie. ‘n Terugslag het Christoffel Pretorius, bekroonde en belowende bokser van Hoërskool John Vorster op 11 September getref terwyl hy voorberei het vir nog ‘n oorwinning Saterdagaand. Hy het sy vuis gebreek en sal ‘n paar maande buite aksie wees. Nel voorspel ‘n briljante professionele loopbaan vir die jong man.
